How we response project criteria and client brief?
It is a unique and creative concept for Northshore, that will well connect the people with their land. Also, Flash and Water is a chance and provide job opportunities for the national and native artists, musicians, design companies and, IT companies to cooperate and forge a landmark, milestone and epic tales for Brisbane. Meanwhile, it is a new attempt for the local media companies and citizens to create and appreciate the city in another perspective. Because of limited budget, the big equipment like projectors, fountains, and sound equipment will ship from China, and assemble in Brisbane. All equipment can arrive in Northshore around 3 months. At the same time, we promote in local news paper or social medias, and encourage contributors to submit their pieces of writing and music, and it will continue around a year and half. After that, we can collect the most beautiful pieces and send to the media company and make the physical works.

What kind of people are we targeting?
We are more targeting the destination visitors and some tenants and occupants. The Flash and Water can be seen as a new landmark. Thus, tourists and visitors can see the exact cultural things related to Brisbane and its currents by water screen movies with music. When the festival comes, some promotional videos can project to the water screen, which will attract natives and tourists to go to Northshore and become an internet-famous site. Also, it can be seen as a substantial visible advertisement, and it possibly attracts people's attention when they are looking at the fountain. Thus, some advertisers are willing to pay for it.

How it looks like?
The riverside plastic runway can be put parallel, attracting people who love running, especially community citizens. Meanwhile, the LED landscape belt and laser lamps can install on the dam. When people take the night cruises, they can see the technical light show. In the middle of the river, can have a large fountain. In the daytime, visitors can see the design of the controlling system of the music fountain; and in the evening, the fountain can be a water movie screen. Also, there is two ways to access. To be more specific, visitors can choose to take a cruise to watch the movie or landscape belt or talk a walk on pathway to see the movies. Also, the institution can invite local playwright painters and musicians to compose a unique cultural story, painting, and music that represents Brisbane so that the IT company can help create and mix as a complete 3D movie or documentaries that can blow up the movie on the screen fountain.

How we do better?
In comparison with the existing two projects (CNE and WCDR), what we improve is the Flash and Water concept combines the activities because of the similar culture with Canada to some extent. So, we take the successful events as they did. Also, we need to combine with Brisbane culture and costumes, so we follow the WCDR to make some specific areas for history arts. As for the innovation part and the worthiest things are about the LED water landscape belt and the water movie screen fountain.

How we connect them?
As these two sample projects, their target are similar to the Northshore brief, so we can transfer some feasible activities and trade modes to Northshore redesign and clear the function of each area.

Topographic map
The blue part, is our target design water part. The pink area is called the container stage, and it can organize the music festival and movie festival. The central square can be a feasible and available place, which can be rent to increase the Northshore economy, for example, renting for trade fair. The left top of the purple area, will be an art park, and will build some shared office and art studios, which can be rented. The red area is a green space and has a big lawn in the center, the grey area will be a high-end seascape B&B or hotel, which can direct the cruise wharf, and the yacht can be parked there, attracting the rich.

Existing Project 2
Another one is called Wenzhou Ou River Cultural District Recreation. They totally separated the function of each block but connected these three blocks (Wuma Cultural block, Mochi Cultural block, and Jiangxin island Cultural block) by the walkways, which start with the city center, through the CBD, and finally go to the Ou River walkway to take the cruise.

CNE includes foods, entertainment parks, handcrafts, instagrammable shooting venues, farm exhibitions, shopping, markets, warehouse outlets, games, live bands, casinos, aviation show firework shows, lantern parades, etc. This carnival is usually organized every summer in downtown Toronto which is very close to Ontario Lake. However, CNE didn’t connect any event or activity with water because of the weather and temperature.

Northshore Context Analysis
According to the client brief, I also researched many existing projects with waterfront and some exciting events. After that, there were two representative concepts that I want to share and put into Northshore Flash and Water concept. The excellent weather and excellent location will bring much potential to the Northshore area. As the expectation, the idea will be called Flash and Water. Not only will people be related to nature, technology, history and lifestyle, but they also will network between interpersonal relationships.
