during your childhood, you were known to be the girl who always sat in the back of the class. your pencil always graced a sheet of paper, whether it be the pages from your sketchbook or the napkin from lunch. you loved to design clothes, and you felt as if it was your alter ego that showed itself in those designs. bold lines, striking colors, bright details—these were the characteristics of your work and you brought them everywhere. even if that meant in front of one of korea’s most famous rappers, sik-k. your designs had garnered quite a bit of attention, but this was new for you.

minsik didn’t know what it was, but something about your designs and sample photos that he saw on your instagram page struck something in him—curiosity. he messaged you privately and asked if you could design a piece for him. he thought that your designs were something that were priceless. and maybe that you were adorable. you replied back, shocked that he gave you this type of attention. to be honest, you didn’t think you were widespread enough to deserve it. fast forward two weeks later and there you were, in your studio and standing in front of minsik with your tailor’s tape. you were preparing to design your first piece for him.

“wow he’s really tall.”, you thought. maybe this was just the fact that you weren't close to being at least 165 centimeters, but the way minsik towered over you made a million thoughts run through your brain.

“Um I think we can get started now.” you said as your hands trembled.

“hey! loosen up a bit! i want you to be comfortable around me. i’m going to be asking for most of my clothing to come from you so i want us to be as close as possible.”, he said with an almost goofy smile. it instantly released the tension in your shoulders. “o-okay!", you said quietly and maybe a little too quickly. you dropped your head and shook it disappointedly—you felt dumb for the way you responded to him. you tried to shake away your thoughts and get back to measuring.

“could you come a little closer?", you said while turning away to jot down a measurement.

"like this?"

he came face to face with you as you turned back around, and you froze as heat automatically rushed to your cheeks. your heart raced as you struggled to form an answer.

is that what he meant by as close as possible??

he thought it was adorable how your eyes got wide and your eyebrows shot up at such a small occurrence. you were silent when minsik laughed once again, the hearty sound now filling the room.

“or maybe you can go on a date with me instead?”, he questioned with a sly grin.

was it even possible to be this frozen? your mind was telling you to say yes but your mouth refused to listen.

finally, you nodded your head.

“great!”, he exclaimed, and his face automatically lit up.

just seeing his smile made all your nervousness melt away. you continued to measure and stood on your tippy toes to reach his neck. you lost your balance and landed into his arms, and your bodies now pressed upon each other. now you wondered if you were the one that wanted to be as close as possible.

The heavy bass that thumped through your headphones matched your footsteps through the streets of Seoul. It was summer, and you enjoyed the sunshine and warmth that came with it. You were on your way to your favorite coffee shop with your tote bag slung across your chest. Occasionally, you skipped a bit to the beat and stares followed. But you didn't care. It felt like the day had a path full of fortune for you.

As a producer making your way into the Korean Hip-Hop scene, you were always listening to the sounds around you and sometimes songs would be your inspiration. Today happened to be one of those days.

You pushed open the door of your favorite cafe and waved to the cashier. You were a regular because the atmosphere added to the creative juices that flowed whenever you were making a beat. It was small, cozy, and rarely busy---the best background for beatmaking. You ordered your usual, an iced latte, and took your favorite seat next to the large window that oversaw the bustling street. Eager to get started on your work, you opened your laptop and hit shuffle on your phone. Your playlist had almost all of your favorite beats, and you could safely say that they were mostly Changmo songs. You had to admit it. His style was attractive, and it was one of the reasons that you became a producer.

While you were in your tiny bubble and your eyes were glued to the screen of your laptop, someone else’s eyes locked onto you. Changmo's. Changmo? In a small cafe? It didn’t make sense but there he was, sitting two chairs away from you, mesmerized by you and unbeknownst to you. He watched intently as you tapped your foot along to the thump in your headphones and slightly furrowed your eyebrows when you felt like a beat was in the wrong place. He decided that this would be it. He stood straight up and started walking towards you as your back was facing him. What he didn’t notice was that you were packing up your stuff and getting ready to leave.

You stood up and turned sharply in the direction behind you, only to run into something hard. Your headphones fell off your ears and your tote bag fell to the floor; it’s contents emptied all over the ground. "I'm so sorry!", you exclaimed. You immediately dropped down to pick everything up and encountered another set of hands in the process. Looking up at the person, you froze. It was...Changmo?? Of all people?? You were honestly a bit starstruck. He picked up your headphones and handed them to you, but then he froze. He could hear faint bursts of what sounded like his voice, and that was when you realized that your headphones had disconnected from your phone. You quickly scooped up your things and stood up. He followed and you lifted your head to meet his eyes.

"Oh it's my song Maestro!", he exclaimed as his eyes lit up. He flashed the cheesiest smile that made your stomach flip.

You forgot that you were listening to your Changmo playlist. You laughed nervously as you took the headphones, and you fiddled to find your phone to pause the music while saying an inaudible "thank you".

“No problem.”, he assured while stuffing his hands in his pockets.

“Honestly, I approached you because I thought you were really pretty.”, he confessed, while you were fidgeting to put your belongings in your bag.

You felt heat rush to your cheeks and your lips upturned into a small smile.

“Um, would you like to meet up for coffee tomorrow? That is if you are free. Sorry I didn't make sure of that fir- the point is, would you like to?"

His nervous blabber was quite adorable to you, since he always seemed like the confident type. It inclined you to say yes to him more than ever.

“So like a date?", you questioned.

“Oh um ye-no- kind of? We could make beats together! It's because I saw you making some earlier so I thought we cou-”, he rambled.

“I would love to!” you said as your smile grew larger by the second.

He returned your smile with one that couldn't possibly be bigger.

"Can I have your number?"

You punched in your digits and gave him back his phone, your hands slightly brushing each other.

Heat rushed to your cheeks once again.

“I've gotta go but I'll see you tomorrow around the same time?”, you said while walking towards the door.

“Alright! I'll text you when I get here.", he said.

You waved as you walked out of the cafe and you put your headphones back on. You smiled to yourself and skipped a few times to the beat again.

"Today really IS a good day!" , you thought to yourself as you walked home with a cheeky grin on your face.
