Research Summary and Images
As a cornerstone of our very existence, food has always played a significant part in our social and cultural lifestyles. Burnt candles, human skulls, dying flowers, fruits and vegetables, broken chalices, jewelry, crowns, watches, mirrors, bottles, glasses, vases… Today, we can see them in the works of still life photographers, but more notably, these were the typical, prominent feature of the paintings created by the Dutch and Flemish Old Masters of the 17th century. The Golden Age of the Dutch and Flemish culture offered, and continues to offer, a bounty of Vanitas still-life as one of the earliest examples of the genre in European painting, providing inexhaustible inspiration for contemporary art practices and still life artists of all genres.

Week 12 Objective Updated
By learning Irving Penn's still life, I feel I really enjoy the experiences that learning someone's photograph works and finding the secret behind them, I am also very happy to create images with secrets so that people would spend time to think about them.  In my senior project, I want to create still life especially food that related to human body and sexuality. Since the food may not always be similarities between the food and human body, I would like to redefine food from deferent angle, use different lighting technologies and other photography skills.
In case to explores the varying relationships of sexual hint between different food and human sex activities, I would develop my project by using American, Chinese, Japanese and Korean food and mainly using sea food, raw meats, fruits and vegetable. By present my works, my ideas is to have the digital prints and present it in a dark room with spot lights on the prints.

Week 11  Artist Statement Updated
p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; text-align: justify; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'}
My photo takes an objective view of human sex activities. Often referencing human body and sexuality, my work explores the varying relationships of sexual hint between different food and human sex activities. Having engaged different food as diverse as the Chinese, Korean, Japanese and American. My work reproduces familiar visual images of sexuality by mainly using seafood, raw meat, vegetable and fruits, arranging them into new conceptually setup. While I use a variety of food and processes in each photo my methodology is not consistent. Although there may not always be similarities between the food and human body, they are linked by redefine food from different angle. The subject matter of each photo determines the quantity of food and the forms of the work. Each photo often has specific themes and meanings of sexuality.

This is Jillian’s image. First of it is a part of a boiled egg on a round light purple (more blue) chair. it is easily to see egg white and egg yellow, which might be  bitten by someone. The main lighting is come from top back of the egg, it can’t tell that if the picture was took in studio or by the window. The lighting is strong, so there are heavy shadow of the egg and chair. the egg is about on the central point of the image and close to the middle of the chair. it si very interesting that the round egg( base on the shape of egg) on the round chair. and the color contract is very strong from yellow to light purple.
