CONFESSION:

I didn’t like the way Leliana was included in DAI. For example, I disliked how Leliana is hardened regardless if she was softened in DAO. She has a crisis of faith in DAI similar to the one in DAO. I was expecting Leliana to at least mention how the Warden helped embrace or dismiss her faith. That was a defining moment of her personality, but it’s disappointingly ignored in DAI altogether. Hardened Leliana in DAO no longer valued faith and retook the bard lifestyle. She could even disregard the defilement of Andraste’s ashes, whereas softened Leliana would attack on sight for that. I could understand hardened Leliana still caring about the Breach, but not the Chantry or faith in the Maker. Then there’s her unexplained survival in DAI if the Warden killed her. DAI already explained the supposed elven gods, so explaining Leliana’s survival seems minor in comparison. Instead it’s only briefly mentioned once in the entire game, followed by a vague ending in Trespasser. The way her inclusion was handled invalidated previous player choices. Consequently, this created inconsistencies and contradictions in her story. It’s hard for me to feel like DAI Leliana is a natural result of her story in DAO because it’s seldom referenced. She says little about her life in DAO and how it affected her afterwards. Those events defined Leliana, but were treated with little relevancy in DAI. Companions like Leliana have too many variables in their decisions, and how their personalities develop. They inevitably have confusing inconsistencies and contradictions when included in sequels. I truly like Leliana, but for the aforementioned reasons, I think I would have preferred a new character as DAI’s spymaster.

Since I have no energy to actually paint anything, I tried doing some simple styled busts of the companions + advisors! And of course I had to include some of my favourite minor characters as well!  (Abelas, Scout Harding, Charter, Ameridan, Svarah Sun-Hair)

So I’m replaying Origins, and when I witnessed this convo my mouth fell out

You just KNOW that when the court tailor consulted with Empress Celene’s ~occult advisor~ to get her into some “proper clothes,” Morrigan just wracked her brain for Leliana’s Orlesian fashion advice from TEN YEARS AGO. (But if you watch her entrance carefully, she’s still wearing the same boots from Origins!)
