My favorite scenes from The Odyssey (books 18 to 21)
Odysseus fighting a random beggar being its own book was not something I expected to enjoy this much when reading The Odyssey, but here we are.

i love the tragedy and the angst of the house of atreus as much as the next person. but i also love to imagine agamemnon and menelaus being ........ kids. stupid kids. like. can you imagine them as teenagers and they see a fresco or some shit of the minotaur and menelaus just goes 'omg agamemnon you have our great-uncle's nose' and agamemnon just fucking bodies him.

Unpopular opinion but
I don't think any of the wives of the crewmates in Epic waited for them. Yes, this includes Ctimene
The whole point of the Odyssey (and Epic along), is to show that both Odysseus and Penelope would go to lenghts to go back to each other. Penelope is literally the example of a "faithful and patient wife". And considering the time they were in, 20 YEARS for them to not remarried would have been seen as wrong (literally why the suitors insulted Penelope with no care even if she was Queen)
Do i think they waited until the Troyan war was over? Yes. After that? Only Penelope.
I don't think Odysseus' sister waited for Eurylochus (she wasn't even on Ithaca to have Penelope's influence) and i think Eury was well aware of that fact and why he was also willing to die in Helios' island (and all the crew who was left at that point).

It's genuinely frustrating when you enjoy the Odyssey and Epic, as while they DO share a lot of similarities, they ARE very different :/ And it's super duper frustrating that people somehow think that Epic Odysseus loves Penelope more than Odyssey Odysseus, like, y'all, where do you think Jay got the inspiration from?

I’m living for The Odyssey discourse on Twitter right now because some people are like, “You’ve never heard of the odyssey” and other people are like, “some people don’t speak English and haven’t read your little American book.”

Culturally connected Indigenous Mexicans every single fucking year: Please do not celebrate Día de Muertos if you are not Mexican. Many Día de Muertos "traditions" only date back to the 20th century and were literally appropriated from our own religious and cultural practices which are still mocked, ridiculed, oppressed, and demonized by white people (including white Mexicans) and Mexican mestizos. White Mexicans and Mexican mestizos can celebrate, but we ask that they please be aware of the privileges they hold over us and the role mestizaje played in the creation of the modern Día de Muertos celebration. As for the rest of you, we ask that you please learn what your own culture or ancestors do/did to honor their dead, especially if you are a gringo (non-Latine white USAmerican)
Annoying white people: Oh so you're saying that only Mexicans can honor their dead? Is that what you're saying? Hmm? So you're gatekeeping who gets to honor their deceased loved ones? Día de Muertos should be for everyone! You should be grateful that it's becoming so popular outside of the Mexican community

Penelope!!!! (If she was in Hades 2)
Tumblr media
The location I would put her in doesn’t exist in the game yet, but I tried to do a bit of a background.
Tumblr media
Personally I would understand if Penelope doesn’t actually show up in Hades 2, there’s so much going on in the game already, buuuut if she was there….
I think there’s a lot of fun metaphor in unraveling the day’s weavings as a form of turning back the clock, hence “Witch of Unwinding”. Penelope isn’t referred to as a witch in any myths that I know of, but for various reasons I think it’s a fun change.

When frankenstein's creature said accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust? And when Judas said why didn't you make me good enough so that you could've loved me? And when wych elm said why did you do this to me? I was your baby. You made me. But then sophokles said, i am the shape you made me, filth teaches filth.
