So here I am after thousands of years of being off tumblr for one reason. KINNPORSCHE. Now if you’re like me and you like to hyper fixate on things, then you know what’s it’s like to spend hours trying the find the best fics to satisfy that boost of serotonin. So here I’ve listed all of my favorite KP fics I’ve read on AO3. Now, I mainly read smut but I do enjoy a little fluff every once in a while so WARNING: I’m gonna list some of the most toe curling, smut filled fics of them all here, some summaries are VERY EXPLICIT. I do read Vegas/Pete and Kim/Chay fics as well but this is primarily dedicated to my two favorite kingpins. Originally this was going to be a complete/incomplete rec list but I then realized it was going to be a monster of a rec page. Anyways ENJOY !

Picture this:

You’re Kinn Theerapanyakul, mafia heir, finally arriving home after an ill-advised and arduous night. You woke up this morning in a strange hotel room. There was a naked bodyguard in bed with you.

You’ve just endured an incredibly awkward car ride with said bodyguard and are about to embark on the ultimate walk of shame wearing a burgundy velvet dinner jacket. Papa’s personal bodyguard (the guy you probably think of as a second dad) is waiting at the front door for you with a summons. You have enough presence of mind to hand off the dinner jacket before being made to sit and engage in one of Papa’s bullshit 4D psychological warfare chess matches.

He asks you how work is going. You know that he knows that you know that he’s waiting for you to admit that work is the farthest thing from your mind ever since fucking the disaster himbo last night made your life capital Complicated.

You’ve lost the tie and cummerbund but you’re still wearing a goddamned tuxedo shirt and no amount of open buttons (3) will change that.

Papa looks you dead in the eye. You say “Work’s fine.”

Acting via Micro-expression - Mile's Kinn

A case study of acting techniques

I think everyone agrees now that Mile and Apo are actors of remarkable talent but I continue to be floored by how well Mile employs micro-expressions to say so much in such little time.

One of my favourite scenes is this one where we can't even see his whole face with the sunglasses but it's his intent is crystal clear. He is not judging Porsche for his shyness but he is also not accomodating it. He is gentle but stubborn, even slightly bemused and infinitely understanding. We are here, we are proud, we are not going to hide - that's what he is telling Porsche and us the viewers solely through the set of his eyebrows and mouth. I won't even go into the details of how important this is in the context of LGBT pride.

Another favourite is this one. Kinn is hurt because Porsche is hurt and he is the reason for that hurt and he knows it but he can't do anything about it. He in guilty but also pitying himself - selfish of him considering the situation but he's human. Mile is not even moving here but you can see the slightest shift in his gaze. Again a masterclass in acting.

This is one of his longer scenes and he's very clearly moving his face but Mile is still able to convey 10 different emotions with very little expression - fear, disbelief, confusion, reluctance, even slight frustration.

Hell Mile is even good with comedy which in my opinion is a very tough acting gig if you don't have a natural inclination for it. He embodies the disgruntled awkwardness of Kinn perfectly here. To add, he is doing the "acting of acting" bit here, meaning Mile is enacting Kinn and Kinn is acting in front of Porsche (his smile) while simultaneously acting in front of his friends that isn't interested in Porsche. this is scene is peak subtle comedy.

Just- look at this. How seamlessly Mile transitions from horny playfulness to.. not sad exactly... a resolved fear is what it feels like to me. as viewers we never lose the beat of Kinn's emotions, not even for a moment. Considering the setting, this is exceedingly domestic and intimate. It's painful to be in so much love, painful to want to protect someone and but not being able to. He is afraid and fond and in love and even a little guilty and you feel that in less that 3 seconds, without words without any big emoting on Mile's part.

Any other actor would do this scene with double the flourish and half the impact. Mile's Kinn is suave and badass but he is not without humour. Mile is able to perfectly balance grace/elegance and comedy here.

Another scene of complex emotions - Kinn is smiling but it's such a sad smile. he knows that things have not been made right with Porsche. Porsche has accepted his apology but not because it was a good apology but because of Porsche's personality. Kinn realises that but also understands that now is not the time to push him. There's sadness, there's also guilt, there's also an immense sense of protectiveness over Porsche. Kinn wants to protect Porsche, ironically from himself - his past self. There's pity and this time not for himself but for Porsche not just because Kinn loves Porsche but because its human to empathize with another's pain.

Don't think I even need to mention this moment. This is the stuff of legends now in the KP fandom so won't elaborate much. His desparation is palpable - almost a physical thing, extremely viscose. Again, most of his face and eyes are hidden, we can only see half his face and one of his eyebrows.

Bonus:

This gif here to emphasize that it's not just micro-expressions that Mile is good at. He is good with the emotive bit of acting as well. You can almost feel the relief of quenching your thirst after a long spell of dehydration.

The fact that I got two asks with you guys just yelling my name first thing and I don't even think it's the same person completely cracked me up. I am thrilled you’re watching and enjoying, anon! 

But a Kinnporsche ask! This is exciting! So let's dive in... (and you know me... it’ll probably get long 😏).

Short answer is yes. I think Kinn fell first and Porsche fell harder. But I should clarify that I don't think Porsche is more in love. I think both Kinn and Porsche are on very equal ground when it comes to how much - and exactly how desperately - they've fallen in love with one another. And I think that's something the show has done a really good job of showing... or I suppose an even more accurate way of putting it is emoting. This is despite the fact that Porsche and Kinn have different (though not entirely dissimilar) ways of expressing that vulnerability. 

I think Kinn went into this entire situation aware of the way he was drawn to Porsche from the very beginning. Like here was this seriously beautiful guy who pops into Kinn’s life by chance, saves his ass, shows alllll the sass in the world, isn’t at all intimidated or cowed by the ring on Kinn’s finger (or, like, that whole kidnapping him thing lmao), and treats Kinn only as a man from the very beginning (a man who was seriously pissing him off 😂). There is no doubt - despite the way he bitched - that Kinn was intrigued and drawn to Porsche despite himself. Kinn is also openly gay and obviously completely confident in his sexuality. And there was an element of attraction from the very beginning that Kinn definitely noticed. Side note: I love in those first few frozen eye connection moments in early eps it’s clear Kinn is caught in the moment and this pull towards Porsche, but Apo kept his expression relatively devoid of obvious reaction in return (a clear choice considering both actors are freaking masters at micro expressions). So Kinn goes about things in a very natural (for lack of a better word) way. He’s drawn to Porsche, attracted to him, gets to know him better, and falls. And it’s a soft fall imo. He’s aware as it’s happening which also explains to me how and why he initiates as much as he does. He’s unsure of how Porsche feels initially, but he’s very aware of how he feels (even as it conflicts with everything he believes his familial duties require and even as he fights that reality). And he falls even more deeply as the episodes and their relationship progresses - to the point we’re at now where he is in deep. And Kinn has been in love before. This is a feeling he recognizes. I think what has thrown his head (and heart) into turmoil is not just the baggage from his ex, but that he recognizes love - and more significantly, recognizes that his love for Porsche is on a level he hasn’t experienced before (something I really hope the show will have him point out). 

As for Porsche... Porsche fell for Kinn like an asteroid hitting the earth (sorry for the dramatic metaphor but… really… it’s appropriate). Like, we’re talking an earth shattering slam of emotion that left him more vulnerable than he’s ever been and completely reeling with feeling he’s never experienced before. The reverberations of that impact are seen in so many ways - in his confusion and repeated need for some sort of verbal acknowledgement of feeling from Kinn, in his anguish when the intensity of feeling is followed by Kinn’s cold aloofness and cruel treatment, in the way he seeks out Kinn again and again, in the way he responds to Kinn’s affection and touch, and on and on. This was not a soft fall. Porsche slammed into love with violence and desperation and a total lack of familiarity. He’s never been in love before... and to fall in love for the first time with this kind of intensity? Yeah... that’s gonna hit hard. Porsche is such a strong character. In every way. Physically he’s a BAMF, but he’s also a self-assured, sassy, cocky, capable shit disturber. So to see exactly how vulnerable he becomes with Kinn has really been something. And so that’s what I mean by agreeing Porsche fell harder.

In the end, I think both Porsche and Kinn need someone who challenges them - an equal partner in their lives and someone who doesn’t hesitate in calling them out on their shit. This isn’t something Porsche has ever had. And while we know little about Kinn’s ex, it seems clear from the unhappy ending, an equal partner was not what he got there. I think this is the first time for both of them that they have someone standing across from them who sees them for the man they are and wants exactly that while offering the same. It’s a pretty special thing and a truly phenomenal dynamic to watch develop.

Eternals Powers/Ikaris Theory

I’ve been thinking alot about how before the film came out it seemed like people were really interested in and excited for Ikersi’s relationship and it was definitely the ship that was pushed and promoted. Me personally I thought they had great chemistry and I was invested in the ship and their love story but I have seen alot of people express disappointment about the pairing and saying that they didn’t connect with their story. I couldn’t help but wonder why that was and of course this is just my speculation on it, but I think it comes down to expectations. I kind of covered this in another post briefly but I think people had very different expectations as to what the relationship was going to be compared to what we saw on screen and that threw them off, even I’ll admit that whilst I enjoyed their love story it was not what I was expecting from the trailers. I also pointed out that it seemed like alot of their scenes set in the present were cut. I think people went into this film expecting to see a romance between Ikersi set in the present as well as the past. I also said that I thought that there was a previous edit of the film that did include a romance in the present because of some comments the actors made. Gemma says that Ikersi have an on again off again relationship. Yet in the film they are together for 5000 years then break up. As they don’t get back together again its clearly not an on/off relationship. Kit said that his character Dane gives Sersi space to figure out what her feelings for Ikaris are and he also says that Ikaris ‘flies out of the sky and shoots lasers from his eyes and steals my girlfriend’. There was also a quote from Richard where he talks about Ikersi always choosing each other. All of this makes it seem like there was suppose to be a storyline of Ikaris and Sersi finding their way back to each other romantically. I really do think there was an whole romantic subplot between them that was cut. 

There are alot of scenes that were in the trailers but then cut from the film and alot of these scenes seemed to be the ones from the present timeline. It’s kind of funny because there is this sequence from the teaser trailer that shows Ikersi embracing across three timelines:

Yet only one of these scenes makes it into the movie, the other two were cut. It also seems like the scenes that look like they are really romantic and passionate from the present day timeline were the ones that were cut. For example this one with the ice cream looks really flirty and playful. 

Another thing I did notice was that some of Ikersi’s scenes feel like they are incomplete like there was obviously more to the conversations that were cut out. One of those scenes is the one at her apartment where Ikaris is putting on his jacket in the kitchen and she is standing in the doorway and he tells her he is sorry he hurt her, I remember thinking that they must have had a whole conversation about him leaving that we missed. I think this image showing them in Sersi’s kitchen was part of that scene. So for funsies here’s how I think this scene could have gone. We learned from Richard that Ikaris has a sweet tooth, I could see this scene starting out really playful with Ikaris having found some ice cream and Sersi teasing him about his sweet tooth. I also think there would have been some humour in this scene in that I think from the way Sersi has her finger on the ice cream tub that she changed it into something else. They then probably would have had a really intense staring scene, as even in this image they have that eye contact locked on each other, where the sexual tension between them is apparent and making it clear that there are still feelings there. But then Sersi will break out of the ‘spell’ and remember how he left her and move away from him to stand in the doorway with her back to him. It’ll be here that she says something about how much he hurt her when he left. This would explain why in that scene in the film Ikaris is still by the cooker but looking at Sersi, and why Sersi is in the doorway with her back to him. It would also give his ‘I’m sorry I hurt you’ comment some more context because it would be a follow on from her telling him that he hurt her. 

Another thing that I thought seemed incomplete is the moment when Sersi gives Ikaris the stone changed to match his eyes. While I don’t think that scene was incomplete I did think that the stone itself was going to have more significance going forward as they focussed on it and it seemed like a significant and important moment for them in their relationship. Someone pointed out that during the montage Ikaris has of their relationship it shows Ikaris giving the stone back to Sersi as a necklace on their wedding day. Well I am pretty sure, like 99% sure that we see her wearing this necklace in the present day timeline. This is a screenshot from Sersi in the past but after she is married to Ikaris, when they are in Tenochtitlan, and you can see she is wearing a necklace which is presumably, logically the necklace with the stone given to her on their wedding day. 

When you compare it to the necklace she wears in present day they really do look like the same necklace, the chain is the same and the stones look to be the same shape and size. Also whilst I thought in some of the shots that the stone in her present day necklace looked black it is actually blue. (Side note the picture above has been brightened to see the necklace better which messed with the colouring of the stone which is why it looks green and not blue).

When I figured this out I wanted to cry because it means that she never took it off, she kept it on even after he left her, even after she moved on with Dane, there was still a part of her heart that couldn’t let him go. I think a part of her still clung to that hope that one day he would come back. 

But there was something else I noticed that makes me think that this stone played a larger part in the romantic plotline but was cut out. Sersi always wears this necklace, she has it on in the scenes in London when she is teaching and at the party with Dane, she has it on when they go and get Kingo and on the plane and when they go to see Thena and Gilgamesh. However when they arrive at Druig’s camp she isn’t wearing the necklace anymore. 

Just before the scene where Kingo has the Peter Pan talk with Sprite there is a shot of Ikaris sitting and playing with something. The shot opens on his hands so whatever it is he is fiddling with is obviously something important, unfortunately the screen in that scene was so dark that I haven’t been able to tell what it is he is holding, so this for the moment is a theory until someone else who has better eye vision can confirm it or until a good enough quality of the film becomes available for streaming where I can brighten the picture. But I am fairly sure that he is holding the necklace. In the scene he looks sad and like he is contemplating things. Right after we see him get up and seek out Sersi where they have the conversation where he tells her he is worried about not being able to protect her from Arishem and where she asks why he left. There is also this pic from a deleted scene showing the eternals in a boat clearly travelling up the amazon river to Druig’s camp so we can assume it is before these scenes I just talked about: 

If you look at Ikersi in the back of the boat you can see that Sersi again is not wearing the necklace. Now to be clear I can’t say for certain that this is them in character as it could be a bts shot but I am assuming it is because of Karun holding the camera up, so playing the part of the cameraman character. So for the sake of the argument lets say this is them in character and not just the actors chilling on a boat. Ikersi’s body language is very interesting because you can see that they are sitting some distance from each other and slightly turned away from each other. Also it looks like Ikaris is deep in thought and again looks sad very similar to how he was in the scene at night in Druig’s camp. My theory is that either on the boat or just before there was a scene where Sersi gives the necklace back to Ikaris and kind of says that she has moved on, kind of like one of those break up scenes that isn’t technically a break up but like its a break up, if you get what I mean. That would explain the melancholy mood of Ikaris during the scenes in the camp. Also I noticed when they were all in that meeting hall type room filling Druig in and Dane calls Sersi as she cancels the call she looks worriedly over to Ikaris and is clearly feeling awkward about it. I think these scenes make sense if you have that angst of her giving the necklace/stone back to Ikaris. It also explains the absence of the necklace that otherwise just weirdly disappeared. 

The next time we see her wearing the necklace is when she goes to find him in the canyon where she first gave him the stone. This is another scene that we know was longer, I think somewhere in this scene he gives her the necklace back because in the scene before it doesn’t look like she is wearing it. The scene starts out showing the back of Ikaris as we come out of his memory of killing Ajak. Then we see Sersi approaching him and in this shot she has on the necklace. She says she thought she would find him there and he replies ‘I’ve thought about this place alot.’ However I don’t think that shot was the original starting shot. I think they have more conversation before this. When Sersi says the line about finding him there its just her voice and the camera is on Ikaris so I think it was just edited that way to make it fit better after the cut scenes. In the Marvel Celebrates The Movies teaser Sersi says the line ‘We’re the ones who have changed everything’ which doesn’t make it into the movie but shows that this scene did have more conversation in it. I’m not really sure what the conversation might have been but I do think that it may have included a conversation about the beginning of their relationship. I think Ikaris says the line about how he has been thinking about that place and that was the catalyst for the conversation about their relationship and Ikaris would have given her the necklace back. That leads to the conversation we see them have about change and the emergence etc before Ikaris confesses that he is in love with her and is grateful for the life they’ve had. Which brings us to this other deleted shot from the teaser trailer:  

 This scene was actually the one that I was most looking forward to seeing in the film and the one that really got me interested in Ikersi so naturally I felt deep levels of disappointment when I realised it had been cut. I think this was clearly a kiss scene, either they are about to kiss or have just kissed. I am assuming it comes after she takes his hand and rests her forehead against the back of his neck, I think it would have paralleled their first kiss where Ikaris would have slowly turned to her and they then would have kissed. I can’t tell how much I am in love with this gif alone, I mean the way their foreheads are pressed together, the way she is playing with his hair and stroking his face and down his neck. The way his lips and jaw tremble and the way they are both trying to get closer still, the expressions on their faces, just why, why did they delete this scene, I don’t think I am ever going to get over it. It just looks so emotional and intense, I mean the man appears to literally be trembling in the arms of the woman he loves. 

Anyway I really do believe that there was a much more developed storyline set in the present between them and that the stone played a much larger role in that storyline and was kind of this symbol of their relationship and love for each other that got passed back and forth between them throughout the film. But the question is why did they cut it out? Well as I said it seems like a lot of the scenes that got cut were set in the present. This is just me speculating and I could be totally wrong but I think maybe they got worried about how the audience would react to them having all these romantic scenes in the present when Ikaris is the one to kill Ajak. I mean the scene in the canyon, if they had kissed, it would have been right after we saw Ajak’s death. There’s no denying it would have made the reveal even more painful for Sersi if she had rekindled things with Ikaris and then discovered the truth. It’s possible that the people behind the scenes were concerned that would put people off the romance between Ikersi and that they would get backlash for having their female protagonist kissing and having romantic scenes with the surprise ‘villain’. So they keep in enough to show how Ikaris’ love for Sersi saves the day and stops him from stopping the emergence because that is a major plot point they couldn’t really erase and they keep in their past relationship because that’s ok the past Ikaris hadn’t killed Ajak yet. I do wonder, if I am right, whether them keeping those cut scenes would have made Ikersi more popular and more people connect with them or whether people would have objected to the protagonist having been with the villain? 

Well just to finish off I figured I would talk about the last Ikersi deleted scene we know about, because why not, which I talked about in my other recent Ikersi post:

 This is the one where I saw people talking about how Ikaris was acting intimidating and I pointed out that we don’t know what the context of the scene was but it was obvious that they were both very horny and not being intimidating/ nervous to each other. So what was the context of this scene? Well taking a guess I think this is right before they first go to the canyon and confess their feelings. In the film before the canyon scene we see them walking amongst and interacting with the settlers and as you can see in the background of the gif there are settlers. I think this was going to be a superman/ lois lane type moment where he was pulling her close to take her flying, most likely to the canyon. There is another image of this scene where Sersi has her hand on his chest so I think she would have wrapped her arm around his neck to hold on to him or held on to his shoulder.

Look I could be totally wrong about all of this but to me it would fill in some of the gaps that I will admit to noticing from the very first viewing. I still love what they have done with the pairing. I said in my review in some ways I liked that they didn’t have Sersi leave Dane and go straight back to Ikaris as it was a different route to take from most the ex shows back up plotlines. That being  said I absolutely adore Ikersi so I am eager for any and all content I can get for them, and I know I’ve repeated this a few times now but I really hope they release the deleted scenes or a director’s cut with them included. The ones I am really desperate to see, like I am dying to see them and they have to give them to me are the ice cream scene and the canyon scene where they have their heads pressed together. Anyway I’ve gone on long enough so yup that’s my theory and I am sticking to it until I am proven wrong.

Things I Loved About Eternals

*SPOILER WARNING*

wow that was an amazing movie and it fucked me up I have so many emotions

let’s go down the list of Immortal Family Angst

1. The Immortal Family Angst: First off, the 7000-year-old gods were gorgeous and powerful and petty and human, which is everything I could’ve asked for in a Mythological Deities movie. They’ve definitely got that Greek Mythology Olympians vibe with their differing fields of expertise (what they were made for + what they came to embody over the centuries), but I guess what makes them more or less fucked up than Greek gods is their unquestionable love for each other. Isn’t that such a curse and a blessing? 

2. The physical disability representation from Makkari: When she spoke, everyone automatically fell silent, and not once in the film was her disability a hindrance to her. Why? Because her 7000-year-old family members accommodated her needs, which isn’t that impossible to do. (Headcanon: her machine body might’ve been built with deaf ears because constantly breaking the sound barrier might be disastrous to the eardrums, maybe. Also I love her combat style, speed is deadly.)

3. The mental disability representation from Thena: This was done so well, with Ajak continuously reminding her, “You are loved,” with the others supporting her in not wanting to give up who she is, with Gilgamesh agreeing to keep her company through the years and constantly being there to remind her that just because she can’t fight the same way she used to doesn’t mean she is less loved. 

Mental illness can become more difficult to deal with when one experiences the loss of a loved one. Thena’s character arc showed that though Gilgamesh was gone, the progress she had made and the determination to stay with her recovery did not become null. Sometimes remembering the love that was given to you is the reminder you need to continue to accept yourself, illness and all. (That cave battle metaphor for mental illness was on point. The Deviant was doomed the moment he quoted Gilgamesh without truly understanding the humanity he’d stolen from him.)

4. Phastos’s loving family representation: How about this disillusioned god of inventions, who saw all the bad that humanity could do and also rediscovered the good that humanity could offer? He’s a gay black man who’s got a happy, loving relationship with his handsome husband and his beautiful son. Wow did I love seeing this on the big screen. (Also his combat scenes? What a badass.)

5. Ajak, Ikaris, Gilgamesh, and fate: Let’s talk about these three. In a way, Ajak and Ikaris’s endings were almost fated due to the choices they made. Ajak could’ve chosen to stand her ground sooner, or could’ve not burdened her favorite child with the heaviest weight she carried. Ikaris could’ve chosen to accept the change of plans and reassessed his faith earlier. But neither of them could shake off the responsibility they were indoctrinated into that easily. Ajak’s favor of Ikaris might’ve doomed them both, but how could a mother love her son and not give him a chance to prepare for the approaching end? Could she have truly avoided raising him in the spitting image of herself? The loneliness she must have felt, with her burden. A Shakespearean tragedy, in the flesh.

In contrast, Gilgamesh did nothing to deserve his fate. Where Ajak was the Mind, Gilgamesh was obviously the Heart. He’s the one who volunteers to dedicate his life to helping Thena live hers. Without Gilgamesh, Ikaris would’ve died in the Amazon forest. He’s the protector, readily sharing comforting words and good food, as well as a badass fist. You could say he’s the purest embodiment of who an Eternal is. It makes me feel some type of thing, knowing that the tale of Gilgamesh is the first human epic we have a remaining record of, and it’s the story of a man who grew into a good, compassionate king and met a very human death. (Interesting how the Deviant became so human-like after absorbing Gilgamesh’s essence.)

Ajak, Ikaris, and Gilgamesh, despite their godly power, are not named after gods. They are named after mortal heroes (Ajax and Icarus from Greek mythology, Gilgamesh from ancient Mesopotamian mythology). Like their namesakes, it was not their power that defined who they were, and for them were reserved the most human ends.

6. Ikaris, Sprite, and immortality: They really came for my throat with the Peter Pan and Tinkerbell reference. Eternal youth isn’t all that great, especially for Sprite or Ikaris. Peter Pan killed his mother because he couldn’t bear to break out of his old way of life. He was unwilling to grow up. In contrast, Sprite wants more than anything else to be able to grow up, but is held in stagnation against her will. But in the end, when Peter Pan is gone and Wendy Darling is the new immortal leader of Neverland, Tinkerbell chooses what Wendy Darling had and leaves her old self behind. She changes.

(In the beginning of the movie, the title Eternals sounds grand and impressive. But near the end of the movie, when Ikaris talks about eternity with Sersi, the name no longer sounds glorious. Eternity sounds like a curse.)

7. Kingo and his faith: Take notes, Ikaris, this is how not to wage a holy war in the name of your faith. Kingo did leave Sprite to loneliness to pursue his love of movies, but at his core, his first and foremost love is for his family. (Something about Fighter Classes and how they throw themselves into danger for the other robot deities does something to my heart.) Despite his love for humanity, he cannot compromise his beliefs. That does not mean he is willing to harm others for that faith, because that is not what faith should be for. (Looking at you, Ikaris.)

8. Druig and his burned-out love: What a way to deal with a morally gray mind-controlling god, whose only wish was for humans to stop fighting and live companionably together. Here’s this deeply tired, flawed person who was unable to lose his empathy, however hard he may have wanted to. He was willing to shoulder the blame for preventing a Celestial’s birth if it meant sparing Sersi the weight, and I think that might be the essence of his character.

9. Sersi and her destructive creation: Finally, we come to the sorceress of myth (named after Circe from Greek mythology). Sersi is the most loving, kind-hearted person, but the power of creation she wields is the most destructive force of all. She shares the same characteristic with Celestials. This movie seems to be saying, ‘look hard at miraculous acts of creation, and make sure you know what the price of that creation is’.

“It is the most natural thing in the world to want to protect the one you love,” said Gilgamesh. Sersi did so, and so did Ikaris. What a shame that it was such a struggle for Ikaris to do the most natural thing in the world. What a shame that Sersi’s heart made a choice that would weigh her down with enormous guilt and terrible repercussions. It should not be so terrible to want to protect, and yet.

(Maybe it’s the way these robot deities were programmed, but every one of these people seem to have an instinctive love for humans and their world. That includes Ikaris, who took one last look back at the beautiful planet he had loved for several millennia, before flying into his destruction. If he had listened to love more than duty, things might be different. But then he wouldn’t be Ikaris. Again, Shakespearean.)

10. Celestials and their birth: What if all Celestials who were brought forth into the world by Eternals are a little in love with them, from that first mind-meld at the beginning of their life? What if Tiamut, while connecting with these tiny implements of birth and creation, saw their sorrow for the destruction of a beloved planet and chose—with a newborn deity’s own free will—to make the sacrifice for these grieving, loving robots? (Why the continuous cycle of rebirth for this specific group of robots? Can this expression of sentiment be explained in any other way than love? Arishem may not be aware how much his tools are loved.) 

(Also I can’t believe the eventual death of the universe, which is highly likely considering the actual science of everything, can be explained mythologically as Star-Forgers who grew too compassionate for the products of their creations and chose a slow and certain death over a hard-reset cycle. What a story.)

(If you think of the planet as the mother and the Celestial as the child, the movie is a pro-abortion metaphor. Of course mothers have a right to abortion if the pregnancy is life-threatening. The potential for new life cannot outweigh the free choice of who is already here. It’s a question of seeing humans as mere implements of procreation or as actualized individuals with vibrant lives.)

11. Love can take many forms: Safe, sane, and consensual sex is a perfectly natural activity for humans in love. Cohabitation of platonic life partners is also a perfectly natural manifestation of love. Familial love is a wonderful thing when shared with the right people. Kissing is a beautiful affirmation of love, but it is not a requirement for two people to share a special connection together. The forehead touches in this movie made me scream internally. (Druig and Makkari own my soul, by the way. I don’t entirely understand how this happened. My heart I’ve given to Gilgamesh and Thena. Sersi can have my everything else.)

12. Found Family Dynamics: This actually wrecked me. The way Sersi and Ikaris acted in Phastos’s home, like they felt comfortable to be there, in that house and in that company. The way Ajak loved and cared for her children, and how she tried her hardest to do right by them despite knowing she was merely a tool. The way Druig, Makkari, and Phastos shared a couch. The way everyone laughed around Gilgamesh’s dinner table. The way Sprite told a story. The way Kingo said the word “family.” The way they waited for Thena to wake up. Just, so much about them. (I might need some AU fics to mend the hole they left in me.)

13. The Good Humans: Shout-out to Dane, Karun, Phastos’s family, and the other good humans I’m probably forgetting. Congratulations, your decency and kindness prompted a group of robot deities to fight for your continued survival. Keep being the good parts of humanity.

Conclusion: This is the best multi-character movie I have seen in my life. I became so intensely enamored with all of the individual characters, it was unreal. THIS is how you do a multi-character movie. What a masterpiece.

The first time ikaris and sersi every have close physical proximity... compared to druig and makkari after 7k years? That's kinda... weird. Considering how many more forehead touches sersi and ikaris have in this movie this is a strange comparison to make

ok but can we talk about the way their body languages differ???

ikaris is intimidating, chest out, crowding her space in the same way he’d stand up against someone he was about to fight. not an ounce of love or affection in his eyes. and sersi, she’s looking down, maybe not scared but definitely tense. there’s a clear power dinamic here at play.

drug and makkari are the absolute opposite: they’re more than lovers, they’re best friends. they’re equals. makkari isn’t tense or scared, she’s right there with him, just as into it. his body language screams calm, non-aggressiveness. his eyes are soft, and he’s not trying to get anything from her. he’s just loving her for the sake of loving her, expecting nothing in return. which is why he’s so so grateful for whatever she decides to give him.

I don’t know what to tell people who saw the movie and thought Ikaris wasn’t in love with Sersi; for me everything he did outside the mission was for her; to be with her. That is the reason we don’t see him having a life in the present; because he doesn’t have one; he retreated from society. Before he learns the truth we see him learning the humans language, partaking in their traditions he does that because he wants to be close to Sersi. In fact he tells her that; he knows the only way to be with her, to spent time with her is to learn to love the humans as she does. But then he learns the truth; that their mission isn’t to save the humans, it’s to preserve the planet for the birth of a celestial (and with the birth of a celestial the birth if millions of other planets, and millions of other lives) remember as humans we see Earth as the be all end all but Ikaris is looking at the bigger picture if celestials aren’t born then new life can’t begin blame Arishem it’s his flaw in the design. 

So for Ikaris to save earth is denying life to be born across the universe. He’s a solider; his loyal to Arishem and Ajak. But then he looks at Sersi; the woman he’s loved for thousands of years; he sees how in love she is with the humans and he can’t bare tell her the truth, he bares it for the both of them, for the whole family. So he retreats; leaves the only person who could make him feel ‘human’ who ‘grounded him’. He spends the rest of his time waiting for the birth of the celestial for them to be ‘reborn’ on another planet and for him to get to fall in love with Sersi all over again; because that’s the only way his sacrifice was truly worth it. Then a couple of days before the birth Ajak tells him the plan has changed: changed?! To Ikaris this means his sacrifice; giving up Sersi, living a live of solitude (he clearly has no one else) was all for nothing; of course he’d cling to his loyalty to Arishem; what about all the lives that needs to be born? What about the mission he’d spent thousands of years persevering; without Sersi that is his only purpose and who is he without a purpose? He never allowed himself to get close to the humans; because he knew they were going to die. 

So he kills Ajak (inadvertently) and thinks if he can keep the team busy he get through this; make it to the birth and then they’ll all be back together again on another planet as a family. Remember Ikaris was the only one who didn’t want the family to split up. But then Sersi learns the truth and the team want to stop it and his forced to act against them. I could go on about how in the final scene he went easy on them but I digress. The truth is out: his “did she?” when Sersi says Ajak loved him says it all. Did she love him? He now questions it; because why would she burden him with this if she loved him? Why would she have changed her mind and not even consulted him? If she did love him how could she let him carry such a heavy burden? Do the team even love him; are they even a family? All this swimming in his head. The reason Ajak made Sersi the leader is two fold one; she will protect the humans; and two; she is the one thing Ikaris can never kill. 

So he breaks free; finds Sersi and stands before her; ready to ‘kill her’ and he can’t. In that moment he chooses love; he chooses Sersi over the mission; over Arishem, over the grand design. Because in that moment he finally realises that she was worth more; that his family was worth more. So he can’t do it; can’t kill her; he fails, as a solider he has failed the mission. He has broken their trust, he had destroyed their family. So he apologises (not expecting anything in return) and flies off. He stares down at the earth and for the first time since he arrived he finally sees the beauty. A parallel to the opening scene when Sersi says “it’s beautiful isn’t it?” but he was only looking at her. Now he’s looking at the earth, at everything the humans had accomplished and yes Sersi was right it was beautiful, it was worth saving. So he flies off into the sun with acceptance; he knows Sersi is strong, knows she can lead the team; and finally with the true understanding of why she loved the humans he atones for his sin the only way he knows how; through death.

This is what I took away from it? Am I alone?

Bucky invites Clint and the new Avengers to stay at his place and Bucky joins the team. A lot of interactions and Bucky and Clint even copilot the quinjet. If you were only to read one arc of this run go with #48-52 as it really set ups the dynamics and tensions in the team

Ponds and Picnics

You, Hange, and Levi had been together for a while (four months to be exact) and not only did you three struggle to get into the swing of things at the beginning, but you really did doubt that it would work out between the three of you considering how difficult your differing personalities could make things. So, in honor of going through hell in back for this long, you decided it was time for a celebration, and what better way to do that, than with a picnic. It's sweet, simple, and there's little to nothing that can go wrong with food by a pond....or so you thought.

The day started out simple enough, you Hange, and Levi all made your way to finding a good spot to sit at, should be simple enough, however, being the way you three are, nothing short of indecisiveness was something very common with you guys. "I think a perfect spot would be by the the edge of the pond, I wanna be close to the ducks", Hange said excitedly. You weren't opposed to the idea, ducks weren't all that bad and the pond was a nice enough view, but "Absolutely not", you heard Levi say "It's bad enough you have us out here sitting in the grass, but I draw the line at sitting close enough to the water that we risk getting the food wet." You sighed, knowing he had a point, but really, was it that big of deal. "Levi, it's not that serious, plus, wouldn't it be nice to be able to sit and listen to the sound of the waves while we eat?" you try reasoning. "No, besides aren't you allergic to grass?" you ignore him, knowing that he's right, but this was supposed to be a fun outing for the three of you, you can get over a little itching if it means spending time with the people that you love.

You feel Hange walk up behind you and wrap their arms around you as they rest their chin on your shoulder and sigh "I really don't care if we sit close to the pond or not, I just wanna spend time with you both and y'know eat. Kinda hungry if I'm being honest" You chuckle at that and finally pick a random spot to sit at, hopefully thay satisfies them both. You unpack everything from the picnic basket, laying everything out nearly, and soon enough, you all get your share and begin eating. After a while, Hange says that they want to go mess with ducks, leaving you and Levi alone, watching Hange trying (and failing) to get the duck's attention.

As you're watching, you feel Levi's Hand on yours, and you look over at him. "I, uh, just wanted to say thank you." "For what?" he goes silent for a second before sighing and speaking again "For this. The picnic. And you know, putting up with us for this long." you chuckle a little bit, wanting to drag it out and say "Did the Levi Ackerman, stoic face enthusiast, just say 'thank you'? Who would have thought?" "Yeah, yeah. Laugh all you want, but I'm being serious. The last time I ever try being nice" he mutters. You laugh a little, before leaning again, and kissing his cheek. He goes still for a second, physical affection still being a learning process for the both of you, before relaxing again and giving you a small smile.

You notice Hange coming towards the both of you, except now you see thag they've brought a new companion. "It took a while, but I finally got one." you laugh at the duck that Hange has cradled in their arms, looking a little pissed that some random person has moved it from it's comfortable place in the pond. Hange sets the duck down, trying to get Levi to show it some attention "I swear, if you don't get that thing away from me right now" "Oh come on, look at how cute it is." Soon enough, the two of them are up and running around, Levi away from Hange and the duck, and the other two after Levi, resulting in Levi, usually pretty light on his feet, tripping and falling into the pond. You gasp, wondering if he's okay, before you and Hange loom at each other, and laugh. Levi makes his way out of the pond, glaring at the both of you, making you laugh even harder.

A few hours later, you're all laying down, the night sky now looming over you as the stars begin shining, Hange cuddled up next you on one side and Levi holding your hand on the other side. "Today was fun" you hear Hange whisper. "Yeah it was, what about you Levi?" You don't hear an answer, so you look over, only to be met with a sleeping Levi. You chuckle and motion for Hange to look over, before you both softly laugh. "Should we wake him up?" you ask, "Nah, let him sleep, he looks peaceful" You lay back down, laughing again, and sigh, taking in the night air, and relaxing in the feeling of contentment and solace.
