please do look it up if you dont know the date bc there may be at least an approximate answer and otherwise the last option will completely dominate and this poll will be boring.
and dont be like 'but i cant sing'... just answer the earliest tune you know well enough that you COULD sing it
periods of western classical music provided only for reference

to be fair though, at least in my community, kid garb gets passed around for YEARS once the original kid grows out of it. I still see kids that I've never met running around at events wearing garb I used to wear, and I grew out of it like twenty years ago.

smiled & nodded my way through half of the "you're so brave, oh i could never" conversation today with older white office lady before i realized she was talking specifically about my sideshave haircut & not like, my entire trans self
#funniest thing that happened to me#this old knight said that to me at fight practice one day#and i assumed bc of the context he was talking about my size#bc a lot of heavy fighters are weird about me being Tiny#but no he was talking about me being trans 😂#am i a stickjock now#trans in the sca

oh right, I never posted the photos from last year! the pics from Rose & Thorn last year turned out fantastic:
went to Rose & Thorn over the weekend! it's a new(ish) SCA event focused on women and gender minority fighters! (this was the second year it's happened, I went last year as well)
lots of cool classes and panels. the tourneys were restricted to only women and gender minority fighters, though plenty of other folks showed up for pickup fights and classes and whatnot as well. it was bigger this year, 2 days instead of 1, with some instructors coming in from out of kingdom.
I love having a space of our own 💚
#normally I'd be more hesitant to post pics with other people in them#but they're all on facebook already so it doesn't matter#and yes the somewhat larger person in matching armor standing next to me in some of the pics is my twin#am i a stickjock now#scablr

have a couple medieval dance tunes, feat. my hammered dulcimer and me in my pajamas since I have no reason to leave the house
edit: I have a ko-fi now! if my content makes you smile and you feel like tossing a coin my way, feel free to do so!
edit: I'm on youtube now too!
edit: okay I know it's been like 3 years but maybe if I respond in the original post people will stop making the same comments:
I'm not a girl. I use he/they pronouns. Stop saying you want me to be your girlfriend, that's just weird.
The songs I'm playing are Tourdion (first published by Pierre Attaingnant in 1530) and Goddesses (published in Playford's Dancing Master in 1651). Yes, I'm aware that makes them Renaissance not medieval. I didn't bother to specify in a post I didn't expect to break a dozen notes.
Apparently the band Blackmore Nights incorporates Tourdion in one of their songs. That tracks; Tourdion is one of the most well-known Renaissance dance tunes in the modern day.
Yes, the hammered dulcimer is a medieval instrument. It's been around in the Middle East since about the 10th century, in Europe since the 12th century. Hammered dulcimers like mine, with additional bridges to create more courses, have been around since the 16th century.
More sources under the cut:
Detail from "The Rutland Psalter", medieval (c1260), British Library Add MS 62925. f 73v
Birth of Christ (detail, 1512) by Jacob van Oostzanen. Naples, Museo e Gallerie Nazionali di Capodimonte.
#reblogging bc i've added commentary#someone in the notes was saying that the hammered dulcimer isn't a medieval instrument 🙄#and someone else was calling me out for calling them medieval when they're actually renaissance#which is fair i just tend to lump them together as 'within SCA period' vs. 'out of period'#if I'd known it would get more than a dozen notes I would have. yannow. been more specific.#anyways#this is still getting notes and i have no idea how

#oh mood#yeah like I'm tiny and i use a short sword and there's this guy at my weekly practoce#who's this like 6'5“ bodybuilder type and uses a glaive#and we've about at equal skill levels#but it really exaggerates the natural differences between us#whenever we fight i have to basically charge him#block his initial blow and then don't let him get awqy#i end up basically chasing him around the gym floor#very high energy fights 😅

Admittedly not the most period fabric choice, but sometimes we get to put the "creative" in SCA :P I debuted this at the Blue Feather social at Lilies a couple of weeks ago.
The tunica is a linen gauze and the beads on the sleeves are little moonstone clouds, for maximum cuteness.
The belt was brand new and made for me by a talented and awesome friend.
The necklace I made a while ago. I like the idea behind the rainbow chains and stuff that have been going around, wanted a more period option for myself. I've never seen an example in this kind of color configuration, but the general design and all the stones/glass are period for me.
