SPORT'S UPDATE NOW:Faith Kipyegon Shortlisted For Laureus Award

Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon has been nominated for the prestigious 2024 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award slated for April 22, 2024, in Madrid.

Kipyegon who is also the World 1500m record holder, will battle for honors alongside her track compatriots, the World 100-meter champion Sha’Carri Richardson and the two-time World 200m champion Shericka Jackson.

The 30-year-old will also face the Alpine Skier Mikaela Shiffrin, Spanish football star Atana Bonmati and Tennis star Iga Swiatek.

Kipyegon broke the 1500-meter world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy and less than a week later, she shattered the 5000-meter world record in Paris, France.

Kipyegon then won the 1500m and 5000m gold medals at the World Championships in Budapest before claiming the 1500-meter Diamond League Trophy.

FROM PRESIDENT DESK : I am glad that the issues affecting the flow of petroleum products between Kenya and Uganda are being resolved.

We have agreed on a way forward of sourcing and scheduling imports for the region in a manner that will ensure we achieve the most competitive pricing and maximum logistical efficiency.

In my meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today, we also discussed the need for the two countries to urgently pursue the design and construction of the earlier conceptualized Eldoret-Kampala-Kigali refined petroleum product pipeline.

Kenya and Uganda are committed to the deepening of the long-established diplomatic and economic ties between our two countries. This relationship includes bringing all the seven East African Community nations closer in their ultimate goal to form the East African Political Federation.

Had the pleasure of meeting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at his Kisozi country home in Uganda. We discussed critical issues that affect our two countries such as energy and petroleum.

Also discussed was the declared candidacy of Kenya's former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the Africa Union Commission chairmanship.

UPDATES NOW: President William Ruto has been picked as the new African Union Champion for Institutional Reform, at the ongoing Assembly of the African Union heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In his new capacity, President Dr Ruto will among other things provide political leadership and vision that will contribute towards completing the Comprehensive Institutional Reform Initiative.

President Ruto takes over from President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, who previously held the position.

Man Stabs Elder Brother To Death Over Food In Siaya

The suspect is said to have attacked his 26-year-old brother while demanding for food before they picked a quarrel that resulted into the unfortunate incident.

According to Kakumu-Kombewa sub-location Assistant Chief Philip Ogola, the deceased was preparing an evening meal when the suspect came in with his demands.

A 24-year-old man is being held at Siaya Police Station after he allegedly stabbed his elder brother to death over food at Sirongo-Oware village in Central AlegoThe suspect, Lawrence Oduor Wayodi, is said to have attacked his 26-year-old brother Erick Otieno while demanding for food before they picked a quarrel that resulted into the unfortunate incident.

According to Kakumu-Kombewa sub-location Assistant Chief Philip Ogola, the deceased was preparing an evening meal when the suspect came in with his demands.The deceased reportedly excused himself from their late parents’ kitchen and walked down to his house then came back after a few minutes, only to find the knife that he had used to cut tomatoes missing.

The administrator said that when Otieno asked for the knife, Oduor poured water into the fire then picked a fight with him before drawing the knife which he used to stab him to death.

The two brothers who are total orphans have been staying at their late parents’ home, with Mr. Ogola stating that after committing the heinous act, Oduor presented himself to his office to report that he had killed his bother.

The Assistant Chief stated that he visited the scene and found the deceased’s body lying in a pool of blood with several knife wounds all over the chest.

He then called the police who took the body to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary, while the suspect was placed in custody to help with investigations.
