The Moon; Showing Love/Needing Love
The Moon is a vital component to our personalities. It can show us how we go about showing love for others (and ourselves) and in what aspects we need love. Within the birth chart, positive interchanges between the Moon and personal planets can demonstrate a healthy and developed Moon sign; this is especially true with positive interchanges to Venus. These individuals hold special value in showing love and comfort for others and themselves. We can see a similar outcome in synastry charts when one individual’s Moon has positive interchanges with the other person’s Sun, Moon, or Venus. A positive interchange between one person’s Sun and another person’s Moon demonstrates the most natural compatibility two people could have. These relationships often have the most ease because one individual’s core or character (Sun) aids and uplifts the other’s needs (Moon). Similarly, compatibility between two Moons represents ease in a relationship as two people share like-minded needs; Positive Moon and Venus interchanges in synastry demonstrate ease in understanding and fulfilling another person’s needs.
Aries Moon
How they show love: An Aries’ innate curiosity is their not-so-subtle way of demonstrating love. Aries will go out of their way to spend time with the people they love and actively display interest in them. They can be very passionate and excitable around those they love, like every friend or loved one is another log in their firepit. Aries can also frustratingly push for activity with their loved ones, such as new experiences. They are very impatient and forceful towards the people they care about, but it is simply because they’d love to see them on the same level of hype as they are. Aries’ also demonstrate their love by confidence boosting or role modeling their energy.
What they need: Aries really need patience from others to feel loved and understood; they know they can be frustrating, but they will appreciate those who bare with them. They also really need someone to match their energy or someone to validate their energy; someone to riot with, or someone who is willing to understand their riot. Calming an Aries storm is a plus in their world too.
Taurus Moon
How they show love: A Taurus’ love language tend to fall in line with physical touch and specific acts of service. While physical touch is more obvious (hugs, kisses, cuddles, etc.), acts of service tends to play out in a very background kind of way. Taurus Moon individual’s can quietly carry an entire family’s burden on their backs and be a sanctuary of security and comfort. All who they love the dearest is their babies in their mind. They go out of their way to nurture the emotional well-being of others. In their network of love, they work the hardest and serve their own plate last.
What they need: Physical touch and outlets to relax. The fixed signs, such as Taurus, are guilty of holding onto emotional tension which then turns into physical tension. They need to be shown that they too can be cradled into someone’s arms and melt away. Taurus love massages, dedicated time to rest, and having some of the workload taken off of them. Good food doesn’t hurt also!
Gemini Moon
How they show love: Geminis are the spending quality time type. They can ease away tensions and anxieties with their ability to distract. Gemini Moons have an abundant presence, so while they can lead conversations, they can also direct comfortable silences too. They are great at reading the room and they are perceptive of the technicalities of others needs. With their cooled approach, they will rationalize and come up with creative ways to aid these needs. Their mental toolbox is chalked-full of ideas; “maybe you need to look at it from this perspective,” “I have just the movie for this,” “let’s go for a walk and talk it out!”
What they need: Their chilled exterior can often hide lots of inner anxieties. They really need someone to listen to their tangents. They also really need someone to tell them not to over rationalize their feelings, “you’re just feeling like this, there doesn’t need to be a because, and that’s okay.” They need people to spend their abundant, emotional energies with; vent about it, joke about it, etc.
Cancer Moon
How they show love: Cancers are very protective of their emotional world, so opening that world up to someone is their way of demonstrating love. Emotional vulnerability portrays their deepest act of sincerity. A Cancer’s innate mothering qualities is another way they demonstrate love. They want to create security for their loved ones as well as encourage personal growth. They reassure loved ones directly that their love is unconditional and uncircumstantial. Cancers are very sentimental about physical togetherness, so quality face-to-face time is an important aspect to how they show love.
What they need: Cancers need that natural nurturing quality returned. As much as they want to create security and comfort for their loved ones, they too need others to shield for them. Cancers need to be shown that they are safe; one can do this by dedicating time spent with a Cancer, perhaps inviting them over to your home or spending time at home in a familiar environment.
Leo Moon
How they show love: Leos are known for praise and thoughtfulness. Leos like showing love through acknowledging others accomplishments that have been forgotten or overlooked. Leos are great at figuring out what is important to others and demonstrating praise, approval, and confidence building language. Leos can also be very thoughtful; they aren’t the “gift-giving” type, though when they find things that remind them of their dearest companions and loved ones, they will go out of their way to give gifts with special meaning. Similar to how a cat chooses whose lap to curl up in, Leos also show love by making one feel “chosen.”
What they need: Leos need verbal and physical praise. Leos find themselves in situations of self-doubt when without reminders of affirmation. Compliments, advice, pats on the back, and encouragement are a few ways to demonstrate affirmation. When in doubt though, a long hug goes a long way with Leos.
Virgo Moon
How they show love: Virgos choose their words carefully and eloquently and this is how we can acknowledge their way of showing love. Though they are not one of the outright expressive Moon signs such as Cancer, they’ll know exactly what to say or write to make someone feel loved. Though cliché for a Virgo, acts of service is also their way of demonstrating care. They don’t mind doing the small things just to make someone’s life a little easier. Virgos also love leaving things better than when they first found them; physical improvements equate to mental improvements. Virgos also have a tendency of checking in with their loved ones; “have you eaten the right food today?,” “a shower might make you feel better,” “did you get enough fresh air today?,” etc.
What they need: Virgos need acknowledgement that they are doing enough. There is a major tendency towards inadequacy and guilt when they feel like they aren’t doing the right things or enough things. Virgos need reminders of what they’ve accomplished and improvements they’ve made thus far. Remedy their nerves with tea and quality time; nothing can make a Virgo feel more loved than showing them life can be simple.
Libra Moon
How they show love: Libras really set aside their own emotional needs for others; they would much rather please others than have to deal with their emotional world. They graciously give and bend their energy to their loved ones to promote harmony and contentment in their lives; “how can I make them feel comfortable?,” “how can I make them feel wanted?,” how can I make them feel luxurious?” They can be zealous in their efforts to beautify the world around their loved ones. Libras are absolutely the gift-giving type and they don’t need an occasion for it either. They enjoy surprising their loved ones and spoiling them when they can.
What they need: Libras need to see gratitude for their efforts. Libra Moons live in an emotional world best described as “I don’t know,” so words of affirmation from their loved ones is very important. They also genuinely like hearing what you want from them as they are eager to please. Give Libras decisiveness and they will feel loved.
Scorpio Moon
How they show love: A Scorpio demonstrates love with extreme obviousness and intensity. Their love is the smothering kind. Since Scorpios like control over their emotional world, the love they give, and the love they recieve, they use many modes of love languages. Physical and emotional intensity are the most obvious. They have an aggressive neediness for their loved ones; if they need you, they won’t beat around the bush about it, they will go and get you. Scorpios demonstrate the peak of their love when they reveal secrets and create or bond over a secret with another.
What they need: Scorpios really need vulnerability from others. A lot of that “control-freak” persona Scorpio holds is from fear. By actively creating an environment of trust for them, they will feel loved and like they have a special bond. Scorpios really need emotional intimacy. Scorpios can also feel loved by others who give them a sense of purpose.
Sagittarius Moon
How they show love: Sagittarius’ best demonstrate love through offering experiences. New experiences, trips, and special outings are a few ways Sagis’ try to ignite the light in another’s eyes. They acknowledge the special bonds formed through experiences or shared learnings. Sagittarius’ will go out of there way to place that booking, whether it be a concert, a campsite, hotel, or a niche workshop. Don’t feel like leaving the house? Sagis’ can get pretty creative around the house too; crafting, new recipes to try, documentaries to stream, new hobbies to take up. Honestly, don’t even be surprised if your Sagittarius brings home a tattoo gun one day. Sagittarius’ love through excitement.
What they need: Sagittarius’ really need mutual excitement and enthusiasm. They find comfort in those who truly listen to their philosophies and laugh at their jokes. Sagittarius’ really need to feel like they are a part of something, so family-like networks are also very important to their well-being despite being considered one of the more “flighty” or independent signs. An ear from many can make a Sagi’ feel truly loved.
Capricorn Moon
How they show love: Capricorns are not always direct in expressing love, but you can really tell one loves you when you are including in their life plans and goals. Capricorns have an innate need to control, so they often express love through being a providing or protective figure in their loved one’s lives. They provide a backbone or structure to their loved ones that would be extremely noticeable if they weren’t around. Capricorns also tend to provide guidance and mentorship to demonstrate care. Capricorns can be quite stingy as well, so if one spends their money on you, it says a lot!
What they need: They need people who can show them the more direct and vulnerable forms of love. They really need intense physical and emotional care; those who can introduce them to these realms of love. Saturn energy can make a person very structured and rigid so they need a good dose of warmth in their life to feel loved.
Aquarius Moon
How they show love: Without trines or sextiles, Aquarius’ showing love can be very subtle, hence why this placement is infamously known for being “unemotional.” However, Aquarius’ are fantastic lovers; they often demonstrate love through validation. Aquarius’ have a keen idea of what it’s like to be misunderstood so they’re the ones who are best at making others feel like they’re not a black sheep. They have a “being weird is okay” mentality when the focus isn’t on themselves, so if an Aquarius validates your off-beatness, it most definitely means they love you.
What they need: Aquarius’ really need validation in return for the validation they’re known for giving. Relatability is one way of demonstrating validity. Similar to Taurus and the other Fixed signs, their emotional tension leads to physical crystallization. Creating outlets to release their emotional tension as well as physical touch to aid the built-up tension are two of Aquarius’ biggest needs.
Pisces Moon
How they show love: Pisces have a large capacity to love and they demonstrate this through empathy and their fully immersed listening. They want to help their loved ones through giving advice, relating, or just lending their ear. Pisces are sensitive and openly vulnerable about how they are feelings and this is in hopes that others will relate and connect to them through this. Pisces are always the ones to step into the uncharted territories of the emotional world, leading others behind them; comforting, helping, teaching.
What they need: Pisces really need guidance and clarity. They feel loved when someone is guiding them and giving them definitive truth to how they are feeling. Pisces can often get mixed up about their own feelings, so the ones who really look out for them, Pisces will remember and cherish. Those who show a willingness to connect also make Pisces feel loved; Pisces would absolutely be enthralled by a nap buddy or meditation partner.

Mars Signs
If Mars is in Aries, one is often attracted to a strong, independent, and forthright partner, perhaps athletic in appearance, but more importantly, direct, confident, and straightforward. Ultra sensitive or shy lovers are not usually the most attractive lovers to these people, as they tend to prefer strong and independent types. Partners who don’t beat around the bush, who state what they want, and who display a certain level of confidence are ideal.
If Mars is in Taurus, one is often attracted to lovers who possess a stable, secure, and very strong aura about them. Meat-and-potatoes types are definitely these people’s “cup of tea”. Unstable, overly intellectual, or “flaky” lovers are simply not what these people would define “real men/women”. These people like their lovers simple to please, traditionally masculine/feminine, and strong. They often are especially turned on by sexually simple but sensual lovers.
If Mars is in Gemini, intelligence ranks very high on one’s list of ideal qualities in a partner. An athletic or tomboyish look, sometimes on the slim side, is often preferred. Wittiness is a huge turn-on for these people. Versatility, liveliness, and playfulness are qualities in lovers that these people find devastatingly attractive. They’re not especially impressed with what they might consider “less evolved” types of lovers who display more typical, or traditional, masculine/feminine traits. Depressed or boring types won’t do. These people want to be stimulated, and their brains are their biggest sexual organs.
If Mars is in Cancer, one may prefer the “sensitive type” of partner who is compassionate, sensitive, and protective. These people sometimes are attracted to temperamental sorts, finding moodiness in a partner rather intriguing. They want lovers with “layers” (remember Shrek?). However, they are not into the type of “sensitive” lovers that Mars in Pisces people are most attracted to. In fact, they generally want lovers who are strong and traditionally masculine/feminine. Generally, these people prefer lovers who are physically strong or at least look that way - they love to feel protected.
If Mars is in Leo, one may be attracted to lovers who are proud, outgoing, and perhaps even gaudy. Aloofness or a dignified, confident aura is usually appealing to these people. These people are more inclined to enjoy lovers who possess a rather bold, confident manner–and style! Playfulness and fun are very important to these people, and the uptight type or overly serious partner is not going to do it for them. Stinginess is a huge turn-off, too. These people want their lovers generous, dignified, and confident. These people do want their lovers to be a little possessive and jealous, as it makes them feel more alive, wanted, and attractive.
If Mars is in Virgo, an appealing partner to one’s is usually an understated, rather simple appearance without too much glamour or ostentatiousness. Healthy, natural, and clean are most appealing physical qualities, and a certain amount of intelligence as well as a modest, sensible approach to life. These people are turned off by lovers who are overly confident, bossy, or unkind. They are looking for perceptive lovers who are kind and helpful. Competency is important, but these people aren’t big on lovers who are show-offs. A quietly competent aura is best.
If Mars is in Libra, one is most attracted to lovers with understated charm, good manners, and a pleasing and balanced appearance. Coarseness or rudeness is often a turn-off, and so is independence! These people prefer lovers who are cooperative and who are willing to please. Romantic lovers are a huge turn-on, and these people truly appreciate classy sorts.
If Mars is in Scorpio, a complicated, dark, powerful, and passionate partner is the biggest turn-on. One wants a partner with “layers”- one who has depth and is complicated enough to intrigue them. One is especially attracted to lovers who ooze sensuality, who are perhaps a little dark and mysterious (even brooding), and who have a magnetic and powerful aura. Intensity is a turn-on for these people - flighty, superficial, and indifferent types need not apply! These people generally do enjoy a certain level of possessiveness in a partner.
If Mars is in Sagittarius, one is most impressed with a partner who is playful, fun, intelligent, and honest. An energetic, happy aura in a partner is often most appealing. Joking around is a must, and a huge turn-on for these people! They want to have a good time, and to have long conversations with their lovers as well. They are not especially attracted to lovers who are overly groomed; generally don’t like too much “decoration” or lovers who put on airs.  A tousled, casual appearance is just fine with these people - in fact, it’s preferred.  A partner’s status is not of huge interest to these people - they are looking for honest partners whose egos aren’t tied up in what they do for a living or how they look.
If Mars is in Capricorn, one is generally attracted to competent lovers, perhaps well-established business types or otherwise accomplished lovers. One doesn’t necessarily go for status, but one does want a partner who has an aura of competence about them. One is looking for a certain level of security, and is unimpressed with lovers who are drifters, irresponsible, or flighty. A stable, directed partner with goals in life and a responsible, even serious, attitude to life is important to this person.
If Mars is in Aquarius, one can be most impressed by lovers who are somewhat unconventional or kooky in their choice of clothes and overall style. One wants an interesting partner; they can certainly be attractive, but boring? Hardly. A partner with a brain is important, although one won’t be attracted to a brainy type. Somebody who is perceptive, a little unconventional, and perhaps somewhat aloof is most attractive. Rigid or boring types simply won’t do.
If Mars is in Pisces, one is often impressed with a partner who is sensitive, compassionate, and intriguingly complicated. Lacking in confidence is just fine, and so is a touch of helplessness. A “starving artist” type may be appealing, or a partner who is downtrodden in some way, as these people enjoy lovers who have a distinct soft side. The strong, independent types are not turn-ons for these people.

Random Observations ‘bout the Mars Signs
Mars in Aries: Aggressively pursues whatever they’re after, whether it’s a goal or a person or a victory. “Short fuse” is an understatement. Not afraid to say or do anything they believe in. Can have a bit of a childish view of the world, no patience for the complexities. Often become heroes in the eyes of others for their diehard strength of will, but also get a lot of eyerolls and facepalms from people who think they’re too reckless or reactionary. They like to go hard and fast in relationships (in more ways than one), so they don’t have the time for people who aren’t upfront, honest, and confident about what they want. They’re the type of person who would leap into a burning building to save someone, without a second thought.
Mars in Taurus: Stubborn, stubborn, stubborn. Get really grouchy sometimes. The hardest workers you’ll ever meet, especially in blue-collar job environments. Artistic types with this placement will actually finish their projects because they’re willing to power through the nitty-gritty boring bits that so many of us flaky, flighty artists get stuck on. If they enjoy sex, they really enjoy it and have the stamina to go all night, but a lot of them seem to be uncomfortable with sex or even outright asexual. Many of them have literally the worst opinions on politics. But they’re solid, dependable people who will do anything to protect the ones they care about – they don’t just say it, they do it.
Mars in Gemini: Their brains are always buzzing, they have a natural taste for knowledge. Their childlike curiosity is so freaking cute. Very good with words, they speak and type compulsively and even if their grammar/punctuation is shit, the spirit of what they say is almost always worth reading or listening to. They have many interests and many people “interested” in them, if y’know what I mean. Funny and charming is their default state and they probably don’t know how to turn it off. They also don’t know how to stick to one person, goal, or idea because there are so many tempting options that set the wheels in their heads a-spinnin’.
Mars in Cancer: Extremely moody people, but they hide it fairly well. They build up a thick shell to conceal how sensitive they are to changes in scenery and circumstance. They get very attached to people, places, and pets. Likely to be very clingy and needy when it comes to love and sex, but also very giving. Cuddles are recommended, though they’ll need to really trust you before they’re comfortable with physical contact.  Like all Cancer placements, they complain a lot to blow off steam and deflect their nervous energy. The more time you spend with them, the more you can pick up on the roiling, boiling stew of emotions that’s constantly bubbling underneath their defensive crabby surface.
Mars in Leo: Can be obnoxiously arrogant and oblivious to how they’re perceived. Self-awareness is not one of their strong suits, but self-expression certainly is. They really crave attention, admiration, and appreciation. The good ones are worth giving it to because they mean well and have a generous loving heart, but the bad ones won’t shut up about how great they are and go into a red-hot rage when they don’t get what they want. Very pushy people, no concept of boundaries. They treat love like a performance art, which is why the courtship stage is their favorite part. They’re usually very selfish sex partners who come up with some wildly imaginative roleplay scenarios. You’ll either love them or hate them, which they proudly proclaim because they get a kick out of being dramatic like that.
Mars in Virgo: Always strives for perfection in everything they do. Workaholics. Often come across as condescending or judgy. Their sarcasm is legendary. When they talk about sex, they describe it clinically and bluntly, it’s not something they romanticize as sacred. Many of them honestly do despise their fellow humans and will stick their nosy asses in everywhere to “fix” things. The nice way of putting this is that they “just want to bring out the best in you”. If nothing else, they certainly do put in a lot of effort for the people they care about, which they will aggressively guilt-trip you over when they want you to do something in return. There can be a lot of friction between them and their children if they become parents, mostly because they have no idea how to give praise without turning it into a critique.
Mars in Libra: This is an odd place for Mars to settle in because these people get really stressed out and upset by conflict of any form. Doesn’t mean they won’t fight back if you push them, but for the most part they recoil from arguments and will try to subtly nudge everyone into getting along. Because of this, it’s especially painful for them to have a falling out with a friend or family member, and they will always try to move toward forgiving and forgetting the issue even if it’s unforgivable. One of the least sexual placements of Mars – they might have an aversion to even discussing sex. But they’re also skillfully flirty and charming, so don’t assume they don’t have an active love life. They usually believe in the power of “peaceful protests” and “civil disobedience” as a way of changing society for the better. Storytellers with this placement will often write stories where people ultimately talk out their problems and come to an understanding of each other, maybe even achieve world peace in the process. Basically, they’re hippies~
Mars in Scorpio: Even when they’re in a good mood, you can feel hostility suffused in the air around them. Scary as hell when they’re angry. Living with them means walking on eggshells. If they’re artistic they can make beauty out of the most fucked-up subject matter. Fascination with death. Does not know how to compromise, would rather die than give ground on what they believe in. Has the force of will to do pretty much anything. Usually not afraid to talk about sex, for them it’s like discussing the weather. Might be into some really kinky or taboo sex acts, might even be horny 24/7. They dominate others without even having to try. Probably has resting bitch face. When they’re not screaming with rage, they usually maintain complete calm and control in public because they loathe vulnerability of any kind. Being near them is an intense experience no matter who you are.
Mars in Sagittarius: Irreverently funny and playful. No matter how old they get, never stops acting like a kid. Enjoys being physically active in some way, getting out and doing things. Always itching to try something new. Has no attention span. Gets bored before finishing projects and drops them for months at a time. Their energy is infectious. Likes sex to be more physical and raw than emotional. Has no trouble laughing and having fun while doing the deed, and people who make them laugh and excite them are the ones who most attract them. They prefer friendships and romances to work pretty much the same way, relaxed, easygoing, with no pressure to commit to anything. This is why so many of them get into friends-with-benefits situations. When things get serious or the relationship runs into an iceberg, their first instinct is to wimp out and run away instead of stick around and make an effort. Can be absolute hypocrites to the point where it’s shocking how self-unaware they are. Will complain endlessly about things people do that they don’t like, not realizing they do those exact same things all the time. Will bristle at the slightest criticism, they can dish it out but they can’t take it. Their convictions/beliefs are usually based on gut reactions rather than research. Enthusiastic about their passions, can be adorable when they get excited. As frustrating as they can be sometimes, there’s just something so lovable about them that you can’t help but forgive them anyway.
Mars in Capricorn: Have this serious, broody aura about them that can be kind of alluring and intimidating at the same time. Will present themselves as rock-solid even if they’re on the verge of a breakdown. Will put in as much work and dedication to get a job done as it takes, without a single word of complaint. And they really like sex. Like I”m not even kidding, these are some lusty goats we’re talking about. But they don’t usually like admitting how horny they are because it might harm their public image. They put a LOT of work into maintaining that public persona – they secretly want to inspire awe in every person they meet, they’re gluttons for glory but they hate people knowing that so, gotta act all cool and casual. Once they finally find fame and success, they’ll find non-verbal ways to brag about it, because all they really want is for people to be jealous of them for once.
Mars in Aquarius: Questions everything they read. Highly intelligent, incredibly quirky, but never comes across as “nerdy”. Pierces right through people’s fake bullshit. Knows a lot of big words but rarely uses them, because they despise any form of pretentiousness. Has firm beliefs backed up by extensive research, refuses to be pigeonholed into any one movement or ideology. May fall along any point of the political spectrum, and will be very outspoken and capable of strongly arguing the case for their independent views. Hates being labeled. Has trouble feeling attached to their body because they spend so much time in their own mind. Even when they get emotional, some part of them will be detached and objectively analyzing the situation to understand it more fully. They’re the same in relationships – no matter how invested they become, some rational part of them will hold back and hesitate to care. When it comes to sex, they can be even kinkier than Mars in Scorpio. They want to try every possible position at least once, they love to experiment, they will never be satisfied if sex becomes the same routine every time. But in some ways they enjoy thinking about sex more than actually having it – the act itself can be disappointing and dissatisfying for them, partly because they don’t know how to live in the physical moment instead of rationally dissecting the proceedings. They attempt to be open-minded toward everyone they meet, but they can also be coldly cruel and verbally vicious toward people who violate their personal code of ethics. They can be very uncompromising when it comes to their values, and if they ever view you as part of the “problem” in society, you’ll probably be dead to them.
Mars in Pisces: There’s always a touchy-feely atmosphere around these people. Socially conscious, likely to get involved in some form of activism, a cause they believe in. “Belief” is something they have in spades – they’re drawn to mystical mumbo-jumbo and yoga routines. They can out-hippy the Mars in Libra people. Can easily become addicted to things. No matter how tough their other placements make them seem, they have a squishy teddy bear side that the people closest to them will see. Most of them are romantically and sexually submissive on some level, though they may try to hide it. Keeping things hidden is a talent for them, actually. It’s hard to get to know them on a deeper level because so much of their truest self is swimming beneath the surface. Passive aggression is their go-to tactic for expressing anger. Will bend over backwards to make their partner happy – they love both making and receiving sweet gestures of affection. Most of them have a deep appreciation for art and aesthetics even if they aren’t artistic themselves.

our venus is simultaneously our most attractive and most unattractive qualities. it’s usually the thing people love in the beginning but after you part ways it becomes the ‘ugliest’ feature
taurus venus: “they’re an anchor and they never rush” can quickly become “they never did anything adventurous and nothing moved them”
gemini venus: “they’re fun to talk to and keep me on my toes” can quickly become “they talk but they never really say anything and i never know where i stand with them”
libra venus: “they’re charming and easygoing” can quickly become “they’re deceitful and weak-willed”
capricorn venus: “they’re assertive and unbothered by others” can quickly become “they do whatever they want and lack consideration”

a very, very basic introduction to medical astrology
Medicine was among the first and most popular applications of astrology until the 18th century. In its various forms, it was practiced widely across the Middle East, Western Asia and much of Europe. The medical astrology we know today follows mostly Indian, Egyptian, & Greek traditions and was further developed for modern use by Italian occultists and physicians of the 17th century who called it iatromathematics. Due to its origin at the intersection of ancient medicine & philosophy, medical astrology is one of the core defining bodies of knowledge which astrology as a whole is built upon.
Medical astrology was used to delineate an individual’s bodily constitution, strengths, vulnerabilities, and the nature of their physical reactivity to their environment. To analyze a birth chart from a medical perspective means to measure the potential biological effects of astrological arrangements with extreme precision and attention to detail; medical astrologers used every possible indicator to make concrete diagnoses, including the signs, their decans & terms, the planets, their declinations, dispositors, & trajectories, the houses & their lords, aspects, midpoints, and symbolic degrees. In order for this branch of astrology to be useful, such strict precision is absolutely necessary. When practitioners in the mid-1700s tried to over-simplify it, it became largely inaccurate & disreputable and fell out of common practice.
The principles of medical astrology originate within a conceptual system of congruence and essential similarity between all expressions of biology. The ancient Greeks characterized all natural phenomena using four fundamental qualities: hot, cold, wet, and dry. These qualities were a predominant influence on the formation of medical astrology (and astrology in general). Hot: warm, bright, changeable, rapid, expansive Cold: cool, dark, deliberate, constant, conservative Wet: moist, soft, malleable, formless, mixable Dry: parched, hard, brittle, well-defined, solid
The most dynamic measurement of the nature of these qualities is based on their combined actualization, established with Aristotle’s theory of “being and becoming” which followed a model of the four seasons. Hippocrates’ four humors were, in part, a version of those combinations applied to the body. The humors and classical elements developed alongside each other, and came to represent not only corporeal occurrences but also human temperaments.
Aristotle’s model: Spring: wet becoming hot Summer: hot becoming dry Autumn: dry becoming cold Winter: cold becoming wet
Humors | Elements | Temperaments, as informed by Aristotle’s model: Hot & dry: yellow bile (choler) | fire | choleric temperament Cold & dry: black bile (melancholy) | earth | melancholic temperament Hot & wet: blood (sanguis) | air | sanguine temperament Cold & wet: phlegm | water | phlegmatic temperament
This structure is the root of most medical associations in astrology. The body is understood through the lens of these qualities, and so are the planets and astrological signs; their correlations are a result of their congruent categorization, in addition to symbolism, mythology, chemistry, and general observation. A simple example of this would be blood – a literally warm and wet substance, ruled by a hot/wet (air) sign, Aquarius. Bones, on the other hand, are literally dry, solid, well-defined, and long-lasting – suited to the attitude of Saturn. The correspondences are much more complex than this, of course, but the basic idea is that there is an apparent alignment of physical reality with astrological energy. From there, astrologers developed a system of astro-physical rulerships.
*The sources I used for these rulerships drew from multiple separate practices ranging from traditional Vedic to medieval European, often presented through a contemporary perspective. I tried to narrow it down and stay consistent despite that, but some of the more specific associations are not broadly supported.
PHYSICAL RULERSHIPS:
ARIES: head, skull, cranium, brain, pineal gland, pituitary gland, face, eyes, nose, muscles, adrenal glands. TAURUS: ears, neck, throat, vocal cords, jaw, chin, mouth, lips, tonsils, tongue, thyroid gland, jugular nerve/vein, larynx, eustachian tubes. GEMINI: shoulders, arms, hands, fingers, nervous system, lungs, airways, bronchi, trachea, thymus gland. CANCER: chest, rib cage, breastbone, breasts, mammary glands, diaphragm, alimentary system, stomach, solar plexus, pancreas, ovaries, uterus. LEO: heart, spine (spinal cord, spinal column), upper back, circulation. VIRGO: hands, fingers, nails, nervous system, dorsal nerves, abdomen, pancreas, spleen, intestines, bowels, liver. LIBRA: equilibrium, bodily symmetry, lower back, loins, lumbar region, buttocks, kidneys, endocrine system, blood vessels, skin. SCORPIO: appendix, excretory system, urinary system, bladder, urethra, anus, colon, rectum, prostate, cervix, genitals. SAGITTARIUS: hips, thighs, sciatic nerve, liver, iliac arteries & veins. CAPRICORN: skeletal system, bones, teeth, knees, joints, structural & connective tissue, scar tissue, cartilage, skin, hair, gallbladder. AQUARIUS: calves, shins, ankles, joints, circulatory system, blood. PISCES: feet, toes, lymphatic system & lymph nodes, sweat glands, fat tissue.
SUN: vitality, heart, aorta, arteries & veins, blood, circulation, circulatory system, marrow, spine (spinal cord, spinal column), spinal fluid, cerebrovascular system, eyes, right eye of males, left eye of females. MOON: chest, chest cavity, rib cage & ribs, glandular tissue, mammary glands, breasts, breastbone, sweat glands, lymphatic glands, lymphatic system, lymph nodes, spleen, saliva & salivary glands, pineal gland, ovaries, uterus, pancreas, stomach, digestive system, nutrition, pregnancy & birth, infant & child growth, puberty, left eye of males, right eye of females. BOTH SUN & MOON rule the circadian rhythm; sun is associated with wakefulness & consciousness while the moon is associated with sleep. MERCURY: brain, nervous system, nerves, vagus nerve, shoulders, arms, hands, fingers, lungs, trachea, respiratory system, speech, senses, cognition. VENUS: ears, eustachian tubes, cheeks, chin, lips, gums, tongue, taste buds, neck, throat, esophagus, vocal cords, alimentary system, thyroid gland, thymus gland, kidneys, fat tissue, skin, pores, hair follicles, senses, female anatomy. MARS: sinuses, nose, gallbladder, bile, bile ducts, hair, nails, muscles, sinews, tendons, genitals, appendix, pelvis, male anatomy. JUPITER: right ear, cell growth, endocrine system, adrenal glands, pituitary gland, pineal gland, liver, pleura, sciatic nerve, legs, thighs, calves, feet, toes. SATURN: left ear, teeth, skin, structural & connective tissue, scar tissue, veins, bones, skull, skeleton, cartilage, joints, elbows, knees.
CARDINAL: short, intense, singular, and momentous illnesses. FIXED: chronic, persistent, prolonged, stable, and recurring illnesses. MUTABLE: volatile, inconsistent, rapid, and unpredictable illnesses.
Each sign & planet rules any illnesses related their respective physical rulerships (i.e. Aries governs brain abnormalities, the Moon governs stomach issues, Libra governs kidney complications, Saturn governs bone diseases, etc). The nature of an illness or injury often aligns with the energy of its astrological signification (i.e. Jupiter can denote mysterious diseases related to overgrowth & excess; Mars can denote intense, painful diseases related to high temperature & over-activity; the Moon can denote issues of fluid retention or over-sensitivity; Saturn can denote grave, burdensome long-term diseases related to contraction, blockages, or decline; Aries can denote fast-paced, acute illnesses; Taurus can denote illnesses related to over-indulgence, habit, or dependency; fire influence can denote inflammation and fevers; and so on).
The houses were not traditionally considered to rule bodily parts or processes, but were instead used to orient the condition of celestial influences on the body in a positive or negative sense, and to represent the circumstances surrounding an individual’s health. The houses also function as points of actualization, where celestial influences can be triggered to manifest. Generally, the first house & Ascendant represent an individual’s overall physique, vitality, stature, and the basic disposition of their health; the sixth, eighth, and twelfth houses are related to illness, disease, injury, and death; and the fifth & eleventh houses are related to remedies, healing, relief, and improvement.
In the birth chart, health is measured in terms of vitality, predisposition, and susceptibility. Transits may determine changes in these terms over time and throughout various dynamic circumstances. In conjunction with modern scientific medicine and the insight of genetics, medical astrology can be used in a nuanced, non-fatalistic way to guide lifestyles, inform treatments, and help predict potential illnesses – if practiced with immense care & clarity. All significations which point to possible illnesses should be exact, precise to the minute, specific, detailed, and supported multiple times in a chart.

Some house lessons that come to mind
1st house planets: need to learn unfiltered self-expression, to allow impulse reaction of the planet in question and formulate a solid sense of identity and independence, carving their own pathway through life
2nd house planets: need to learn their sense of worth, solidify their resource and value system, and allow the planet in question to indulge in what is personally pleasurable every once in awhile, but not excessively so that one does not lose sight of inner richness and humbleness
3rd house planets: need to learn to communicate effectively and constructively with others and to practice multiple thought trends to allow the planets in question to become more adaptable
4th house planets: need to find their center of home for inner peace, whether a person, place, pet, hobby, life purpose and so on, as well as being open to emotional development of the planet in question
5th house planets: need to learn to implement their will into what they create and to accept and give out love in its purest form, to let the inner child out to experience play and joys in life
6th house planets: need to learn how to grow up and always look forward to improving their skills and wellbeing, as well as straying away from thinking on an individual level through helping others, learn to pay attention to details in their lives
7th house planets: need to learn to accept themselves through what others bring out of them but to also accept differences in others. To practice good judgement of the planet in question
8th house planets: need to learn to rid themselves of self-blame and open themselves up to significant changes brought by other people or events in their life, as well as practicing letting go of what is not useful
9th house planets: need to learn to see the bigger picture and look at things from another lens, to allow the planets to ‘discover’ themselves through being ever questioning about that part of themselves
10th house planets: need to learn to face the world and find their place in it, take responsibility for shortcomings, and reach for their potentials without the restraint of insecurity. one must learn to reconcile with the past and parents as well as with their fear of failure that may have been imbedded by such figures
11th house planets: need to find their sense of belonging to solidify the identity all the while understanding this does not mean isolation or distance from the greater whole but finding themselves through experiencing group and social consciousness
12th house planets: need to dissolve boundaries in that compassion and empathy for others is dispersed, but to not lose sight of boundaries completely that one is overwhelmed with feelings of lostness and confusion. To utilize the planet in question to help oneself with self-discovery and meditation but to also extend it to others as service for the greater good

More Astrology Notes
I'm going through some annotations I've made in my books so I thought I'd share them here too! I'll put down one or two ideas I had too, I'll note that it's just a thesis then
+ Jupiter in 7th likes to spend leisure time with one person, prefers one-on-one interaction. Jupiter in 11th likes to spend leisure time with groups.
+ The problems of any opposition start with imbalance. To elaborate, oppositions require constant or at least periodic checking in. While it can be easier to deal with them as time goes on, and it very much is possible to figure out ways to effectively and rather quickly counter them acting up again, but you shouldn't strive to eradicate their issues as a whole as this is not how it works. This isn't a bad thing, it's very natural, but recognizing that oppositions will act up again when you or your life tumbles out of balance again is the best way to providently lessen the hit. The first step to dealing with oppositions is being aware of what issues and needs need to be reconciled.
+ Idea: Trines in a chart represent the parts of life that the native loves living. To elaborate, the ease of a trine is fun, it's exciting, and it isn't particularly growth triggering but it is naturally joyful. Hence the thought that trines point to parts of life that naturally reignate or reinforce the joy of living.
+ Inconjunctions/Quincunx are most damaging if there's a lack of selfawareness. Planets in a quincux can have a dramatic, anxious, and exaggerated reaction to themselves and are hectic because of the natural disharmony. The inconjunction doesn't inherently provide any of the redeeming qualities that harsh aspects do. Adjustment is needed, as well as keeping a cool head with the issues represented by an inconjunction.
+ Jupiter is where we are naturally granted authority and power, unless the planet is greatly inhibited by other factors Jupiter rarely encounters genuine obstacles. As it also represents moral principles checking it's position in the geniture (= birth chart) allows us to compare and collate how our worldview and principles align with societal norms and values.
+ Idea: An afflicted/injured Venus makes for a person who has trouble with the giving/taking dynamic, often especially the taking part. It's hard for them to be okay with being more on the receiver's end or being "spoiled" - even if, or rather even though they do desire it strongly, perhaps exactly because they struggle with it or the struggle stems from neglect in this area. This may exclude professional/business-related taking. In interpersonal, intimate relationships however it can be awkward for the native to accept (especially big/ger) gifts, acts of love that come purely from the love or goodness of the other party's heart. Depending on other factors they can either be overly giving themselves or turn out cynical towards the entire giving-taking dynamic. An active learning process would help unearth and regulate this.
+ Saturn, in a way, is the guardian of the veil. Separating the person and social planets from the transpersonal, collective, even spiritual planets, the last critic & stoic realist, the harshest reminder of earthly matters, responsibilities and the hourglass' falling sand. It stands between the material and mental world. From what I've gathered it's wildly important for people who try to introduce more spirituality as well as worldly themes into their lifes in a tangible way to have worked through their Saturn issues beforehand. Otherwise the struggles they've been ignoring and their being ungrounded and unrefined is going to lead to them being miserable and vulnerable due to a lack of foundation and detachment from internal restrictions.

May happenings 2020! ✨
We have had some hard transits the last couple months, but May does show a chance to breathe. May is all about communication as Gemini takes the limelight. 3 planets go retrograde. We are turning our focus from home to community and connection. With so many shifts try not to make external moves or choices because it could be confusing. This is more of a time to gather information and process and come up with new ideas.
May 5th: North Node moves into Gemini-communication and community and localized efforts become the karmic focus. Getting the truth.
May 7th: Full moon in Scorpio-spiritually transformative and healing full moon. Finally a full moon with some positive aspects! This moon will help us find some positive space allowing what needs to be truly let go of-go.
May 11th: Mercury moves into Gemini-communication takes center stage in dignified Gemini. Communication will improve and thought processes will be quick. Lots of new ideas and chatting.
May 11th: Saturn goes retrograde until September 29th-this is the time to take a break from Saturns tests to make sure you are on the right path.
May 13th: Mars moves into Pisces-action will be more focused on imagination and creativity. Anger will be more passive and compassionate. Music and art appreciation. Motivated by connection.
May 13th: Venus goes retrograde in Gemini until June 25th-time to re-evaluate relationships and finances. How do you communicate in relationships, how have you connected intellectually.
May 14th: Jupiter goes retrograde in Capricorn until September 12th-perceived luck turns inward, how can you build up your own internal expansion and beliefs.
May 20th: Sun moves into Gemini-overall energy turns towards connecting and communicating. Wanting to learn new things, opening the mind, being curious, focusing on details.
May 22nd: New moon in Gemini-new ideas around structure and authority. Support for new ideas. Be careful of illusionary too good to be true ideas. Stay grounded.
May 28th: Mercury moves into cancer-thoughts and communication become tinged with nostalgia and memories.

the “predictive” element of astrology is not really fortune telling or crystal ball prophecy
it basically just relates to the archetype (zodiac sign) and the observations we’ve made over history. there’s a pattern of behaviour in every archetype that may suggest how they will respond to future events. and too, these patterns are abstract, there’s always exceptions when people are involved, we could make a prediction based on your history, but change is constant, the future hasn’t decided how you will act, it hasn’t even decided if it’s coming yet
fatalism is real complacency-the future will promise many things based on your thoughts right now - astrology will help you create the future you are worthy of instead of promising false riches show the future what you want and everything you have learned in astrology and about yourself will help take you there - C

Rising Signs
Rising sign is the cusp of your first house. It sets the tone for the rest of your houses, as well as adds a gloss coating to the individual birth chart as a whole. In essence, Rising sign is the tip of the glacier for the whole person. It’s what the person may show as a default for meeting new people. It also may show what people assume about the native at first glance.
Aries Risings gives the air of Independence. They may have fast, quick movements. They may take risks and be the doers. The first in line, type of ambition. May get scars from reckless adventures. Give the vibe of being brave, and standing up for themselves. True to who they are as a person, and genuine in what they want for themselves. Mars rulership gives them the passion for them to go out and achieve their desires.
Taurus Risings tends to be grounding. Venus gifts them with a natural taste for beauty, fashion, or admiration of the arts in relation to body. Artistic with self in the world. May lean towards natural care or food products. May have an apparent appreciation for music or nature. Possible slow but mindful movements. Can be calming, and give off a “chill” vibe. Doey features, gaze and/or eyes that reflect the natural simplistic depth of the world.
Gemini Risings give off a bubbly vibe. They often have an awkwardly adorable charm. Can be considered ditzy. Can be talkative or a gossip, expressive with hands. May experiment with appearance, such as styles or hair color. May want to appear knowledgable, or just be social. Mercury expands on the need to communicate, especially verbally. Wispy and hard to pin down.
Cancer Risings appears to be almost disconnected. Cancer is very guarded, and can be withdrawn. Intuition is strong. Despite being gaurded, they tend to be emotionally driven, however their true intentions are known to few as they can be very private. The moon here gives them a moonlight glow in their presence, that’s subtle but noticable. Soft features, often leaning feminine in mannerisms.
Leo Risings are the epitome of displaying loud and proud. They tend to be as large as life and light up the room. The sun ruler here makes the person have a glowing-or glaring- presence. They may soak up attention and praise, even subconsciously demand it. They have an air about them that glows and attracts attention, and may appear to have confidence even if it’s not actually present.
Virgo Risings tends to be quiet and observant, paying attention to small details often overlooked by most people. They tend to be critical about their appearance and how the present themselves to the world, usually having a keen idea of how their presence affects other people. Can be shy and withdrawn when first meeting people. Mercury adds a sophistication with language, and a possible anxiety that develops from an overly critical preception of self in relation to the world.
Libra Rising give off a charming and socially sauve vibe. Venus aims to please, particularly Libra blends in any social setting, often refusing to cause any disruption. They tend to mirror what they think people want and aspire to be on friendly terms with everyone involved, regardless of personal feelings. Polite, values manners, and respects unspoken social rules.
Scorpio Risings tend to stand in the back ground and observe. Even the more outgoing ones are observant, constantly reading the vibe of the environment. They are aware of the social undercurrents and want to act strategically. Intense inner vibes that spill into their interactions, intensity is often reflected in gaze and/or eyes. Can be serious but is almost always suspicious of others motives. Pluto here is intense, and people either are drawn to them or repulsed.
Sagittarius Risings display such a carefree vibe, they’re like a breath of freedom. Unmatched in their ability to show off nonchalance in others opinions and be authentically themselves. Jupiter gives them the ability to befriend almost anybody, and without being aware of it they have a light cheery vibe that expands across the room
Capricorn Risings are very serious and almost standoffish. They are not the most social immediately as they carry a weight around them. Serious Outlook and dry humor. Saturn restricts them so they’re not as out going, can accidentally give negative first impressions without meaning to. May come off as a workaholic, or generally tired.
Aquarius Risings is also friendly but in a more detached way. Unconventional and quirky, uncaring if strangers think their wierd but can secretly be self conscious. Uranus gives them a restless energy in crowds and may have an odd mix of being social while being independent. Co-ruler Saturn also can give them a resting bitch face, similar to Capricorn.
Pisces Risings gives off a soft and dreamy vibe. They seem ethernel in this world and can give the feeling of being from a fantasy realm. Can give off the impression of being shy and withdrawn, and dealing with secret fantasies. Neptune gives a glamour effect, in which Pisces may act as a canvas for other people’s personal ambitions.
