This shot is so profoundly lonely. And not just because Eddie is on the run for his life, wanted for traumatic, ghastly murders he couldn’t have committed but had to witness anyway.

He has been internally reeling in isolation for days, with nothing to do but think as he hides. He is realizing there is so much more to the world around him than he ever knew. He’s the oldest in this group but the last to lose the innocence and bliss of not having to worry about all the horrors lurking below his town.

But in this particular moment, even as he learns more fully how much these kids are here for him, his world is the only one falling apart in every way imaginable. They’ve already been through all this before, together. He is going through this reality-altering paradigm shift alone and that is just heartbreaking.
