CHAPTER ONE, SECTION O3.
It has taken longer than it should for the cultivators who went on the Baijing demon extermination mission to return. You can tell the Lan sect leader was concerned from the way he stared into the direction where the group went after every lecture.
Today was a special day, for many sect/clan leaders were invited to Cloud Recesses for a progress review on their disciples, then for a meeting after.
The Nies were the first to arrive, followed by the Jins and Jiangs. The last to arrive, unsurprisingly, was the ruling lady of Wei. With pots of Emperor’s Smile tied to her sash, she stepped into the hall with a brilliant smile. She lifted her hand in greeting, only to stop mid-movement.
Noting her expression change, the major sect leaders quickly rose to their feet and stepped out of the hall with her, their disciples not far behind.
“See that?” Lady Wei pointed.
“No, what is it?” One of the younger disciples blurted, curiosity making them forget their place.
“The red light.” And so there was. Though quite a distance away, the eerie glow was visible against the darkening evening sky.
“The Baijing mountain.” The Lan sect leader’s eyes flashed.
As they spoke, the red glow scattered, lighting up the clouds with bright streaks of crimson before disappearing completely.
The disciples were instructed to go back inside and revise the lecture from earlier. Most of them didn’t understand what happened, and why all of the major sect leaders looked ill at ease. Did something happen at the Baijing mountain? Perhaps the demon extermination group encountered danger?
As people moved to return to the lecture hall, doing as they were told, some of them might have heard a few whispered words from Lady Wei.
“...only twenty years...here again...the end of the world.”
Write a 250+ word solo or a four-post thread based on what had happened in exchange for +5 merit points. Feel free to react to anything in this post. You can have your character greet their sect/clan leader parents (Ouyang is here, Chang is here & Huang is here). Maybe check out the weird red glow. You can have them worry about the group at Baijing or ponder over Lady Wei’s final sentence if your character heard her.

BAIJING MOUNTAIN SIDE EVENT PT. 5
The bird demon was defeated through a collective effort, its body disintegrating into nothing but a handful of dust. Before the group had the chance to celebrate, however, something bizarre occurred. The ground underneath their feet shook and ancient runes appeared, glowing an eerie blood red. The earth split open and dark aura poured forth from the cracks. Something beautiful emerged from the darkness, in the shape of the crescent moon. It was white in colour and smooth in texture, resembling the finest quality of jade.
Then, it cracked.
You are not sure what was the object which had forcefully collided into the ‘jade’ or who was its wielder. Either way, what was once whole shattered into pieces and were sent in different directions of the world. The red glow disappeared and so did the ancient runes. The Baijing mountain, however, was still unstable.
Soon, the earth was moving as if it was carried on an ocean wave. Animals that had been previously controlled by the demon and robbed of their senses regained their survival instinct just in time to seek escape. Unfortunately, as trees fell, many innocent creatures were crushed underneath.
[ SPIRIT GUARDIAN UNLOCKED ]
A young woman emerged from the dissipating fog with a sword in her hands. Demonstrating incredible strength, she lifted trees along her path, freeing those who were trapped. With the mountain quaking and the last of the demon’s fog still in the air, it was difficult for you to make out her features. What you were able to observe, however, was the soothing blue light emitting from her blade. She lifted her sword over the area where the strange jade had appeared and chanted in a language you could not understand.
She released her sword over the ominous crack in the earth but it not fall into the darkness. Instead, it remained in the air, its blue glow becoming intense and forming the shape of a phoenix. Those fiery wings were inches from your face, but you did not feel threatened by their heat. “Don’t be afraid, you heard a voice whisper in reassurance.
The mountain was still and the fog was gone. Where you’d seen the young woman earlier you now only see a sword, plunged deep into the healed earth with its name etched on the blade - Blue Phoenix. So the rumours were true about there being a spirit guardian on this mountain. Luckily, the group was able to find her. Otherwise, should the entire Baijing collapse, how many of you would live? What about the villagers residing near the foot of the mountain?
You have a strong feeling that a great disaster has been avoided because of the seeking group’s efforts.
Trait Effect:
*only applies if you have these traits before this event gets posted.
Sharp Reflexes: You may attempt to snatch one of the ‘jade’ pieces as it flies past
Photographic Memory: You may attempt to remember how many pieces there were
Write a 250+ word solo or a four-post thread reacting to everything that had happened in exchange for +5 merit points. If you have sharp reflexes or photographic memory, have your character attempt to grab one of the pieces or remember how many there were in total in their solo/thread. Do not mention if you’ve successfully obtained a shard or how many pieces there were in total. A randomizer will be used to determine who gets the piece and the information if there are multiple people interested. The main will follow up after the event deadline if your character was selected to obtain the shard/information.

BAIJING MOUNTAIN SIDE EVENT PT. 4
The senior Lan disciples called for a regroup with their guqin, signalling everyone to retreat from the mountain following the melody they played. They assessed the casualty and noted the demon was no easy target to neutralize. Everyone sat down and strategized, deciding in the end to divide the group into two.
The first group, led by one of the senior disciples, will be in charge of exterminating the demon. Based on the information gathered in the town, the group managed to figure out that the demon took on a bird form, was red in colour and capable of transforming its size during battle.
The second group, led by the other senior disciple, will be seeking out the spiritual guardian that was rumoured to be on this mountain. Based on the information gathered in the town, the group managed to figure out the spiritual guardian, possibly someone from the former Bai cultivation clan, took on the form of a blue pigeon and can be awakened by its name. Those who are injured are encouraged to stay with the second group.
Please REPLY to this post with which group your character will be going with, and whether or not your character is injured.
Group One: Entering Combat Mode
For Attackers:
Write a 250+ words solo using your character’s highest attack trait (superior swordsmanship, capable archer, gifted musician, sabre master, enhanced physical strength or talisman master) in exchange for dealing the same number of points in damage to the demon. Alternatively, you can do a thread with another character and deal an additional bonus damage on top of your combined total. Reward: +5 merit points.
The demon has 15 health points and everyone gets one turn to attack. By the end of this event, characters of group one must deal a combined total of 15 damage or more in order to win this combat. Otherwise, the battle will result in defeat and the consequence is fatality of the entire group.
For Non-Attackers:
Write a 250+ words solo about how your character is dodging from the demon’s attack. The demon bird has red feathers and long claws. Once it opens its beak, you can see that its mouth is full of sharp teeth. It may attack you with its claws or teeth, possibly while mimicking your loved one’s voice. Alternatively, you may write a thread with one of the Attackers (maybe distracting the demon for them) and allow them to do an additional assist bonus damage with their attack. Reward: +5 merit points.
Group Two: Guardian Seeking
The group, led by the senior Lan disciple, will eventually find a blue pigeon sleeping in a tree.
Write a 250+ words solo or a thread about how your character searched for the blue pigeon guardian and their attempt to wake it up. Please note, spirit guardians should be treated with respect, violence is usually not the way when it comes to them. There may be consequences if your character choose to wake it up unpleasantly. Reward: +5 merit points.
Injured Characters:
If your character was injured during the last part of this side event, they would have been told to join group two and to take it easy. You can complete the same requirement above as the rest of the group two members OR do the following:
Your character may choose to secretly follow group one against the Lan senior disciples’ recommendation.
Complete the group one’s 250+ words solo/thread requirement. However, due to your character’s injuries, any damage they deal will be halved and their health condition will become worse. You are now severely injured, which may have negative consequences in the next part of the event. However, you receive a bonus merit point for being a good bean and wanting to help out your fellow cultivators. Reward: +5 merit point, +1 bonus merit point
Deadline for this event is April 25th at 11:59pm PST and please tag your posts with xxsideevent:bm04 for tracking purposes.

BAIJING MOUNTAIN SIDE EVENT PT. 3
The closer you got to the mountain, the less threatening it seemed. Even the silvery mist that swallowed half of the mountain felt comforting, like a soft, serene blanket that had been draped over your shoulders. It wasn’t cold - while the areas just outside of the mountain felt like the winter, inside of the mist it felt like a warm, gentle spring.
The only thing was that it was quiet. Other than the soft rustling of leaves, you heard nothing - not even a single chirp from the birds - as you travelled deeper into the woods. The mist was becoming thicker, clinging to the fabric of your robes. Before you knew it, everything began fading away. The trees and bushes disappeared, followed by the companions you came on this mission with. You were left alone in a world cloaked by a dense white fog almost too bright for your eyes.
Then, you heard a voice call out. A loved one in distress, or perhaps in invitation. Either way, it was beckoning for you. You felt the urge to follow the voice, but what you did not know was the fact this whole thing was a trap. The demon occupying the Baijing mountain, who had lured so many innocent people to their deaths, was ready to use its tricks on you. Mimicking the voice of the person you value the most, it was trying to entice you down the cliff that was only a few meters away.
One wrong step and this would be the end of your story.
Now, what will you do?
The situation: You are surrounded by a thick fog and cannot see very well. Unless you were physically holding onto someone or they were walking within a meter of you, you lose the sight of all of your companions as well. You hear a loved one call out to you (can be whoever you want: parents, siblings, lovers or friends - dead or alive). They may be in need of help or maybe they just miss you and want to say hello. Whatever it is they are saying, they want you to move towards them. Of course, the voice doesn’t really belong to your loved one, just the demon trying to lure you down a cliff so it can indulge in a nice supper of your soul.
Trait Effect:
*only applies if you have these traits before this event gets posted.
Enhanced Spiritual Communication: If you have the Communication trait, your character will hear spirits (likely of the dead victims) warning them that this is a trick and it is not safe to go.
Demonic Energy Detection: If you have the Detection trait, your character will feel a strong demonic presence in the direction of their loved one’s voice.
Animal Speech (any): If you have the Speech trait, you will be able to realize something is wrong with this mountain. All of the creatures are terrified of this thing that is hiding among them. Unfortunately you won’t be able to get any more information because all of the animals are too scared out of their minds to communicate properly.
Write a 300+ words solo or a four-post thread with another character regarding how you dealt with the situation above. If your character is going to step off of the cliff and you don’t want them to die, please write about how they save themselves. A side note about the cliff - it is pretty narrow. You can attempt to fly on sword but the chance of you bumping into the cliff wall is very high. Also, the fog is thick and you can barely see. So imagine...trying to fly through an unfamiliar narrow space blind. Please inform one of the mods if you are intending to have a character death in this event or get seriously injured. Minor scrapes/bruises don’t need to be reported.
Reward: +5 merit points
Due date: April 11, 2020 at 11:59pm PST. Please tag your post with xxsideevent:bm03. Threads may be continued after the deadline, but points cannot be collected.

BAIJING MOUNTAIN SIDE EVENT PT. 2
Everyone finished collecting information and gathered together in the inn to discuss what they’ve learned.
Part one surprise reward: for each character who had managed to use one of their traits to collect information, stack it by +1. For example, if your character used their +1 superior swordsmanship, upgrade it to +2 superior swordsmanship.
Those who managed to complete their solo/thread will also receive a submit from the main sometimes tonight, providing them with one piece of information. Those who gathered information together may receive the same info.
TASK ONE: For +2 merit points, post the information you received from the main in our new plotting side blog: xiuxianlounge (please check your email for an invite) in your character’s own words. If your character is the forgetful type or somehow got too drunk to remember everything, feel free to omit information. If your character is the type to exaggerate, feel free to spice up the information you received with whatever nonsense you like.
TASK TWO: An additional +3 merit points may be earned by replying to other people’s information post. Each reply (must be ic) is worth +1 point for a maximum of +3. The reply must be at least one sentence in length - please try to make it interesting and helpful, and not just a string of emoticons or something like hahahaha.
For those who signed up for the Baijing Mountain side event but weren’t able to complete the task for part one, you may assume your character did not attempt to gather information OR was not able to find out anything. You may still reply to three information posts and gain the +3 merit points.
The deadline for this part of the side event is March 21st, 2020 at 11:59 PM PST.

BAIJING MOUNTAIN SIDE EVENT PT. 1
This is a side event for those who signed up for the Baijing mountain demon extermination. Your group, led by two senior Lan disciples, traveled towards the site of the supposed demon haunting. It is a day-long journey from Gusu to Baijing mountain. Night came, and to ensure they would have enough energy to take care of the potential demon, the group decided to take rest in a town along the way. The town, though small, was quite robust. According to one of the villagers, this town was deemed the centre point for most of the local villages and many came here to exchange goods and information.
The entire group will be staying at the same inn and all expenses associated with the lodging and meals (no alcohol included) for the night will be paid for by the Lan sect. You are encouraged by the senior disciples to go gather information, see if you can learn anything about the Baijing mountain and this mysterious mist that appeared around it.
Write a 250+ words solo or a four-post thread about your character’s information gathering process using ONE of their traits. The information your character will discover will be messaged to you privately. Whether or not you choose to share this information is up to you. Keep in mind that you won’t know what your character discovered until you've written your solo or thread, so please end your writing appropriately. For example, if you have your character pay a vendor for what they know using their WEALTH, have the vendor agree but stop the solo/thread there.
Alternatively, if your character chose against gathering information and instead, went out to enjoy the town’s many entertainments (including live music, magic tricks, and ahem, a brothel with very average-looking lady workers), write a 200+ words solo or a four-post thread regarding what they did for the night. Upon completion, +5 merit points.
Due date: Mar 8th, 2020 @ 11:59 PM PST. Please tag all related solos/threads xx:baijingmountain01.

OPEN EVENT 001.
It is time to explore your character!
One of the goals of this roleplay is to tie every character to the main plot and give everyone their own story arc. In order to do that, we have to find out more about each character. Please give some thought to the following questions and fill them out. The length of each response does not matter, but the more details you provide, the better your character's story arc would be.
What is your character's greatest weakness?
What is your character tempted by? For example, wealth, approval, power etc.
Is your character willing to die for someone/something? If so, who/what is it?
What is one struggle you would like your character to overcome during the course of this rp?
Do you want your character to have a happy ending?
Anything else you would like for us to know about your character and how you want them to develop?
There is no deadline for this event so feel free to take all the time you want for it. We really encourage you to think hard about these questions and also consider the consequences before committing to certain ideas. For example, if your character wants to kill a sect leader, we can make it happen for them but there will be serious repercussions e.g., your character will likely be hunted down and hated by the sect disciples. Your character’s family and friends may also get dragged into the mess. Your character may have to die for their crime.
Please submit the completed questionnaire to xiuxianguide & accept +5 merit points as reward for your hard work.

CHAPTER ONE, SECTION O2.
A few weeks into the lectures, something unexpected occurred. A group of villagers came begging for Lan sect’s assistance in the elimination of a demon. At least, they thought it might be a demon.
The village they lived in was situated at the bottom of a mountain named Baijing. The Baijing mountain was loved by nature and supported the livelihood of the villagers for centuries. Lately, however, a strange mist had begun to gather around the mountain. The village hunters and foragers would enter and never return. Any search and rescue attempts only ended with more lives lost. Finally at the end of their ropes, the village leaders decided to turn to the Lan sect for help.
The Lan sect leader had agreed to take on the mission and planned to send two senior Lan disciples for the task. However, he also decided that if any of those attending the lectures are interested, they are free to tag along for the journey. Call it a practical class.
If your character is interested in going to Baijing mountain, please reply to this post to sign up. Participation in this event is not mandatory.
Due date for Baijing mountain sign up: Feb 1st, 2020 @ 11:59PM PST.
BONUS EVENT.
For everyone who replied to the chapter one, section 01 event post prior to today, Jan 26th, +1 merit point.
There was a test on the first day of lecture involving the Lan sect Regulations and if you reviewed properly and entirely, you passed without any issues. Well, unless you are forgetful or incapable of reading, in which case you failed even though you tried to review.
Those who passed the Regulations test were given bowls of red bean soup as a reward snack. You can tell this is supposed to be a reward because there’s actually sugar in the soup. They were also given the rest of the afternoon off. Those who did not pass the Regulations test were sentenced to recite the regulations over and over again in the lecture hall for the rest of the afternoon. If you are a Lan sect disciple and you somehow failed too, then you are punished much harsher and have to transcribe the full 5000 Regulations three times. Double if you are an inner disciple.
Write a 200+ words solo or a four-post thread about the Regulations test and how your character fared and/or whether they were rewarded or punished. Threads may be continued after the deadline, but points cannot be collected. Tag your post xx:bonusevent01 for tracking purposes.
Reward: +4 merit points.
Due date for Bonus Event solo / thread: Feb 8th, 2020 @ 11:59PM PST.

CHAPTER ONE, SECTION O1.
For the first time in twenty years, the Lan sect decides to open its doors to disciples of other sects/clans. Since it has been over two decades, there are more invitations sent out this time (yes, even to the infamous Wei sect) and without age restrictions.
Disciples who are interested in attending the year-long lecture are instructed to arrive one day prior to the beginning of lectures. Along with the invitation, disciples are given a set of Lan sect associate uniform (which is just a white robe with cloud patterns) and a copy of the Lan sect regulations. Please reply 'yes' to this post with if your character actually reviewed the Lan sect regulations and 'no' if they did not.
Lan sect disciples: write a 200+ words solo or a thread (four-posts minimum) regarding how your character feels about/interacts with another sect/clan disciple.
Disciples of all other sects/clans: write a 200+ words solo or a thread (four-posts minimum) regarding your character's journey or arrival to the Lan sect.
You have until Saturday, January 25th, 2020 to complete the task above in exchange for 5 merit points for each thread/solo completed. The maximum claimable merit points for this event is 10, which means you can do one thread + one solo and claim 10 points or do two threads/two solos. Feel free to write more after that but no extra points will be awarded beyond the 10.
Please keep track of your character’s merit points and traits - no need to submit anything to the main.
