Remake

Hey guys! So this is just a quick post to let you know that I'll be remaking Yuj's blog soon and will be turning this one into an archive. Feel free to unfollow this blog in the meantime! Right. Okay. Opinion time, I guess.

I am seriously annoyed by the update, but as I blog from my phone on my personal blog most of the time, it’s not as big of an issue for me as it is for some.

However, this is a quick reminder that XKit Guy is not “required” to do anything. He is not obligated to cater for every update that Tumblr throws at us, he is not obligated to put an add-on before his personal life, and he is not obligated to drop everything at a moment’s notice to come up with an extension. A heck of a lot of people are super supportive of him, and I honestly don’t believe he’d continue to work on XKit extensions if he didn’t want to, so I can’t claim to speak for him — but after he expressed his stress over having to fix the XKit problems a couple of weeks ago, and for this to happen so soon after, he’ll have a LOT of pressure placed on his shoulders in order to please Tumblr users. Catering to such a huge group of people is extremely difficult, and I’ve seen a few users already posting about how he needs to ‘hurry up’, etc. We do not come before his needs, his family/friends, his personal life — we have no right to put so much pressure onto him when he is doing things like this FOR US, and then have the gall to rush him about it.

On another note, placing my personal opinion on the update aside, keep in mind that Tumblr staff are human too, and most likely won’t be the happiest of people if they have thousands upon thousands of Tumblr users hurling abuse at them for updating the layout of their website.

However, I can’t see the necessity of this update. There are much more important things for staff to work on; such as the fact that the login screen and the error screens on the PC contain flashing images and gifs, as did the photo in the Tumblr staff’s post about the update (on a blog which every user automatically follows upon joining the site), which caused one person — that I know of, though possibly more — to have a serious seizure.

tl;dr — XKit guy is not a machine to comply to our every demand, Tumblr staff make some bad decisions now and then but ultimately work hard on these updates, and the site has some seriously user-unfriendly and possibly seizure-inducing features that require more attention than the layout of the dashboard does.
