❛ is that a ‘no’ in your lingo? ❜
@shadowsofstlouis
"No is no in my lingo, princesa. We'll see means I'll talk to your mother." It wasn’t their week with Anita. Edward spent every other week at The Circus of the Damned and the rest at his ranch outside the city. Both were essentially fortresses designed for her protection, and Michelle was free to move between them as she pleased unless one of them was on a job. He’d always been a solitary creature though, and even that much togetherness could wear on him, with the exception of his daughter, who didn't register as "company" the way most other people did.
They'd never pretended she wasn't a surprise or that they ever intended to stay together for so long. He’d doubted their ability to make it work in the beginning, but he thought they'd done better than expected, all things considered. An open relationship suited both of them just fine. Edward had never particularly believed in monogamy or marriage, nor was that even an option for Anita now that she carried so many of Jean Claude's hungers, but he did love her, perhaps more than he’d ever loved anyone besides his daughter.
It wasn’t his style to sideline Michelle from a job. He'd raised her to be a warrior, though he cared very little whether she followed in his footsteps or forged her own path. He simply wanted her to be able to protect herself. In an ideal world, he and Anita would always be there to keep her safe. In a practical one, they'd both made a lot of enemies in their lines of work. He’d made sure she'd grown up knowing how to handle every weapon in the house, taking sparring lessons and survival training, and when her necromancy flared to life, he'd personally taken her to Antia's abuela for magical training.
Those cool blue eyes lifted from the gun he was meticulously cleaning to settle on her, an appraising look to them. He didn’t have to put on his Ted persona in the privacy of their home. He never had for Michelle. He didn’t have to pretend he was anything other than exactly what he was. "I think you're ready. But if your mother doesn't agree, we'll discuss other options. Either way, we'll get you into the field." He didn’t care if Anita agreed with that. If she couldn't operate in the field, then all her training was useless. She needed to be able to react to real threats and still keep her head.

What's with fictional characters with specifically the name Edward being absolute bastards? Not necessarily bastard in the evil way, though many definitely are, but in the feral goblin way. Edward is the type of character to get up in the morning, piss someone off on purpose for shits and gigs, grab a sandwich, and then pick a fight with God.

♞ main ♞ bio ♞ face ♞ muse ♞ wishlist ♞
about:
This is a sideblog, and I follow back from my main @grimmusings. Please direct IMs there, since it's easier for me to keep all my messages on one blog. It's also easier to start interactions with me there, where I regularly post open starters and meme prompts. For a full list of rules, see my main. Honesty hour questions will largely be answered IC and treated as anonymous unless signed by a muse.
Edward is part of the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter universe, whose comics are published by Marvel (Earth-97534), and so could include crossover there as well. There are some spoilers ahead for that series. Edward had an early career in military black ops, became a hitman, and then moved on to hunting monsters because humans were too easy. He lives for the challenge of testing his skills against the biggest and baddest things out there. In his universe, supernatural creatures are publicly known with varying degrees of acceptance. Want to request a hit? He doesn't even open his door for less than a million dollars. He's known as The Undertaker in military circles and Death among the underworld, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
His legal alter ego is Ted Forrester, a former vampire slayer who was grandfathered into the U.S. Marshal program when vampires became legal in the good 'ol U.S. of A., and there weren't enough experts around to solve preternatural crimes. He's a varmint hunter (all legal, of course) based in Santa Fe who occasionally helps out on a supernatural case where bodies on the ground mean the monster in question can be executed without trial. While he's not a true sociopath, he doesn't feel remorse for the people he kills, and his decisions typically aren't ruled by his emotions. He won't hesitate to kill or torture a friend who gets in his way.
If you're uncomfortable with any of those themes, that's perfectly fine, but this isn't the muse for you. Please note that I do not acknowledge his connection with Donna and her family beyond the superficial means to an end, which he ended before it became serious.
default verses:
canon (+/-): Any events that take place within the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter universe, with canon divergence after Edward becomes close to Donna and her family.
horror!verse: Any crossovers with other horror/paranormal fandoms, where all kinds of supernatural creatures co-exist. Edward may be working as a hitman, a bounty hunter, or a Federal Marshal solving preternatural crimes.
marvel: Earth-97534 has always co-existed alongside other Marvel comics universes, where superheroes are commonplace. This may be before or after vampires become legal in America.

Alexander Skarsgård as Edward / Ted Forrester
“He was not an imposing man, not frightening, if you didn’t know him. But if I was The Executioner, he was Death itself.”
