tbh the #1 thing that has helped me write consistently is reframing things from 'showing up to do the work' to 'finding time to do a hobby i enjoy' because that's literally what it is.

for whatever reason a lot of writing culture is centred around the idea that writing is torturous and difficult and everyone despises doing it but is compelled to do it anyway and that's a) nonsensical and b) a self-fulfilling prophecy. most people write because they like writing -- there are aspects of it that are exhausting and stressful but the hyperfocus we place on them kills the joy of the rest. also there's this weird tendency to see the completely normal and mundane desire to write as some sort of divine compulsion external to the writer, which is a problem because it leads to people fighting against it. idk. reminding yourself you like writing isn't magically going to make it easy, but it does help. telling yourself over and over again that you hate writing will hurt.

Updates about the TikTok ban/relight … a lot of people thought that TikTokers were being dramatic. We were forced to say “unalive” “pew-pew” and “grape”… now it’s a community violation to say that Meta sucks.

Hey if anyone tries to tell you Musk did the “Roman Salute” and not the the Goddamn Nazi salute, remind them of the actual history of the salute. It was started in the US in the 1890s-ish and used in our hyper nationalist pledge. Everyday, children stood up in classrooms and did the salute to the U.S. flag. Then, Mussolini really liked the hyper nationalism and decided to borrow it, calling it the Roman Salute in order to make it Italian and also so it sounds like it has always existed, just like facism in his mind. Then, Adolf Fucking Hitler used it and that became the Nazi salute. The Roman salute isn’t Roman, it was made in the 1890s, so it’s just a facist salute. Also, don’t let anyone do the “oh well Musk’s autistic” argument, because let’s be so for real, most of us here are autistic and wouldn’t happily do a Nazi salute randomly. He knew what he was doing, and any attempt to downplay it is either purposely ignorant or infantilizing autistic people.
