Artist, and occasional fic writer. Massive Nevermoor hyperfixator, desperately waiting for Silverborn. I have an entire Ezra Squall Redeption Arc written in my mind, and I will write it if it doesn't happen in cannon because I am unhinged. I will ramble about it forever if given the opportunity. Hopeing to get some inspiration from the community for some fanart because I love this series so much!

That feeling when a series you love turns out to be extremely niche to the point where the entire fandom footprint on the internet is one deviantart drawing and a garbage AI talkbot

one of the most underrated parts of the first nevermoor book is when elder quinn is shouting at jupiter for not giving her a heads-up about the wundersmith thing and he's actually cowed by her despite her being five feet tall and an old woman...and morrigan who's RATHER JUSTIFIABLY pissed at jupiter at this point is watching all this like "good. get his ass."

AU idea: Ezra is visiting Nevermoor on the Gossamer, but something goes wrong and, while his body is safe back in the Republic, his consciousness is "stuck" in the Free State, basically putting his consciousness on house arrest at the Deucalion. Everybody hates this.

concept: a few workers at squall industries have started to put together that if no one, including them, has ever seen their boss, something might be wrong. the one person who claims to have ever had facetime with their boss, mr. jones, is very cagey whenever he's asked questions about him outside of a strictly work-related context.
the workers who have started to dig into this correctly suspect there's a conspiracy afoot, and that mr. jones is in on it somehow.
they incorrectly suspect ezra squall has been dead for years and there's even odds mr. jones killed him.

Messy drawing of Morrigan. Something something, didn't wanna do line-art, something something.
[ID: A digital drawing of Morrigan Crow. She's holding wunder in both hands and looking down at it, amazed. The background is dark and the wunder is illuminating the image. End ID]

just finished rereading the first nevermoor book and was struck by how, with the trials, it seems like anything that doesn't violate the precise letter of the rules as given is allowed, including stuff that is basically cheating by anyone's standards. like cadence literally showing a tape of herself getting some poor kid chucked out of the trials by mesmerizing an official into thinking they were cheating when they weren't - technically the rules never said she couldn't get someone else kicked out based on a lie, so it's allowed. same with baz telling noelle where a golden target is before the chase trial. so far as we know, there's nothing saying patrons can't do that. and all that fits with wunsoc's whole deal as we learn more about it in books 2 and 3 - wunsoc the institution does not give a shit about fairness or honesty, as long as the job gets done.
which makes me wonder - did jupiter not pull anything shady to help morrigan through the trials because he's too honorable, or, since he'd never had a candidate before, did he not realize that cheating is basically allowed? when he went through his trials, his witness powers likely gave him an edge, depending on what the trials were. it's possible his patron never gave him an unfair advantage because they didn't need to. (of course, it's also possible that, due to him having smuggled morrigan in illegally, he may not have wanted to take his chances - like maybe there are certain rules that are literally never enforced, but always technically could be, and he didn't want to give baz any ammo against him and morrigan that could risk getting her disqualified.)

I love it learning that younger Morrigan did stuff like this. She's so silly and rightfully spiteful.

I love that Jupiter and Squall both have a, "I see you, Morrigan Crow." line but they're so vastly different to each other.
Both are arguably huge for Morrigan's relationship with Jupiter and Squall respectively in different ways. Jupiter's line leads into the conversation where Morrigan is assured she's not a curse; Jupiter is genuinely angry at the idea that Morrigan thinks of herself as a curse, the idea that this child he already cares for so much has been so cruelly treated by those around her.
It's the first time that someone has so vehemently stood up for Morrigan like this. And while young Morrigan isn't shown to be incapable of trying to stand up for herself, I think Jupiter's staunch belief in her leads up to this moment.
When Jupiter says that he sees Morrigan, he means it. He sees the part of Morrigan she can't see; the part that's brave, clever, and resilient. When Squall says he sees Morrigan, he sees the parts of her that are similar to him.
