It's 1am and I'm restless and can't sleep so figured I'd drop you a line after seeing your reblog inviting random asks
If you could pick one scene from canon that you think best defines Wincest, which one would you pick and why?
yay messages!!!! I am exhausted and I think I just typed myself in circles so forgive me but here goes.

This might be somewhat colored by my dash all day today but in this moment, it's the fireworks scene from Dark Side of the Moon. That scene kills me every single time I see it because it's such a perfect encapsulation of them. Dean's happiness is Sam. You see it so many times in the series but there's something really special about the way Dean looks at Sam in that memory. His face when Sam hugs him literally makes me tear up every time because I don't know if Dean forgot about the hug or what, but he's so surprised when Sam lunges at him and he's seemingly so hesitant about hugging him back, and I always wondered if it was because this particular version of Sam is almost too precious to him. There are moments when Dean is smiling but then he looks at Sam and sees how happy he is and his smile gets so much bigger. You see it in the moment when kid!Sam is cheering and Dean is watching him with this look of just utter love and affection. I can't find a gif of it right now sadly.

For Sam it's special because in that moment, Dean is the reason Sam gets to be a kid. Sam's whole life is marred by darkness and feeling wrong and alone and like a freak. He's constantly having choices stripped from him and his own wants and needs discarded because of John's crusade (or Dean needing him to be Sammy,) but here we get to see Dean bring him pure joy. Sam gets to do something he wants to do, and Dean is the one who makes it happen. Sam specifically says that Dad would never allow it, but Dean would do anything for Sam, and he has such appreciation for Dean there. I think it's just kind of all the fluffy lovey dovey things I adore about them. Their lives were full of monsters and isolation and I love when we see them be joyful.
ALSO LOOK AT THEIR FACES!

Part of me will forever believe that to be the first time they kissed because it's such a beautiful moment for them.

This picture of Dean and soulless Sam truly is the gift that keeps on giving. It never fails to crack me up whenever I see it used unknowingly for other romantic ships and moodboards.

dean steps back out onto the sidewalk, looking both ways, preparing to cross the street back over to the impala. stops. breathes.
sam is sitting on the hood, relaxed, pen in mouth as he reads. he’s wearing one of dean’s jackets, the last of the clean ones, using the streetlamp for light, always resourceful.
the car is both shadow and light, gleaming darkness. sam nibbles a bit, brows coming together in thought and then he pens something down.
all mine, dean vows, world emptying around him, this is all mine.

what kind of characterization were people expecting for the bad boys episode?
hi anon, i can't answer for others but this is my understanding. basically, there were a few posts floating around claiming young!dean's characterization was off in contrast to his other appearances on the show.
you see, 'bad boys' young!dean was softer, kinder, and more innocent than other depictions of him like in 'after school special' and 'something wicked' (insanely enough, yes, this is mentioned in one of the posts) and that made people reject the characterization, most claiming the writers just didn't have the balls to write dean how he really is (rather, how they see him).
it's nonsensical to me because we do see dean at the start of the episode being violent, sarcastic, and closed-off (to mask his fear, of course) but as days go by and he is given a safe space without any of john's expectations, exploitation or abuse, dean thrives, gets good grades, does wrestling, makes friends, finds love, etc,, and certain people do not want that to be true. they need dean to be selfish, they need dean to be nothing without his family, they need him to be desensitized and violent and "mature for his age" (but only in the way where he's a sexual predator, not the maturity he displays at the end of the episode when he makes a very selfless choice so he can stay by sam's side)-- they need the version of him which sam's memories depicts in previous episodes to be the more 'correct' one, instead of the humanizing, softer version we got from dean's own pov.
my main issue is not the opinion of liking or not liking 'bad boys', it's with how people spoke about it which ties-in with the fandom's repeated dehumanization of dean, the denial of him being subjected to abuse, and their need for him to fit a mold so he can be their designated abuser. i think it's heartless, i think it's stupid, i think a bunch of people are not-so-subtly promoting for the idea that abuse victims (especially boys) can only look like one thing, and i hate it.
i don't think 'bad boys' young!dean is a bad take on him, even if you do think dean's been abused (physically, emotionally, and/or even sexually) by that point--as do i-- i think abuse victims can retain part of their innocence when placed in a safe environment.
