A market of old Shanghainese relics. Places such as this are disappearing due to the rapid urbanization of the city. According to our tour guide, within a few years, perhaps a decade, this place as well as the surrounding neighborhoods will be replaced by high-rises. “Enjoy it while it lasts.”

An open market pet shop. The location was inside a single building with a dozens of different merchants, only separated by makeshift walls. The way to tell where one stall ends and another begins is by the type of pets being sold.

Setting up shop. Finally arrived in Shanghai after three flight cancellations, and a mid-flight delay during my fourth one. This past week hasn’t been as adventurous as I would have liked, but I guess just trying to get adjusted to using Chinese 24/7 is taxing in itself.
