LACMA + Field Trip 2
Someone who caught my attention, was the work of Robert Rauschenberg. He was one of the founding fathers known into the pop art culture, known to many for his works of collages and combinations of many works into creating a piece, this artist in particular Robert Rauschenberg. His main focus on art works are revolving mainly around screen printing and collaging and experimenting to see the end results. The work that popped more out to me and caught my attention was this one pictured above named the ‘Rodeo Palace’. An early work presented by the artist in a series of an art collection called “spread”. it comes from the artists work to describe the wide expanse of the land in large scales. This piece conveys a range in where i caught interest in selecting this piece was from the way this work is presented with the usage of collages, photography and printmaking and other range of materials this all combines into one mesh that forms it includes these materials :Solvent transfer, pencil, and ink on fabric and cardboard, with wood doors, fabric, metal, rope, and pillow, mounted on foam core and redwood. What appealed more for me was how this all came together. It came together in a form that creates a more life like effect and more life like compared to more 2D forms.

Drawing + Differences
While most architects are believed to be the ones who just design the buildings and signs them off are wrong, they do much more work behind the curtain that is more into the details and aspect of that. Architects are the people who produce the drawings, give the directions and help part take the buildings into what we see today. They create a bigger picture in what there is to see in drawings and create this language that helps those connect with what they want to show for the public and everyone through concepts, pictures, sketches etc. The simple aspect of drawings comes with details that paints this picture that Amy Kulper presents in her debate and shows how the design is much more than what precises in the eyes of those who want to see. As she once mentioned, in order for things to be mapped we must identify the unexplored territory. With that saying, we must recognize how drawings to pictures can help build an understanding and connection to how we see with materials, touch and the grasp of the reality of what it has to tell us.

Nature + Art together
David Pye began with this saying “Design is everywhere, the word is everywhere. But there has been no corresponding interests in workmanship”. Let that sink in, there are more designers but no more interest in the physical aspects of workmanship. By stating this within the last 20 years, he goes on to talk about the designers owe and should give the credit to the people who have been working in the workmanship, due to the people that work behind this are the only reasons why if it was not for them there would not be any design that comes to life. Workmen are the source of where things happen and as we call it “the magic”. it comes from the materials that we use and the hands that are crafted with it to show the importance of how the materials can be crafted by a person. Pye sees past all this, our world is not in a good shape or form to continue on in a good environment instead is rotting away due to the lack. Pye continues to examine the lack of materials to the usage of supplies that is left and questions the outcomes of it from doing all this the risk it is taking place for not doing workmanship anymore and just on design. By working by hand, where is the usage of the practice in creating and forming rather than using a software or something else do the work for us?

Bonaventure +Field trip 1
Architect John C Portman Jr, introduced the building to the Angelinos that started uproar that now is something that caused a blur in a positive way. It was introduced as the Westin Bonaventure it’s been a well known space that has been introduced in many films and documentaries such as the one that is explained by Fredric Jameson. The first impression looking at this form of space is that it looks more like a futuristic space that forms of such from space. The building is pertained that way to look something different from the others and stand out from everything, it was noted that its not a space that is meant to fit in the modernistic architecture style and more been that sore thumb to stand out. The bonaventure creates its own style and form of language that is something unrelatable which is something that makes it stand out as it is and makes it more appealing for many. Its creates this form of aspect thats pleasing to the eyes, as well as a catch of interest in between. In forms that through the entrance to exterior facade all showing evident.

Tadao Ando + Students
Ando’s Conversation with Students focused on one word which is ‘Individuality’. Starting off with his experiences in the lecture series focuses on Tadao a self taught practitioner, showing developments from his early works and interest in the traditional crafts of building going back to his roots of Japan. From the past to present he touches base and explain in theory of how to maintain professionalism as well of efficient techniques of changing the world in a organic way of viewing the world differently. Starting off with the basics he goes back to the stomping grounds showing techniques that he underwent such as building codes and resolving economic issues that revolve around us today.Throughout his experiences, he spoke about the struggles he face and inspirations that helped him get out from it. From collages through artists were one of the many influences that helped him gain inspiration that now showcases his works today. He advice’s the students on how it matters to listen to yourself as well create your own speculations. Due to his heritage and where he comes from became a barrier at first, then Ando went on to embrace his own opinions and to embrace the others, if you don’t you will end up lost in the game. From all this he inspires me to pertain myself into always keeping a open mind for everything, through the good and bad.

Peter Zumthor +Thinking Architecture
In this reading of Peter Zumthor, he starts out with a simple saying of “when i think of architecture, images come to mind”. It gives out one of the many translations of how one seeks and sees the architecture. Many see it as a translation of art, an image that breaks out 100 words into the beauty of a building behind a black and white image, or an article in the form of almost anything. When thinking of the one word “architecture”it doesn’t even have to be about a building, the beauty of architecture is objects, or forms of something to the touch of a wall. In this reading, he also mentions the use of art and sculpting. Relating from the basic form of sketching to creating it into a real piece, showing how anything relate able from art to any form could end up relating the same word that is Architecture. It could be from something so little like a metal object to a plain box, that allows us to relate in our own way how this could impact our morals and views on how we see and relate with the word of Architecture. For me, i relate Architecture with my childhood like the author relates the word with his childhood with a metal object, for me i remember the construction site where my dad would work from start to finish.

4 Ecologies+ Architecture
The article went in depth about a british architectural critic, Reyner Banham and spoke about his perspective on Los Angeles. Not being a native here from the angelinos and coming from the UK. The article pertains on how many other writers have critiqued and wrote about the different perspectives that they see with LA. Comparing notes with Banham, who declared his love for Los Angeles but not at first, describing the elements of Los Angeles as a “scrambled egg” broken up into pieces, thats how the four Ecologies; Foothills, Surftopia,Fantastic, Plains of Id, and Autotopia. Breaking these four things down he described not only what he saw in the present but saw past beyond that, he saw a future that would elaborate the future urban-ism of influences that Los Angeles would part take now in the 21st century. It was the type of critics that present critics would compare with his incompetence of negative view’s of Los Angeles that no one is able to do and impact like Banham. At first Banham did not see eye to eye with the “love” of being in the angelinos. Instead he was quite against the beauty of Los Angeles. It was until he saw the beauty of Los Angeles by exploring around the City of angelinos.
