Playing a business game is always a challenge. Playing a successful business game is definitely an effective strategy, and this strategy starts in your head.
What is Happening?
Our attitude is everything, our vision is even more. It is vitally important to learn self-comprehension and conscious responses to the interactions with the outer world. While quite a lot really depends on circumstances, terms, and other people, winning is usually about confidence and awareness of how the game goes. This does not mean that winning is the only result a businessman is to accept, but this is the only target a businessman heads for and works for.
Successful people know that it is the prior experience that led them to the current place of fame and wealth. What is more, successful people also know that one loss is just a step back and time to learn a lesson, not a final and complete failure.
Two Basic Rules of Winning
It is crucial to understand two basic rules:
- fear is not to be resisted, but accepted and dealt with;
- losses are not to be denied, but acknowledged and learned from.
First and foremost, fear is not what you think it is. The major threat of fear is that a person remains passive and literally does nothing (yes, it is only in fairy tales that fear makes a person either run incredibly quickly or fight incredibly fiercely: and we live not in a fairy tale!).
What can be worth for business than lack of any kind of activity? Lack of activity is the first step to destruction. Having understood this, it is logical to acknowledge that facing the fear is not an instant defeat, but a step towards constructive fight: when you face it, you can understand its nature, and when you understand it, you know better how to deal with it.
Losses constitute another miscellaneous concept when it comes to a business game. Losing is not a failure, but a step where you did something wrong. As Kiyosaki once said: “Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn.”
For instance, you failed a negotiation – analysis of own persuasive strategy and the one of the opponent is a proper response. It may also be recommended to review the offer made to another party and evaluate it fairly from the perspective of the other side. Your task here is to detect the actual wrongdoing and understand its causes so as to prevent such missteps in the future. You can also develop an alternative for the next time. Bangambiki Habyarimana concluded all this wisdom in the following sentence: “An entrepreneur is a man who knows he can fail, but he does not accept to fail before he actually fails, and when he fails he learns from his errors and moves on.”
Past is not You – It is Your Ex-Wife
Please, divorce your past. Right now – and for good.
Yes, you may have been a real disaster years ago – after all, we’ve all been there in the beginning. Our self-perception is a rather powerful thing. All negative associations with yourself, your previous career development (or underdevelopment) are to be let go if you are determined to break that pattern and really succeed in the future.
Perceive your negative past as an ex-wife. Memories are not your actual reality – there is no need to live in them and by them.
It is the Complete Picture that Matters
Remember that you have also other spheres of life – do not victimize them for the sake of your business. It is a common case to observe in the successful business environment: a profitable and prospective company with a CEO that has all the other spheres of life destroyed for the sake of the given accomplishment: destroyed family or relationship, no friends and alienated family, health problems, both physical and psychological.
We recommend picturing this every time whenever you choose your career over your beloved one or your health. Keep your life balanced – this is where true success is.
The Diversity of Winning is the Beauty of Winning
Abhishek Ratna claimed that “You can win in multiple ways – A manager should never restrict himself when it comes to exploring possibilities.” Winning is indeed diverse – and sometimes not hitting a major target means to really win.
For instance, corporate profitability that was achieved due to compromise with quality, environment, or other similar elements of the global system is not a win indeed. You can be recognized and even remembered due to your wins, so it is not good to make yourself a history of questionable achievements and “dirty” reputation. Furthermore, it also means that if the one way of winning does not work, you can always look for another one. Or invent your own – history has numerous examples of success with such tactics.
Be Focused and Conscious – that is the Secret!
Being focused on your core targets and remaining conscious all the time concerning both losses and achievements is a simple, yet a quite effective formula of business success.
Business is a game, so design your strategy, open your mind, face your fear and learn from your losses.
Good luck!
