Completed Fic - Yu-Gi-Oh! The Rewrite Vol 1: Awakening
Story Title: Yu-Gi-Oh! The Rewrite Vol 1: Awakening Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (Anime and Manga) Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/42005976/chapters/105459891
Summary: Yuugi Mutou is a quiet boy. He’s also the school punching bag. So when he finishes the Millennium Puzzle just before the end of Grade 6, he finds his upcoming life in Junior High to be just a bit more haunted than he bargained for. A canon-rewrite/AU where Yuugi finishes the Puzzle early. Takes place before Season 0/the original manga. Written with and beta’d by my friend, unicornholly! Warnings: Light angst, bullying, implied/referenced child abuse, violence, injuries, implied/referenced trauma, panic attacks, possession, amnesia Characters: Yuugi Mutou, Yami Yuugi/Atem, Anzu Mazaki/Tea Gardner, Jonouchi Katsuya/Joey Wheeler, Sugoroku Mutou/Solomon Mutou/Grandpa Pairings: N/A - implied one-sided Yuugi/Anzu on Yuugi’s side if you squint When I Started: 2020 How I Lost My Shit: Life happened. We started watching S0 and all of DM together at the start of lockdown and planning this series since we had some spare time. But once mandates started lifting in mid-to-late 2020/early 2021 we both got super busy again and couldn’t sit and plan and write as much as we wanted. How I Finished My Shit: Lots of freaking out, extensions given by our wonderful mod(s) running the Big Bang, and compromise on chapter ideas that were on too grand of a scale to finish on time.

I'm so excited for the upcoming chapters!!! :D also just a heads up, did you know if you add the date the chapter was made on AO3, it'll update it for those searching by date updated? That way more people can locate your work when there is a new chapter!
I had no idea at first but now that I do more people can find my writings on the site :> I wish you luck with the rest of the fic, can't wait for more!
Oh I didn't realize this!
I apologize for such a long delay! I wrote a lot of drafts for this chapter, but I didn't like a lot of them. So I've been stuck in rewriting mode. I might just end up posting one of the finished drafts, because this is taking so long though.

Sometimes you overthink your writing and the solution to your writer’s block is not to complicate the chapter you are stuck on more. But to go back to the basics and simplify it. Cut out th parts that do not work for you. There you might find your flow again.

Sometimes you get a burst of inspiration but don’t have anything on hand to write out so you cry internally as you feel your ideas fading into the void :’(

So I see three solutions to this problem: 1. You close out the document and mull over it for a few days to a week and see if you can figure anything out then. 2. Let your characters lose - though be mindful of deaths. A character death isn't something to treat lightly. If it makes sense here, then remember that it'll effect everyone and your plot for the rest of your writing. 3. Go back a little bit and rewrite. You can't think of how to get them out of this situation and this isn't the correct place to let your characters lose one battle? Go back to whatever writing decision led you to this part and start rewriting.
writing is simple. i put my characters into a situation that i, the author, cannot figure out how to get them out of and i close the document

Sometimes fic planning is rambling to your friends about a specific character and then from there stumbling onto a plot point or scene.
Like I’m planning a Sansgoriel fic and tbh it is going to be messy bc of Toriel and Asgore’s complicated past with each other and it’s going to be doubly messy bc of Sans’ issues and just trying to consolidate it all...
BUT I did come up with a starting point for Sans and Asgore that takes inspiration from the Holiday party mentioned on the alarm clock dialogue. I’d love a scene where Asgore is sadly reminiscing on the past on the upstairs balcony, Sans sitting on the railing. Sans was probably there before him to just get out for a minute ‘cause constantly acting and joking takes a lot of energy but for once he doesn’t want to nap and wants to try and be part of the moment. So yeah, Asgore finds him there and he’s a little tipsy from the spiked eggnog (bc you cannot tell me it wasn’t spiked considering how they describe Toriel) but only enough for him to open up a bit more than usual. And he talks about Rudy and how they’d play Santa and Rudolph together and Sans isn’t drunk but it still...hits him in a way. Asgore reminiscing about a simpler, happy time. It reminds him of him and his brother when they were younger, and a certain figure he can’t quite put a name to, sitting at home for the Holiday and opening presents. Before he knew about the timelines, before the RESETS, before...everything.
And he doesn’t divulge this information, but when Asgore apologizes for his rambling, Sans stops him. “nah, don’t worry about it ‘gores. i think rememberin’ and thinking about that stuff is pretty normal.”
And then Asgore just...stops. And looks at him. He’s torn between wanting to thank him for the reassurance, but also to ask. Because sure, for an old, sad goat like him who has experienced a lot of love, but also hardships and loss, it is very normal. But for Sans to sound like he does, to sound like he knows exactly how Asgore feels, it’s different. Because Sans is a relatively younger monster. An adult, yes, but young enough that his hardships should be far and between, and that he should be in the prime of his monster life. What is a couple hundred years, compared to a long life of half a millennia?
But he’s afraid to ask. Because Sans is a fairly private monster, and all of the years he’s seen him lounging around the grand hall - where balls long before his time used to be held - the little skeleton has never divulged any information about himself. And when it became too personal, too close to home, he’d laugh it off, deflecting with a joke, and Asgore would let it go.
So the moment is fragile. And he’s unsure what to do.
It’s then that Papyrus sprints upstairs, looking for help with Toriel whom has gotten completely hammered. (Sans nearly falls off the banister, but catches himself fast enough before he does so.) And the moment is over. But, somehow, despite the conversation being mostly one-sided, Asgore feels a little closer to the skeletal monster. And he wonders what in his life could make him long for the past like he does?

Got a pretty good idea with the current Insomniac chapter now that I forced myself to sit down and rewrite for the (hopefully) final time. It’s going to be pretty different than any of the sneak peaks I uploaded though so you won’t be seeing those probably.
But that’s actually kinda a good thing ‘cause the chapter deviated itself from my original image for it anyways. And I never really liked how it deviated so...

You know when you can’t write that one scene and it’s stopping you from writing?
I give u full permission to skip that scene. Just skip it. Who cares?
Write the next scene! That ones way more fun any way.

Aaand here we have the problem. Fandom is international and I’m sick and tired of american morals being set as the one rule to follow.

Writing a Blind or Visually Impaired Character
A Multi-Step Guide Written by a Visually Impaired Writer and Blogger
I’m hoping this blog will over time develop its own following, and when it does people will inevitably see my bio and notice what I included: I’m visually impaired.
Yes, a visually impaired writer, and I’ve written with two blind characters before so I have some practice in the field.
So, inevitably, someone is going to ask how to write a blind character.
Or, at least, I hope you’ll ask someone who’s actually blind or visually impaired about writing a blind character before you get too involved with your new WIP.
I started writing this guide two hours ago and it’s gotten away from me. It make it a more manageable read, I’m going to separate it into X many parts, and each part will be linked.
Part One: Crafting the Blind Character

Part Two: Writing the Blind Character, including narrative choice, visual description, verbal description, social interaction

Part Four: What Your Blind Character Needs to Survive and Not Die
[Not written yet, but this is the reserved spot for it]
Part Five: Small Aspects of being Blind You Never Thought Of

Part Six: Should You Cure Your Character’s Blindness? (Short Answer: No)

-New- Mourning My Vision, it’s More than Depression. A small personal essay addressing the nuances of the mourning period you experience with a new disability. The mourning period is mentioned in other guides, but this is more detailed.

All parts will be tagged #blindcharacter in my blog, and I will add links to every post as I finish each part. Follow my blog for more writing advice.
