Stranded
<p>Huge thanks to @raptorlily for giving me this prompt!
“Betty and Jughead are snowed in working on the Blue and Gold, pre-relationship, current canon" — It was 5:00 when Betty felt her phone vibrate in her back pocket. She and Jughead were staying a little late to meet their publication deadline. Pulling it out, she saw her mother’s face displayed across the screen, and her blood ran cold, What did she do this time?
“Hi, mom. What’s up?” Betty tried to keep her voice even. She was sure her mother could smell fear.
“Elizabeth? Oh thank god.” Alice’s voice was frantic. “Where are you?”
“I’m at school, with Jughead. I told you yesterday we were going to work late on the paper.” Jughead watched her curiously, worrying he was getting Betty into trouble.
“I don’t know the last time you looked outside, but there’s a snowstorm going on. The weatherman says everyone should stay indoors. I’ll come pick you up.”
“Mom no it’s obviously not safe enough for you to drive over here. We’ll wait out the storm. It shouldn’t last too much longer.”
“Are you sure, Elizabeth?”
“Yes, mom. This way, we can all stay safe. Besides, Juggie and I can keep writing.” Betty felt a flare of hope in her chest as she hung up. She was snowed in with none other than Jughead Jones, the boy she was developing a serious crush on.
Jughead was everything Archie wasn’t. First off, her feelings for him were genuine, not just a projection of what was expected of her. Second, he was thoughtful and sweet. He didn’t allow many people to see his sensitive side, and Betty was damn lucky to be one of them. Finally, they shared interests. With Archie, Betty was constantly trying to be somebody else in order to gain his attention. With Jughead, she can be herself and know that he won’t judge her.
Lately, Betty had felt the energy between them changing. Sometimes, she felt almost as if he was flirting with her. He would make an odd comment here or there, complimenting the way her sweater matched her eyes, or how it suited her skin tone. Most people would brush it off as a friendly compliment, but Betty knew better.
Jughead kept to himself as much as possible. He didn’t like unnecessary socialization, and he didn’t freely give compliments. These little comments began to plant seeds of hope in her stomach, taking root and blossoming into full-blown desire for the boy from the wrong side of the tracks.
“Betty?” Jughead’s voice pulled her out of her thoughts. “You’ve been staring at the wall for the past couple minutes. Everything okay?”
That was another thing Betty adored about Jughead. He was always checking up on her, making sure she dodnt draw too far into herself.
“Apparently we’re snowed in. My mom was going to pick us up, but the roads aren’t safe to drive. The last place I want to be snowed in is home,” she finished with a humorless chuckle. Home was still very tense, with her parents constantly at each other’s throats. Jughead knew this and simply nodded in response, turning back to his article.
—
It was as if Christmas had come early for Jughead. Snowed in with the girl of his dreams? He couldn’t think of a better way to spend the snowstorm.
Glancing at the clock, he was shocked to see that it read 12:37. Both were so absorbed in their work, that time had become irrelevant. Jughead decided it was time to break their comfortable silence in favor of his second favorite activity, sleeping.
“You look exhausted, Betty. Let’s call it a night.”
“Where do you propose we sleep?” Betty had an eyebrow quirked in a sarcastic manner. “The only hospitable furniture is the couch we’re sitting on.”
Jughead simply grinned and said, “I’m a cuddler.”
—
When Betty woke up the next morning, she had no idea where she was. All she knew was that her body was pressed against another, and strong arms held her in place. It only took her a second to remember the events of the previous night: the snow-in, the writing, the flirting.
Jughead wasn’t wrong when he had declared himself a cuddler. Suddenly remembering the dream she had, she shook Jughead awake.
“Jug! Jughead, wake up!”
“Wha- hm Betty what’s the matter?”
“I had the weirdest dream last night. You and Veronica we’re planning to go to the beach, but you said you would only go if people would be wearing bucket hats. Then the two of you started talking about how sexy bucket hats are.”
“You woke me up for THAT?” Jughead did his best to sound intimidating and angry, but Betty knew better. He may act all tough and mad at the world, but he was really just a big softie. “Whatever, babe. I’m going back to sleep.”
Betty froze at the words that came out of his mouth. “Did-did you just call me ‘babe’?” Butterflies had erupted in her stomach, leaving her breathless.
Jughead’s eyes flew open in sheer panic. “Shit, I think I did. Just a slip of the tongue, I guess. Sorry about that.”
Betty would have believed him, if he hadn’t spoken so quickly. “Maybe a Freudian slip?” she teased gently. “I’ve been told I’m quite a catch, Jughead Jones. If you’re going to make a move, you better do it soon.”
She could feel his breathing getting quicker as she trailed a single finger down the hard plane of his chest. It was now or never, and she couldn’t back out now. Her cards were already on the table.
“Fuck it,” she heard him whisper, and suddenly his lips were on hers. Betty brought up her hands to cup his face, and hummed appreciatively against his surprisingly soft lips.
“I’ve been waiting for you to do that for months,” Betty sighed as they broke apart for air. Their eyes hadn’t left each other as they laid there panting.
They were pulled out of their mutual reverie by the sound of Betty’s phone vibrating against the desk closest to the couch.
“Mom?” Betty breathed into the phone
“The roads are all cleared now. I’m on my way to get you. I’m so sorry I didn’t get you before the snow was too heavy. I’ll be there in 5 minutes.” Alice hung up the phone before Betty could acknowledge anything she said.
“My mom’s on her way. 5 minutes is enough time for another kiss, right?” Betty was suddenly nervous. What if their kiss was a heat-of-the-moment kind of thing? What if Jughead didn’t actually want her?
Her worries were cut short by the now familiar feeling of Jughead’s mouth against her own. She quickly wound her arms around his neck, holding him close as he did the same around her waist.
“You said you’ve wanted that for months?” Jughead asked her softly. Betty nodded in response. “Well I’ve been waiting years for the chance to kiss Betty Cooper.”

I’d love some feedback!! Hmu @gay-for-rey1999 or here

prompt idea: archie gets jealous of bughead and one day tries to ask betty out & betty is confused because everyone knows she is dating jughead and jughead hears them & starts to act distant (cuz he thinks they are gonna break up) but betty tells him she loves him only.?
I’m sorry if this isn’t the best, I’m running on two days of no sleep and I going to be out of town so I had to post a quick something!!
The core four sat at their normal picnic table outside on a Friday. Jughead wrapped around Betty and Veronica and Archie platonically laughing about an inside joke they stole from “How I Met Your Mother”, all but one was happy. Archie Andrews. His eyes squinted by laughter lingered on Betty actions, Jughead’s arm slung around her holding her close, her hand on his cheek, both smiling at each other. That was his Betty, or so he thought. Ever since the dance he wanted Betty. He knew it was a dick move. But he had to have her, he can never stray from wanting the things he couldn’t have. He even pushed Veronica away to get Betty. Archie knew the second Betty knew Archie finally liked her she’d leave Jughead. No one is as good as Archie. A sly smirk gained its opacity on his face, he’s getting Betty Cooper.
“Hey Betty,” He said with a friendly laugh, “do you mind tutoring me after school again? Dad saw my grade in Math drop again.” He smiled at her, now this wasn’t totally a lie; he really did need tutoring in math… but this session will have a twist ending.
“Of course Archie, Math is my strong suit; you know that. We can meet at the Blue and Gold newsroom after the bell rings, okay?” She went back to talking to Jughead.
No one thought anything of this friendly gesture, it’s happened often with Archies terrible habit of keeping his grades low. This time, it was definitely different.
The final school bell rang, Jughead met her at her locker. They quickly talked over their plans for the day, Jughead would come pick her up and they’d go on a stay at home date…Jughead’s favorite kind.
“It’s really freaking cold in here Jug, you don’t feel it?”
“Betty, I’m pretty sure I’m immune to the cold. I can give you my flannel.” He started to unbutton the red flannel he was wearing.
“It’s okay, You don’t have a shirt on under that and I don’t need people staring at my boyfriend.” Jughead smiled at her subtle possessiveness. He was definitely more possessive over her, but it was cute on her.
Jughead quickly kissed her goodbye after murmuring a short “I love you. See you after you tutor the ginger jock” Betty hit him on the shoulder as he left. Archie lay in wait inside the empty room of the Blue and Gold newspaper; pacing.  Betty knocked on the door and he waved her in with a smile.
“Ready Ginger Jock?” She gave him a small chuckle before she caught what she said
“Ginger Jock?” He twisted his face. It wasn’t cute like when Jughead did it, more like he ate something seriously sour.
“Sorry, it slipped. Juggie called you that before he left.” She blushed a heavy red and looked away. Luckily she didn’t see him roll his eyes.
Little did the two know that when Jughead went to his truck, he found her millennial pink cardigan laying on the passenger seat and remembered Betty didn’t have one. He smiled at himself as he re-entered the school and walked to his and Betty’s Blue and Gold newsroom, but his smile quickly faded as he stopped to listen in on the conversation taking place inside. He knew eavesdropping wasn’t a good thing, in fact, it was one of his worse habits; but in this case, he couldn’t help it. He stood with his back to the wall on the edge of the door.
“Betty?” He looked at her as she sat down next to him.
“Whats up Arch?” She looked at him oddly as he placed his hand on her thigh.
“I love you.” He smiles at her, he’ll get her. Jughead doesn’t even know whats coming.
Turning to Archies missing assignments, she begins working on them“I love you too Arch! Should we study now?”
Jughead’s eyes widen at the exchange. they mean in a sibling way right? He’s fighting the urge to storm in and steal Betty. But he wants to see how far this will go if it really does start going somewhere.
“No Betty, just wait on the studying, I need to seriously talk to you.” He slides his hand up just a centimeter but Betty really couldn’t notice. The only thing she was worried about was how dangerously close his face was getting to hers.
“Betty, when I told you I didn’t like you after the dance and I saw you walk away I realized you were all I wanted, I want to be your soulmate. I know I’m your soulmate.”
Betty paused to let it sink in, “What about Veronica? I thought you two were together!”
From Jughead’s point of view, it sounded like she was starting to agree. He slid down the wall, tears almost ready to make a grand appearance, he wiped his eyes and strained his ears back on the conversation. He moved to get up and stop it but something was holding him back, he wanted to know what she’d do.
“Bets,” Jughead balled his fist hearing that little twit calling Betty the nickname he used for her. That was his nickname. More importantly, that was his girl. His. He wasn’t gonna share with anyone. “It’s a platonic friendship, I want you.” He leaned in to give her what looked like a kiss. She sat there frozen, she was with Jughead. She only wanted Jughead, Archie had his chance and he blew it. Right when Betty put her hand up to stop him and say something, Jughead walked in. Betty rolled her eyes, “Why is it that right when you’re going to fix the situation someone walks in at the wrong moment?” She thought to herself. She pushed Archie off and punched him, right across the jaw. She had never done that before… she never had a reason to, but this was a good first punch. Bad situation, but good punch.
Jughead slammed her cardigan on the table, When Betty looked at him hard enough, you could see pink on his tear stained cheeks. He was crying, She hurt him.
“I came to give you your damn cardigan so you weren’t cold, but obviously you’re warm enough snuggling into Archie.” He fumed.
Archie wanted to break them apart. If he couldn’t have her, he didn’t want anyone to have her.
“Jug, sorry bro, she’s really into me.”  He smiled a stupidly sly smile at him.
“Archie, do not call me Jug. I am not your bro. You deliberately went against me and wanted to ruin my happiness. You took the only thing that made me happy. Well, I hope my happiness turns into yours I guess.” He rolls his eyes and turns to leave.
“Jughead!” Betty calls for him.
“Forsythe Pendleton Jones!” hearing his birth name rolling off the tongue of his Betty Cooper stopped him dead in his tracks; he didn’t turn around, but he stopped and for Betty that was all he needed.
“I do not like Archie, at all. He had his chance and he blew it. I’m glad he did! Because I would’ve never fallen in love with you, Jughead. I love you! Do you really think I’d do that to you?” She took slow steps towards the still figure. She placed her hands on his shoulder to calm him, but he just pushed them off and turned to face the already crying girl.
“My mom left me, she took my sister. My dad doesn’t even talk to me anymore, he’s detached from me. I didn’t have anyone but you, and now you were just taken from me too, and by someone who I thought was my best friends. You were the only form of support I had.” He tears up with her.
“Jug, I-“ She reached up to his face but Jughead pushed her hands away, turned again and walked out. Betty rushed after him. The only thing she was quick enough to see was him turning his car on and driving out of the parking lot. She fiercely walked back into the newsroom and found Archie just casually on his phone like nothing just happened.
“Oh, hey babe!” He winked at her.
“I’m not your babe. In fact, I’m not your girlfriend, your babe, your friend. I don’t understand how someone I trusted, let alone wanted to be with could be this shallow, self-centered, and just a huge douche. Bye Andrews.” Betty walked past him. Swiped the desk clean just to be extra bitchy and make him pick up his scattered papers on the ground, and walked out the door.
She huffed and pulled her cardigan on as the weather started reflecting her mood. She had no ride home now, so she had to walk. About 15 minutes into her walk the clouds started to cry, or at least that what she called it. There was a massive down pour and she still has about 20 minutes left. How wonderful she thought.
She was pulled out of her trance when a truck pulled up next to her. It was Jugheads truck, but Jughead wasn’t the one driving it. FP Jones tracked Betty Cooper down in this rain after his son got home and told him Betty wasn’t going to be attending. Usually, he wouldn’t pay attention, but this was a different mood change. Jughead kept his head low, grabbed a beer from the fridge and walked straight to his room.
Jughead asked his dad to see if he could find her. He was too afraid to confront her at the moment
FP rolled the window down and whistled at her, “Betty, get in the car.”
Betty hoped in as she shivered from the rain starting to dry and become cold. Both Fp and Betty were under the impression that they were going to Betty’s to drop her off, but in a spontaneous rotation, FP made a right turn in the direction of going to the trailer.
“Look BettyBoop,” That’s what FP began to call her a few months after they started dating.
“I don’t know the full story and I won’t pretend to. But I know Jugheads hurt, I know you’re hurt, you need to talk to him. As a matter of fact, thats where we’re heading right now!”
Betty leaned her elbow against the window attaching her head to her hand to watch the rain fall down the glass of the window, soon dozing off.
“Ms.Boop, wake up, we’re at the trailer.
She nodded and got out of the car and opened the door slowly, heading slowly to Jugheads room. Knocking on the door, she heard Jughead dismiss whom he thought was his dad until she walked in anyways.
“Jughead, I understand you’re mad at me. But I swear I was pushing him away as you walked in, things always just happen at the wrong time with me.” He laid on his bed with his back to the wall and Betty knelt onto the soft gray sheets to be closer to him.
“It not that I’m mad at you, well a bit. But I can’t believe Archie just went behind my back. You’re mine. You’re my girlfriend. What does he not understand, I wouldn’t just go stealing Veronica.”
“Jughead you can be mad at me for as long as you wish, but I’m gonna stay here until you decide. Please don’t shut me out juggie, I only want you. I will only ever want you. I want to be able to grow up and get married, I wanna see our wedding. I don’t want anyone else, they’ll never be my Jughead Jones.
“I’m still a bit pissed, not as much at you. I realize now you were trying to get away from him, but you want to get married to me?” He asked purely shocked.
“That’s really the only thing you took from what I was saying?” She smiled and cupped his cheek.
“well that and little us’ running around, it’ll be perfect, we would be perfect”
“The Archie situation was not what I had in mind for today but at least you’re here with me and not him.”
God I hate him.
“At least Juggie, at least.” Betty reaches to give Jughead the biggest kiss for having a big ass heart.

Betty throwing herself into the river instead of Cheryl and Jughead saving her
Im sorry if this is unacceptably long, I’m still new to this! I added more to the ending than I was asked, but I actually really loved this prompt and personally Im proud of this.
Suicide attempt warning. Au.
Betty didn’t attend school that week. She got rid of the ladder outside the window of her bedroom that lay in wait every night for Romeo to ascend. Betty turned off her phone, locked herself in her room and disconnected from everyone, even Jughead, and Polly. Her slick ponytail turned to a messy bun, she was letting her perfect down, and she liked it. No makeup, no care for clothes besides an S sweater that she stole from Jughead and a comfy pair of ripped jeans. Sitting in her too perfectly pink room, on her too perfectly pink bed she closed her eyes and dug her nails into the palms of her hands. The pain almost a relief for her but it wasn’t enough this time. Her mother had pushed her too far. Alice Cooper never shy of strict perfection on her tired daughter had gone way past her limit, Betty could not fight back.
“Oh, Elizabeth stop lying. You’re not depressed, my daughter could never be depressed. If you keep up that attitude I’m gonna kill you. You’ll end up just like Jason. Stop ruining my reputation, don’t you think you’ve done enough damage to the people of this town. You know, in my head I always wanted you to go like Cliff Blossom. It’d be easier for me, heck, it’d be easier for everyone. I don’t understand what your friends see that’s so special, poor Jughead. I know he’s not much himself but he doesn’t need an, even more so, lowlife like you making it worse” The conversation had started about going to a dance with Jughead. Betty insisted she wear red, but her mother did not agree. The innocent conversation between mother and daughter soon spiraled into a verbal beatdown on Betty Cooper.
Alice Cooper and her daughter Betty Cooper had gotten closer after Betty solved Jason’s murder with the help of her friends, also her mother coming clean about her unborn son had opened a new sentimental side of their relationship. But when Reggie, Trev, and Chuck had started false rumors about Betty getting pregnant with Jughead’s child just like Polly, Mama Cooper spiraled into madness yet again, constantly degrading, yelling, even hitting her daughter. Before Betty had shut him out, Jughead always found a new bruise or red mark whenever he would visit at night and she was in her pajamas. Betty hadn’t seen Jughead or any of her friends since last Saturday and it’s Monday now. She shut her curtains that Saturday, she knew Archie would try to snoop on her or talk to her. Whenever they would come by she’d stand in the other room to hear her mother tell them she wasn’t seeing anyone. They all thought she was mad at them. She slowly maneuvered from her bed, feeling the stiffness in her legs and back as she walked to her desk to grab her phone and two picture frames. One frame held a picture of Archie, Veronica, Jughead, and her sitting in a dinner at Pop’s drinking milkshakes and laughing… Pop Tate took that on the night of the Jubilee. And the other held a delicate picture of her and Jughead at the dance. She was in her pink dress, the one her and her mother argued about and Jughead was as handsome as ever in a classic black tux and bow tie with this crown beanie on. They were smiling as the slow danced together. She missed him. God, she missed him. She turned to the phone she plucked nonchalantly off her desk and turned it on. She let it sit for a while as all of her texts rushed in from the little group chat named “The Core Four”, they had sent her a total of 268 messages all asking to call or if they could come by, asking if she was mad at them, Ronnie and Archie sent her little paragraphs about their day to keep her updated. Of course, Ronnie kept her updated on the latest gossip and videos of the River Vixen routines.  They only thing Jughead would ever say was, “I love you, I miss you. Please talk to me.” He sent that about 5 times everyday. She knew he worried about her, as she did him.
She bit her lip in thought as she texted the group chat. A simple “I’m not mad at you guys, I love you guys.” she turned their group chat on do not disturb as the texts came rolling in and slipped her phone into her back pocket. She unlocked her door and popped her head out to look into the hall. Her parents were asleep, perfect. She padded downstairs to slip on her sneakers on and wrapped her arms around Jugheads sweater as she opened the door and the winter air of November was giving her chills already. Betty slammed the door shut, not caring to be quiet anymore… who really cared, right? She walked for miles without knowledge of where she was going until she came up to a clearing in the woods of a frozen pond. Sweet Water River. She took out her phone and texted Jughead, and only Jughead.
“I’m gonna go down in the same river we thought Jason did. Maybe they’ll care about me then” Betty dropped her phone in the snow and took a few steps before she heard Jughead’s ringtone. She turned on the spot and kneeled to answer it.
“What do you want Jug?” She was a bit irritated that he interrupted her train of thought.
“Betty?! What are you doing?! Where are you?! Tell me where you are and I'll come get you!” He was frantic, almost on a verge of a panic attack. He barely survived the week without her.
“Jug I told you where I was. I’m gonna go down how everyone thought Jason did. I love you Juggie.” She hung up and cut him off.
Jughead barged through the front door of his shared trailer almost knocking his father over in the process.
“Hey! Son! Whats the rush?” FP was confused as ever.
“Not enough time. Emergency. Tell you later.” He rushed out as he slammed the door to his truck and took a second to hit the steering wheel. He didn’t notice he started crying until his nose was running. He started the engine and sped off, definitely over the speed limit, but he couldn’t care less at this point.
Betty slid her way onto the middle of the ice. she stared at the solid ice for a minute or two and contemplated on what she was going to do.  She slowly brought her fist up and pounded at the ice, cracking it with every hit. She sat there thinking about everything her mom made her to be. All the lies her mom filled her with. Nonetheless, she was right. Betty Cooper didn’t see herself as anything more than a nuisance, she only got in people’s way and ruined their reputation and their lives basically. Then she thought to Jughead. Poor Jughead. He deserved someone that wasn’t this problematic, someone simple. She hit it to the point if you stood on it, it would completely bottom out and drop you in the ice cold current. She stood up, and something caught her attention. A red flannel wearing, beanie-capped boy with a flashlight. Jughead.
“Betty, come to the shore. Come to me Betty, please.” He pleaded with the girl trying to reason with her.
“Juggie, I can’t.” Betty was a crying mess by now. Tripping over her words, jumbling them together.
“Why.” He took a step towards her. Just one.
“Don’t even think about coming over here Jughead Jones, it's too dangerous.” She worried for him.
“I know it’s dangerous. That’s why I’m trying to get you to come to me, Betty, you can’t do this to me. I love you,” He slipped off his beanie, signifying his seriousness, “I love you, Elizabeth Cooper. Please don’t do this. You mean the world to me, not only me but Polly, and Veronica, and Archie, and Kevin, and Ethel, I can go on and on about how much you are loved. Betty do not give up. You can come with me, and I will protect you. I will protect you with everything I have. Betty. I love you, I love you, I love you. I cannot stress it enough.” He’s crying now, even more, if possible. But Betty doesn’t notice him taking a step with each sentence.
“Jug. I don’t deserve someone that loves me like you do. I’m a monster. You shouldn’t love a monster. This darkness inside of me is gonna get you too and I can’t let that happen. You deserve someone simple. Someone like Ethel.” Ethel had recently developed feelings for Jughead after he published an article in the Blue and Gold about her achievements. His face scrunched at the thought of having anyone else but Betty. The stood there for what felt like seconds as the ice was cracking under her feet. He took in her messy hair, her makeupless face. He noticed the S sweater he’s been missing for months now, internally he smiled at her forgetting the position they were in. He slowly reached out his hand to her. But before she even thinks about grabbing it. Before she could decide which side to choose, the ice consumed her. Jughead screamed as she just plummeted into the water, vanishing like she was never there. But then his adrenaline kicked in. That was his girl, and this is not gonna be her ending. He dropped to the floor and swept what little snow lay on the ice. He found her drifting with the ice cold current. She was screaming, she was pale already on the brink of turning purple. After what seemed like minutes her drifting stalled and she sat there pounding on the ice, she was running out of air and would definitely suffocate soon if Jughead didn’t do anything. Jughead knelt down right above where she was and started punching the ice full force. he was yelling and crying. He was doing anything he could to get his girl back.
His hands were coated in fresh cherry red blood. Finally, the ice started to break away, he created a hole barely big enough for her to fit, but it was enough for him. He reached his whole arm in to grab her by the wrist and pull her out. Her face was purple, her skin was cold, she wasn’t breathing. Jughead did the only thing he could think of. He quickly places his hands together on her chest and started pushing. He paused for only a moment to plug her nose and try to get her breathing again.
“You can’t do this to me. Elizabeth Cooper! I won’t let you! I’ll die before I let you do this to me!” He yelled at her. He hadn’t stopped crying since he got her call. That was his baby. That was his girl. She looked like an empty shell. Nonetheless, he didn’t stall his attempt to bring her back to life. After 5 minutes she gasped for the cold air. It felt good in her lungs. She held her hands to her head, completely unaware to Jughead sitting next to her until he squishes her into his arms and cries into her hair. Their sitting on the ice, both cold but Betty more so, shivering, crying, hugging. Jughead spreads little kisses all over her face as he worriedly scolds her.
“Betty what is wrong with you?! Don’t you ever do that shit to me ever again! I was so worried! Betty what the hell?! I love you!” He holds her head in between his hands and makes sure she understands him perfectly well. She’s shivering so he takes her (his) sweater and wraps her in her flannel and puts his beanie on her head and picks her up and runs to his truck. Once finally in the car, he cranks up the heater to make an effort to help as much as he can. Half way home he can see she’s still shivering. He unclips her seatbelt and pulls her over to his side and wraps his arm around her. She smiles to herself, despite what they had been through not only fifteen minutes ago, she felt at peace. She always felt at peace with him. He always will be there for her. With the knowledge of affection from him, she feels a great wave of remorse push through her.
“Jug” Only a whisper coming out.
“Yes, Betty?” He looked at her for a moment before training his eyes on the road.
“I’m sorry, I just… I thought you’d be better without me. I don’t do much good to anyone and I-“ she was quickly interrupted.
“Betty. Stop. You deserve me as much as I deserve you. Maybe it’s me that doesn’t deserve you, but how could you say you don’t do much good to anyone? You have changed my Betty Cooper. You have made me believe in love. I will only ever want you. Screw your mother, screw your father. You are such a beautiful human being inside and out that I’m beginning to think you’re not even human, more like a damn goddess Elizabeth Cooper. I love you so much. If I let you just do what you did and die, I would never forgive myself. I will protect you from anything and everything; whether it be your mom, or the rumors that the brain dead jocks like to spread about you, or even you. I will protect you, I promise. I love you, Elizabeth Cooper.” He finishes his little speech with a reassuring kiss on her forehead. He smiles as she rests her sopping wet hair on his lap and gently falls asleep.
“I won’t let anything or anyone her you” He whispers to her sleeping form.
Jughead carries his half asleep girlfriends into his trailer. His dad sitting on the couch jumps up at the sound of the door opening.
“What the hell! Forsythe Pendleton Jones! You had me worried sick!” His father completely ignores the sleeping girl in his arms until Jughead shushes him. Jughead carries Betty into his room. Gently he rubs her shoulder only to wake her enough to throw her some of his pajama bottoms. She nods a little thank you when he smiles at her and kisses her temple. He gives her some privacy to change and peacefully be with herself while he talks to his dad.
“Jughead. What happened?” He pulls his shoulder to guide him to the small circle dining table.
“She tried to kill herself, dad. The love of my life tried to end hers.” Jughead said more to himself, almost like it hasn’t sunk in yet.
“Do you know why?” He knew he was pushing his boundaries but FP cared about Betty, she was like his daughter in law already, of course, he wanted her to be safe.
“Not entirely, I know it has to deal with her mom, rumors the jocks made up, and me. Dad. She doesn’t think she deserves me. Well, she didn’t think she did, we talked in the car and that part is solved.” Jughead doesn’t want to cry anymore, but thinking about what Betty wanted to do terrified him.
“Jughead. I know Mama Cooper is the hardest on Betty. I know how vicious she can get. If Betty would like, she can stay here for as long as she’d like, or for as long as she needs. I know you’ll protect her Jug. You love her, I know you do.” Jughead nodded in agreement with that he thanked his father and went to go ask Betty what she thought. He knocked on the door, he heard no reply, the silence scared him. He opened the door and the window was open. Wide open. “Shitty Betty!” He ran to the window looking out of it, looking for his blonde.
“What Jug?” She asked him hearing his exasperation from inside the attached bathroom.
“You really think I’d try to leave?” She wore a small smile on her face following a slight chuckle.
“Sorry, you didn’t answer to my knock and when I came in the window was wide open. Jesus Betty, why is the window open? It’s November, it’s practically on the brink of snowing.” He walked to her embracing her.
Lifting her head up she took his face in her hands, “It feels good. What was so urgent Jug?”
“Dad said you’re more than welcome to stay here until you feel better. But if you don’t want to and you insist on going home that’s fine too. I just want you to be safe and I want you to be hap-“ He took her hands away from his face and held them in his own.
“Jughead, would it really be okay for me to stay? I don’t feel safe at home anymore.”
Beaming at her he couldn’t contain his happiness, “Betty, like I said more than welcome.”

I'm actually here for this
archie and cheryl dating would consist of:
red lipstick stains on his lips and his cheek and his neck and on the rim of his water bottle when he offers her a sip after practice
his beloved varsity jacket draped over her shoulders when she’s in her cheer outfit because let’s be real, fashion icon cheryl blossom would not wear it willy-nilly when there is potential outfit-clashing
(she does, however, make a habit of stealing his cardigans because they’re comfy and usually work with her wardrobe)
(speaking of fashion, graphic tees make her cringe and luckily archie doesn’t own many, but she lets it slide whenever he wears his spiderman shirts because it’s his favorite comic book in the world and it also happens to match her spider pins so whatever, it’s perfect)
archie fiercely defending cheryl at the drop of a hat
against her family and their classmates and even his friends from time to time, because it happens, it’s cheryl, there’s a lot of history, but veronica and kevin are open enough and betty and jughead are less so for reasons that he understands, but they make an effort for archie, and when polly gives birth and betty sees cheryl totally in love with the twins and there for polly, it’s easier to let the past be the past
archie talking his dad into letting cheryl stay for dinner and eventually staying some nights because her house is a hell hole and now that she’s confessed the extent of the bad blood between her and her parents, he wants to keep her as far away from that horror house for as long as possible
and yeah, i believe his dad would warm up to cheryl because she’s not her parents and when you learn to chip away at that wall she builds up he sees how vulnerable she is, how much she craves warmth and love and acceptance, and to just be wanted, and then he finds himself spoiling her a little
archie complimenting cheryl literally all the time, about anything and everything, because she gets this soft look in her eyes and it’s obvious that she didn’t get this kind of validation from her own family and has to teach herself to be confident, and she is and that’s great, but it’s nice to actually be told your worth instead of always having to convince yourself
on the flip side, cheryl doing the same with archie, praising his talents and his kindness and his big, big heart, because he’s always the first to put himself down and he shouldn’t always have to apologize for himself
cheryl is a Feminine Icon, okay, she’s no one’s property, but she likes wearing archie’s jerseys because he looks so damn happy to see her in his number and she really likes that
also it gets him all hot for her and she likes that too
speaking of which: archie always playing with the hem of her skirts when she’s straddling him when they makeout
because she’s always on top when they makeout, let’s be real
but, okay, maybe not always because sometimes she just likes how it feels to be held, likes the way archie lowers her all gently on his bed and kisses her soft and slow and sweet, and he towers over her like he’s trying to keep the rest of the world away
cheryl painting her toes on his bed while he messes with his guitar or does homework or plays video games with jughead
and on that note, cheryl and jughead being witty and catty with each other, but it’s actually kind of fun, and they’re also two different brands of cynicism and sarcasm and they kind of work together, too? and archie gets a kick out of it, just watches his girlfriend and his best friend bicker and get in full-blown debates at the dinner table while his dad shakes his head
archie and cheryl cuddled under a blanket in his backyard or on his porch while watching a movie on his laptop because it’s “like the drive-in” and she rolls her eyes but is actually very touched and he can tell
archie and cheryl sitting on the same side of the booth at Pop’s, sharing a strawberry milkshake
archie actually putting thought into his outfits because he knows fashion means a lot to cheryl, and jughead just rolls his eyes
archie constantly having to shoot apologetic looks when cheryl drops one of her infamous one-liners and then struts away, leaving everyone stunned in her wake, and archie is outwardly exasperated but inwardly amused by the whole thing
cheryl probably falls in love with archie before he falls in love with her because she’s always been so intense and had all this emotion in her and hasn’t had very many people care for her as genuinely as archie has and so of course she’s going to latch onto that, and archie feels like an ass for little while he’s still trying to catch up with her, but he knows it won’t take him long to get to that point too because it’s cheryl
the first time they say I Love You to each other is probably in the middle of a fight because of course they’re that dramatic
and like, when they fight, cheryl always storms away first and archie hates that it’s so easy for her to walk away, but eventually she admits that it’s because she hates when people leave her, so she has to be the one that leaves first because in her mind, maybe that’ll make it hurt a little less, and he knows he can’t promise not to walk away from her since he’s done it before (and yeah, he feels even guiltier about it now), so instead he promises that he’s always going to go after her and makes her promise to give him the chance to
basically: archie and cheryl could be everything together
and their aesthetic would always be on point

You
To celebrate living together for three months, Jughead and Betty go out for dinner to celebrate when tragedy strikes and only one of them make it home.
“If you must die, sweetheart Die knowing your life was my life’s best part”  ~ You by Keaton Henson.
… …. … ….
Jughead curled around Betty’s form, her soft whimpers shaking her tiny body. He couldn’t help but smirk.
“Don’t laugh at me!” Betty moaned.
“Baby, it’s a cartoon.” He smoothed a hand over her calf.
“It’s a sad cartoon,” she protested, her bottom lip wobbling as a fresh round of tears threatening to spill over.
“I-it’s not Bambi. It’s Tangled, you know Flynn Rider comes back to -”
“She was his new dream, Jughead.” She whimpered.
“Shh, it’s okay. I’ve got you.” Jughead sat up and pulled Betty into his lap. “I won’t let anything bad happen, Bets.”
They watched the rest of the movie intertwined, a smile now plastered on Betty’s face.
“Do you know what today is?” Jughead murmured as the credits rolled on the small TV screen in front of them.
“Of course I do,” Betty turned to face Jughead, a soft hand palming his cheek. “Three months today you moved in with me. Best three months of my life.” She smiled and leaned in for a kiss.
“Shouldn’t we go out to celebrate?”
“Okay, yeah,” Betty smiled again. “I’d like that. Just let me change.”
Betty scooted off the bed and stood in front of the closet, weighing her options. She knew how much Jughead liked the silk blush minidress that hung before her, but he’d seen it so many times.
“You know what I was thinking earlier?” Jughead stripped off his worn S t-shirt and tossed it on the bed, pulling a dark grey Henley over his head.
“Mm?” Betty decided on the blush dress and pulled it out of the closet.
“I think Hot Dog needs a friend.”
Betty burst out laughing as she stripped. “Jug we can barely handle him. We can’t handle a puppy, too.”
Jughead padded over, hunger in his eyes as he took in her naked form. “You start walking around like that and maybe we’ll make it a tiny human friend instead,” He murmured, his hand splaying over her abdomen.
“In due time, Juggie, in due time.” Betty smiled and kissed him slowly. She broke away and slipped the delicate fabric over her head. “Zip me up?”
“You know, I think I changed my mind about dinner. We could stay in and I could eat -”
“Down, boy.” Betty smirked. “We’ll have plenty of time for that later.”
Jughead smiled and zipped the back of Betty’s dress to the top.
“Thank you,” She placed a kiss on his cheek and padded out of the room.
Betty studied herself in the mirror, smoothing the light pink dress over her stomach. She leaned in closer, dragging the kohl liner across her eyelids gently before adding a coat of mascara.
“Ready to go?”
Betty smiled and took Jughead’s hand, patted Hot Dog on the head, then grabbed her keys and headed out of the apartment.
They were seated in the restaurant thirty minutes later, a glass of wine  in front of each of them.
“Have I ever told you how beautiful you are?” Jughead murmured, leaning in to hold Betty’s hand.
Betty smiled and nodded. “You tell me that every day, Jug.”
“I don’t want  you to ever forget.” Jughead smiled and cleared his throat.
“I love you,” Betty smiled and reached for her wine glass, holding it up across from her. “To the start of the rest of our lives.” She waited for Jughead to raise his glass, but a look of terror flooded his face instead.
Betty’s eyebrows knit in confusion. “Jug?” She murmured.
Jughead coughed suddenly, his eyes welling with tears. He stood, clutching at his throat, knocking his chair over behind him.
“Jug?” Panic rose in Betty’s voice.
He coughed violently, blood and saliva spilling over onto his bottom lip, spraying the white tablecloth as he fell to the ground, his face stricken with fear.
“Somebody help!” Betty screamed as she pushed back her chair, kneeling down to where Jughead lay, blood and spit sticking to his lips.
He tried to speak, but it came out garbled, his lungs filling with fluid, blood, anything but air. Tears were spilling over, streaking his skin, sticking heavily to his lashes. Betty brushed the hair back from his face as she placed a delicate kiss on his temple, hands shaking as she wiped a tear off his cheek.
“Jughead, please stay with me.” She sobbed, pulling his head onto her lap. “Jug?”
He choked again, coughing, spraying blood from his lips as he struggled to breathe. He looked terrified.
Short, rasping breaths filled her ears as Jughead’s lips pressed together in a  'B’, over and over they pressed together until finally, through gasps he choked “B-Betty.” His hand found hers and he squeezed.
“Baby?” The word clung to her lips as people clad in white rushed to their sides, pulling Jughead delicately onto a gurney, separating them momentarily.
Someone had called an ambulance. How long had they been on the ground?
Betty followed closely, stepping into the back of the ambulance, finding Jughead’s hand. She gripped with all her might as they hooked him up to a machine.
She felt his grip loosen as he coughed again loudly, sputtering, choking.
“Jughead?” Betty screamed as she stared at his closed eyelids. “No…” She breathed.
She unlocked her apartment door with shaking hands. The sun was coming up now. How long had she been gone? They kept telling her, the doctors and nurses, to go home and get some rest. How was she supposed to get some rest? When she closed her eyes, all she saw was Jughead. Blood. Gasping for air. The terrible noise of his last gasping breath.
She dropped the keys on the counter top numbly and took a deep breath. Hot Dog came bounding out of the bedroom, paws slapping the laminate as he charged at Betty. He panted, waiting for the treat that was always handed to him when they came home.
Betty patted his head and stumbled into the living room, catching sight of herself in the mirror. There was blood on her dress - his favorite dress - and blood in her tangled hair. She felt the bile rise in her throat, her body reacting to the sight of blood - Jughead’s blood - staining her dress, her hair, her skin. She ran to the bathroom and got sick in the toilet.
She stripped the dress off her clammy skin and stepped into the shower, thankful for the built-in seat she could rest on. She didn’t trust her legs would hold her up much longer.
She wept as the water poured over her skin, light pink water swirling down the drain, erasing any trace of Jughead on her body.
As Betty faltered out of the bathroom, Jughead’s silver laptop glinted in the daylight sun, catching her eye. She picked it up and pressed it to her nude body, bringing it to the bedroom with her.
Jughead’s disheveled S t-shirt was still on the bed where he had changed out of it hours earlier. She pulled it on over her head and curled up on the bed beside Hot Dog, opening Jughead’s laptop.
She opened a search engine, then typed in ‘Pulmonary Embolism’.
She felt the tears stream down her face, reading the symptoms, then exited out of the page. She looked through his files, through his finished novel - his half finished novel, his second work. Then, she found a folder named HER.
'Like a summer storm - bold and enthralling and magical. Awe-inspiring. Beautiful. Powerful and like nothing else in the world.'
 'The very definition of ethereal.'
'If not for her, I wouldn’t know of love. Wouldn’t believe it exists. But she taught me, not only does it exist, but it is the most powerful thing on earth.'
Betty didn’t realize she was shaking until Hot Dog stuck his cold nose under her arm and whimpered. He cocked his head to the side, questioning.
Betty slowly closed the laptop and placed it beside her, then wrapped her arm around the dog, tears dropping onto his fur.
Eventually, after her eyes started to burn but still sleep would not come, she flicked on the TV - the menu for Tangled was still up, the PLAY prompt in bold.
While Flynn was singing about his dream, Betty drifted off into a fitful, dreamless sleep.
