theory 1: baseball curses are real bc look what happened to the cubs and the red sox
theory 2: baseball curses are fake bc no one has ever cursed the yankees
theory 3 (synthesis): no one has successfully cursed the yankees bc they employ a cadre of dark wizards

Idk if this is a hot take or not but. I don't need to see Neytiri be badass this time around.
Like. Don't get me wrong, I definitely won't complain when she inevitably is because she is one badass woman, that's not what I'm trying to say. But what I want to see more than anything?
I want Neytiri to be allowed to be vulnerable. I want Jake to comfort his wife on screen for once. And I want the fandom to not demonise her for acting irrationally when she's overcome with grief.
Like here we have an indigenous woman who has been put through literal HELL by the sky people. She's watched them kill her sister, father, and son, had her home destroyed TWICE and finally been forced to leave it and nearly everyone she knew, watched as the sky people take and take and take with no end in sight. And now through two films she's had to be strong through it all and honestly in TWOW she was kinda treated like shit and shoved to the background while decisions were made for her.
I know she's gonna have to fight again in Fire and Ash and that's fine. But ffs give us ONE scene where she's allowed to cry and scream and express the fucking trauma she's been put through, and let Jake shut up for once and Be There For Her.

Two thirds of cats (67%) currently have access to both indoor and outdoor environments, decreased from 70% in 2022, while 31% live indoors only, increased from 28% in 2022, and 1% live outdoors only. The proportion of cats who live solely inside has been steadily increasing since 2011, when only 15% of cats lived indoors only and 83% both indoors and outside. Of those cats whose owner told us they had access to both the indoor and outdoor environment, 70% can come and go as they choose, 31% are shut inside at certain times of the day or night, 17% have the option to go outdoors but choose to stay indoors, 8% are shut outside at certain times of the day or night and 8% have access to the outdoors but it is either cat-fenced or a catio (i.e. outdoor cat enclosures like patios for cats). - PDSA Animal Welfare Report 2024
Interesting to see how indoor cats are becoming more common in the UK. Still way too low, but it's been increasing by just over 1% a year, which is encouraging. At this rate indoor cats could eventually become the most common option and outdoor cats seen as less acceptable.
Also 8% of the indoor/outdoor cats don't free roam and only have access to a catio or cat-proof garden, so if my math is right then overall it's 36% of UK cats that don't free roam. That's over a 3rd of all cats in the UK! If you include the 17% of cats that have access to the outdoors but chose to remain strictly inside then that's almost half of all cats in the UK!
Would be nice to see animal welfare organisations embrace this shift towards indoor cats rather than continuing to promote letting cats outdoors. The report mentions welfare concerns around indoor cats (2% don't have access to litterboxes???), but if welfare organisations promoted the care needs of indoor cats more than people would be better informed.

and a shoutout to the two Māori men who travelled to Vienna in 1859, got themselves apprenticed as printers (and incidentally became accomplished ballroom dancers), and finally had an audience with Franz Josef where they charmed him so much that he sent a printing press to New Zealand….which was promptly used from 1861 to print the newspaper of the Kingitanga anti-colonial movement.
