hi! i was thinking of starting my own etsy shop, but it seems kind of . overwhelming i guess? and everything i’ve read is so dense and i need it explained to me like i’m 10 years old and know nothing. and you’re the only person i know that has a shop. so i was wanting to ask a few things if it’s alright! if not feel free to delete this lol

1) how expensive is it to start and maintain one? i know there’s fees to it

2) how exactly do you get all the shipping labels and whatnot for packages?

3) if you’re shipping stuff like prints, how do you stop them from getting horrendously bent out of shape in the mail?

it is completely overwhelming to set up ngl and etsy definitely doesnt make that any easier lol I’ll try and share things as I understand them??

1) so theres.. i think it was roughly $30(USD)? start up fee to set up your shop, then they charge 20cents per listing, then they take a small percentage of each sale you make (i wanna say 6% but i may be off on that), and of course listings expire so they charge you i think another 20cents to renew/autorenew it after a few months.. etc etc death by a hundred papercuts lol but nothing astronomical and you will see a profit as long as you’re getting sales!

2) honestly the most expensive part of selling on etsy is all the stuff you have to buy to streamline and personalize the shipping process & this is one of those things. I bought a label printer ($60?ish but im sure theres cheaper)

and its honestly a life saver. if you buy the shipping lables direct from etsy and print them with a lable printer like mine you get a smallish discount on them and the price is taken from your revenue!

3) For posters iv been using these reinforced flat pack/rigid mailers and haven’t had any issues so far!! (i originally got rolls but didnt like them at all so i switched pretty quick)

ALSO i think the most important thing is YOU WILL NOT GET ALL YOUR FUNDS RIGHT AWAY!!!! im 100% sure it says this.. somewhere before hand but i missed it so. the first 90 days you get only portions of your sales $$$ over time while they make sure you arent a scammer or whatever. they will give it to you after the 90 day period but dont, say. make a preorder that you have to order asap thinking you will be able to buy the keychains with etsy money immediately,,, this goes badly and hurts your wallet very much

i tried so hard to be brief but iv failed miserably because i cannot be normal about them,, so 😔 under the cut it goes

(theyr actually Witcher ocs but im gonna try n talk about them in a way that makes sense to anybody who hasnt read the books/etc???)

Basiart is a retired monster hunter from an essentially extinct school of hunters? that kind of?? mutated kids into better, longer lived mutant monster hunters (that regular people fear and disdain). he turned 200ish and just got sick of all of it and decided fuck it, everybody else is gone, Im just gonna do what I want now (what he wants is to be left alone in the woods to be gruff and standoffish in peace but hes too much of a soft busybody deep at heart to ever actually succeed)

Drassird Was an up-and-coming promising wizard who dabbled in magic he shouldnt have and it (literally) blew up in his face, leading to exile, blindness, not-insignificant scarring and brain scrambling, and intense prophetic dreams. Between the brain damage and the dreams he sometimes has trouble remembering where and when he is but Basiart always has his back and is his only mildly unwilling companion on quests to figure out his dreams. Hes a live-wire and a danger magnet with Just enough luck to always make it out somehow

(Basiart nursed him back to health(y-ish) after finding him post Blow Up™️ and along the way they slowly fell in love.. Bas is Drassirds rock and constant way point that allows him to be 100% himself without fear, and Draz is Basiarts spark that livens up all of the long dull years he lives thru they complete one another)

Itussa is a relatively young elf (~60ish) that left her people to find her calling and true love who said that. Elves are a pretty hated race so she usually covers her ears with scarves while traveling. Shes a stereotypical booksmart genius- fantastic herbalist, speaks multiple languages, picks up instruments easy as pie, decent healer.. cannot cook to save her life, somehow. or flirt. lesbian girlfailure who falls apart in front of every pretty tavern maid.

(She gets swept up into one of Drassirds prophecies and ends up becoming a fairly regular traveling companion, treating them both like her horrible smelly older brothers but they all love eachother dearly)

*disclaimer for the next part: vampires in the witcher are not At All like in most modern takes on them. they are an entirely separate species of monsters (that were never human, and a human cant become one either), some of which are capable of maintaining human forms, while other lower forms cannot, some which require blood to live, and other higher forms that just enjoy it like a fine brandy. many of them are more animal than they are human. im simplifying a Lot but hopefully itll still make sense*

Ekhid is an incredibly ancient, incredibly powerful (Higher) vampire who has spent centuries roaming around doing just. whatever he sees fit at the time. ((While he spends pretty much 100% of his time in human form, he is also able to turn into.. essentially an Enormous Bat Monster. not super relevant but hot imo)) He finds all life- human, vampire, elf, animal, monster, other, etc- incredibly fascinating but holds nothing sacred. he can be as kind as he can be cruel but he tends toward a more helpful nature. He has recently begun growing a little family of his own that needs feeding, so he presents himself as a wandering scholar and healer amongst humans (if he collects more blood than necessary or if dangerous streets are suddenly less dangerous after he leaves, well)

Lyyra is a relatively fledgling vampire, of a lower and more animalistic sort than Ekhid (bruxa). She spent her life ‘haunting’ an abandoned castle and the forests surrounding it, enticing any humans foolish enough to draw close with her song before draining them entirely of their blood. the hunting was sparse but she’s completely besotted by the statue in the castles courtyard, convinced theyre in love, and refuses to leave.

(Ekhid set up shop in the castle, ignored all her fussing, and decided she was His fledgling now and should learn how to behave. she was against it at first, but he keeps her well supplied with blood and is teaching her how to blend in better in society so eventually she warms up to him. other people? not so much..)

Daisy is a very, very young fledgling vampire from a sort that typically resemble large, monstrous bats (ekimmara). Because she’s so young, she’s only able to assume a human form with Ekhids help. her kin were most likely slain, since its rare to find a sole pup on its own, but Ekhid thinks shes the cutest ball of bat fluff hes ever seen and immediately added her to his tiny family. she has no clue why she cant chomp into every yummy blood bag they meet but Ekhid keeps her fat and happy and she loves him very much so she has no complaints.

(Ekhid is both an Elder and more powerful type(??) of vampire than both Lyyra and Daisy so he holds a certain amount of sway over them that helps keep their more blood thirsty habits at bay and allows them to coexist peacefully without drawing attention from monster hunters or human mobs. he could deal with both but doesnt want to risk his cute fledglings)

Ekhid runs into Basiart and co. while theyr hunting another vampire and theyr at odds at first, since Ekhid is genuinely hiding two very dangerous monsters his fledglings but they come to an understanding when Ekhid helps them out and he becomes a regular overly friendly guest in their adventures!

i have so many other minor characters that i have very little to no art of 😩 but thats the jist!!

huge shout out to merryandmae on etsy for selling me these absolutely adorable jonny themed charms theyr so cute (and it also turns out they follow me on here perhaps so HI TY AGAIN!!)

they still have the charms as a set of seperate stitch minders and also a ton of gorgeous yarn im gonna have to get into since i (not to brag🥴) recently knitted a scarf successfully for the first time.

this is a part of my brand at this point, but i have to ask if you were considering a carmilla keychain. carmilla fans are in dire need of carmilla merch (literally so happy u made that sticker of her <3). have been so ecstatic to see u selling stuff again (and dw if ur not considering a carmilla keychain!). love ur mechs art forever

i've been using clip studio on my computer for a while now and it's pretty nice, do you recommend it on the ipad? i've been debating on getting an IOS license too

iv only ever had it on the ipad so i cant speak for what changes there may be but honestly i do recommend it! my friend has procreate and it sounds like they deal with waaaay more issues than i do

only problems iv ever had are honestly user error,,

(mainly not saving periodically while i work 😩)

clip studio! its not super expensive, is fairly easy to use & since its so common there are a ton of videos explaining how to do this, that & the other incase your brain is as smooth as mine so thats very helpful

(altho if anybody needs a free program i would Highly recommend firealpaca!!! i used it for the Majority of my drawing career and only stopped because it isnt available on the ipad 💔 i miss u)
