Last night, I checked on Time Machine and saw it was "preparing to backup " for 1 1/2 hours. I formatted it and two nights ago, did a successful initial backup which consisted of about 600 or 700 GB (on a 2TB drive). I have a new external hard drive to replace one that failed for Time Machine BAck up.

The phase-shifted signal is added to the original non-phase-shifted signal, and depending on the amount of phase shift and whether it is positive or negative, the audio signal is amplified or attenuated at the desired frequency (frequencies). The irony is that phase shift is what makes EQ work. Smaller amounts of phase shift will occur at farther distances from the bell. Half-way down the left side of the bell there will be maximum positive phase shift, and halfway down the right side of the bell there will be maximum negative phase shift. However, the phase shift extends beyond this. In other words, if a bell curve is introduced at, say 1.5 kHz, as shown below, the effect of the curve extends to 1 kHz at the leading edge (left hand side of the bell) and 2 kHz at the trailing edge (right hand side of the bell). Altering the phase means that the timing of the signal is moved backward or forward in relation to the frequencies in between the front and rear ends of the frequency modification. Modifying the frequency response alters the phase, with the most alteration occurring at the front end and rear ends of the frequency response modification. The basic flaw with EQ has been that it exhibits group delay, which is a frequency-dependent phase shift of a group of frequencies. And, when the final tape was prepared for cutting the lacquer for making LPs, an RIAA pre-emphasis EQ curve was also applied. In the old days of analog recording, analog EQ was usually applied during the recording stage too. Through Deram’s experimental “Deramic Sound System” worked well for ambitious projects like ‘Days of Future Passed’ by the Moody Blues, (where the band collaborated with the London Festival Orchestra) the label’s insistence on aural clarity resulted in the Ten Years After debut displaying a crispness and purity that seemed incompatible with what was, at the time, a hard-rocking bar band. Wright negotiated a record deal with new, high fidelity Decca subsidiary Deram, and their eponymous debut LP was released in October 1967. This led to a residency, yet another name change, and an invitation to play the 1967 Windsor Jazz & Blues Festival. The now quartet, working under the name “Blues Trip,” signed with manager Chris Wright, and played a high-profile gig at The Marquee Club under the name “Blues Yard” supporting the anarchic Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. Drummer Ric (no relation) Lee had joined in 1965, and when the group moved to London, classically-trained organist Chick Churchill became involved – firstly as a “roadie,” and then as a fully-fledged member, when the band got a job backing chart-topping vocal trio The Ivy League, who scored hits with ‘Funny How Love Can Be’ and ‘Tossing & Turning.’ Ten Years After, often referred to simply as TYA, were formed by guitarist Alvin Lee & bassist Leo Lyons, from the ashes of a Nottingham band formerly known variously as The Jaycats, The Jaymen, and The Jaybirds, who, like Chicken Shack, were also veterans of Hamburg’s notorious Star Club. Those men were Alvin Lee, Ric Lee, Leo Lyons and Chick Churchill, and the band was appropriately called Ten Years After. In the Fifties, it had been Jazzmen like Chris Barber and Ken Colyer who began introducing The Blues to Britain, and in the Sixties one group of extremely talented musicians turned the tables and started bringing Jazz back into British Blues.
