NO TIME LEFT FOR A PALESTINIAN GIRL AND HER FAMILY

Last spring, Laila contacted me asking me for help spreading her family’s campaign. It’s been over six months and it still hasn’t met it’s goal. I don’t even know what to say anymore to convinve peoole to care- I feel like everyone who’d be motivated to help already is. Literally any amount of money helps, and even if you are genuinely too broke to donate a dollar, spreading these campaigns so someone who can help matters. I fear for Laila every day, even before my account was terminated (which I can only assume was related to the spree of deletions occuring while people accused Palestinians and their supporters of being scammers) I hadn’t spoken to her in weeks, and I can only pray that she’s still alive- along with her pregnant mother and the rest of her family. Her cousin, Tala, had her account terminated, and her gofundme has closed. We’ve failed Tala, but it’s our obligation to help Laila before it’s too late as well. Every day there is a new massacre, a new atrocity, a new act of inhuman cruelty. We need to help those whose genocide is funded by our tax dollars. When several genocides are happening and people are losing family left and right and couldn't gather around a meal if they wanted to because no food can be found and food isn't being ALLOWED into where they are...

Your "allyship" as a settler is showing up to eat too much food around your family WHICH IS STILL ALIVE and loudly pretending to hate the entire concept of it...from a house built on stolen land?

Do you hear how tone deaf that sounds?

Orange Shirt Day is September 30

Indigenous People's Day in the USA is October 14

Native American Heritage Month starts November 1st

National Day of Mourning is November 28

A great way to spend all of these days rather than being performative and ineffective is to:

Learn about them and how to pay your respects on each day. Like wearing an orange shirt on orange shirt day.

Learn about landback

Stand in solidarity with native tribes and other people around the globe fighting U.S imperialism by taking a stand against the harmful political beliefs your family & friends hold

Learn about native treaties, blood quantum, & how reservations are "managed"

Buy things from natives!! Native jewelery and art is gorgeous!

Donate to natives!! We've faced generations of oppression (look up when natives could vote/became citizens) where we were gatekept from generational wealth so lots of us live in poverty since most of us have been displaced (either historically or in modern times) from our traditional homes or otherwise forced from our way of living

Where you sit to eat on National Mourning Day is LITERALLY your seat at the proverbial colonizer's table, it's a seat that NO indigenous people will ever be invited to. The conversations at that table are conversations ONLY settlers can have. So make them count

I'm not asking you to pick a gunfight with your racist uncle for allyship, but being uncomfortable and making other settlers uncomfortable in their identity as settlers is the LEAST you can do.

Don't eat the food they made. Consider looking up the rations and such native tribes and global indigenous people will be forced to eat the same day and eat that in front of your family. Powdered milk, bread, bologna, maybe an old fruit or limp salad. You'll be fine eating it for a single meal, I assure you.

Alternatively consider setting up a seat and plate of food as an offering. Let it be a symbol of respect, regret, and thanks to the natives that died so your family had a place to live & eat. Give those natives some of the space stolen.

Learn about the tribes near you; the good (like games, art, and beliefs) and the bad (like how they specifically were impacted by colonization).

See if they have a website and go through it, donate to the tribe if you can and/or learn how to support them and speak up. My local tribes for example are deeply focused on restoring salmon and tearing down harmful dams so spreading awareness about that locally is very important to me!!

Harbor your own relationship to the land. Learn to appreciate it's gifts (fruit, seeds, air, the way the earth supports your home, rain to sustain life, etc) and research how you can return the favor and show gratitude. Become an ally in the global fight against colonization that seeks to harm, monopolize, and capitalize on the earth to the detriment of people worldwide.
