In preparation for the first episode of my upcoming indie (and i mean really indie, it's just me making it for now) animation series the

POSITRONIC OPERA

I decided to try a different type of post, showing a process for the first episodes shining star and my beautiful baby boy -41 76 65 73

You'll learn ABOUT him in the series, here you'll only see a lot of progress shots i usually keep to my friends. But i need engagement. SO...

fair warning - this fucker took almost a month to make, which is the longest I've ever taken for a personal project that isn't my avatar, and if you've seen my avatar- you'd know why that takes ages.

What i am saying is - prepare for a fucking huge post

(not) a fun fact- about this point i had a crisis of faith that almost made me quit making him. Unfortunately for the crisis, my theme song has the freedom leitmotiff in it, so i got over it.

Yes i call myself Mordred the Murderous, i am a FUCKING WIZARD (not really, but i kinda found the name funny and didn't bother to ever change it)

yes i am corny as shit, it's normal Intersex behavior. I have two modes- Dracula castlevania, and Burgley Deltarune if his head wasn't up his cloaca.

(that is a lie, i have about a hundred mutually exclusive modes)

The external alerons were a real headache for a while ,you're not ready for the solution that i came up with for them.

Need it be said also, that i did make a few progress gifs to promote Positronic opera on twitter. And the reception was... Lukewarm at best. It's mostly the algorithm, but whichever the cause it really sucks to see your own passion project not be met with the same kind of passion from your own audience.

You get used to it though, it's why i'm still working on it, lol.

Also i ran out of pic limit so... continued in part Two... possibly even three

Palm trees! Floating debris! This Nightmare Kart dev updates got it all!

The track has been extended by a small amount, adding a big 180 turn to the sandbar, with the shortest path hugging the cliff being underwater so players have to gamble taking the shorter path against the drowning status effect.

The palm trees are one of the few assets to receive a low detail LOD model. There are examples of LODS used in PS1 games, but they tend to be used much more sparingly compared to today. Normally I would have trees be a simple sprite mapped to a card, but i really wanted to preserve the volume of the fronds so I made a higher poly version that only renders when the player is very close.

The floating debris are a combination of a particle effect and a simple looping animation that makes the model bob up and down. It is also destructible, making them satisfying to drive through!

I wish depression were an emergency. I wish someone could take one look at how sick I am and go “oh my god, we need to get you to a hospital!” and then when we get there I get rushed into surgery and the surgeons say “it’s a good thing you brought her here when you did, this is a seriously advanced case” and then they put me under and spend the next ten hours pulling metres of long, sticky black strands of gunk out of my body, throwing it immediately into an incinerator so that it can’t infect anyone else. And then they could stitch me back up and I could rest a few days, and when I leave the hospital everyone can see how much better I am and they congratulate me saying “well done, you’ve been so brave, I’m so glad you’re ok. I love you.”
