Am I having a prolonged fear response???

When first got into TF2 I saw gameplay, I heard voice lines, I watched the valve sfm teasers, then I read the official comic. I found out very quickly that SNIPER scared me to death. After first reading the comics, I watched him pull a Dexter on Demoman, and I had NIGHTMARES. (No, I am not twelve.)

I’d see him and start to sweat, thinking about him made my skin crawl, his laugh and his evil smile would make me cry and tremble in fear.

Until one day I wasn’t scared anymore. One day, I looked at Sniper tf2 and he was the hottest fictional man I had ever seen. I drew him for weeks straight and I think my fear of him still lingers from time to time, but exposure is helping. 💔😭

I know this isn’t reddit but your art reminded me of the strangest fear I had ever felt, and I think it was time for me to share my story.

i often struggle with wanting to just disappear from da internet but i have to remind myself that it’d probably be kind of an asshole move for the people who might enjoy my stuff even a little🙏it always sucks when you can’t find an artist whose work you liked and didn’t save. so ty for these words they mean a lot

though i genuinely love both fluff and angsty stuff i believe both need a lot of pre-build and understanding from the author to actually hit hard. it might not be obvious from what i usually draw but i enjoy red snsc even more than cross-team bc i can clearly see them being healthy and happy together, and the toxic stuff hits way harder when it happens in a relationship that was first built on genuine trust and love

so i’m not just trying to… idk make some shock effect outta “waaah here’s an emotionally draining toxic pwp story and then i draw them being cute and happy to shock y'all” NO!!! stuff like that fic comes from me thinking about how both characters’ flaws (scout’s desperate need for approval that pushes him into situations where he’s forced to go through terrible things he hates even despite his pride just to be seen by the only person he thinks values him, and sniper’s inability to properly show affection or make the first move that could build or maintain their relationship without force) can affect their bond in different ways

the stuff i put in brackets are also what i love to see being healed through their closeness but i can’t ignore the fact that sniper’s past, the things he’s gone through and just accepted as “part of growing up” can lead to… well really messed up stuff. they’re in an unhealthily codependent relationship and sniper acts the way he does not out of malice but because he doesn’t know better. (NO IT’S NOT A JUSTIFICATION he’s still a fucking asshole and a r/pist in that fic but i feel like it’s important to remember that abusers are people too, not in a sympathy way but in the sense that violence doesn’t just appear out of nowhere. predators often aren’t immediately recognizable, and hurt people hurt people)
