Which European countries rely most - and least - on tourism?
In tiny Montenegro, with its sliver of Adriatic Sea, the travel industry accounted for nearly a third (30.8 per cent) of the country’s GDP in 2019. In 2019, Montenegro’s reliance on tourism was closely followed by Croatia’s. The coastal Balkan country depended on tourism for nearly a quarter (24.8 per cent) of its GDP. #Montenegro #Croatia #tourism #travel #GDP #euronews Read the full article

The nature in Macedonia is an eternal inspiration for any work of art
The stories about the young local heroes in Macedonia will continue in 2022 and one of the many modest stories that will follow is the story of Aleksandar Radicheski. A man from Gostivar who, with the help of objects from nature that he collects while on a walk, creates works of art in his own unique way.
Aleksandar is an active mountaineer and a member of "PSK Bistra" from Gostivar. He has made two successful exhibitions of his personal photographs so far, and says that such handmade paintings that he started making six years ago encouraged him to become an avid collector. His interest in this technique began six years ago while he was hiking and he spontaneously started collecting unique pebbles which later he used to make a unique work of art.
dav The works he makes have their own symbolism and most often he makes flowers or a family, which according to him have their own special beauty. The way his paintings will be like depends from the region he will visit. Alexander says that each region has different natural materials that can be used. Lately, he has been trying to photograph the landscapes he sees while traveling, but he says that it takes time and a lot of preparation.
The creation process is not simple. It can last up to eight days, or even more. It all depends on the chosen topic of the buyer, his idea and of course the assortment of pebbles and materials. The first step starts with sanding the substrate, varnishing it and arranging the frame, and then the most beautiful part begins with placing the objects. For what people most often ask from him, are usually beautiful moments that are associated with an unforgetable experience, starting from family gathering moments, wedding proposals and romantic gifts for their loved ones. Macedonian burgers prepared at the ski centre Mavrovo
When food, mountain and adventure come together, you get a unique mix, which for some people is the right recipe for a successful business story. Using these ingredients, Joco from Skopje feeds hundreds of skiers every day at the ski centre "Mavrovo", where from morning until evening prepares various types of burgers with beef meat.
For us, the story of Jojo’s BBQ is cute in many ways. First, we are happy that in Macedonia, there are such adventurers who make a barbecue every day at 1600 meters above sea level, and on the other hand, we are glad that his story promotes the tourism in Mavrovo and spreads positive vibes among the skiers who visit this ski centre. Joco says that behind the successful story of "Jojo's BBQ" is a large team, led by Jojo and Borla-Manot. It started to develop spontaneously. His love for cooking inspired him to prepare various specialties that he loves to eat while on the mountain. Last year at Staro Bacilo was important for Joco because he received a huge support from his close friends who helped him with the logo design and the promotion.
Maybe the story would not have been so successful if Joco had not been in love with the mountains. His past is associated with the mountains. He says that he has been an active mountaineer for years, and he has climbed almost all the peaks in Macedonia and some very interesting peaks in Europe.
"The mountain taught me many things in life and was one of the main inspirations for what I do today. We made such a good combination of hobby, food and friendship," said Joco. Jojo’s BBQ menu is short but sweet. Here are a few different burgers and hot dogs, but there is always room to add new interesting recipes.
Today he cooperates with SkiHuts and Resort Mavrovo and says that thanks to the good management everything works great. Joco is that kind of man who wants to offer something different in Macedonia with this project. It often happens that he changes the location and is present at "pop-up" events. Read the full article

Macedonian wine story for another boutique winery
Small boutique wineries and individuals producing wine and brandy are the new challenge for the tourism in Macedonia, especially taking in consideration the fact that people who want to travel prefer to be guests of people where the humane relationship and close contact with the host will allow them to experience and to feel the whole story in the right way. This is one of the main reasons that motivate us to continue telling such unique stories of local heroes who do small things of great importance for the development of tourism in Macedonia.
Today we will tell you another wine story about Lazar Pletvarski. The man who over the years was part of the wine production in California, New Zealand and Bulgaria, and today he has his own Pletvarski Artisan Distillery in Kavadarci. According to him, the distillery is a renewal of the previous generation’s tradition of producing brandy. This family business starts in 2017 with the main motive to produce something that is not on the market. He remembers the beginning when the classic brandy tastings with his close friends turned into a family business. All the comments that Lazar got from his close friends were the key moments that prompted him to open "Pletvarski Artisan Distillery" and to produce brandy in his own unique way.
Currently Lazar is not thinking about increasing the quantitative production of brandy, but is striving to improve the quality of brandy. His focus is on expanding the vineyards and growing a larger area of Riesling or R’kaciteli. There is no resident in the Tikves region who does not own vineyards. This tradition is also part of the Pletvarski family. Lazar’s father grew a vineyard when he was young, and viticulture, winemaking, the barrels and the pots have been present in the family for four generations.
"When people who do not know me ask me, since when I have been in this business, I tell them that I have been in the business of winemaking and brandy making since I was a baby, for sure some of my uncles or grandfather secretly smeared my mouth with wine J ... so that's how I grew up into a winemaker," says Lazar. He started his education in Bulgaria, Plovdiv and got his master's degree in Skopje. He continued to upgrade his education in various wineries and distilleries. He worked on three continents, and especially enjoyed the harvests in California, New Zealand and Bulgaria. This work experience allows him to participate in the preparation of millions of litters of wine and brandy, but still without leaving his mark.
Today, Lazar’s artisan distillery produces about 2,500 bottles a year, for which his friends tell him that that is a small production and that he should consider about expanding. However, when it comes to expansion Lazar says the basic rule in building a distillery is the fact that in the first ten years of existence of the distillery is that no revenue can be expected because the earnings go back into reinvestment. He says about his business that he is well placed to grow on his own, slowly and organically. The production of brandy is difficult, and can be done only by those who have passion, for which Lazar says that the biggest reward is the smile of a customer after the first sip of good brandy.
Now, he is selling the three-year-old brandy for which he says is a product that a fan of a good sip of brandy can afford. In future, he will also produce liqueurs for which there is already a great interest. The barrels are already full, and in three years, he will be able to launch this product on the market, which he says will make an impact on the senses of people with the highest criteria and refined tastes.
