SL: "It's so nice to eat you."
Lux paced the small, confined space of her kitchen like a tiger trapped in a cage. She couldn't seem to calm her breathing as she fought to focus on anything that wasn't the painful thud of her heart trying to escape her chest. She'd arrived and gotten settled in the night before and had promised herself that she was going to go out the following night and do something that wasn't hiding within the walls of her new apartment, but when she tried to recall the events of her evening, she was met with one giant, blank space. What the fuck had happened last night? Lux came to an abrupt halt, setting her empty coffee mug beside the sink before she shuffled off toward her bedroom. She had to get the hell out of that apartment before she lost her goddamn mind. Changing into a pair of jeans and a tank top, Lux quickly grabbed a hoodie and slipped her feet into a pair of boots. She wasn't sure where she was headed, the only thing she did know was that she just needed to go. Stuffing her phone and her wallet into her pocket, Lux stepped through the front door before locking every bolt on the door. Lux descended the stairs with a scowl twisting her lips. Something had drawn her to this perpetually dark place and a part of her felt at home. However, there was no denying that part of her being that urged strongly to return to place she'd only just escaped from. As she moved along the broken sidewalk, Lux couldn't help but wonder why the sun didn't seem to sit as high, or why it was shrouded in a soft, blue grey glow. This place was strange, though that didn't distract from its worn, almost rundown beauty. The small town was just as captivating as it was unsettling. Lux moved along at a slow, unhurried pace. She was caught up in her head, oblivious to her whereabouts as she allowed her feet to carry her whichever direction they chose. There was a thick silence that hung around, the air lacking the honk of angry drivers, or the calls of kids playing in their yards. In fact, there was zero activity at all. It was a ghost town at noon and that was downright nerve wracking. The realization that she was alone, did absolutely nothing to calm the anxiety that Lux had been battling with since she'd woken up. Rustling off to her right drew her attention toward a dumpster. Lux had somehow stumbled into a long, narrow alleyway, and it didn't look like the distance back was any closer than the distance forward. Something creaked off to her left, causing her heart to beat erratically as her breath escaped in short, harsh pants. Lux had had enough excitement, she decided as she vowed to avoid being murdered by a crazy person. She needed to just get back to her apartment and well, never fucking leave. She couldn't remember anything from the night before and now, she was stumbling through an alley at lunchtime, paranoid by every little sound. Something launched itself at her, barreling out of the shadows and right into her petite form with enough for that her back slapped the cool, rough brick wall that had only been a few feet from her. “W-what-? Help!” Oh, who was she kidding? There was no one around that would hear her. She was going to die in that alley, with no memory of her first night in a new town. Two days after finally gaining a sense of freedom. Yep, that was her life. Bitterly ironic. “You must be new.” A deep voice purred into her ear as cool fingers wrapped around the slender column of her throat, “Otherwise, you’d know better than to go anywhere alone, even during the day…” Lux tried to breath past both the lump on her throats and the tightness of those fingers as her stranger spoke. She cracked her eyes open, trying to make out his features, her attempts only proving useless as he stayed within the shadows. She couldn't form words as she wrapped her small hands around his wrist, desperate for him to relinquish his hold. “Deliciously human.” He whispered with a sharp inhale, his breath cool against her ear as he slackened his grip a fraction. Then she felt the witness of a tongue as he hand fell away completely, only to grasp her jaw firmly a split second later. “Blaise, let go of the human.” Lux was pretty sure her heart had ceased to beat as her attacker released her and stepped back, leaving her to fall into a crumpled heap on the gravel. She watched through her tears as the man who had attacked her stepped toward the newcomer, hanging his head. No words were exchanged as he disappeared through a doorway she hadn't noticed before. The man that had saved her took a few steps forward, extending a hand as he glanced down at her, watching with bright eyes, “I should have known that you were going to be a trouble maker.” Lux stopped reaching for that offered hand, a sharp gasp escaping her as her head was suddenly flooded with a series of flashing images. She blinked rapidly as her memories fell back into place, her night no longer a mysterious black hole. Though if she were being honest, knowing wasn't any better than being in the dark. Just what the hell had she gotten herself into? “C’mon, Lux. I don't bite, honest.” That soft smile fell into a slight frown as she continued to stare at him, “And you'll have to forgive Blaise. He's a rarity and sometimes, he struggles greatly with control. I won't say that he's harmless, but so long as I am around, he won't come near you.” Lux finally took the hand that was offered and let the man, Kieran, help her to her feet. “Why couldn't I remember last night?” She finally asked as she dusted herself off and righted her hoodie. Kieran's frown deepened as he reached out and tilted her head from side to side, before dropping his hand, “I had hoped that if I took those memories, you wouldn't get caught up in the chaos, but like I said before, I should have pegged you for trouble. Your mind is strong, and I firmly believe that within a few days, you would have remembered regardless.” Lux was having a hard time trying to process what Kieran was saying. He'd asked her a lot of questions last night, but had carefully avoided answering every single one she threw his way. Now, she felt like she deserved some kind of answer. Hell, she had just been attacked by someone he was clearly close to! “What are you?” She whispered, crossing her arms over her chest, “And what is this place?” A hand landed on her shoulder, “Blaise and myself are vampires, albeit, two very different kinds of vampire and you, Miss Lux, have stumbled into one of several supernatural communities.” Lux blinked a few times, panic welling to the surface. There was absolutely no fucking way that any of this was possible. Nope. It couldn't be. The world tilted on its axis as Lux’s knees gave out, darkness creeping in around the edges of her vision before it spread to consume her consciousness.

SL: Introduction - The Importance of Knowing when to Shut the Fuck Up
*Revised and Edited. “For the love of God, shut your fucking mouth and leave the bar. Now!” The petite, dark haired woman smacked a hand over her mouth as she stared at the tall, burly man that had shouted his command above the loud chatter of the bar. Alright, so, this wasn't exactly how Lux had planned for her night to go, but it became pretty obvious that this was exactly how things were gonna roll. The man coming at her full speed was also probably onto something with the whole shut up and leave bit. She's somehow managed to pick a fight with a group of douchebags and as had always been true to her nature, she just couldn't shut the fuck up. “What are you still doing here, human? You've got about ten seconds before I let these bastards come after you.” He continued to walk forward, large, heavily muscled arms crossed over a thick chest, “Still? Do I need to count backwards for you? Or should I just give them the okay? It doesn't look to me like you're gonna make it far.” Lux blinked hard as her hand fell away from her mouth. For some reason, she couldn't make her feet move. She knew that her absolute best plan of action was to get the fuck outta that bar before the man sent the others after her. She'd come out for a night of fun… This was so not her idea of fun. And human? Weren't they all human? Lux almost shook her head as she realized she didn't have time to think about that one. It was beginning to feel like she was in way over her fucking head. “Five…four…” She could hear him counting and she could clearly see the depending scowl on that face, but she couldn't make her body work the way it was supposed to. It was as if some invisible glue held her feet against the concrete. “Three…” Lux could barely hear much else over the sound of her blood rushing in her ears, until a rough, gravelly voice broke through, “You better run, little girl.” “Two…” The spell broke and Lux nearly collapsed. Whatever held her in place had released her, causing her knees to knock together as they were reacquainted with her weight. “For fucks sake!” She huffed suddenly, throwing her hands into the air as she spun around and took off. She slid onto the crowded dance floor, trying to not get suffocated by the mass of moving bodies. Why? Why couldn't she just do something adventurous one time? That was all she'd wanted. She had finally gotten away from that house and her mother. Lux was done hiding away from the world, and taking care of that sad, sad excuse for a human being. It was time to do something for herself and all she'd wanted to do was see what the world had to offer. Though, despite being familiar with disappointment, she hadn't anticipated this kind of let down. Lux struggled to draw air into her lungs as she ducked past the last of the crowd, her eyes focused on the glowing exit sign that was now a mere twenty feet away. All she had to do was make it to that door and she would be okay. She would be out of the damn bar and those assholes could go fuck themselves. A scream of surprise escaped her as her running came to an abrupt halt. She stumbled back from the solid chest she'd collided with, blinking rapidly as she pin wheeled, fighting to keep her balance. Once she was steady, she tried to move past the new comer blocking her escape to freedom, but he wasn't moving. No, instead, he snaked an arm around her waist and pulled her in close to his side, leaning down so that his lips were against her ear, “Stay calm.” Lux opened her mouth to protest the strange man's words, but her time was out. The group that had been after her now surrounded them both, the leader stepping up to the man who currently held her in place. “Can I help you, gentleman?” He inquired casually. “You can hand over the girl,” Big guy sneered, stepping forward again. Lux didn't know the guy beside her from Adam, but something told her that Big Guy had made a mistake in taking those few steps toward them. “And why would I do that? There is a very strict no hunt law that this place forcefully abides by.” One dark eyebrow rose as if he were challenging the man to take another step, “Besides,” He added with a wicked smirk, “She's with me and I don't share. Now, move the fuck along.” When Big Guy hung his head and turned on his heel, Lux almost couldn't suppress her laughter. Well, that was anticlimactic, she thought as he and his counterparts stalked off, disappearing amongst the other club goers. Once she was sure that they had all vanished, Lux stepped out of her strangers hold and looked up, eyes wide as she took him in. The man was beautiful, with a soft, pale complexion and bright, cat green eyes framed by long, dark lashes. He also possessed a mane of rich, chocolate brown waves that flirted with the tops of those wide shoulders. Upon further investigation, she noticed a few scattered tattoos and scars. “Name’s Kieran.” He supplied suddenly, snapping her attention back to his handsome face. “Lux.” She muttered lamely, dropping her gaze so that she could stare at her toes instead of her stranger. Whelp, this was awkward and she was ready to go home. “Well, Lux, I'm a bit curious about how you found this place. Care for a drink?” Lux felt her eyebrows draw down as she frowned hard at her feet. Why did she feel like she was in trouble? She hadn't really done anything wrong. Those guys had followed her inside and wouldn't leave her alone. She hadn't even finished the one drink she'd managed to order before she snapped. Obviously, the group hadn't appreciated that. “Yeah, I guess.” She sort of shrugged as she took a few steps after Kieran. Lux didn't feel like she had much say in the matter at that point. It was pretty clear that the man had questions, Lux just didn't feel like answering them. She was suddenly exhausted and feeling like a serious dumbass. She also couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen. As she dropped onto a barstool, she couldn't keep her brain from jumping back to the comment that Big Guy had made about her being human. What the hell had he meant by that? It seemed pretty obvious to her that she would be, well, human. What else was she going to be, a fucking alien? Kieran ordered them both a drink, seating himself after handing her the chilled glass. She didn't bother to ask what it was as she sipped the cool contents with a sigh. She was beginning to feel like she had stepped into an episode of the Twilight Zone, a stiff drink or two was definitely on the agenda.
