i’ve been brooding on how to depict tsubaki if i were to do an illustration or edit and i’m still tinkering but i know i want to incorporate the hannya noh mask into the design like i already am for graphics bc that mask represents a woman so overcome with rage/jealousy/grief/betrayal/etc she’s become a demon which is exactly what happened to tsubaki.

Izanami  Setogawa  had  a  strange  genetic  composition,  most  people  in  her  family  did  really.  But  out  of  all  of  them,  hers  was  the  only  one  seen  as  a  bad  omen.  150  years  ago  her  several  times  great  grandmother  also  had  this  strange  biology  and  it  ended  up  being  the  death  of  her.  Her  grudge  and  the  anguish  her  death  caused  hangs  heavily  over  their  family  to  this  day,  and  Izanami  is  afraid  it  might  just  kill  her.

while izanami doesn’t like to rely on stolen techniques she does tend to use or simulate ones that make her look like a normal shikigami user. She doesn’t like people knowing she can make cursed spirits or hybrids or clones. It’s both tactical and because she’s paranoid, if they see her making spirits then start asking questions she might end back up in an experimentation bunker. Or what least that’s her fear.

i feel like given that izanami is part cursed spirit and that part of her is like the cursed spirit of Bad Maternity Vibes™️, if she was a pure cursed spirit she would’ve been a disaster curse as well which makes that whole dynamic even more wild. Like she could’ve been a true peer, instead she’s an untrustworthy ally of convenience with a dead end human job. Best of all the fucking leader of this dog and pony show is the man who put her in a pregnancy saw trap for over a decade.
