It was the last weekend of your break and you had decided to spend the day at Haruhiâs today to cook a little and hang out just the two of you before you both had to go back to school. You knew that youâd be seeing each other in the host club, but it was nice not having to put up a front every now and then and to spend some time together, just the two of you.
Chatting happily, Haruhi and you had just gotten out of the convenience store to buy a few items, some tea and snacks, when suddenly a huge commotion right in front of her apartment complex caught your attention.
âHm? What do you think is going on there?â, Haruhi asked, and you shrugged.
âNo idea. Letâs go check itâŠâ, you began, but your voice got caught in your throat as you spotted the Rolls Royce in front of her building and heard the voices of the passers-by. âWhat is this? Whoâre these rich people?â
âOh noâ, Haruhi and you sighed in unison, looking at each other exasperatedly. You knew what would be coming.
âHow dare they just show up unannounced?â, Haruhi already complained and dropped her grocery store bags, letting her head hang low.
âAre you really surprised, though?â, you asked back, watching the six boys get out of the car. When they got out of the car, you couldnât help but notice how stylish they were dressed for a visit like this, and you sheepishly looked down at yourself. You had just thrown on the first best thing you had found in your wardrobe as it was not only Sunday, but also Haruhi had seen you in every state possible, so you really didnât care anymore how you looked when you went over to her place. You suddenly felt very self-conscious.
This feeling didnât get better when you heard what Kyouya was saying.
âNo, this is whatâs called a âcommonersÂŽapartment complexâ. Haruhiâs place is probably just one of the rooms among these.â
He wasnât wrong, that was exactly what it was, but you couldnât help but wonder what that meant for how their houses must look like. You knew they werenât even looking at your flat, but letâs face it, yours wasnât a lot bigger than Haruhiâs and technically she lived in the better neighbourhood.
You looked at Haruhi, while Tamaki began yelling at Kyouya.
âWe could just make a run for it, Haru, what do you think?â
She held up your groceries. âThese will spoil, though, if we do not refrigerate them.â
âTrue that. Alrightâ, you agreed, accepting your fate. Maybe it could be fun to have them over. It was not like you didnât like seeing them. Just maybe not today, when you really had wanted to talk to Haruhi about what happened on Okinawa. The entire weekend had left you emotionally agitated and you really needed to vent, eat lots of junk food and then argue with Haruhi, who saw everything always way too rational, about everything once again.
Your self-pity got interrupted by Tamaki who was now loudly proclaiming why they were here. âThis is just a nonchalant visit, because we happened to be passing by, and itâs not to research Fujiokaâs standard of living.â You could feel Haruhi become more annoyed with every single word he uttered. âThe words shabby, cramped and run-down are absolutely forbidden.â Every word made you flinch a little in secondhand embarrassment.
âYes, sir!â, the otherâs complied, and you suddenly felt a gaze on you. When you looked up, you noticed that Kyouya was glancing over at you. He had noticed the both of you, but obviously preferred to stay quiet. Typical. Thinking about your phone call, you awkwardly nodded in his direction to greet him, and cursed yourself in the same second for how absolutely stupid that must have looked. You saw a smirk form on his face and quickly you averted your gaze, before you could turn bright red, looking back at Tamaki, who had still not noticed the both of you approaching.
âUnder no circumstances are you to say or do anything that would make them want us to leave.â
âWell, itâs too late for that!â, Haruhi exclaimed, now highly annoyed, snapping you out of your thoughts about Kyouya. âGo away, right now!â
You awkwardly lifted your hand from behind of her to greet everybody. Haruhiâs brows were twitching and you realized she was slightly embarrassed, too. Although probably more of the spoiled rich kids treating her like a commoner in front of all of her neighbours. And yet, all they had to say to this was âThat pink dress is so cute!â You hid your own outfit behind your grocery bag. Not everybody could look as cute as her all the time. Haruhi did not appreciate this comment, though and instead told them to shut up and get the hell out of here.
âHaruhiâs so mad, she actually cursed at us! This is your faultâ, Tamaki immediately began to blame the twins, who did not seem to be realizing that they were part of the problem.
All of a sudden a middle aged woman approached Haruhi. âExcuse me, Haruhi, but is everything alright?â
âOh, Hi Ms. Landladyâ, you and Haruhi greeted her. You had seen her a few times before when you were around.
âThose young men are driving such fancy foreign cars, theyâre not yakuza are they?â
You laughed embarrassedly. âNo, theyâre not âŠâ
She seemed genuinely worried. âDo you want me to call the police for you?â
âWell actuallyâ, you started to think but were interrupted by Tamaki grabbing the Landladyâs hand in his usual flirty manner. âPleased to meet you madam. My nameâs Suoh, Iâm one of Haruhiâs friends.â
âReally?â She blushed. âMy goodness, well arenât you just adorable.â
That was one way to put it. Haruhi stepped back next you.
âAnd heâs got her.â
You nodded. âI canât believe this keeps working.â
<p>After a lot of back and forth you had allowed all six hosts inside Haruhiâs small flat and they were now sitting and standing around the living room, looking and commenting on everything.
You listened to them bicker and sighed, helping Haruhi prepare the tea. This was really not how you had expected your Sunday to go and based on her expression neither had she. âSorry about this, (y/n), letâs talk later, alright?â
You nodded, for some reason, slightly blushing, just in case Kyouya was actually smart enough to know that this was about him. â(Y/n), is this book yours?â You turned around looking at the devil you were speaking of, disassembling the bookshelf one title at a time and accidentally dropping an entire scroll to the floor. You had expected everyone else to make a mess, but him. âYes. But would you please not touch everything?â
You took a deep breath to calm yourself down and turned around. Haruhi had brought the tea to the table and you noticed in awe that Honey had unpacked a generous selection of amazing looking cakes. Your gaze froze on them, they reminded you of the first cake he had given you on your first day and you remembered how delicious that had been. The glee must have been visible on your face, because the older host gently nudged the packaging closer to you.
âHaru-chan and (y/n)-chan can choose first!â, he exclaimed happily and the two of you looked at each other, equally excited about the treat you were about to get.
âAre you sure?â, Haruhi asked, and you stepped closer to get a better look, waiting for the answer. âSure, weâre used to eating that stuff.â You didnât even mind Hikaruâs comment, today you were not going to allow them to spoil your mood.
âWell then âŠâ, Haruhi began thinking for second, âthe strawberry one.â
âAnd you?â, Mori asked looking up at you from where he was sitting.
âHm⊠if itâs alright, I think Iâll take the chocolate one then!â He smiled and nodded.
âI am going to get platesâ, you said and moved over to the kitchen cupboard to get out eight plates and forks, distributing them. Honey carefully placed the cake onto them.
When you turned around again you realized that Kyouya had decided to sit between Honey and Mori and for a split second you wondered if he had done that on purpose. But your suspicions were short-lived, for the prospect of the cake in front of you let you forget everything else.
The oldest host smiled at you and patted the space next to him and you grinned back, positioning yourself between them.
Although you didnât like to admit it, it was a bit crowded in here with eight people and when you sat down you felt your thigh touch Kyouyaâs knee. Yet, he didnât seem like he was going to move in any way. You took a deep breath, trying to ignore the touch of his leg against yours and everything related to that and instead took a bite of your cake. It was heaven. Happily you smiled and didnât notice, that Kyouya was watching you from the corner of his eye, also very aware of the touch of your legs, but a small smile forming on his face nonetheless as he saw you this genuinely happy about something as small as cake. He didn't get to see such genuine joy often.
You just sat around for a while, eating the cake and talking, doing your best to focus on anything but the host next to you, when suddenly someone became peckish.
"After eating that cake, I am a bit hungry", Honey proclaimed and you raised an eyebrow. After the cake? But then again, it was Honey so you were not too surprised. You just wanted to suggest that this must mean they had to leave, when Tamaki and the twins replied, not realizing anything wrong with their utterances. You really liked them, but in moments like this you really wondered how any of them would survive on their own.
"Oh yeah, it's way past lunchtime", Hikaru confirmed.
âIs lunch ready?â, all three then asked in unison.
You took a deep breath. "You guys are another kind of spoiled."
"Yes, could you please stop living in your own world?", Haruhi added, but before anything could escalate again, you felt Kyouya shift next to you.
âNow, weâre the ones who dropped in on you without a warning, so weâll pay.â
Surprised you looked up at him, as he was getting out his wallet. âWhy not order some of your favourite sushi, or something?â, he suggested.
He looked down at you, waiting for a reply. âNo, itâs fine, reallyâ, you said, definitely not wanting to owe Kyouya anything, and Haruhi seemed to have read your mind. âYes, really. Iâm scared of what would happen if I let you treat me.â
âYeahâ, you agreed, but immediately kept thinking. Were you really scared? Part of you wanted to see what actually would happen to you. What he would ask of you and if⊠Quickly you looked back at the table. Enough.
Kyouya however did not react to your declination. Instead, he pulled out a golden credit card. âNot to worry. This comes out of sales of your photos we auctioned off.â
âOf course it didâ, you sighed.
âThen isnât this actually on me?â, Haruhi added.
âAll rightâ, she proclaimed. âI have a friend who runs a nice sushi shop nearby. So Iâll give them a call. Theyâll have some high-quality stuff.â
Tamaki handed her a note and Haruhi was reading it out loud, before throwing it out. "Even if the Sushi pack says 'premium' on it, you can't call it high quality. Be very careful." Haruhi didn't even turn around and just crumpled the paper up into a ball, trying to stay calm. âI know that.â
While Tamaki was having another existential crisis, Haruhi took the telephone, yet, could not even fully type in the number as Honey appeared in front of you, smiling brightly.
âIâd like to have something made by (y/n) and Haru-chan. Breakfast last time was just so delicious.â You smiled at him and somehow you couldn't even be mad. It was really kind of him to say that.
You all agreed that Haruhi and you would cook something and after a lot of back and forth you mentally braced yourself for a supermarket shopping trip with 6 hyped up hosts.
âIâll wait outsideâ, you proclaimed, anxious to get out of the crowded space. You made your way down the stairs first, waiting a few steps away from the stairs to get some fresh air and some calm before you would have to deal with the rich kids in another confined space. You leant against the wall, eyes closed, when suddenly you felt a presence next to you.
âHow have you been, (y/n)?â, he asked and surprised you looked up at him. You had not really expected him to so suddenly appear. And even less had you expected him to actually directly ask you how you were doing. And as if he had read your thoughts he added. âI donât want you to have any remaining injuries that can be traced back to our private property.â Ah, now it made sense. You shook your head and couldn't hold back a small giggle. In return he raised an eyebrow. âWhatâs so funny?â
You shrugged. âI donât know. The way youâre asking if I am alright, I guess.â Kyouya chose to leave this unanswered, and you looked back up at him. By now you had him figured out for the most part, you noticed. You shook your head. âIâm fineâ, you said. âI am not going to sue you. This time.â
âWill be looking forward to the next lawsuit then.â
You scoffed. âJust you wait. Give me a couple more years to save the money for the lawyer and youâre going to be done for.â
A comfortably silence engulfed you for a second, when Kyouya spoke up again.
âActuallyâ, he said, leaning next to you against the wall, while still facing you. âI wanted to talk to you.â
âHm?â He wanted to talk? About what?
âItâs about âŠâ, he started but he didnât get much further, for you heard screaming and a huge bang from Haruhiâs apartment.
âTamakiâ, you said in unison, before making your way back up the stairs to see what was going on.
When you entered the apartment together you did not only see Tamaki on the floor, though, but you realized that you had been so focussed on yourself and Kyouya that you hadn't even noticed Ranka coming home. You assessed the situation, Tamaki on the floor, twins grinning next to him and before you could say anything you were engulfed in a tight hug that obstructed your breathing a little more than would have been comfortable. âAaaah, (y/n), youâre here, too, itâs been quite a while! I missed my second daughter so much!"
âI missed you, too⊠Ranka-sanâ, you managed to get out inbetween breaths, until she finally let go of you. You stumbled a few metres back, and bumped right into Mori, who thankfully stabilized you again.
"It has been way too long since you came to visit! Now come, come let's all sit together and have a little catch up!" When she said this, her gaze was darting between you and Kyouya, followed by a gaze like a dagger in the direction of Tamaki, who let out a gurgling noise, but you all complied.
Again crouched around the table you smiled at her. "So you're the host club, I keep hearing about!" You raised an eyebrow, and looked at Haruhi who just shrugged. 'Keep hearing' sounded like a bit too much information for whatever Haruhi would tell her father, so this was surprising to hear. The mystery was quickly solved though, when Ranka turned to Kyouya and the coin dropped. Of course, if he had been contacting your aunt, of course he had been contacting Ranka as well. You looked at him raising an eyebrow and whereas he did notice your judging glare, he kept his pokerface as usual. While you tried to pry the information out of his motionless features, Ranka continued without missing a beat. "You really are a fine set of boys, I don't know which one of you I want. Right, Haruhi? (Y/n)?" Tamaki was still sulking in a corner, while the rest of the hosts smiled at the compliments her father was giving them. "Oh, you can just call me Ranka-san. Ranka is the professional name I use at the drag bar I am working at!"
"Professional name?", Honey asked, "like a stage name?"
"That's right, Mitsukuni-kun."
"How do you know my name?"
At this point you were glaring daggers at Kyouya, while Ranka was listing the names of all the boys, but he still didn't move a muscle.
"Haruhi told you about us?", one of the twins finally asked, you were too focussed on trying to make Kyouya's face fall to pay attention to which one was speaking.
Finally Ranka admitted it. "No, Kyouya-kun tells me everything over the phone." He did not just act innocent, all of a sudden a smile spread over his face, as he pressed his hands against Ranka's. "You really are beautiful, Ranka-san." The man knew no shame. Everybody was freaking out, and Tamaki grabbed Kyouya, obviously feeling as betrayed about this as you.
"Did you know, (y/n)?", Kaoru asked, apparently realising that you were not as shocked by that as everybody else.
"He called my aunt, too", you mumbled, a little embarrassed that you didn't connect the dots and told Haruhi, too. For some reason it somehow bothered you that he had called Ranka about Haruhi as well, although you knew it was a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Of course you weren't special to him, after all it was just his professionality with these things. You began chewing on your lip and looking at the table top, scratching away a little dirt that had been left from the cake earlier.
You were lost so deep in your own thoughts, ignoring the usual commotion Ranka made, that only Haruhi grabbing your hand and pulling you up with her brought you back to reality.
"Where are you going?", Ranka cried out and you looked at Haruhi just as confused.
"The supermarket." She opened the door and you followed, grateful to be out of the house and away from the hosts for a while. You threw a last glance into the round and noticed Kyouya staring intently at you. He had noticed your shift in behaviour. Quickly you gulped, putting on your shoes to leave the house.
"We are going shopping, by ourselves. We'll be right back, so everyone, please behave yourselves." And with these words you left the flat, ignoring Hikaru yelling after you.
You were grateful that Haruhi had suggested you two should go to the supermarket together. Once outside you took a deep breath, glad about the calm for a second. You knew your pang of jealousy had been stupid, but it felt good being away from the situation nonetheless. Ranka made all that mess, she could deal with the boys for a while. And something told you she didn't mind either.
The walk to the market was comfortable, although you barely spoke about anything in particular. It was a very short walk after all and you mostly listened to Haruhi complaining about the nuisance Tamaki was being. You nodded, thinking about whether or not you should talk about what you wanted to talk about, but decided against it. There wasn't enough time and Haruhi had other worries. So instead you just said, "Thanks for taking me with you."
She smiled her usual sweet smile. "Of course. I felt like you needed a breath of air, too." You nodded, suddenly feeling very at ease again. Sometimes you forgot how well Haruhi knew you. "Come on, let's buy what we need. I will get the veggies and you can get whatever else you like."
You maybe had been at the supermarket for 5 minutes, when you began to spot familiar faces around. Of course. Smiling to yourself you remembered Ranka following you and Haruhi to places ever since. Haruhi never seemed to notice her and you never pointed it out, for some reason. You liked to leave Ranka to believe she was protecting her daughter well and now that she found her perfect replica in Tamaki, you had known it was just a question of time until he would show up here, too. And although you had prefered some calmness, somehow the way they all tried to hide, while simultaneously being overwhelmed by this very normal supermarket made you smile a little. Your gaze followed Honey who was pushed in a shopping cart through the store by more, when you suddenly spotted Kyouya looking at something with actual interest. For a second you hesitated about whether or not you wanted to talk to him, but then you saw him pack several glasses of spicy korean radishes in his cart and you sighed. These rich people.
Kyouya had to admit that he had never spent this much time in a commonerâs supermarket before. The chefs were taking care of meals and groceries, so usually he did not have to worry about food. If he wanted something, someone would bring it to him. Nonetheless, was this a rather interesting experience. He tried to remember some prices, to compare them to the market value later, when something caught his eye. Carefully he picked up one of the glasses and read the inscription. Spicy Radishes, Korean, harvested in Jeju Area. A memory flashed before his eyes, he remembered that he had eaten them a few times before. A korean housekeeper had brought them in a few times when he was a child and she would let him have some, whenever he got a little hungry. He smiled at this memory he had suppressed for so long, briefly wondering how she was doing today, but he quickly shook off such sentimental thoughts. Still his eyes darted back to the pile. Surprised he notice how cheap they were and after thinking for a short moment, he grabbed a few to place them in his cart as well. This all barely cost anything and he couldnât help but be surprised by it. He took another one, when suddenly a well-known voice interrupted him.
âYou like these?â, (y/n) asked, appearing behind him and picking up one glass out of his basket to give it a better look. Surprised about her sudden appearance, Kyouya hesitated for a second, before simply nodding. He noticed her gaze wandering over to the price tag, and she shook her head.
âDonât get them all nowâ, you lectured him, placing the glass back into the shelf.
âBut theyâre so cheap. It is really quite peculiar. Furthermore, I am not sure if I will be back in such a store and the offer is too good, not to âŠâ He got interrupted by her laughter for the second time today. Usually he would be quite annoyed, but for some reason he really enjoyed her laugh. Well, he knew it was because of his silly crush, but he still took a mental note of that.
âTheyâre not even on saleâ, she interrupted, smiling up at him. Her smile was really beautiful. How her eyes closed ever so slightly and her eyebrows moved slightly downwards. He suddenly had to fight the urge to touch her face. âYouâre rich after all, hm?â The smile seemed to falter a little, but only for a split second. Kyouya still noticed it. Yet, she was back to her old self before he could say anything. âYou can buy some now, but Iâll get some for you once they are on sale!â
He looked down at her, not sure what to say, but he nodded, nonetheless.
âCome on. Letâs see what else we can get for lunch!â
His gaze followed her as she vanished behind one of the store shelves, before his look fell back on the glass he held in his hand, carefully placing it back, while smiling to himself. âNot on sale, huhâŠâ He looked at the radishes one last time, before following her, curious what else this commonerâs supermarket had in store.

The next morning you awoke early. You needed a moment to realise where you were, but Haruhiâs steady breathing soon reminded you of everything that happened the day before. You groaned and stretched, before carefully sitting up. Bright sun light shone through the curtains, so you decided you might as well should get up and make some breakfast. You owed everyone as much for scaring them like you did. Quietly you walked into the bathroom. Looking into the mirror you noticed that your eyes were still a little puffy from crying, but that was nothing that a little cold water couldnât save. You brushed your teeth and quickly washed your face, before slipping into your everyday clothes and sneaking downstairs. No one was there yet, and you enjoyed the short moment of calmness, a rare occasion when being anywhere with the host club. You had to admit you probably were relaxed for the first time in weeks, although you knew you also had to thank the six boys for that who were still sleeping upstairs. Silently you checked the fridge and the pantry for food and you actually found almost all of the basics â eggs, rice, flour, sugar ⊠You could work with that. You had just finished heating the pan, when you heard steps coming down the stairs into the kitchen. You turned around to see who it was, after you had poured the first load of dough into the pan. âMori-Senpaiâ, you greeted. âGood morning!â You smiled at him and he smiled back. âGood morning.â He stepped closer to see what you were doing. âI am making breakfast, I thought it was the least thing I could do after ⊠after yesterday.â You carefully flipped the pancake, before turning towards him, as you noticed something. âI never really thanked you properly, but⊠well, thank you. Really.â You looked him in the eyes. âFor saving my life. And everything in general, too.â You bowed down as deeply as you could without falling to your knees. He was quiet for a while, but then you felt the weight of his hand on your head as he ruffled your hair. Surprised you looked up into his smiling face. You knew this was his way of saying that it was alright. You smiled up at him. âIf you want to you can sit down, Iâll bring the breakfast out in a bit.â âLet me help you.â âButâŠâ, you started but he shook his head. âPlease.â You chuckled and gave in. If he said he wanted to help, thatâs what he wanted to do. You always enjoyed Moriâs simplicity in this regard. âAlright! You can make some pancakes if you want to? Theyâre mostly for Honey-senpai and the twins whenever they wake up!â Mori nodded and took the spatula from you. The rest of the morning was spend in a comfortable silence, only interrupted by you giving Mori some cooking tips and asking which vegetables and leftovers he wanted in the soup.
Proudly, Mori showed you the big stack of pancakes he had just made, and you gave him a thumbs up. âAmazing! Now we just have to wait for âŠâ âI smell pancakes!â You almost flinched as you heard the older hosts voice behind you. When did he get up? Had he been awake this whole time? Slowly you turned around, looking into his happy face. âWe made some for breakfast, I had a feeling youâd like themâ, you said, trying not to be freaked out by his weird sense of smell for sweets. âYay!â, he proclaimed, âLetâs set the table, so we can eat!â You nodded and handed Honey a stack of plates, when suddenly Mori stepped in front of you, grabbing your chin with one hand and lifting your head to look at him. You felt the heat creep onto your cheeks at his touch. âM-Mori-senpaiâ, you stammered, but then he lifted his other hand and gently wiped something of your face with his thumb. His fingers felt warm on your face and his touch was soft. A lot softer than how Kyouya had touched you yesterday. With wide eyes you stared up at him. âFlourâ, he explained and immediately you understood and relaxed your shoulders again. âOhâ, you said, but before you could react any further, two very well-known voices appeared next to you. âHey hey, are we interrupting something?â Immediately, Mori let go of your face as if he had been burnt by it. Hikaru appeared next to his brother. âIs there a secret kitchen party and we havenât been invited?â You rolled your eyes. âYeah, huge kitchen party, too bad, youâre late.â âHeyâ, Kaoru started poking your cheek. âThatâs meanâ, Hikaru said, poking the other one. âYou know meâ, you shrugged, âmean to the core.â âHave you made breakfast?â, they realized at the same time. âYes.â âBut why? âYeah, thereâs maids for that.â âWell, there are no maids here as you can see.â âWell, then thereâs deliveryâ, Hikaru shrugged, and you waited for Kaoruâs response but instead he smiled down at you. âThanks.â Hikaru sent him an irritated gaze, but you beamed up at him. âYouâre welcome, now go, go, set the table if you want to eat!â âDo we have to?â, they groaned in unison, but a raised eyebrow from you was enough to get them to move. You shook your head, watching your friends set the table and a weird sense of security and happiness washed over you. It weirdly felt like home. Just⊠safe. Although a few people were still missing. Smiling at the view, you saw Tamaki and Haruhi walk down the stairs, bickering again, but stopping as they saw the almost fully set breakfast table. â(Y/n) have you done all this?â, Tamaki asked, but you shook your head. âI had some help.â You smiled at Mori. âYou could have woken me up, I would have helpedâ, Haruhi protested, but you shushed her quickly. âThatâs exactly, why I didnât wake you! You deserved some rest.â You looked around. âWell, Kyouya-senpai is still missing.â You checked your watch. âI better go wake him up.â Suddenly you felt the gaze of all the hosts on you. âBetter donât do thatâ, Hikaru said. âNot if you want to liveâ, Kaoru finished. âWhat do you mean?â âKyouya has the blood type ABâ, Tamaki explained, but you still were a little confused. âSo?â âKyouya really doesnât like to be woken upâ, Honey said, while already stuffing his face with his first pancake. âYou are not the one to talkâ, Mori solely commented on his cousinâs utterance, but since you also could not really place this, you just sighed. âAh, come on, guys, it canât be that bad ⊠right?â âTry it at your own riskâ, the twins said, shrugging, while already sitting down at the breakfast table and you gulped. âWell, I think he is going to be angrier, if we let him sleep and we miss our car back, so I guess Iâll⊠try my best.â But you had barely finished the sentence, when you were already beginning to doubt your idea.
Carefully, you made your way up the stairs and turned to the left where you knew Kyouyaâs room was located. You knocked carefully, but didnât get a reply. You knocked again. Still nothing. You gulped heavily and decided to go in. Once you had stepped inside your eyes needed a moment to adjust to the darkness and suddenly you werenât so sure anymore of what you were doing here. You had entered Kyouyaâs room without his permission, to wake him up, also without his permission. Even morning people would have every right to be pissed at you and he apparently was the complete opposite of a morning person. Biting your lip you questioned why you were here again and thought about simply turning around, it was not too late to just leave again, but then you remembered the feeling of seeing everybody help out in the kitchen. And how happy that had made you. And how much you had noticed Kyouyaâs absence in this moment. A part of you really wanted him to be part of this memory. Maybe it was foolish, but now that you were already inside his room you decided there was no going back. You took a deep breath, and carefully stepped closer to his bed. You looked at his sleeping face and couldnât help but notice how relaxed he looked. You smiled a little to yourself. His hair was messy from sleep and he seemed unusually relaxed. He was always so composed, seeing him in this state was highly unusual, but you had to admit that you liked it. The messy hair was weirdly attractive. You swalled down the lump in your throat and knelt down beside him. âKyouya-senpaiâ, you whispered, but he still didnât move. âKyouya-senpaiâ, you tried again, this time a bit louder. You sighed. This was not working. You stood back up again, and carefully moved his shoulder. âKyouya-senâŠâ But this was as far as you got, for in the next second you felt Kyouyaâs grip on your wrist that had just tried to shake him awake. The sudden pull of his touch made you fall over. Your upper body collided with his and your faces were just inches apart from each other as you now stared into his eyes. The usual brown-greyish colour had turned black and you felt a shiver run down your spine as he looked at you. âFirst you wonât let me sleep and now you wake me early in the morning?â His voice was ice cold. Wait, not let him sleep, what have you âŠOh no, you must have woken him up last night with your crying. Immediately your face went bright red, thinking that he had heard your absolute breakdown. Your mouth went dry and your thoughts went blank. How much had he heard? Had he heard you cry? Had he heard anything at all? You felt your cheeks grow hot with embarrassment. You felt his chest moving with his chest against yours, his fingers burning into your wrist and you were way too aware of the warmth radiating from him. You tried to think of something to say, anything. You wanted to apologize for waking him both yesterday and today, but you realized you were close enough to smell the faint scent of cedar and lavender that always seemed to surround him and it clouded your thoughts. All you could perceive was the warmth of his skin against yours and how close his face was. This was getting really weird, you had to say something, anything to make this better. Just apologise, (y/n), apolo ⊠âI made breakfast.â You slapped yourself internally, but nothing else would come over your lips. You swallowed hard and looked down at him. His eyes seemed to regain a bit of colour, although, he had still gripped your wrist tightly and seemed slightly murderous. âYou⊠made breakfast?â, he asked back. âYeah.â ââŠâ ââŠâ âYou wake me up ⊠to tell me you made breakfast.â âYeah.â He seemed to think for a second, before you could feel his chest begin to vibrate with a low chuckle. âYou made breakfastâ, he repeated again and finally let go of your wrist. Right away you scrambled back up to your feet, although you were immediately missing the warmth. Kyouya sat up and looked at you. It was impossible for you to guess what he was thinking. He still radiated a slight murderous spirit, but at least he didnât seem like he wanted to decapitate you on the spot anymore. âIâll be right down.â
Trying to steady your breath you made your way back down the stairs, your legs a little wobbly from the second close call with death in the last two days and only now noticed that all the other hosts, including Haruhi had gathered at the foot of the staircase, looking up at you expectantly. Before you could react, you found yourself in Tamakiâs embrace. âOh, (y/n), you canât imagine how glad we are that you are alive and well!â You blinked a few times. It had been scary, but now he was overdoing it. âI am fineâ, you tried to get out between him squeezing you, and it took the help of both twins to peel him away from you. âYou donât look fineâ, they observed and you realized, that you probably still were blushing quite heavily. They seemed to mistake it for fear. âNo worries, (y/n)-chan! Youâre safe now!â, Honey assured you with a serious gaze. âAnd now sit down and have breakfast with us! A few pancakes will help you get better!â
It didnât take long for Kyouya to come downstairs, neatly dressed and styled as always. It was as if he was a completely different person. âGood morningâ, he wished everyone at the table and they responded. âGood morning, (y/n)â, he said to you in particular, his voice cold, and you knew he was still mad at you for waking him up. âGood morningâ, you mumbled back. You had just gotten up to get Honey a few more pancakes, and immediately made your way back into the kitchen to grab another bowl of rice, a miso soup and some of the fish from yesterday you had been frying up again. You placed them one by one in front of Kyouya who looked at you with an unreadable gaze. âI said I made breakfastâ, you mumbled, and shrugged, avoiding eye contact. âAnd I remember you once said you donât really like sweet stuff, so I made something savory, too.â Kyouya didnât reply and you didnât dare to look into his face so you made your way back to your seat to finish your own breakfast. You tried to ignore him, but somehow you caught your gaze wandering back towards him, eyeing the food in front of him suspiciously. You knew it tasted fine, you had had some yourself and Mori had also told you itâs delicious, so you werenât sure why you were so worried about what Kyouya might think about it. You chewed on a bite of rice, and acted as if you were listening to something Haruhi was telling you, but actually you were watching the dark-haired host from the corner of your eyes, curious about how heâd react. You watched him separate a piece of fish and put it in his mouth. He halted for a second and looked at you, almost surprised. Your gaze met his for a second, but he immediately averted his gaze and focused it on the food again. You had to turn back to Haruhi, so that she wouldnât realize that you hadnât been listening to a word she said, but you could have sworn that you had seen a small smirk on Kyouyaâs face, as he took a second bite and somehow this made you irrationally happy.
Kyouya for his share did not remember when he had last eaten a homecooked meal like that. Trying to show as little emotion as possible, he nonetheless gladly realized that she seemed to be feeling better. A small smile played on her lips now and he watched her talk and laugh with the other hosts. That sight might have even been worth getting woken up for. Might.

Whatâs in it for me?
Chapter 7/?
Chapter 1Â Â Â Â Â Masterlist
Pairing: Kyouya Ootori x Reader Author: see-the-fandom-imagines  Warnings: If you were uncomfortable with the Okinawa beach episode, continue with care. Lightly implied SA/abuse in general, fainting A/N: This was again slightly inspired by the live action! Well except for the heart to heart with Tamaki, I felt like he really needs some more attention here. Next chapter will be a bit more free from the show again :) Hope you like it <3 Tag List: @radical-bunny

You had been checked thoroughly by a very nice doctor who had told you that youâd be fine, you just should try to rest a little tonight. You had a few scratches and were mostly exhausted, but that was about it. Half an hour later she let you go into your room to change into a dry set of clothes and now you sat at dinner with the other hosts. The probably most awkward dinner of your life. Slowly you put a bit of crab in your mouth, watching Haruhi scarf down crab leg after crab leg after⊠She was mad at Tamaki for having yelled at her earlier apparently, while you were seeing the doctor. âI canât believe, you behave like thisâ, Tamaki said, looking at her and you were actually surprised to see him noticeably angry. âYou should have called us from the start, but instead you put yourself in danger.â You gulped heavily. Haruhi hadnât told them that you had had a panic attack and you were thankful for that. But you also felt really guilty. She had just tried to help you. âI donât think Haruhi did anything badâ, you said, but immediately regretted speaking up, as the hosts now looked at you. âSorryâ, you mumbled, returning to your crab. âIâm going to bedâ, Tamaki decided, asking Kyouya to show him his room, who got up sighing and followed, leaving you and Haruhi alone with the twins and senpais. You sighed, placing down your cutlery. Suddenly Haruhi spoke up. âMaybe we should learn Karate or something.â âSo thatâs it, he got to you, huh?â, the twins replied in unison. âWell it wouldnât hurt to learn martial arts or somethingâ, Hikaru continued. âBut itâs not like we are forcing you to learn itâ, Kaoru ended. â⊠but to be honest, you should have thought it true a bit better before trying to fight them on your own. Both of you.â You bit your lip, thinking. You knew they werenât angry and they were right itâs not like you had had any choice or say in that matter. But you had been reckless and you had failed protecting them. You gulped heavily. âI know, I justâŠâ, you began, but didnât really know how to end the sentence. Kaoru noticed and just continued. âAnyhow, you knowing how to protect yourself or not is not the real issue here.â He looked at you and you could see the worry in his eyes. âWe know you just wanted to help and didnât have much of a choice.â âBut to be honestâ, Hikaru admitted, avoiding eye contact with both of you, âwe were all a little worried about how recklessly you acted.â Haruhi looked up surprised and you smiled weakly. You knew you had worried them and all the more thankful you were that they were sitting here with the both of you, admitting it so openly. As bad as you felt for giving them a reason to worry in the first place, a part of you was really happy that you could call these boys your friends. âAbout both of us?â, Haruhi asked. âBut I mean, nothing even happened to me, he just grabbed me and âŠâ Suddenly Honey spoke up, smiling up at Haruhi. âBut you got hurt, too.â âWe were worriedâ, Mori said, looking first at Haruhi and then at you. Haruhi nodded slowly, she really only seemed to understand now. She sighed. âI am sorry, I didnât mean to worry you.â âMe neitherâ, you whispered. âPlease donât be mad at Haruhi. I was just ⊠I panicked and she helped me andâŠâ You felt Moriâs hand on your shoulder and he smiled down at you. Instantly you felt better, and allowed yourself to smile back. âThank youâ, you whispered, but it was loud enough that everyone could hear you. âYou should apologise to Tamaki, though, Haru-chanâ, Honey chimed in and she nodded. âHe was not really mad, he was just angry, because you didnât see how worried he was.â He was right and you knew it and so did Haruhi as it seemed. Tamaki had not reacted this sharply to you, although you did apologise earlier, but you had an idea why he was feeling more strongly about your friend. âYouâre right", she finally said, âI should do that⊠Will you be alright?â You nodded. âGoodnight, Haruhi!â âGoodnightâ, she smiled back and made her way up the stairs, leaving you with the rest of the hosts. âI am also sorryâ, you said, bowing your head a little, but then you felt Moriâs hand ruffle over your hair. âWe are just glad youâre okayâ, Honey smiled and you smiled back. You took a deep breath, suddenly you felt a lot better.
Lost in thoughts, you wandered through the hallways, looking for your room in which you technically already had been once, when suddenly you collided with something, or rather someone. You felt two hands grab your wrists, to keep you from falling and looked up into the face of none other than Kyouya. âAh, sorryâ, you mumbled, remembering how mad he had seemed when he had pulled you to the doctor. You felt weirdly embarrassed about the situation and tried to free your wrist from his grip, but he didnât let go. Surprised you looked up at him and only now you realized that he was in fact not wearing a shirt. Immediately, you started blushing. This was absolutely not helping the situation. Kyouya stared at you for a few seconds, and you tried to figure out what he was thinking, but you could not read his expression at all. All of a sudden he moved in a swift motion, pressing you against the wall, pinning both of your arms up above your head with his right hand, stabilizing himself with his other hand next to your head. He closed the distance between your faces until the tip of his nose almost touched yours. Confused you looked straight into his dark eyes, and you noticed your heart beating faster. You thought back to last week, when he was trying to convince you to teach Kaoru, but this time his whole energy had changed, especially compared to the rest of the day. He was so different from how he had behaved earlier. He had been cold, almost rejecting after what happened. The entire dinner he had practically ignored you. Now you could feel the warmth radiating from his bare chest, his eyes focused on you, and you were unable to look away, the touch of his hands and the closeness of his body making you almost dizzy. His closeness was intense and it made a shiver run down your spine. âKyouyaâ, you muttered, and felt your heart beat quicken in your chest, but he interrupted you, before you could say anything else. âYou thought you could fight those guys, why arenât you fighting me.â His voice was husky and made the hair on your neck stand up. He was right. You were in the same position as earlier, but it was different â this time you didnât panic. It didnât smell like alcohol and most importantly you didnât feel like you were in danger. His grip on your wrists was not painful, it was warm, the closeness of his face didnât feel threatening. To your shame you had to admit that you enjoyed it a little. For a millisecond you felt the need to press your lips against his, but fought it. He was right. But you couldnât help but feel safe with him. âCause youâre my friendâ, you simply answered, not moving an inch. âAnd you wonât hurt me.â Kyouya scoffed. âHow can you be so sure?â He reduced the distance between your faces even more, his cheek stroke yours as he was whispering in your ear, much like he had done a few days before. âI am a man. You are a woman. You gave us all a big scare, donât you think you owe me? Tell me, why should I stop this?â Your head went a bit dizzy at the closeness, his voice in your ear made your breath hitch. You closed your eyes to try to calm yourself, but there was no way denying how much you enjoyed his closeness, his scent, his warmth. A part of you wanted to say that there was no reason for him to stop, that he could do to you whatever he wanted, but you knew that this was definitely not an option. So instead, you tried to act calm and shrugged. If you were certain of one thing, than that he wouldnât hurt you. âI trust youâ, you said, surprised about your own words. But you werenât lying. You knew Kyouya always acted like he would kill if it would just benefit him enough, but in reality that wasnât the truth. You realized that although the closeness to him got your heart beating, at the same time you felt absolutely safe. It wouldnât be much like him to take advantage of you like that, and as that thought crossed your mind you finally realized what he was trying to do. âYou are not going to hurt meâ, you said again, this time fully convinced and able to access your brain again. You remembered how he had pulled you to the medic earlier, how he had shivered for a second, not being able to look at you. âYou always act like you donât care, but I think you do.â âDo I?â, he asked and his warm breath made you shiver again. You nodded. âYes, back then with Tamaki. And today with Haruhi. And that you insisted I see a doctor. AlsoâŠâ and admitting this part made your chest ache a little, but you knew it was the truth, âthere is nothing in it for you ⊠doing this to me.â It was silent for a few seconds, when Kyouya all of a sudden began to chuckle slightly, he was close enough to you that you could feel the vibrations in his chest, and you had to take a deep breath as you heard it this close to your ear to pull yourself together again. âIsnât there? I am a guy after all.â He backed off a little, his lips wandering from your ear back to your lips, again, close enough that you would have only had to move a little to kiss him. You knew you should be scared, but that dark chuckle did something to you and all of a sudden, a part of you hoped he wouldnât just let you go. âYou tell meâ, you replied, staring straight back into his eyes. He stared back. You felt his breath on your face, and you tried your best to keep a straight face. The tension was strong and for a second you could have sworn he moved even closer, but you were sure you had imagined that, for in the next second he pulled away from you rather quickly. Your arms fell lifelessly to your side and you looked up at him. You immediately missed his warmth, but what happened next fully made up for it. His gaze softened a bit and for the first time you saw him laugh. Not just smile, or smirk, or chuckle, but really laugh. And your heart felt like it was bursting. If you had thought he was handsome before, you had to admit that his laugh was the most beautiful thing you had ever seen. Your heart beat faster as you realized that he was laughing at you, but you didnât mind. You wanted him to laugh like this again, you wanted to be the reason for it. And while you watched him laugh, almost mesmerized, Haruhiâs words forced their way back into your mind. Could it be⊠that you like Kyouya? Goddamnit. You had thought it was just a crush. Just physical attraction. But in this moment, seeing him like this, feeling the warm fuzzy feeling his laughter gave you, you realized that you had fallen head over heels for Kyouya Ootori. That was probably not good. He calmed down again, shaking his head at you. âYou really are somethingâ, he whispered, leaving your question unanswered, before putting on his shirt and only now did you realize something. You would have felt worse for not noticing before, but letâs be fair, he ignored you for half the evening and in the last few minutes your mind had been occupied otherwise. âWhat happened to your glasses?â, you asked, and Kyouya, who had been about to turn around stopped in his tracks. âI lost themâ, he simply said, lifting his hand as he walked away from you, leaving you standing in the hallway. âIâm going to show the others their rooms. Goodnight, (y/n).â âGoodnightâ, you whispered as you turned around, the lack of his warmth making you shiver slightly. Your wrists felt cold without his touch, and his laughter was still ringing in your ears. Sighing you decided to turn around as well to look for your room and to think about what you had just come to realize.
â
As Kyouya walked away, he, too, took a deep breath and stopped, right before he reached the top of the stairs. He turned around to watch her vanish behind the corner to the hallway where your room was located. He had acted coolly as always, but the truth was, that his heart was beating a little bit stronger than normally, and adrenaline had filled him as he had pushed her against the wall. He thought about her flushed cheeks, the feeling of her body against his. The way he had noticed her breath hitch in her throat, and the feeling of control. In this moment she had been at his will and he had liked it a little more than he wanted to admit. What happened to your glasses? Scoffing, he moved his hand into the pocket of his trousers, pulling out his broken glasses.
â(Y/N)!â, Kyouya shouted, running up the hill and without hesitation, taking off his glasses, throwing them to the ground. He was just about to jump in after her, as Mori overtook him, diving in seamlessly. He stopped, breathing heavily and looking down at where they both had just vanished. Fuck, he cursed, looking for any sign of the two of the two. He knew Mori was more trained than him, so he let it go, sure that the other host would get her out the water safely. His hands were balled to fists and he shivered, jaw clenched, as he looked after them both for another second, when he saw Moriâs head pop-up. He was holding her safely and Kyouya took a deep breath, before turning around again to look for his glasses. He found them on the rocky ground, only a few steps away and noticed that they had broken. He exhaled deeply, trying to calm himself down, and turned around to see Hikaru and Kaoru throw fists at the guys who had did this to her and he didnât stop them. He would make sure that they never did something like this again. He sent a last glance at Haruhi and Tamaki, who were kneeling a few metres away, Tamaki worrying about Haruhi who had gotten shoved by the second man, making sure everything was taken care of, before he turned away and took off, running down the cliff. At the same time he already took out his phone, and immediately called the family doctor. Once he had reached the bottom of the cliff, he watched Mori gently carry the girl out of the water and in this moment he could feel a strong disliking for the taller host, holding her in his arms like this, but he quickly pushed that feeling away. As he got closer he noticed that she was unconscious and all thoughts he had had before were overshadowed. Kyouya ran towards them, his mind clouded, a single thought repeating in his head over and over again, the only thing that mattered right now was (y/n). Please wake up. Her unconscious form made his chest ache as he watched Mori place her down in the sand carefully, and without knowing what actually had come over him, Kyouya immediately dropped to his knees next to her, taking her in his arms, carefully shaking her. He only saw her, the only thought in his head was that she had to open her eyes, he had to see those (e/c) eyes look at him again, but she didnât react and fear began to fill his chest. He didnât notice the other hosts surrounding and watching him, unsure of what to do. Haruhi had followed, too, and he noticed her kneeling down next to him, but he didnât pay any more attention to her. The fear was consuming his usually so controlled mind. She had to wake up, what had she been thinking. Kyouya took her face in his hands, again shaking her carefully, trying to wake her up. âHey, wake up!â, he shouted, his voice breaking slightly, but he didnât care. âHey! (Y/n)!â He stroke her cheek, slapping it lightly. He had promised to protect her. âHey!â Finally she coughed and a wave of relieve washed over him. He noticed he had been holding his breath and exhaled, suddenly being very aware of the situation he was in. Carefully he let go of her, watching her wake up. He blinked a few times, trying to realise what just happened and getting his mind back in order. She was breathing that was all that mattered right now. Quickly he got up, pulling away from her as if her touch was burning him. He was embarrassed for losing control like this, angry at the men who had done this to her, glad she seemed to be alright, and he was suddenly too aware of the other hosts watching him. Quickly, he stepped out of the circle, positioning himself behind the other hosts, trying to get back his cool again and they let him. Silently he appreciated it. He watched, as she opened her eyes, her gaze falling on Haruhi and Mori.
He chuckled, looking at his glasses. âNothing in it for me, huhâ, he murmured, thinking about the feeling of your skin against his. âMaybe I am the strange one. Even if thereâs nothing in it for me.â He put the glasses back into his pockets and walked down the stairs to show his friends to their rooms.
â
You sighed, tossing and turning in your bed. Haruhi was sleeping soundly beside you. Earlier the evening you had found her blindfolded in a room with Tamaki and although you did have to laugh about the comments of the other hosts, seeing her with him made you feel irrationally happy. Seems like Kyouya had been right. Tamaki had won the game. And he won it in the best way possible. Afterwards you had offered Haruhi to sleep in your room at least for as long as the thunderstorm was still going and she had gladly accepted. The two of you had slept in the same bed often enough, so you knew that she would feel safer with you than on her own. Once it had died down, she had fallen asleep almost immediately. You smiled to yourself. You knew how exhausting fear was. Even more frustrated were you that you just could not fall asleep. Still, so much had happened today and you just couldnât stop your mind from racing. From falling off the cliff to Mori-Senpai saving you to Kyouya pulling you to the doctor ⊠To what happened earlier in the hallway. Your heart began racing again and you pressed your face into your pillow. God damnit, Haruhi, did you really always have to be right about everything? Latest after this incident you couldnât deny it anymore. You had a major crush on the raven-haired host and you didnât know what to do about it. It was out of the question that he liked you, too, not Kyouya. And even if he would, then he still was a rich company heir and you were, well⊠you. But there was no way he actually liked you. He treated you way too coldly for that. You sighed and with a last glance at Haruhi you decided to get up and walk around for a bit.
Silently you opened the door and slipped out, walking down the stairs and out the main door, careful not to wake anyone up. The ocean air, cooled down by the storm, hit your face and you took a deep breath in. Carefully you closed the door behind you, when you noticed a figure sitting on the steps of the porch, looking towards the ocean. Blonde hair shimmering in the moonlight. Tamaki turned around when he heard you close the door. âOh, (y/n), did I wake you?â His eyes went big and you could see the worry on his face. Quickly you lifted your hands. âOh, no no, I just⊠couldnât sleep. Itâs been a long day.â Tamaki nodded and smiled. âIt was indeed.â It was silent for a moment, before you decided to speak up again. âMay I sit with you?â âBut of course!â He scooched to make room for you and you sat down on the step beside him. You shivered a little. It was colder than you had anticipated. âAre you cold?â Tamaki had noticed it almost immediately and before you could protest he draped the cardigan he had been wearing until now over your shoulders. âBut âŠâ, you wanted to refuse, but he shook his head. âI am fine.â You nodded and accepted the warmth his cardigan gave you. You knew he did these things without having ulterior moves. Much different from Kyouya. You rolled your eyes internally. You had never been alone with him until now and you realized and you didnât really know how to react or what to say. Thankfully, Tamaki was a rather chatty fellow by nature. âSo, how are you feeling?â, he asked and you could see the genuine worry in his features. âI am fineâ, you said, âand I am sorry again. I just froze, IâŠâ, you started, but the big lump that had formed in your throat kept you from talking. You tried to take a deep breath, when suddenly you could feel hot tears stream down your face. You were surprised yourself, but it seemed that all the pent-up emotions were making their way out now. âHey, itâs alright, itâs alrightâ, Tamaki tried to soothe you and you felt his arm around your shoulders, pulling you into a tight embrace. At first you thought about pulling away, but you were simply too tired and you knew that Tamaki just wanted to help you, so you let it happen. âI⊠am ⊠so ⊠sorryâ, you managed to get out in-between sobs, feeling his hand draw circles on your back to calm you down. âI thought ⊠I was over this, but âŠâ Heavy sobs made you stop again and Tamaki let you cry. After a while you calmed down enough to pull away from him, wiping your tears away with your hands. âI am sorryâ, you whispered. âI donât know what got into me, itâs just⊠the man today reminded me of someone and I ⊠I panicked. And I got Haruhi in trouble and you all worried.â Tamaki shook his head, smiling at you kindly. âYou didnât do anything wrongâ, he reassured you. And after a small pause he added: âAnd⊠I donât know what happened to you, but whatever it is, I am entirely sure that it wasnât your fault.â You were close to break out into tears again, which he seemed to notice so he quickly kept on talking. âI do still think you should have tried to get help, but ⊠you were really brave up there.â You smiled back weakly. âThank youâ, you whispered, and scanned his features. Tamaki was so much more than you had thought him to be at first. He was loud and obnoxious, but you could tell he had been through quite a lot, even though you did not know yet what it was. And he was without a doubt one of the kindest people you had ever met. âTamaki-senpai, thank you for earlier. For taking care of Haruhi.â His eyes widened in surprise, but then the smile returned to his face. âOf courseâ, he said, this time entirely serious. âYou knowâ, you started, feeling his gaze on you, glad you could shift the topic a little away from yourself. âIn middle school it was always just Haruhi and me. I mean not just. There were other kids we would spend time with every now and then, but ever since I met her back then ⊠I could fully rely on her, you know?â You reminisced a little about that time. âI had just moved to the area with my aunt and I didnât know anybody⊠We had to move becauseâŠâ Your voice broke and Tamaki did not push you. He patiently looked at you, waiting for you to move on in your story. âWell, we had to move. I felt so alone and I was really scared on my first day, but HaruhiâŠâ You looked at Tamaki and smiled at the memory. âHaruhi was just her usual self, you know? I had been sat next to her and she almost immediately noticed how scared I was. She introduced herself to me and offered me some of her lunch. And from then on, she was my best friend.â Tamaki smiled. âThat does sound like our Haruhi.â You nodded. âShe has been like family to me, you know? I never had a sister, but she is the closest thing I have. I used to stay whole summers with her and her father and we always had a great timeâ, you let your voice drift off and thought for a while before continuing. âSo, when she went to Ouran ⊠I must admit I was a little scared at first.â You had said these words out loud for the first time and only now you realized how true they were. Tamakiâs eyes widened. âScared?â âYesâ, you admitted, a little surprised yourself. âI was scared she would find other friends or a boyfriend and completely forget about me. I know itâs stupidâ, you added quickly. âHaruhi would never do that. But you know, worry isnât rational. And thatâs why I am so happy that she found you.â You looked back at Tamaki and could see the faintest blush build on his face. â(Y/n)âŠâ, Tamaki whispered and you nudged him. âSpeechless?â âHonoured.â Your smile dropped, because now it was on you to look surprised. He spoke on. âThank you for telling me all this. And I am very happy you joined our club, too. And I am certain everybody thinks the same. We are happy to welcome both of you in our family.â You smiled at the older boy. âThank you, Tamaki.â You had never talked with him in private, but the more you got to know him the more you realized what a great person he was. You couldnât wish for anyone else to be in Haruhiâs life. âWell thenâ, he said and got up, âI think, we should try to get some sleep.â He offered you his hand and you took it, allowing him to help you up. You wiggled out of his cardigan and gave it back to him, while you both stepped back into the house. âGoodnight, Tamaki-senpai. And⊠again, thank you.â âAnytime, princess. Now sleep well.â
â
Kyouya lay back down on his bed, arms crossed and thinking about what he had just heard. He hadnât meant to eavesdrop, initially he had just wanted to tell Tamaki off and tell him to be quiet, but when he walked over to the window, he couldnât help but overhear her voice. His blood had frozen a little as he had realized she was crying, and he had felt the sudden urge to run downstairs to see what was going, but he had been aware that he could not just barge into their conversation like this. He had no right to do that. He had wanted to move away, go to bed, telling himself she was alright, she was not alone, but he couldnât help himself, he could not just leave, knowing she was upset. He had cursed himself, but there was nothing else he could have done, so he had just stood there, at the window, waiting for her to stop crying. Rarely had he felt as useless as in this moment. He tried to convince himself of how stupid this thought was, she was taken care of, he could just go to sleep. But still he needed to make sure himself, that she was alright, before he could go to bed. Haruhiâs voice echoed inside his mind, but he shook his head, pushing that thought away again. While he leaned against the window frame, waiting for her to calm down, he thought about earlier. About how he had lost control once today already, when she had fallen down that cliff. How his thoughts kept circling back to her, even if he tried to actively think about anything else. Slowly she had seemed to calm down again and began to speak. Kyouya still hadnât move. What did she mean, when she said they âhad to moveâ. Could this be the reason she lived with her aunt? He knew he could find out, but he had felt from the start like this was something she needed to tell him herself. Intruding into her private background this much felt wrong. After all and despite everything he was not just some stalker, so he hadnât done more than a simple background check on her like he did with everybody and he planned on keeping it that way. He never dug deeper than he had to, unless the situation required it. Yet, he had to say he was utterly curious about her past. Curious and at the same time nervous to find out more. He sighed, staring at the ceiling. He noticed his heart rate quicken as most times when he began to think too much about her and he felt a warmth in his core, thinking about the feeling of her skin against his. He just couldnât get this girl out of his mind. This commoner girl that he just couldnât fully figure out. He scoffed at himself and finally slipped under the blanket, turning on his side to turn the lights off. This feeling was new to him, so he didnât really know where to place it yet, but he was really sure about one thing. Based on all the signs and symptoms he had noticed, he seemed to have developed a crush on her. Not that that really had to mean anything. A crush was just a crush, nothing more. It could vanish as quickly as it had appeared, he knew so much, and there was nothing wrong in exploring this feeling a little more. The only thing that worried him, was how much it could throw him off track in the matter of a second. When she had been in danger earlier today he had dropped everything, just to make sure she was alright. Kyouya wasnât quite sure yet how he felt about that aspect of it. He thought about the blush on her face one last time, looking up at him with her (e/c) eyes, before he rested his head on his pillow and closed his eyes.
(I couldnât decide for a gif so have this second one)

Whatâs in it for me?
Chapter 6/?
Chapter 1 Masterlist
Pairing: Kyouya Ootori x Reader Author: see-the-fandom-imagines  Warnings: None at all.  A/N: I struggled a lot to see if I want to put the whole Okinawa beach thing in 2, 3, or 4 chapters and it turned into 3 more or less long-ish ones! None of this is beta-read, as usual, so let me know if you realise any major issues! I hope you like it :) Link to Ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/46325452/chapters/116633701
You couldnât believe they had actually invited you to the sea. Haruhi had told you that they had been in a holiday resort from Kyouyaâs family a few weeks ago, so you really did not have expected to be invited to their Okinawa beach trip. But here you were. Your aunt had been a little suspicious at first, asking why a drama club needed to go to Okinawa â you hadnât had the guts to tell her the actual purpose of the club yet, and letâs face it with all the drama going on you were technically not lying â but you had managed to convince her in the end, saying something about how you and Haruhi helped out behind the stage to make her believe you, as she was well aware that neither you nor Haruhi were really talented actresses. Something told you that Kyouya also had something to do with the fact that you had been allowed to go, he probably had promised her to keep her updated on everything, but you didnât care. The beach was the beach and you really needed a little vacation after the last couple weeks. Although vacation was a strong word. You blinked a few times, the sun in the blue sky blinding you, while you kept handing out drinks to the girls, smiling slightly, while trying not to spill anything. This is not how you had imagined this trip to go. But at least you got to see the ocean. You had always loved it. You had given away the last glass, and let your arm rest for a second, as two girls approached you. â(Y/n)-chan, itâs really nice to see you here, too!â, they said, seeming a little embarrassed and you smiled at them. âYeah, when Kyouya told us, youâd be joining, we immediately signed up.â She blushed. âYes, these two princesses are new members to our host club. When I told them youâd be coming they were very willing to pay our vacation fee.â Your face fell and you turned around to the host that had just appeared behind you, sending you a smile, while writing something up in his notebook. He seemed to be very pleased with all the different ways he managed to profit off of you being on this trip. Typical. You sighed. âWonât you come swim with us?â, one of the girls asked, sending you the broadest smile and forcing you to turn around again. You hesitated. âAh, the truth is, I didnât really bring a bathing suit.â Maybe you would have brought one if Kyouya hadnât told you last second and sent the twins to pick you up straight after school to bring you here. At least they gave you more comfortable summer clothes to change into, but somehow you got the feeling that youâd be charged for these, too. âWell, that isnât a problemâ, the voice of the Hitachiin twins suddenly rang out behind you. âYes, we brought an arrangement of bathing suits forâŠâ â⊠every occasionâ, Hikaru ended the sentence for the younger twin and they grinned at you, already having grabbed you underneath your arms to pull you away, but Kyouyaâs cool voice rang out, stopping them in their movement. âI am afraid that wonât be possible.â âHuh? Why not?â, the twins asked again in unison, turning around with you. You felt a little like a ragdoll, but at this point you were somehow used to it. âBecause she is here to work, not for vacationâ, he turned towards you smiling his ice-cold smile that never reached his eyes. âDidnât you say you wanted to help Haruhi?â Your blood froze in your veins, but you managed to wriggle free from the twinsâ grasp, although they did seem a little disappointed. âIs it really just thatâ, Hikaru started and a smirk grew on his face. âOr are you just jealous, Kyouya?â âYeah, maybe you just donât want other guys to see (y/n) in a bathing suit.â âSheâd look awfully cute, wouldnât she, Hikaru?â âAwfully.â âWell, I guess, he wants her all for himself.â âHow terribly egoistical.â You could feel his gaze on you and you looked up at him. You knew the twins were just teasing, but your cheeks had slightly heated up at their suggestion. Suddenly you remembered the last week.
â(Y/n).â You could hear a voice call your name. â(Y/n), wake up.â Sleepily, you blinked a few times, opening your eyes a little. But when you realized who it was that knelt just a few inches away from you, your eyes widened and you could feel the heat rush to your cheeks. âK-Kyouya-senpai?â Quickly you sat up, needing a second to adjust to the sudden change of position. You felt his hand on your shoulder, to stabilize you and somehow this made everything even worse. âYou fell asleep during club hoursâ, he stated, unnecessarily. You were heavily aware of that. His hand left your arm and you mourned the loss of his touch for a millisecond. Your vision came back and you saw his expressionless face still closer to you than you wanted it. âSorryâ, you mumbled, looking around for your book and bags. Kyouya looked at you for a second, expression unreadable for you, before he got up, shouldering his own back. âCome on, hurry up, I have other things to do.â Quickly you shoved all your things in your school bag and stood up to, walking past him, your face bright red. âSorryâ, you mumbled, and wanted to start your flight, when you stopped in your tracks and sighed. âThank youâ, you added and bowed slightly, fully avoiding his eye contact, before actually leaving as quickly as you could.
You quickly avoided his glance, not ready to face the past embarrassment right now. âSorryâ, you muttered, âIâll go back to get more drinks.â You smiled apologetically at the girls, who smiled at you kindly enough. You heard them talk about you, while walking away and you were glad that they had given you an excuse to leave the situation. â(Y/n) does care so selflessly over Haruhi.â âYeah, she really does.â âKilljoy.â The twins accusing Kyouya was the last thing you heard before you were out of earshot.
âWe are gonna play âFind Haruhiâs greatest fearââ, the twins proclaimed and everybody seemed really into the idea, especially after Kyouya had shown the possible price for the winner. âDid Ranka give you these pictures?â, you asked, eyeing them suspiciously. You had known Haruhiâs dad for a few years now and you knew how much he loved to talk about his daughter. âI like to protect my sourcesâ, he solely smiled, watching the other hosts fawn over Haruhiâs pictures. âTsâ, you just scoffed, ripping them out of his hand. âIf you guys donât mind, Iâll hold onto these.â Kyouya let you keep them, but you were sure he had digital copies of them anyways. â(Y/n)-chan are you gonna play, too?â, Honey asked but you also shook your head and shrugged. âI know what sheâs afraid of. That wouldnât be fair.â Also, you really didnât feel comfortable with revealing her biggest fear to everybody just for a bet. You had found out years ago as she was staying over at your place and had suddenly vanished. Later that night you had found her in your closet. Immediately the twins cornered you. âYou know?â âWell, tell us then!â But you just shook your head, stepping back next to Kyouya. For a change it seemed safe next to him. You had already been abducted twice today, a third time really didnât suit you. âYou wanted to make it a game. Letâs see who wins.â Kyouya raised an eyebrow at you but smiled a little and yo"u tried to suppress the fuzzy feeling it triggered in your tummy. âWell then! Let the games begin.â
Kyouya had generously allowed you to sit down and relax with the girls for the rest of the day and while you were drinking some water, he stopped his writing, watching the other boys trying to find Haruhiâs biggest fear. âSo, who do you think will win?â, you asked, trying to break the silence. He averted his gaze from the twins and turned towards you smirking. âWhat, are you willing to bet?â You scoffed. âOf course, I am pretty confident about this one. But it wouldnât be fair, would it?â âI suppose notâ, he admitted, looking at the huge transporter that had just pulled up on the beach. âWell?â, you asked, looking at him intently. The sun was highlighting the colour of his eyes, as he looked around, analysing the situation. He was in deep concentration, taking in every necessary detail. You just stared at him in slight awe. He really was beautiful you noticed. You knew you werenât supposed to think these things, it was Kyouya after all, but you couldnât help yourself. The way his dark hair contrasted his light skin, the way his face changed completely when he smiled. Really smiled. It didnât happen often, but every now and then something caught his interest and then a real smirk appeared on his face. You were just glad that you had a reason to actually look at him, because otherwise you would have turned bright red, when he turned his head and caught you staring. He placed his right elbow on the table between you, resting his chin on the back of his hand. âTell me firstâ, he said, eyeing you just as intently. You had caught his interest, you noticed slightly proud of yourself, while trying to withstand his intense gaze. âIs there anything Haruhi actually is scared about?â âOf courseâ, you shrugged. âOtherwise, would I ask you, who would win?â He seemed to think a bit, before he chuckled. âI do think you would.â âOnly one way to find outâ, you teased, keeping the eye contact. You were not going to lose this time. âI assume youâre not going to tell me?â, he asked, leaning a little closer toward you, his voice smoother than silk, one eyebrow raised. You had seen that move before, he had used it with some of the girls in the club, usually to make them buy another addition photo album. Nonetheless, your heart was beating a little faster. âYou donât actually think that works on me?â You held his gaze, trying to convince yourself that it actually didnât work on you. He was just too handsome in-between. He chuckled and broke eye contact. âWell, given, that I am not part of the gameâŠâ, he hesitated, but then looked back at you. âTamaki is going to win.â You raised an eyebrow at him. âReally? That guy?â, you said and pointed at Tamaki who was still running away from the snakes he had let loose on himself. âYouâd be surprisedâ, he said, turning his gaze from Tamaki back to you. âSo, who do you think will win?â âEasyâ, you shrugged. âNo one.â Kyouya tilted his head slightly. âSo, you are saying it is impossible to find out?â âWell⊠not impossible, noâ, you said, looking up into the clear-blue sky. âBut very unlikely.â Kyouya followed your gaze and you were wondering if he had understood what you were implying. You knew that he could have won every single game of theirs easily, if he bothered enough to play. It made you wonder about whether he had in fact just let you win last week. He smirked at you, an eyebrow raised. âBut you let them play anyways.â âOf courseâ, you took a sip of your water. âI wanted to see what theyâd do.â Kyouya chuckled again, and you looked at him over the rim of your glass. There it was again. That real smile. When he genuinely seemed to enjoy something. âDonât act like youâre any better than meâ, you teased, but he just shook his head, leaning back in his chair, as well, watching the other hosts run around the beach. âNow, would I ever think that?â You left that question unanswered and took another sip of your drink as you saw Mori approach her with a huge harpoon. Where on earth did he get that?
You were strolling along the beach, enjoying a moment of peace and quiet and the feeling of the ocean air in your hair. You really loved the beach. Always had. You smiled slightly to yourself. Work or not, you were still really thankful they had brought you along. Suddenly you heard someone calling your name. â(Y/n)!â, the girls from earlier called you. They had climbed on top of a small cliff. You smiled up at them. âWill you come up to watch the sunset with us?â You thought for a second, but then decided that there was no reason to reject, so you climbed up the hill and sat down next to the girls. âHave you ever been to the beach?â, one of them, her name was Asuka you had learned earlier, asked, and you nodded. âYes, a few times. When I was younger, my aunt sometimes went with me. I really like the ocean. The smell, the wind ⊠It kind of makes you feel⊠free, doesnât it?â When you were younger you had imagined how the ocean would keep you save, carry you away to strange countries you had never seen before. You smiled at the memory. âOh look, Haruhi-kun is here, too!â, you heard one of the other girls say and wave down to your friend. You didnât understand what Haruhi was replying, though, because from the corner of your eye you saw figures closing in on you. Three men, and they did not look like the friendly type. âWhoa, there are girls up here!â You felt the hairs on your neck stand up as they mustered you. Immediately you got up and stepped instinctively between the group of men and the girls. âLuckyâ, one of them proclaimed, throwing away his beer. You didnât dare to let him out of your sight. âGet behind meâ, you ordered the girls, who immediately stood up, too, and did what you told them to. They were scared. So were you, but it was you against them and it was your job to protect them. Also you were somewhat used to this kind of behavior. âLetâs play together!â Your heartbeat sped up as they got closer, and you could smell the alcohol in the mensâ breath. They were drunk and if you had learned one thing about drunk people that they were unpredictable. Your breath quickened and your vision went blurry. Goddmanit, keep yourself together. You took a deep breath, this was really the wrong moment for a panic attack. But the smell, the smell was so familiar. Your knees gave away underneath you, but you didnât fall, because you felt the strong grip of the guy on your wrists, pulling you up towards him. Fuck, you had reacted to slowly. âIt must be dull, having no one but girls around, huhâ, the guy who held you tightly by your wrists, asked, his face only inches away from yours. You felt sick, but you still couldnât move. Your fatherâs face flushed before your eyes and you were close to passing out again, only the voice of the girls behind you keeping you awake. You took a deep breath and tried to get out of your stupor. You couldnât let them hurt them. âPlease stopâ, Asuka tried to protect you. âThis is a private beach.â But it didnât matter what she said, for you saw from the corner of your eyes, how one of the other guys grabbed her. âWhat so you are rich girls?â You took deep breaths, biting your lip hard to stop the panic from creeping up on you. You needed to protect these girls. You were used to this, they werenât. âStop it!â, you yelled, your voice surprisingly stable, trying to free your wrists but the guy was too strong. In the matter of a second you decided to spit in his face and used the short moment of distraction to kick him in his balls as hard as you could. He let go of you long enough so that you could free your wrists and you turned towards the girls, ready to free them next, but suddenly you felt a hand in your hair, yanking you back painfully. One hand still buried in your hair, he wrapped his other arm around you. You could feel his hot breath against your ear and you smelled the alcohol again. It made you dizzy. âLittle bitchâ, he spat in your ear, pressing you tight against his body. Despite your kick you could feel the erection press against your leg and you wanted to throw up. This sick fuck was actually being turned on by this. You tried to wiggle free once again, but the grip on your hair was too painful. He let go of you with his other hand, forcing you to turn around to him and pushing you backwards a few steps. âYou think you can just kick me like that, huh? You think you can play the little hero.â He let go of your hair, but he was grabbing your wrists again, painfully this time. You tried to step backwards, but stumbled, as you realized there was no more ground behind you. Out of the corner of your eye you saw the cliff ending. The only thing keeping you from falling was the guy in front of you and your breath quickened again. You were scared and you saw how it turned him on. His face came closer to yours again and your vision started to go blurry. It was all too much. The pain, the smell of alcohol, the fear. The fear. The fear. You had felt this way before, one too many times. You thought you had escaped; it had been four years since you had felt this scared, you thought, you had become stronger but instead you felt as helpless as you had felt your entire childhood. âHey!â, you heard Haruhi yell, and the last thing you remembered was the man letting go of your wrist. And if you hadnât been as dizzy as you had been, if you hadnât been panicking this badly, youâd have safely fallen to your knees, but instead, with loosing the grip of the man, you lost balance and fell backwards. You had lost consciousness before you had even touched the water.
You woke up coughing and confused. Breathing heavily, you blinked so that your eyes got used to the sunlight again, and looked into the worrying faces of the host club. Right in front of you sat Haruhi and Tamaki. âThank god, (y/n)!â, Haruhi yelled, but you could barely process it. You felt strong hands helping you sit up and as you turned slightly you realized it was Mori, hair dripping wet. You shivered slightly, realizing that you, too, were soaked. What happened? Haruhi wrapped her arms around your neck, not caring that she got wet. Oh right, the guys, Haruhi had tried to save you. âYouâre alrightâ, you noticed breathlessly, and looked around, âhow are the girls?â âEverybody is fineâ, Tamaki assured you as Haruhi broke the hug to give you some space to breathe. âBut you should rather worry about yourself. Haruhi told us what happened.â âWe took care of these bastardsâ, Kaoru said, both twins noticeable angry. You bit your lip. You had had a panic attack. When it would have been your responsibility to be strong. âHe was drunkâ, you whispered, looking up at Haruhi, hoping she would understand. You felt how you started to shiver again, not from the cold, but from the memory of his breath on your face and felt Moriâs hand gently caress your back. âA doctor will arrive shortlyâ, you heard Kyouyaâs cool voice speak out from somewhere behind you, but when you turned towards him, you realized he wasnât looking at you. Was he mad at you? You turned the other way, to look at Mori, who was still staring down at you with worry in his eyes. His hand felt save on your back and although you knew you shouldnât, you appreciated the touch. It grounded you and made you feel save. They couldnât hurt you anymore. You watched a water droplet dripping from his hair and running down his face. He was the only one who was wet. âDid you save me?â Mori didnât need to respond, you knew that he had. He really looked worried. âThank you, Senpaiâ, you smiled weakly, and he nodded, helping you stabilize yourself as you were trying to get up, when suddenly you felt Kyouyas grip on your arm, forcing you to stand, while at the same time still stabilizing you surprisingly sturdy. âLetâs goâ, he ordered, pulling you with him. You stumbled a few steps, but managed to follow. âThe doctor will be in the house.â You looked back at the other hosts, who just watched you being pulled away and you were wondering why they just let it happen, but you didnât have another choice other than to follow Kyouya. You didnât see his face, as he had turned it away from you, but you followed. âNo worriesâ, you reassured him. âI wonât trouble you because of this. I am fine.â Kyouya stopped walking for a second, taking a deep breath. You noticed he trembled slightly, before he pulled you with him again, grip as steady as it had been before. âFree of chargeâ, he said, still not looking at you. âYou need to be checked. We donât want the Host Club to get a bad reputation of not looking out for its members.â Surprised you blinked a few times but didnât say anything. If you hadnât known better, you would have almost thought he had been worried about you.

Whatâs in it for me?
Chapter 5/?
Chapter 1 Masterlist
Pairing: Kyouya Ootori x Reader Author: see-the-fandom-imagines  Warnings: None at all.  A/N: Let me know if you want to be tagged in the upcoming parts! Or if you want to read sth in particular!
Once you had arrived in the club no one came up to you, for your expression showed everyone not to mess with you today. Breakfast with your aunt had resulted in so many awkward questions that you had left a little early for school, where you had written your second exam of the week. You then had studied for roughly an hour, before you arrived at the club. The exam didnât go amazing and now you knew that you also had to deal with ⊠âKyouya-sama?â One of the girls stepped up to him. âI really liked the video and picture book you sold last week. Do you know if something knew is going to come in? Will it have pictures of (y/n), too?â You cringed at the memory and didnât wait for his reply. Instead, you just stomped over to him, having to somehow get rid of all the pent-up emotions you had built up over the day. âWhat were you thinking?â Kyouya kept a pokerface, although it seemed a little more expressionless than usual. âWe have a guestâ, he said, smiling at the girl who had begun to blush. You sighed. âExcuse meâ, you said to her, âbut I really have to talk to Kyouya-senpai for a second, would that be alright with you?â It took you all your strength to smile, but she nodded, blushing even harder and stepping away to give you some space. âThat was not necessarily polite.â âAnd it wasnât impolite either. She didnât seem to mind.â Silence. âFine Iâll apologise later, but donât think youâre getting out of this conversation. You cannot just call my aunt like this.â Kyouya looked at you, his smile from earlier had vanished now. âIt is my duty as director of this club to keep your parents âŠâ, you avoided his gaze as he used that word, â⊠or legal guardiansâ, he corrected himself, âknow where you are and what you are doing.â You opened your mouth to retort something, but then contemplated whether or not discussing any of this with Kyouya even made sense. Eventually, you determined you were simply too tired. You would get back at him somehow, but now was not the time. Exasperatedly, you sighed and nodded, before you just trotted off to work. There was no use in arguing and what was done was done. This time youâd let him off easy.
âSo whatâ, you heard Kaoru say a little later, slightly annoyed. âSo, I have a bad English grade, it is not the end of the world.â âIt might not be the end of the world, but the principal only allows our club activities to go on if we manage to keep our current grades.â You barely listened. This had nothing to do with you, anyways. Yawning, you calculated how much more cake Honey needed this week, when you heard your name. â(Y/n), will you come here for a second?â Oh no. âWhat is itâ, you asked as you stepped next to Kyouya. You were still a little mad at him for calling your aunt without your permission. Also, you were deadly tired and one more exams scheduled this week and between classes, work and host club you barely managed to study let alone sleep properly. â(Y/n), you have foreign origins, isnât that right?â You didnât even question anymore how he knew that. âSo, your English must be quite good, correct?â He smiled at you sweetly. You sighed. This had nothing to do with any origin, you were absolutely sure he had just somehow managed to check your grades. You knew exactly what he wanted âI really donât have time, I got my own exams and if Kaoru needs help, he can ask me himself. No offence.â Kaoru shrugged as if he agreed with you. Before you turned around you added: âAlso I told you not to use that smile with me.â You walked a few steps, but you could hear how Kyouya had gotten up to follow you.
âWould you mind joining me outside for a second?â His voice was soft, but you could hear the threat lying underneath. This wasnât a question. It was an order. You considered briefly if it would make sense to just make a run for it, but you knew there was no outrunning Kyouya, so you sighed following him outside. Once you arrived in the empty corridor, Kyouya closed the door behind you. You leaned against the wall, too tired to stand without the support while listening to his lecture. He positioned himself in front of you, pushing up his glasses. âAs you know grading is fairly important for our club. As you wanted to help us out, this would be your easiest task so far.â âSo, what if I donât want to do it?â Kyouya scoffed, but a tiny smirk appeared on his face. He wasnât used to anyone talking back at him this bluntly. He seemed to think for a while, but then he lifted his gaze, looking directly into your eyes. Your breath hitched a bit, and you could feel your cheeks turning red. You kept the eye-contact, but your heart began to flutter. Wait, what, no, commando back. Must be the tiredness, you told yourself. The talk with Haruhi must have gotten you all confused. He stepped in front of you, and although he wasnât that much taller than you, he seemed to tower over you. A spark appeared in his eye as he bent down to you. âDo I need to remind you that we have accepted you in the club for a reason?â He almost whispered these words, and a shiver ran down your spine. âAnd that reason is to teach English to your members?â, you tried to keep your calm, but you noticed a slight shiver in your voice. âThat reasonâŠâ, he said, coming a little closer to your ear, âis that you do whatever I tell you to do.â Your breath hitched in your throat. âYou wanted me to be more myself, no?â, he asked lifting his head away from your ear again to study your expression. You tried your best to keep your feisty look, but he knew he had won. And he was right. You had wanted him to be himself. And you were almost embarrassed to say that you enjoyed this moment a little more than you should have. You locked eyes with him. Due to the proximity of his face your gaze flickered over his lips, just for a short second, and you forced yourself to look away again. âGlad we agreeâ, he said, sending you a last smirk, before vanishing again in the Music Room. You stayed outside for three more seconds, trying to calm your heart and breath. Damn you, Kyouya Ootori.
The next day you sat down at one of the tables of the club, next to Kyouya. You had only escaped your aunt due to your diligent studying and her convoluted work schedule. Your last exam was scheduled two days from now on Friday and you actually much rather would be studying at the moment. But you had other duties today. In the end you had to accept the task Kyouya had given to you, but that didnât mean you couldnât still whine about it. âI just donât see what all of this has to do with meâ, you complained, earning you nothing but a strict gaze from Kyouya. A squeezy feeling crept in your stomach as you remembered how he had looked at you earlier. He acted like he wanted Kaoruâs grades to go up again for the club, but somehow you knew that wasnât the only reason he was so adamant about you helping out Kaoru. It were tiny things that betrayed him, but you had come to realise that he cared deeply about his friends in the club. You didnât know a lot about him, yet, but you somehow got the feeling, that there was a lot more to Kyouya than what he showed. Tamaki wanted him to join the club for a reason, after all and you doubted that he would have let someone join who wasnât essentially good at heart. And after all, sometimes Kyouya could actually be actually nice. Sometimes. Somewhere deep inside. His cold gaze met yours. Deep, deep inside. âYou just want me here toâŠâ, you started again, but got distracted as Hikaru sat down at your table, school bag in hand. Confused you looked at him. âWhat?â, he asked. âIâm ready to study some English.â âYou want classes, too?â, you asked, looking at him, completely having forgotten about Kyouya for a second, who was watching what unfolded in front of him. âWhat do you mean, tooâ, he said, getting out Kaoruâs notebook. âIâm supposed to teach Kaoru.â âI am Kaoru.â âNo, youâre notâ, you said, looking around the room, searching for the real twin who was just entertaining some guests. You sighed and got up. âDo I look like a charityâ, you mumbled, which, to your discontent, made Kyouya smirk, while Hikaru still looked after you, highly confused. âOh, (y/n)â, the younger twin grinned at you. âDecided to ditch English and be entertained instead? Is Kaoru boring you already?â But you didnât give him time to reply and instead grabbed his ear and pulled him towards your table, ignoring the gasping girls. âOw, ow, owâ, he complained but followed you. Well, he didnât have much of an option. âWhat are you doing?â âDonât even try to screw me overâ, you said. You really werenât in the mood. You hadnât slept properly for three days now. âI am tired enough as it is. So, sit down and study with me like a grown-up, Kaoru.â âBut Iâm not ââ âYeah, yeah and I am Haruhi. Sit downâ, you ordered, holding out his chair for him. You couldnât help but notice the small smirk on Kyouyaâs face. You shot him an angry glance â how dared he laugh at this. âButâ, Hikaru started, visibly taken aback. âHow did you know?â, Kaoru finished, but he wore an interested smirk on his face. He didnât seem to be as insulted by the whole thing as his brother. You sighed. âSeriously, guys do you think Iâm blind or stupid? Iâve known you for a few weeks now, I can tell you apart.â Haruhi and you had often talked about the small differences the twins showed and the more you talked about it the clearer it all seemed to you. Kyouya chuckled behind you. Oh, no, it was his fault that you were in this situation in the first place, he wasnât allowed to make fun of you now. âWhatâs there to laugh?â, you asked turning around and he just looked at you with the same spark in his eyes you had noticed the day before. âNothing. The only other person that can tell them apart seems to be Haruhi.â Confused you turned around. Wait, really? Haruhi did tell you about a day where they had played that game and got really mad at each other just a few days ago, but⊠âWaitâ, you said, turning around. âDoes that mean that youâ, you pointed at the boy with the glasses, âactually cannot tell them apart, either?â You refused to believe that. Sure, they looked alike, they were twins. And to be frank, you needed a few weeks and a few talks with Haruhi to actually get the hang of it. But once you did, they did look so distinctive. Especially when standing next to each other. Were rich people just freaking blind? Kyouya chose to remain silent. âSheâs right, Kyouya-senpaiâ, Kaoru started, happy to have gotten an excuse to get out of English classes. âYou always act like you know everything, but you never played.â Kyouya sighed, shutting his notebook. âI never played, because there is absolutely no gain for me in any way.â He got up ready to get away, but you got in his way. âAlright thenâ, you said. âLetâs make this a bit more interesting.â You looked straight into his eyes, ready to meet his challenging gaze. He raised an eyebrow, smirking. But this time you knew, you had won. You had successfully caught his interest and he confirmed your suspicion. âIâm listening.â âIf you win, Iâll do whatever you want. But if I win, you owe me.â âYou already do whatever I wantâ, he reminded you, and for a second you could see the gaze from yesterday come back to life. You tried to ignore that it made your heart flutter. âWithout complainingâ, you added. âAnd Iâll put in some hours for free.â He considered your offer for a moment. âIf I win, youâll work an entire month for free, and without complainingâ, he started, but seemed to hesitate for a second, and suddenly you realized that he was actively scanning your features. He looked at you intently, before replying. You tried to suppress the blush forming on your face from his intense gaze. But then he cleared his throat. He had made a decision. âAnd if you win, I owe you one favour of your choice. It has to be a relational one.â You nodded. That seemed fair enough. Especially since you were sure you were going to win this and a favour from Kyouya could come in handy one day. âWell then, letâs get started!â
It didnât take long for everybody to prepare the room for your game. Two chairs were moved so that Kyouya and you could sit down in front of two huge drapes that hung from the ceiling. âHave they always been here?â, you asked Haruhi, but she just shrugged. Nothing seemed to surprise her anymore. The entire Host Club had gathered behind you, minus the twins who were hiding behind the drapes. âDid you really have to make it so dramatic?â, you asked, but no one reacted. Instead, Tamaki stepped infront of you, opening his arms and looking at both of you with a serious look. "Round 1!â he proclaimed and made space for you to look at the drapes the twins would appear from. âKyouya, you start!â The twins stepped out, grinning at the both of you. Kyouya hesitated for a second. âHikaru is right, Kaoru is left.â âWrongâ, you interrupted before they could reply. âKaoru is on the right.â âThat is correct!â, the twins proclaimed, and you could feel Kaoruâs proud gaze linger on you for a second, before they disappeared again. You side eyed Kyouya. â1 - 0 for (y/n)!â, Honey proclaimed, walking past the curtains while holding up a sign showing the current score. Where did he get that? âRound 2!â The twins stepped out again. âSince the point went to (y/n) you may start again, Kyouya!â He eyed both twins, watched them for a moment longer, before sending you a really quick gaze and then pointing casually to the left twin. âYouâre Kaoru!â, he moved his finger. âSo youâre Hikaru.â Goddamnit. Was it something you did? You decided not to look at anyone next time it was his turn. âCorrect!â The twins proclaimed. âLucky guessâ, you shrugged. But Kyouya didnât react. He suddenly didnât seem so happy anymore, despite having just scored a point. Sometimes you really didnât understand him. âFinal Round!â This time just one twin stepped out. âKyouya! Who is the first twin?â He thought about it for second, while the twin was looking at you, from the corner of his eye. âThat is Kaoru.â You kept a pokerface as the twin disappeared again, and the other one stepped out on his behalf. â(Y/n), your turn to guess. Afterwards we will tell you who won. You looked at the twin in front of you who grinned at you. You smiled back. Only one of the twins grinned at you like that. "Youâre Kaoruâ, you said, turning back at your opponent. âAnd before that it was Hikaru.â âAgain correct!â, they both exclaimed. âWow, you really can tell us apart!â âTold you I couldâ, you proclaimed happily, before looking at Kyouya, who seemed weirdly relaxed about his loss. âYou owe me, I guess!â The twins appeared on your side grinning, but they didnât have a lot of time to celebrate your win, because immediately after they appeared, you turned your head to the side again, looking at Kaoru. âDonât you think you get out of your English lesson this easily.â
You felt a little better after your win, so much was true and so the English lesson with Kaoru went smoother than you had thought it would go. Despite his unwillingness at the beginning of the day, he was actually trying now and you were sure he would do just fine in the exam. After a while of going through the basic grammatical forms with him yet again, you found yourself staring at him for a little too long. The younger twin noticed that of course. âYou can take a picture, it will last longerâ, he said, grinning, and raised an eyebrow. You rolled your eyes, but smiled back. âIâm sure Kyouya still has some to sell to me.â You both giggled. You really got to like Kaoru a lot. His brother, too, of course, but Kaoru was a lot calmer and a bit more mature than his brother â although there was still room for improvement. You finished copying a sentence into your notebook while speaking up again, this time a bit more serious. âBut say, KaoruâŠâ, you started, and from the corner of your eyes you noticed his expression becoming a bit more serious, too. âWhy did you not want to study with me at first?â Kaoru hesitated for a second, but then replied as nonchalantly as he could muster. âBecause I donât like to study, why else?â You shook your head. âYou could have just refused then. Or showed up and not work with me. But you sent Hikaru. There is more to it than just that, isnât there?â Surprised he looked at you, but then his expression softened and a small smile appeared on his face. âWould you believe me, if I said, we just wanted to mess with Kyouya?â âNoâ, you replied but smiled back and waited for him to keep talking. He sighed and his smile turned sad. âYouâre right. The truth isâŠ", he averted his gaze from you, as if he was a little embarrassed about the whole situation, ââŠHikaru and me always studied together. I help him with some stuff and he helps me with other stuff like English. We switched roles in class a few times actually to see if anyone would notice, but no teacher ever did.â You chuckled a bit, but immediately turned serious again, when you realized, how disappointed he seemed about no one being able to tell them apart. âSorry.â He shook his head and continued. âItâs just that lately âŠâ, he trailed off and you gave him the time, â⊠things seem to change. It was always just as two against the world, but nowâŠâ He looked at his brother who was poking Haruhi with a coloured pencil. You nodded and understood. âYou didnât want this to change, too.â He looked back at you and nodded. You placed your hand on his. His eyes widened a bit at the touch, but he didnât pull his hand away. âYou knowâŠâ, you began, looking into his eyes, âSometimes change can be good. And I can imagine how you feel. I was always alone until I found Haruhi and she was my only friend throughout Middle School, so when she left to come to the Ouran High School, Iwas really sad. And worried.â You could see the surprise in his face. He hadnât known. Of course he hadnât, you hadnât told anyone this before. âPeople entering your small world is a big thing, but no matter what happens, I am entirely sure that you will always have each other. And maybe you can even gain from that, too. Like I did, getting to know all of you.â You smiled now and he reciprocated. âKaoru, you and Hikaru have a bond no one can destroy and maybe all of these new things just make it stronger. You know?â He seemed to think about your words for a moment. âYou really believe that?â You smiled at him. âAbsolutely.â He smiled back. You pulled your hand away and closed your book. âI think thatâs enough for today. Youâll definitely pass and what I couldnât explain well enoughâŠâ, you winked, âyou can ask Hikaru later.â Kaoru grinned at you, but also closed his book. âYeah, you were a terrible teacher, really.â You shrugged. âI guess we should tell Kyouya I am just not made for this job.â The two of you began to laugh, until you heard someone clear his throat behind you. Slowly you turned around to see Kyouya stare down at you, one eyebrow raised and definitely not happy. Oops.
Club time was ending and the girls were already gone, including most of the hosts. Only Haruhi and Kyouya were left in the room, getting ready to leave and cleaning up the last few things that were strewn across the room. Which actually should have been (y/n)âs job, but she had vanished some hours ago. Kyouya assumed for studying and he had accepted it. He rather had a rested help than an unconcentrated one. He picked up a few used tea cups, and stared at it, remembering when she had dropped the cup a while ago. She had not been herself for a few weeks now he wondered. He had noticed the dark circles under her eyes and had actually begun to worry a little. He sighed, packing one of his notebooks in his bag and tried to ban these thoughts from his head. They were really not productive, and he had more important matters to focus on. âKyouya-senpaiâ, Haruhiâs voice suddenly spoke up next to him, taking him back to reality. He had been so deep in thoughts that he hadnât even heard her coming up behind him. âSay⊠you did that on purpose didnât you?â He raised an eyebrow. âWhat do you mean?â Haruhi looked up at him with her innocent eyes that often were surprisingly insightful about everything but her own personal matters. âThat game. You lost on purpose, right?â He smiled, going back to closing his laptop and getting ready to leave. âNow, dear Haruhi, why would I have done that?â Haruhi was quiet for a while. âBecause I think you care about (y/n).â Kyouya halted in his movement. He had expected a lot of replies but not that one. His mind flashed back to the game, on how she had grinned at him, when she had won that first round. And then he thought about how Kaoru grinned at her, the one thing that had made him so easily recognizable for Kyouya. He clenched his jaw at the thought, but immediately went back to his calm self again. âOf course, I care about the members of this club. What kind of director would I be if I didnât. If I lost on purpose, then it was only because every now and a while an ego boost can work wonders. Especially, if the spirits have been low.â He smiled at Haruhi, the way he always did when he tried to hide his actual motives. To his surprise, though, she wasnât reacting to him. âNoâ, she simply said. âThatâs not what I meant.â But before she could actually tell him, what she had meant her gaze fell on the huge clock outside the school building. âOh god, is it so late already? The stores are closing in twenty minutes and I donât have anything for dinner!â She grabbed her bag but stopped, before she could run out. âCould you do me a favour?â, she asked, while hectically gathering her stuff. âIâll repay you.â That was everything he needed to hear. âOf course, my dear Haruhi, what is it?â She was almost half out the door, when she yelled. âCould you wake (y/n)? Sometimes she needs a while to wake up and I really have to run!â Wake (y/n)? But before he could ask, she had already run out of the room, leaving him standing there alone. But he wasnât alone. Now that the room had gone silent, he could hear someone breathing quietly. Surprised he walked over to the noise to find her on one of the sofas, obviously having fallen asleep while trying to study. Her geography book was lying open on the floor in front of her and she was breathing regularly, obviously in a deep sleep. Quietly, he walked over to her sleeping form, picked up the book and placed it gently on the table in front of her. For a second he just looked at her, letting his gaze wander over her face, her shoulders, her body. She seemed a little pale, he noticed, and she had lost a bit of weight. He had first noticed how exhausted she actually was, when she had let him go that easily for calling her aunt. He knew that she was usually a lot feistier, but she barely had had any energy left. He sighed, sitting down in the chair facing her sofa. He checked his watch. He should leave for home as well, but for some reason, he had decided to just sit down and give you a few more minutes. So that you could rest a bit and do well in your exams and keep up with your work in the club. Thatâs what he told himself at least. He lifted a hand and propped his chin on it, gaze fixated on her sleeping face, while he was lost deep in thoughts. He started to become frustrated with himself. Here he was, just wasting time, because this girl had decided to fall asleep during club times. And still, he didnât get himself to wake her up. She got him to do things he would have normally never agree on. He thought about her challenging grin. He hadnât had seen too much of that side of you, this challenging one, yet, but he would be lying if he said, it hadnât caught his interest. In this moment he had also realized that he had never actually seen her participate in any of Tamakiâs or the twinâs games before. She was usually just watching how things unfolded, only that no one seemed to realize it. She was a lot more insightful than she let show, he noticed. He sighed, shaking his head. Could Haruhi be right? Did he maybe care about her? He knew he did somehow, she had become part of the club and although he barely showed it, he was fully aware that he actually cared deeply about every single member. Still, she had an entirely different effect on him. And what did Haruhi mean when she said these words. Thatâs not what I meant. His gaze fell on her geography book and then back at her. She had been working really hard these last days and he respected that. He nodded slightly. That was the reason he let her sleep for a few more minutes. Working part-time next to school and coming here just to help out Haruhi ⊠She was a lot stronger than he sometimes liked to admit. He checked his watch. He would give her ten minutes more, he decided, and after their exams they could all use a little break from everything.

Whatâs in it for me?
Chapter 4/?
Chapter 1 Masterlist
Pairing: Kyouya Ootori x Reader Author: see-the-fandom-imagines  Warnings: None at all.  A/N: Let me know if you want to be tagged in the upcoming parts!
You ran your hands under the stream of cold water to quickly rinse them, when a customer entered. Automatically, you lifted your head and smiled to greet them. âWelcome!â, you greeted as you were trained to, but when you looked at the customer you realized it was just - âHaruhi!â Happily you smiled and waved at your friend. âI am almost off, but I got to still clean up and wait for Taiga, he is in the back checking the stock.â Haruhi smiled as well and nodded. âNo worriesâ, she told you and sat down at the table closest to you. This close to closing time there werenât many customers left and it had gotten really quiet. You walked past the bar to pick up a few empty cups from Haruhiâs table to put them in the dishwasher. âSo howâs it going? How was school? How was club?â Haruhi shrugged and yawned. âDonât askâ, she said and she really looked a little exhausted. You could relate to be honest. It was exam season and with studying, helping out in the host club and working you did not get too much sleep. Haruhi was here so you could study together. âThe usual. Hikaru and Kaoru resolved their argument at least, so itâs a bit quieter again. Youâre back tomorrow, though arenât you?â âYesâ, you confirmed, while starting the cleaning program of the coffee machine. âIf itâs too much for you, please donât come, it is going to be alright.â You smiled at her weakly. It was cute that she was worried. âItâs fine! We have a deal, donât we?â And Haruhi didnât argue with that. She knew how stubborn you could be, so she decided to let it go and you just chatted about all and sundry until you could leave. Taiga, a university student who was also working in the cafĂ© part time, told you he would lock today so that you could go home a bit earlier. Thankful, you had accepted and promised him you would make it up to him and you were really happy that you could leave a few minutes early.
Still chatting, Haruhi and you walked over to your place. âHow are you doing, though (y/n)?â, she asked, seeming genuinely worried about you. âYou are working a lot these days.â âI am fine, reallyâ, you said, putting on a smile, but you knew this wouldnât be enough, so you quickly added, âIâm a bit tired, yes, but itâs nothing I cannot cope with, promise. And also itâll all be over in a few days.â Haruhi looked straight ahead and you could see her brows furl as she replied. âI just donât want you to overexert yourself, just to help with my debt.â You carefully put a hand on her shoulder, stopping her so she would look at you. A few passers-by walked past you a bit confused about your sudden halt, but you didnât care. âI promise I am alright.â She didnât seem convinced, but she nodded and smiled a little now. You kept on walking. âAnd also itâs not your fault. Itâs that Kyouya who treats me like I am his personal mule. Can you believe him?â, you started, and you didnât even notice how you began blabbering. âHe wonât let us rest one second.â You could feel Haruhiâs gaze on you, but you just continued. âAnd remember what we talked about the other day? The whole thing with Renge?â âYeah, that was really tediousâ, she agreed, seemingly thinking about something. You brushed past it, you were too deep in your complaining. âIt was, wasnât it? And all just because he wanted those pictures.â You sulked for a second. âAnd that he has keys for everything? I mean it is kind of impressive, but still, who does that.â Haruhi nodded. âHe can be very dark.â âYeah, right? But then other days he is almost nice? And he is really smart, I got to leave him that. Without him the club probably wouldnât work so well, but he also really doesnât care about anyone, does he?â âSay, (y/n)âŠâ, Haruhi tried to stop you, but you were full-blown into your rant, all the while keeping your gaze fixed on the road ahead. âAnd then he is always smirking to himself like he is better than us or something. It is better than his fake smile, though, I got to admit ⊠That makes me feel way worse.â â(Y/n)â, Haruhi tried again, her voice a bit firmer, and this time you actually shut up and looked at her. âCould it be⊠that you like Kyouya-senpai?â That stopped you dead in your tracks. You opened your mouth to reply something, but her saying these words had gotten you by surprise. You closed your mouth again and looked at your friend, who hadnât stopped walking as suddenly as you and thus was standing a little bit ahead of you. âFor days you have been talking about himâ, Haruhi continued, âand I have known you for quite a while. Remember how it was with Arai in Middle School?â Your heart skipped a beat at the memory. âNoâ, you said firmly, looking at the ground again. âOf course, I donât like him. Arai was different. He was actually nice, Kyouya is just âŠâ âAlright, alrightâ, Haruhi sighed, lifting her hands to get you to stop talking. She had known you for long enough to know that you were stubborn as hell with these things. âI meanâ, you began again, picking a little dirt from your nails that you had suddenly realised was there, âwhy would I even like him.â Haruhi shrugged. âThat I donât know either.â You looked at each other and you both burst out laughing. It felt good to talk to her about these things. You did see each other more regularly thanks to the club, but you barely had time to actually hang out. âLetâs go, we still need to studyâ, you said and Haruhi nodded. Together you walked on to your place, but you barely listened to what she was saying. You knew that Haruhi was strangely insightful in-between, but she was surely wrong about this. There was no other way. Still, the thought didnât leave you alone until you finally reached your place.
âI am backâ, you yelled into the living area, not sure whether or not you would get a reply. âWelcome home!â, your auntâs voice greeted you. Sometimes she would work late, being a nurse and all, but today she already seemed to be home. Haruhi and you walked through the small entrance into the living room and kitchen area where your aunt Miwako was already cooking. âI started to make dinner, I hope you are hungry!â âStarvingâ, you said and Haruhi bowed slightly. âHi Ms (L/n).â âOh, Haruhi! Nice to see you! Are you staying for dinner?â âOh, I donât ââ âYes, Miwakoâ, you smiled at Haruhi. She had told you Ranka was working late tonight and you knew her enough to know that she just did not want to bother your aunt. âHow nice! Iâll make a little extra you can bring your father when you get home.â That woman really thought of everything. Haruhi smiled slightly and bowed again. âThank you, that is really kind.â âOf course, Haruhi! At this point you are like a second child to me. Ranka-san took care of (y/n) so often, I am happy to return the favour.â âWe wanted to study a bitâ, you said, making your way towards your room. âIs it okay, if we go into my room until dinner?â âBut of course! You go study and I will call you when dinner is ready!â âThank youâ, the both of you said simultaneously, before vanishing into your room so that Haruhi could finally explain that icky math problem to you, you just didnât seem to understand.
After another hour of studying your aunt had called you for dinner and now the three of you sat at a table filled with different small dishes and a bowl of rice and miso soup for everyone. âIt is not a lot, but I hope you will like it.â âEnjoy!â, everybody wished, and you began to dig in. After a day full of school and work you had gotten really hungry, you realized. âSo, Haruhiâ, your aunt tried to make light conversation. âYou are going to that fancy school for a while now, right? How is it going?â âOh, uhm âŠâ, Haruhi shot you a side glance. You hadnât told Miwako that you were helping out in the host club and she knew that. âQuite well actually. I was able to keep my grades steady so far and I am learning a lot.â âThatâs amazing. How about friends? Found some new people?â Haruhi smiled into her bowl of rice and nodded. âYeah, I think I did.â You smiled, too. It was nice seeing her this happy thinking about the host club as her friends. Now that you thought about it, you also considered them your friends. Most of them at least. âYou know, (y/n) was just telling me the other day âŠâ She was interrupted by her phone ringing. She stopped her chopsticks mid-air, seemingly considering whether or not she should pick up her phone. She quickly checked the number, and you noticed her clenching her jaw and her expression darken. The ringing stopped. You watched her carefully, but she took a deep breath, before putting the phone away and putting on a smile again. âSo, as I was saying âŠâ The phone began again. Her face fell. âYou can pick up, maybe itâs importantâ, you said, but you avoided her gaze. âI know who⊠Itâs âŠâ She sighed frustrated, but still got up, her phone in hand. âIâll be right back.â As she vanished into the next room you could only hear her yell: âI told you to stop calling me!â
You put your chopsticks down as well, staring into your bowl of rice. You didnât know for sure, but you had an idea about who kept calling her and you felt weirdly responsible for it. Haruhi noticed that something was wrong. âWho was that?â, she asked, her eyes flicking between the door Miwako had vanished through and you. âAre you okay?â âYes, yes, of courseâ, you smiled weakly, knowing she wouldnât fall for it, so you just kept talking. âI am not entirely sure who keeps calling her, she wonât tell me. But the other day I heard my name, so I listened in a few times and she was talking about some kind of money âŠâ âOh.â Haruhi understood immediately. It was silent for a while, before she turned to look at you. â(Y/n), none of this is your fault, you know that, right?â You looked at her as well, into her honest, but stern face and for a second you actually believed her. âI know.â
ââ
âI told you to stop calling me! For the last time, youâll get neither her nor the money!â Kyouya checked his phone display. For a split second he wasnât sure if he had called the right number, but then he found his voice again. âMs. Miwako (L/n)?â An awkward short pause before she spoke, this time with a calmer voice, yet, she still sounded suspicious. âYes?â âIt is nice to finally talk to you. My name is Kyouya Ootori and I am the director of the club (y/n) is attending at Ouran High School.â Another short pause. âWhat?â He waited for a brief second to see if she was about to say anything else, but as she didnât reply, he simply kept on talking, although this talk already wasnât really going the way he had expected. âAt the local Private Ouran High School. Your daughter is taking part in our club, together with Haruhi, who I think you know as well?â It was still silent at the other end. Kyouya dared to suspect, âI guess, your niece didnât tell you about it?â No answer. He checked his display again to see if the call had disconnected, but it was still going. âHello?â âIâm still here, sorry. Yes, no, she really didnât tell me about it! I was just surprised.â He heard her exhale deeply and Kyouya wondered if calling her had been a good idea. Suddenly she seemed to realize what was happening. âSo, my niece is part of your club. At Ouran High School. And you are the director. And I just yelled at you?!â She yelled again. Kyouya held the phone a little away from his ear. âI am so sorry! But, uhm, how come⊠how âŠ?â Kyouya considered for a moment how much he would tell her. If (y/n) hadnât told her aunt anything about the club, then maybe it was best to stay vague. He already knew that she would be furious at him in the morning. Her aunt didnât seem like the type who could keep this call secret. âShe is honourably helping out at our club three times a week, which of course can only be beneficial for her later education. I am a student at Ouran High School, just like Haruhi, and I am calling to inform you that we are taking good care of your niece and that you can always call this number in case you have any questions. We will also inform you about all major events.â âI wonder when she finds the time for thatâ, she whispered, more to herself than to him. âAnd why is a student calling me?â He had just opened his mouth to reply, when she asked a question, he hadnât expected. âWhen you say âtake good care of herâ, you donât mean anything sketchy right? What kind of club is this even?â The suspicion was back in her voice. He cleared his voice, this was certainly not the direction in which he had thought this talk would develop. âOf course not. I am a year above her and we are taking part the same after school club and since you have entrusted her in our care, I, as the managing director, simply wanted to contact you.â He ignored her latter question, hoping she would let it go. She already did not seem to fond of him, and he had apparently told her too much already, the rest would be on (y/n) to explain. If she already was suspicious of him, mentioning that it was a Host club probably wasnât the best idea and he certainly did not feel like having that discussion. âUh-huhâ, she did not seem convinced. There was something in her voice he couldnât quite interpret. Again she asked something he did not expect. Ranka had not been as thorough. âDoes my niece know that you are calling me?â âI ⊠No.â He admitted. âYou got to know her a little by now?â âYes, maâam.â âYou know she is going to be furious with you.â âYes, maâam.â There was a small silence, before she spoke up again. âI will be looking forward to those updates.â âCertainlyâ, he said, ready to end the call, but she wasnât quite done yet. âShe is a really stubborn girl. But very diligent.â He let her speak. âShe feels guilty about what happened with her parents âŠâ Again, she seemed to talk more to herself than to him, but he made a mental note, nonetheless. He actually couldnât find a lot of information about them. âSometimes she works a little too hard. But I see how attending a club at your school can only be beneficial for her.â She seemed to think about something. âWhen you say you will be taking care of her⊠is this a promise?â Kyouya faltered. A promise? On a professional level of course. But her voice suggested more than that, and he thought about (y/n). About their talks, about her ways to try to help wherever she could. The challenging smirks, the exasperated gasps, but also the happy smile when she was interacting with the other hosts. Although she couldnât see it, he nodded slightly. âIt is.â
â-
âMorningâ, you greeted your aunt, still drowsy with sleep, and let yourself fall onto your chair at the breakfast table. Your aunt didnât reply, but instead was staring at you intently. You raised an eyebrow, beginning to slowly wake up. âIs everything alright?â She still didnât speak, but instead maintained eye contact while she bit off a piece of toast. âMiwako? You are scaring me a bit.â She swallowed. âGood.â Oh-oh. âDid something happen?â She leaned on the table, still not breaking eye contact. âYou tell me.â Confused you blinked, trying to fight the tiredness. You had only slept for about four hours this night the rest was lost in your studies. Her staring began to make you uncomfortable. âTell you what?â As you didnât say anymore, she spoke up, all the while still staring at you. Did that woman ever have to blink? âOh, I donât know.â Her tone was calm, but sarcastic. âWhat you had for lunch yesterday? Or which exam you have to write tomorrow âŠâ  She paused, before dragging out the next words. âWhat you are doing after school today?â You sighed, dropping your head. âHow did you find out?â âHa!â, she shouted, âSo you admit it!â âWhat do you mean admit, I never lied.â âYou just didnât tell me!â She pouted. âWhy didnât you tell me?â âI didnât want you to worryâ, you finally admitted and you saw her expression change. â(Y/n)â, she said and began to look at you again. âI am your aunt. It is my job to worry about you, alright?â You nodded slowly, but you still felt kind of bad. âYou participating in a club in Ouran High School, that is amazing. If you get a certificate from them it is going to be worth so much later on.â You smiled weakly, but it dropped as quickly as it had formed. âHowever.â Oh-oh. âYou cannot lie to me anymore, alright? I need to know where you are, did you understand me?â Her tone had gotten really serious now. âEspecially now sinceâŠâ She trailed off and sighed, but still looked at you, now a bit softer. âCan you promise that?â You nodded. âYes, Miwako. Sorry for worrying you.â âItâs alright.â She smiled again. âIt is great news. And I am glad that boy called me.â Immediately, your smile vanished. âWhich boy?â You already knew before she opened her mouth. âOh, wait, what was his name? Okawa? Otaki?â âOotori?â âYes, thatâs it! I canât believe it, in the club for a few weeks and you already got a boyfriend.â âHe is not my boyfriend!â âOf course notâ, she smiled as if she didnât believe a word you said. âSo, is he handsome? And what kind of club is it anyways, are you hiding a secret talent from me that they took you in?â âSorry, gotta go!â, you said quickly, grabbing a piece of toast and running out of the room. You knew you wouldnât be able to fully ignore these questions, but as long as you could run away from her inquiry, youâd try. And if Kyouya had to be the one explaining to her, all the better for you. He definitely would deserve that.

Whatâs in it for me?
Chapter 3/?
Chapter 1 Masterlist
Pairing: Kyouya Ootori x Reader Author: see-the-fandom-imagines Warnings: None at all. Word Count: 3224 A/N: Next chapter! As explained before I didnât 100% follow the anime, I also got inspiration from the live action and/or just made up a few things. Hope you still like it~ Let me know if you want to be tagged in the upcoming parts!
The next day you entered the club and the first thing you noticed was that Renge was already there. You groaned and rolled your eyes, you really didnât feel like putting up with her. Immediately, you started to feel a little bad. She hadnât done anything to you and yet here you were thinking so negatively about her. Maybe you should give her another chance. âHeyâ, you greeted Haruhi and she greeted back. âWhat did I miss?â âNot muchâ, she said, âI also just got in, but I feel like theyâre up to something.â She pointed at the other hosts standing in a bulk, whispering, and now you saw it, too. Oh-oh. And indeed, it didnât take long until Tamaki got swept away again, raising his voice loud enough that you could hear him from your position. âSo, if Haruhi has a girlfriend around, it could bring out the female within her. Rengeâs girlish air of tenderness might be able to stimulate Haruhiâs own sense of femininity!â, you heard him yell. Haruhi exhaled exasperatedly next to you. âNow is our chance to help Haruhi get in touch with her feminine side! This is an important project, men. She doesnât have any friends in class right now except for these two shady twins. Thatâs no good for her.â âHey, what about me?â You had stepped closer to them and put your hands on your hips. The slight feeling of jealousy was back and your decision to give Renge another chance began to falter. But the hosts barely reacted to your protest. âWell, youâre not really girly eitherâ, Hikaru claimed, shrugging, turning back to the rest of the hosts. âHey!â Now you were really upset. âYou canât just replace me like that!â Immediately, everybody stared at you, surprised about your emotional outburst, so you quickly talked on, trying to make the whole situation less awkward. âHaruhi has a girlfriend and it doesnât matter if we play sports or bake cookies, itâŠâ âYes!â, Renge suddenly exclaimed. âI would like to make some sweets for Kyoya-sama.â Oh no, you had given her ideas. Without missing a beat Kyouya, who had kept in the background until this moment, stepped forward, happy about being able to stop the other hosts scheming and clapped his hands together, giving her a sweet smile. âWhat an honour that is for me!â He then turned around almost seamlessly, his smile vanished as he was looking at Haruhi and you and his usual serious self protruded. âIsnât that right, Haruhi? (Y/n)?â You smiled back just as sweetly fake as he had before, but Haruhi stepped past you. âBut weâll have to get permission to use the home economics room, borrow the keyâŠâ Haruhi was just as motivated to do this as you were. At least you werenât alone, but of course, that didnât stop Kyouya. He stepped between you, placing a hand on Haruhiâs shoulder, talking in a low voice and facing you directly, so that Renge couldnât see his expression. âI have the keyâ, he whispered. âWhat?â, Haruhi exclaimed, while you tried to figure out what this guy wasnât capable of. âI thought something like this might happen, so I made a copy of every key in the school.â With these words and a superior smile, he pulled out a key ring full of keys out of his pocket. Your eyes widened and for a second you forgot that you were mad at him. This guy was truly something. âCoolâ, you whispered, but cleared your throat immediately, not ready to give Kyouya that satisfaction, although you were almost sure he had heard you. Haruhi didnât seem so happy about it.
Soon, you, Renge and Haruhi stood in the home economics room, wearing aprons and trying to teach Renge how to bake cookies. Still sulking, you kneaded your dough, still mad at the girl from France, who kept burning everything she touched. You knew you should have helped Haruhi saving Renge from her own mistakes, but somehow you werenât in the mood. Suddenly, a movement caught your eye. Right there in the door you spotted all the hosts, given, minus Kyoya, fawning over the view. What did they think they were doing? You approached the door and no one seemed to notice you, except for Mori, who immediately hid behind the door, but it was too late, you already stood in front of them, raising an eyebrow. You cleared your throat and they all looked up at you at the same time. âI am going to close the door nowâ you said in cold voice, shutting it in their face to finish baking the cookies in peace. The audacity these guys had inbetween.
An excruciating hour later you walked back into the club, carrying your cookies. Renge went first, then Haruhi and you followed silently, still sulking. You would give these to your aunt later you thought. She deserved a treat. Tamaki was on one of his rants but got stopped immediately by Renge waltzing through. âYouâre talking too much, Fake Kingâ, she said coldly, without even looking at Tamaki. In every other situation you would have smiled, but that feeling quickly disappeared, when she made her way directly over to Kyouya with her cookies, holding them out to him. âKyouya-samaâ, she caught his attention. You grumbled and placed down your cookies on a table, refusing to watch him suck up to her. âHaruhi-kun and (y/n) have shown me how to make commonersâ cookies.â âHow marvelousâ, he exclaimed happily. âHow marvelousâ, you mimicked him, making the twins chuckle. Kyouya acted like he hadnât heard it, but you noticed his eyebrow twitch ever so slightly. You decided to see this as a win.
Of course where there were cookies, there was Honey. Sweetly he made his way over to Renge. âCan I have a bite?â, he asked with big eyes and looked at the cookies. Immediately, his smile faltered. They were absolutely burnt. âYours look betterâ, Kaoru noticed, sitting down next to you and taking one from you. Hikaru took one, as well, placing it into your mouth, before raising your chin with his hand, and biting off the other half. âYou still have some crumbles on your faceâ, Kaoru added, carefully licking off the crumbles of your face. You turned slightly red at the proximity, but couldnât react, because you heard Kyouya clear his throat, making the twins grin up at him. Why did this feel like a plan? He stepped over to your little group. âPlease, donât forget how important her family relations are to meâ, he said, looking at all three in a reprimanding fashion. You rolled your eyes. He raised an eyebrow. âAre you sure thatâs whatâs bothering youâ, Hikaru said, slipping off the couch and stepping in front of Kyouya. âOr is itâŠâ, Kaoru started, also getting up, but couldnât finish his sentence, as he was interrupted by Rengeâs loud voice. âYou are all too tepid!â The entire host club stopped in their movement. âEvery single one of you! Except for Kyouya, all of your characters are lukewarm!â Everybody just stared at her for a while, unsure about how to handle the situation. Your eyes flickered to Kyouya. âEach of you needs to have some sort of dark side, you understand? Girls are vulnerable to handsome young men who are troubled! If you keep carrying on like this itâs only a matter of time before the girls get tired of you and stop coming altogether! Are you trying to ruin my precious Kyouyaâs business?!â âBusiness?â, Moriâs dark voice rang out and you shot him a surprised glance. You could hear the hurt in his voice as she suggested that the club was nothing more than a business to him. Mori caught your glance and you tried to tell him with your eyes that you understood. He smiled weakly, and for a second you two bonded without words over the ridiculousness of the situation. But Renge didnât even care. âAs your manager itâs my duty to change your character backgrounds! Letâs start with you!â She pointed to Honey. One by one, she went through the hosts. And you felt really bad for them. Whatever movie she was in, she needed to get back to reality. Sighing you leant back in your seat, waiting for her to finish. At least she wouldnât talk about - âYou!â You pointed at your face. âMe?â âYouâre the Cinderella of the club!â âThe what now?â Confused you looked around the room, but everybody was busy accepting their own new role. âYou work hard, every day, being mistreated by the members, when all you want is a rich knight in shining armour.â You took a deep breath, trying not to yell at her, shooting Kyouya a glance that said âif I murder her, itâs her own fault.â You could see a smile appear on his face. A real smile. Not the fake one he had worn the entire time since that girl had appeared. Your eyes widened a little in surprise and your heart beat a little faster. He noticed your sudden surprise and his expression changed to confusion. But you didnât have time or the will to react to this, so instead you tried to collect your thoughts and put your attention on the person in the room you were actually mad at. âSo I am the shallow rival?â, you asked almost sarcastically, raising an eyebrow at her, but again she didnât even listen to you. âA rival in a dramatic love triangle!â Renge continued, grabbing your arm and pulling you next to Kyouya. âYou fell in love with my beloved Kyouya, cause how could it be different!â A dark blush crept onto your face. Out of anger or embarrassment you didnât know. âIâd never ââ you tried to stop her, but she was waltzing over you. âKyouya-sama, however, has only eyes for his fiancĂ©. Me. Meanwhile, MoriâŠâ, now she grabbed his arm, pulling him on your other side, ââŠis deeply in love with you.â âThatâs not how a love triangle worksâ, you chimed in, trying one last time to stop her, but she ignored you. âThatâs rightâ, the twins appeared on your sides again. âNow if she would like meâ, Hikaru started, tilting your chin up to his face, âbut I would be in love with herâ, Kaoru tilted your head towards him. Your noses were almost touching. âThat would be a love triangle.â âOh yes!â, Renge shouted, âthat is genius!â âWhy would you give her ideas?â, you sighed and saw that the twins at least also were embarrassed. They had backed off a bit, but both kept an arm dangling over your shoulders. âWe donât know.â
A few minutes later, Renge had not necessarily calmed down, but at least she was busy making some phone calls to whoever, so you got a bit of peace. You had sat back down at the table you had placed your cookies on to get a bit of rest after that whole ordeal. It was almost time for you to go home, anyways. Carefully, you began wrapping them, when Kyouya stepped next to you, but you didnât even give him the time to lecture you. âDo I really have to be a part of this?â, you sighed instead.  He eyed Renge from the corners of his eyes, while he grabbed on of your cookies. âHey!â You wanted to protest, but there was no use. âDo I need to remind you âŠâ, he began speaking, that fake smile back on his face, he wore whenever she was looking at him. You rolled your eyes and didnât even let him finish his sentence. âFineâ, you interrupted him, âIâll do itâ, you said, focusing on wrapping your cookies. âBut can you stop acting like that, then, please?â Surprised, Kyouya dropped his smile. âLike what?â He tried to keep his composure. âAll those fake smiles and such when youâre talking to me.â You avoided his gaze and focused on your cookies. âThatâs not you and I am not one of the girls you need to impress.â You looked up, but couldnât look him in the eye. âI like you more, when youâre yourself.â With these words you got up and left the room. Kyouya looked after you, thinking, biting off a piece of the cookie he had taken from you earlier.
â
Mori stood in front of you. Your gaze went over to Kyouya who stood behind the camera. âDonât be ridiculous, Takashiâ, you sneered. âIn comparison to everybody else here your family business earns mere peanuts.â You hated yourself for saying these words. Who had written this dialogue again? âYou are nothing but the watchdog forâŠâ, you kept on talking, when you suddenly felt Moriâs strong arms around you, pressing you tightly against his chest. Good for the twins, bad for you, Renge had decided that the twins were better off on their own so here you were now. You stiffened, according to the script, waiting for the hug to end. You did feel a little safer in his embrace, though, at least this way you could ignore the three cameras pointed at you. Mori always had something calming about him and you allowed yourself to relax for a second, before whispering âsorryâ in a hushed voice that only he would be able to hear, before you pushed him away rather harshly. âYouâre nothing to me. I could never love you.â Gosh, this was so not you. Why were you part of this again? But then your gaze found Haruhi behind the camera, who was talking to Tamaki, and you remembered. Ah, right. You focused back on the scene and on Mori who now knelt before you. He actually seemed a little hurt by your words. He was definitely a good actor that much you had to give him. When he spoke his voice was dark and soft as usual. âI can make you happy.â For some reason these words let your heart beat a bit faster, as you looked at the older host and you started to stammer. âCut, cut, cut!â, Renge yelled, and you shook your head. âSorryâ, you apologized, more to Mori than to her. âI think I just need a break.â
You stepped over to Kyoya, who was scribbling something in his notebook again. âAnd? Happy with what youâre seeing?â He stopped writing for a second, not seeming to understand what you were saying. âI donât know what you mean.â He avoided eye contact. Did he think ⊠âOh!â, you quickly exclaimed, ânot that scene. No⊠I just assumed you are mostly accepting this behaviour because you need new material for your photo books.â He smirked and began to write again. âI really have underestimated youâ, he said and you werenât sure if you should feel insulted or happy about the compliment. You were just about to reply something, when Renge called you over for take two.
ââ
You ran towards the commotion, worried about your friend. The twins had run over to you and told you what had happened and you immediately followed them back to the schene. When you arrived, Tamaki was looking at your friend intently, making sure she was fine. You sighed relieved. That guy really was alright. You stepped next to him, looking down at your friend. âAre you okay, Haru-chan?â Haruhi nodded. Now fully relieved, you exhaled deeply, when Rengeâs voice made you tense up again. âOther than Haruhiâs contact falling out that was an ideal final scene!â , she exclaimed happily and now you really had enough. Even with the risk of Kyouya murdering you afterwards, you couldnât just let this continue. âHeyâ, you yelled at her, âmy friend got hurt!â But she ignored you. You swore by god if sheâd now make it all about ⊠âAll it needs now is a moving narration by my sweet Kyouya!â You had opened your mouth again, ready to give her a bit of your opinion, when a loud crashing sound interrupted your anger. Surprised you looked up to see Kyouya in front of you, having destroyed the camera lense with a big stone in one swift movement. You watched him in awe and you felt your pulse quicken. âIâm terribly sorryâ, Kyouya started, ignoring the cries of the camera men, âbut I cannot allow there to be any record of a club member engaging in violence. I think youâve caused enough trouble around here Renge.â And then he said the one sentence you could have kissed him for on the spot. âPlease stop being such a pest.â Took him long enough. You lowered your head, trying to hide your smile at these words. Finally, he was back to normal. Well, whatever normal was for him. And Renge definitely had needed a reality check. Your happiness was short-lived, though, because not a second later, tears started to fall from her eyes. Unsure about what to do you looked her. âA pest?â You reached out a hand to pat her shoulder, and she looked up at you with tear-stained eyes, before she turned back to Kyouya. âBut youâre supposed to pat me on the head and tell me not to worry! Youâre supposed to be kind and affectionate Kyouya! Why are you acting so differently now? Tell me why!â âBecause that is not the real Kyouyaâ, Tamaki simply said into the silence. You smiled slightly. He could be really insightful if he wanted. As annoying as he was sometimes, his heart was certainly in the right place. You let your hand sink back to your side and your gaze wandered over to Kyouya. âThank god it isnâtâ, you said teasingly, and he caught your smirk, stepping next to you, while Haruhi confronted Renge. âWhat are you implying?â âI saw you be nice for two entire days, and it freaked me out, to be honest.â He chuckled. âWell, I told you, her family relations meant a lot to me. Why do you think I allowed all this to happen in the first place? Ignoring the fact that now I will have to pay for the camera lense, too. Should I add that to Haruhiâs debt?â You looked up at him. Somehow you were really relieved he had stopped this madness and was back to his usual, even if slightly scary, self. You knew he had allowed all of this for a reason as usual, but he had also stopped it eventually. He said for the sake of the club, but something told you that this wasnât the full truth. You smiled slightly. He really was intriguing. âDonât act like the video material hadnât been saved digitally. Iâm sure youâll recover financially.â And with these words you left his side, to walk over to Haruhi who was actually comforting Renge. Maybe, you should give her another chance. Or at least save Haruhi from the situation.
Again, Kyouya looked after her, a smirk appearing on his face. He watched her kneel down next to Haruhi and Renge, talking and trying to calm down the latter. He scoffed and looked at the stone he was still holding in his hand, throwing it up and down a few times. Getting you into the club had been certainly the most interesting thing that had happened in a long time.Â

Chapter 2/?
Chapter 1 Masterlist
Pairing: Kyouya Ootori x Reader
Author: see-the-fandom-imagines
Warnings: None at all.
Word Count: 2629
A/N: As mentioned before I take inspiration from anime and live-action, so I hope it isnât too confusing! :)
And yes, this is incredibly slow-burn, but hopefully worth it.Also I had to put this episode into two chapters, otherwise theyâd have been too long. I know itâs starting slow, but I got a few things planned for the next chapters, so stay tuned.
It had been a few weeks now since you had started helping out in the host club and on most days everything went down smoothly. You went to work twice a week and joined Haruhi in Music Room 3 on all other days. After a while everybody got used to you, the girls would ask you less questions about Haruhi you had to dodge and you had talked a little more with each one of the hosts. You didnât mind coming in so often to be honest, mostly because it meant you could hang out more with Haruhi, but you had to admit, as crazy as the other hosts were, you soon realized that they were some of the nicest people you ever met. Well, some were nicer than others, but still. You had rarely felt that accepted anywhere this quickly.
âTheyâre back to their nonsenseâŠâ, Haruhi stated and you chuckled, carrying a tray full of green tea, when suddenly a bunch of girls surrounded her. âHaruhi-kun, you look so great in that kimono!â âYes, almost like a girl.â You smiled at her. She really did look beautiful. But as always when the topic got even somewhat close to Haruhi being a girl a familiar voice interrupted. âHaruhi, youâve booked another appointment. It seems youâve had a pretty steady flow of new customers lately. Keep up the good work.â Kyouya scribbled something onto a scroll while speaking. You wondered if he was actually writing or if that was just another useless prop. âIâm not going to charge you interest on your debt like I normally would, so keep this up and you should be able to pay it off. Although the rental fee on that kimono youâre wearing is nothing to sneeze at.â He smiled sweetly, and all the girls seemed captivated by it. âKyouya-samaâ, one girl spoke up and you rolled your eyes. âYouâre just too much in that kimono!â He took that compliment gracefully as you sighed and walked past, just trying to get out of the situation. âOh, but why didnât you get one, (y/n)-chan?â Surprised you looked up. A girl with dark brown hair had appeared in front of you, looking up at you with big eyes. "I bet you would look really cute in one, too.â Did she blush? âOh, well, I-â âBecause she is not an official memberâ, Kyouyaâs voice rang out without missing a beat and you simply chuckled dryly, looking down at your usual school uniform. âAh, thatâs trueâ, another girl noted, absolutely dazzled the second the older guy spoke up. âLetâs not talk about the rental feeâŠâ, you murmured a tad too loud, so that Kyouya would definitely hear you, but the girls just kept on blabbering something about picture books. Somehow it didnât even surprise you anymore that Kyouya sold secret photos of all of the hosts. You kept on listening, while putting down a cup of tea infront of another girl. But maybe you could use that to your advantage.
âHey, Kaoruâ, you yelled, waving the twin in your direction. âJust Kaoru?â, Hikaru spoke up and followed suit, taking one of the tea cups from your tray. You had known heâd follow in a flirty mood if you just mentioned his brother. Kaoru didnât react this strongly. Carefully you took out your mobile phone from your pocket with your free hand. âWhat is it, (y/n)â, Kaoru said, smiling at you, bending over so he could look into your eyes, but your gaze was fixed on your phone. You held out the tray for him, so heâd take the other tea cup, before placing the now empty tray on a random couch. âI just wanted to bring you some teaâ, you said, smiling at him. He didnât quite seem to believe you and his gaze fell on the phone in your hand. âDo you want my number?â You smiled. That wasnât quite what you had in mind, but, âyes, if itâs alright with you?â Hikaru appeared on his brotherâs side. âHow unfair, what about me?â âI want your number, too, of course. I thought now that we are friends, we should be able to contact each other, no?â
Minutes later you sat down in front of Kyouya, sighing, playing with your phone. He didnât even look up. âIs it time for your break, yet?â, he asked, but you chose to ignore that question. You lowered your phone, before bending over the table a little, trying to make eye contact. âInstead of making me carry stuff, let me help you with thatâ, you said, pointing at his scroll and the tablet that was hidden underneath a cloth. Only now did he look up and raised an eyebrow. âWhat? I might as well help out in a way thatâs a little more useful, no?â Kyouya still didnât seem convinced. You sighed. âYou need photos to sell, but only got random blurry pics, correct?â âYesâ, he said. âYou think you can sell them?â âNot quiteâ, you said. âBut you need photos, no?â Kyouya finally put down his scroll. You had successfully caught his interest. âSo youâre saying you can deliver pictures of all hosts that are good enough to sell?â âBetterâ, you smirked and lifted your phone.
Kyouya looked at the picture you had just taken of him, entirely without him noticing. It wasnât the most professional picture ever, but it was also not blurry and it looked weirdly natural. âIt looks like weâre on a dateâ, you exclaimed happily, but hushed your voice as you noticed some girls reacting to what you had just said. Kyouya seemed irritated at first but then began to understand. âScroll throughâ, you told him, and he did. âPictures of the twinsâ, you explained unnecessarily. âLook me in the eye and tell me those donât look like the pics a girlfriend would take.â Kyouya smiled, before looking back up at you. That was smart. And no one had even noticed, which would make the pictures even easier to sell, since none of the other hosts would complain too much. You were really quite something. Maybe he had underestimated you, not that he would ever admit to that. You saw the sparkle in his eyes and grinned confidently. For a moment the both of you were just looking at each other, trying to read each others expressions or even minds, if possible, when suddenly you were interrupted by Tamaki shouting out random things again a little louder than he should have. Kyouya broke the eye contact and sighed. He got up, trying to see what that was about, but not without giving you a quick nod to signal you, that your talk wasnât over yet.
âDamn itâ, you cursed, but got up as well, following Kyouya towards the commotion. The twins and Tamaki were greeting a girl that had partially hidden behind the door. She seemed shy. A new customer? You instantly felt a little bad for her, having not only the twins, but also Tamaki approach you, could be too much for most people. Especially since Tamaki obviously had activated his princely charm. âPlease, you donât have to be afraid, my Princess. I welcome you to the Ouran Host Club.â But the new girl didnât hesitate. Before he could even finish talking she pushed him away, screaming loudly. âNO! Donât touch me! Youâre phony!â Tamaki stumbled back, holding his face in his dramatic fashion. âWh-What do you mean, phony?â, he asked but she didnât let him down easily. You had definitely underestimated her. That girl was everything but shy. âJust what I said, youâre phony! I find it hard to believe that someone like you is the Prince character of this Host Club! You shouldnât go spreading your love around so easily like that, you stupid!â Wow, she really kept going. "You must be a dimwitted narcissist! Youâre incompetent! Youâre a commoner! Youâre disgusting!â You waited a second to see if she was done, but had watched in awe as she kept insulting the self-proclaimed king of the club. Tamaki fell down, the other hosts watching him, concerned. Ouch. That hurt. Even Kyouya stepped closer, but only took a brief look at Tamaki, before he turned around to the girl. Realisation hit his features. âCould you beâŠâ Surprised you watched his expression change, before you heard the girl scream again: âKyouya-sama!â She ran towards him, pushing you out of the way and making you stumble backwards. Kyouya saw you fall, but he couldnât react fast enough, for the strange girl had wrapped her arms around his waist. Thankfully, the next thing you felt wasnât the hard floor, but a pair of arms holding you, right before you would have collided with the floor. âThank you, Senpai", you smiled up at Mori, who carefully helped you back to your feet. Your gaze shifted back to Kyouya who had instinctively lifted his hands, trying very hard not to touch the strange girl. Surprised you looked from him down to her, and back up to him. His gaze met yours and he looked like he wanted to say something, but she interrupted. âOh, how Iâve longed to meet you! My one and only Prince Charming.â For the first time since you had started in this host club, you were entirely out of words.
â-
âFiancee?â, the twins yelled in unison. âKyouyaâs?â âYesâ, she confirmed. You kept staring at Kyouya, who had remained silent the entire time. âKyoyas fiancĂ©eâ, you repeated, the word left a bitter taste in your mouth. âDid you know about this?â, you asked Haruhi, who sat next to you, looking at least as confused as you were. âI had no ideaâ, she whispered back, before the new girl continued to speak. âI am Renge Hoshakujiâ, she introduced herself, but you still only stared at Kyouya. Was he really engaged? Maybe all those dramas were right and rich young kids did get engaged by their parents. Or did they choose to get married? No, that couldnât be, the way he had lifted his arms as she hugged him really didnât seem like they were deeply in love with each other. If that was even an emotion Kyouya could feel. âOurs is a story of love at first sight! I couldnât resist the way you were adoring those flowers in the backyard when you thought no one else was looking. And how sweet it was when you reached out to that poor little injured kitten.â âIs she seriousâ, the twins asked. âCould it be that you got the wrong person?â, Haruhi added. You still looked at Kyouya who finally realized your penetrating gaze and looked at you, face unreadable. âNo way! I can recognize my love any where! Heâs a gentleman whoâs kind to everyone but doesnât ask for anything in return! He likes solitude but in fact sometimes he can get lonely!â The twins started yelling in the background, loudly expressing the confusion you all felt. That really did not sound in the slightest like Kyouya. Did he lead a secret life none of you knew about? You thought for a second, before you decided to speak up, also to hopefully calm down the twins a little. âIf youâre engaged, why have you never met?â, you asked, and it worked. Everything went silent and the hosts looked surprised. âWhat?â, you asked. âIsnât that obvious? She obviously needed a while to even recognize him and that description⊠No offense, but thatâs not Kyouya.â âNone takenâ, he said, seeming almost pleased that his reputation hadnât suffered too much from her words. âShe is rightâ, Hikaru started. âBut it is quite common to get engaged without meeting the partner.â Your mouth formed a small âoâ and you looked at Kyouya, furling your brows. He noted your expression and couldnât help but wonder what you were thinking. Were you ⊠worried? Renge didnât even give anyone else the chance to react, though, because she almost immediately resumed speaking as if she hadnât listened to a single word either of you were saying. âHe looks like the star of the popular dating sim Uki Doki Memorial! Youâre my real life Ichijo Miyabi!â She pointed at Kyouya, and suddenly the coin dropped. âUki âŠâ â⊠Doki âŠâ âMemorial?â âOtaku!â, yelled Tamaki and the others followed suit. âI get it nowâ, Kyoya spoke up, âyouâre in love with that character. Youâre projecting that love onto me, and somehow deluded yourself into thinking that weâre engaged. I assume this Miyabi character probably wears glasses as well.â âAh my real Prince Charming! Ichijo Miyabi! I canât wait to get married! And weâre gonna have the prettiest babies ever!â You felt the sweat drop from your forehead. Now she was already talking about babies. âSo she made iit up, youâre not really her fiancĂ©, right?â, Tamaki stated and Kyoya shook his head. âWell no, I donât remember ever asking for her hand in marriage.â He thought for a while. âBesides, this is the first time Iâve ever met the woman.â Everybody stopped dead in their tracks, glaring at Kyouya angrily. Including you. âYou could have mentioned you werenât engaged ages agoâ, you yelled at him, mad that he had made you worried in the first place. You sighed angrily and looked away. âI was worriedâ, you whispered, but Renge interrupted you again and this time you let her push you out of the way. You trained your eyes on the ground, not really knowing why all of this bothered you so much in the first place. Suddenly, you felt a hand on your shoulder. âHe really could have said so soonerâ, Kaoru said, squeezing your shoulder slightly while rolling his eyes and you smiled up at him. He must have heard you. "Thanksâ, you whispered, and Kaoru blushed a little, but kept his hand where it was. âReally, the last person you should ever worry about is Kyouyaâ, he continued, making you chuckle. He grinned at you, before his brother caught his attention again. For a moment you thought about just leaving, but Renge was already back in action. Kyoya had gotten up, too, seemingly to get his notebook, but something told you he just wanted to bring some distance between him and her without seeming rude. He stopped next to you as Renge finished her monologue. âIâve made up my mind! From now on, Iâm gonna be the manager of this host club!â Everybody sighed. âThat was an option?â, you whispered. Kyouya shrugged. âYou didnât ask for that position.â You shot him another unbelieving glance, before you got up, now feeling the need to bring a little distance between him and yourself. A bit overwhelmed, you decided to step next to Haruhi. Maybe she could help you feel a little more sane around here. âIs it always like this?â She sighed, watching the scene unfold infront of her. âMostly, yeah.â
Tamaki joined your corner and stepped inbetween Haruhi and Kyouya. He obviously was just as taken aback by the sudden attack of the lady manager. âUhm, listen, KyouyaâŠâ, he started, but got interrupted almost immediately. âMiss Houshakuji is the only daughter of a very important Ootori family client", Kyouya explained with a smile. âSo please be polite and try not to offend her alright?â You scoffed which earned you a reprimanding glance from the host clubâs director. But you didnât care and instead just looked away and decided to take care of your tea again. You really didnât feel like acting like a clown for some random girl popping in and pushing herself on everybody like that. You picked up your tray and some empty tea cups. She had just waltzed in here, claiming Kyouya was her fiancĂ© and that sheâd be the clubâs new manager. You felt a pang of jealousy in your chest. Probably because of the manager thing. A tea cup fell out of your hand. You stared for a moment at the shards on the ground, before you sighed and began picking up the broken fragments. That would cost you at least a 1.000 Yen. Silently, you continued cleaning up, not feeling Kyoyas observant eyes on your back.

Whatâs in it for me?
Chapter 1/?: She doesnât even go here
Masterlist
Pairing: Kyouya Ootori x Reader Author: see-the-fandom-imagines Warnings: None at all. Word Count: 3244 A/N: I rewatched OHSHC and I almost forgot how amazing it was. Is this fandom still active I wonder?
You scoffed slightly annoyed and checked your wristwatch as you stared up at the Ouran High School. Up close the building really was impressive. Nonetheless had you been waiting for Haruhi now for more than twenty minutes and she completey ignored your texts. You knew she had joined a new club, something with music, but she didnât really like talking about it, so you didnât press. However, you started to get slightly annoyed. If she had known that practice would have taken longer today, she could have just told you so. You took a deep breath and decided to wait another ten minutes and if you hadnât heard anything by then you would simply march in there and go look for her.
âGod damnit, this school is enormousâ, you whispered as you made your way through the hallways, people staring at you due to your different uniform, but you chose not to notice. You had had enough after your encounter with a real guard at the entrance, who you had managed to sneak past, while he was answering some questions from a few other girls. You felt like he could pop up everywhere. âMusic she saidâŠâ, you mumbled, walking on through the enormous school, and decided the smartest thing would probably be to look for a music room. âAh, excuse meâ, you stopped two girls passing you, whispering. They flinched slightly when you talked to them. You werenât quite sure if you had actually startled them or if they were just really taken aback by your uniform. Based on their looks probably the latter. You were a trespasser, but still ⊠That felt a little bit rude. I know I am not that rich, but do I look that terrible? You decided to ignore that voice in your head. You were a woman with a mission. âSorry, I didnât mean to startle you. It is just ⊠I am looking for Fujioka Haruhi?â âHaruhi-kun?â, the girls asked and blinked a few times. Kun? You thought for a second, but then determined that they must be third years or something. âYeahâ, you confirmed, âwe were supposed to meet today, but I canât find Haruhiâs clubâŠâ The girls looked at each other for a second, they still seemed very confused even if less than before. At least the mystery about your uniform had been cleared up for them as it seemed, because their posture relaxed a little. âYou got to go to music room 3â, one of the girls said, smiling now, but still eyeing you curiously. âItâs upstairs and to the left. Are you Haruhiâs girlfriend or something?â âAh, thanks so much!â, you said smiling and bowed, deciding to absolutely ignore her last comment, before taking off, leaving the girls behind you.
âThis must be itâ, you murmured, before pushing open the door that was labeled Musicroom 3. The light blinded you a little when you opened the door and although you hadnât quite been sure what to expect based on Haruhiâs terrible description of her club, it certainly wasnât this. What you certainly hadnât imagined, was a room full of girls, having tea, snickering and a few guys here and there. You blinked a few times, looking around. What kind of club was this? But you didnât have a lot of time to ask yourself what was going on, because suddenly two light-haired twins appeared in front of you. âHuhâ, one of them said, tugging at your uniform. âWho are you?â, the other one asked, tugging from the other side. âSo this is what poor people wear to school?â âThatâs not even real cotton.â You stumbled back a few steps, your back hitting the door that had closed behind you, slightly taken aback about the people who had just deciding touching you was alright. You opened your mouth to speak, but were interrupted by a blond-haired boy stalking in your direction. âOh my!â, he yelled approaching you. Your eyes widened in terror. What the heck. âHas my fame travelled so far that even maidens from other schools are looking for me?â âFame?â, you asked, not sure, what he was getting at. âYouâre Tamakiâ, you concluded, and he grinned, kneeling down in front of you. âYou really want a girl that is dressed so cheaply in our club, boss?â, the twins asked in unison. âH-Hey, that was expensive!â, you muttered, and immediately regretted it as Tamaki appeared again out of thin air. âDo not embarrass the fair little maiden! Although the cost of this uniform is mere peanuts for us, we got to respect the little people and their financial struggles.â You werenât sure if you should feel insulted again. âMy princess. I cannot believe you have come all this way to visit me.â âI didnâtâ, you said very dry-mouthed, making the twins chuckle and the blond guy freeze at your cold tone. âBut⊠you know my nameâ, he stuttered and you nodded. âYes, butâŠâ Suddenly another voice rang out, as a black-haired boy with a notebook in his hand approached you. âYou must be (y/n)â, he concluded and you nodded, slightly overwhelmed by all these people. How did he know your name again? Haruhi must have told him about you waiting for her. âHuh?â, the twins asked in unison, appearing in front of you again, this time facing the boy with glasses. âHow do you know her, Kyouya?â âYeah, she goes to a completely different school and not a good one based on how she looks.â âHey!â, you exclaimed, but Kyouya didnât even react to their insult towards you. He must be thinking the same. âHavenât you noticed?â, he simply said, scribbling something down. âShe is wearing the uniform of the local Adachi Nishi Senior High School. Location-wise this is the closest school to Nishiwaseda Junior High School, Haruhiâs former school. Given that and the fact that Haruhi has mentioned that she needs to leave early, plus the most frequently contacted contact in her phone after her father is listed under the name (y/n) I do assume that this is the young woman standing here in front of us.â He said all of this matter-of-factly and without looking up. You looked up at him with big eyes. As weird as it was that he knew all this, his conclusions had been kind of impressive. But wait⊠Did he just say⊠âYou went through my phone?â, you could hear Haruhiâs voice as she approached you, but Kyouya just shrugged. âI merely saw the name pop up several timesâ, he said, barely noting how upset Haruhi was at that. Haruhi sighed, before turning to you. âWhat are you doing up here?â âMe?â, you asked, still a bit overwhelmed, as you realized everybody in the room was staring at you now. Including two other boys and all the girls. âIâŠâ, you stuttered before shaking your head to get back into reality. âWe were supposed to meet half an hour ago, but you werenât there and also didnât pick up your phone soâŠâ She looked at the clock outside and realisation hit her, while you were still talking, when suddenly you noticed something. âBut Haruhi, why are you wearing that uniform? Isnât thatâŠâ âWe gave it to himâ, the dark-haired boy interrupted you, âit will be added to his existing debt, of course.â âDebt?â, you murmured and you looked around the room, then back at Haruhi and at the dark-haired boy. âHow did you make it past the Security Guard, by the way? I am sure he wouldnât have let you through like that?â Slowly you looked up at the boy apparently named Kyouya, who was still scribbling into his booklet, a smile plastered on his face, but you werenât fooled. That was a threat. You didnât understand what exactly was going on, but you definitely understood that there was a reason Haruhi was wearing a boyâs uniform and if you even so much thought about saying anything about it, he would kick you out. Suddenly it also made sense, that the girls had called her âkunâ earlier. âAh, yeahâ, you nodded quickly, as you saw the confused looks of the girls. âI hadnât seen it yet, cause Haru-ch⊠Haruhi-kun always gets changed before we meet.â You felt the piercing look of the raven-haired boy of you. He was smiling, obviously pleased, that you had picked up on the situation so quickly.
âSo, you are Haruhiâs friend from Middle School?â The blonde guy had appeared again, and you nodded. âYeah⊠and we were supposed to get some ice cream and study together, butâŠâ âSo you knew my name, cause Haruhi was talking so much about me?â His eyes basically turned into hearts as he said that. âThat makes Daddy so happy!â Slowly this all started to get a little bit too much for you. âI knew your name, because you seemed like the most annoying one here, so I figured.â He stopped in his happiness and seemed to collapse under the word âannoyingâ. You felt a little bad, but at least it was quiet for a second. âHaruhiâ, you said and you smiled at her, ignoring her exhausted expression, âmay I talk to you for a second?â
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Haruhi had nodded, but Kyouya had interrupted as usual. "You may talk once all our dear guests have left.â That sickly sweet smile appeared again. âWe do not want to burden them with our issues. I am sure you have some time, right?â You sighed. You knew you couldnât win against that guy, so you just nodded. Defeated you had sat down on one of the couches, and immediately found yourself surrounded by a bunch of girls and the rest of the hosts. âSo you went to middle school with Haruhi-kun?â, one of them asked. âUh, yes.â âWhat was he like? Do you have any pictures? I bet he looked so cute in a commonerâs uniform.â âWellâ, you started, looking at Haruhi from across the room and ignoring the comment about the quality of your school uniform. âI guess Haruhi has been the same as now. He always studied hard. Sometimes too hardâ, you chuckled at the memory. âSometimes he wouldnât notice the most obvious things.â Your gaze darted to the blonde haired host who was still sulking, but appeared to be listening intensely. You wondered in how far this character trade of Haruhi applied here, too. âPicturesâŠâ, you trailed off, feeling the eyes of the ravenette burn into your back. You began to chuckle awkwardly. âI got a new phone so I must have deleted them all.â The girls made some disappointed noises, but Kyouya went back to scribbling something in his booklet, walking past your couch. âToo bad, these things happen.â âYeah, crazyâ, you said, rolling your eyes, earning you a raised eyebrow from him, but you didnât care.
âSo, youâre also poor.â The twin that said to your right stated and you slowly turned your head towards him. How rude. âOf course, look at that uniform.â Now you looked at the other one. How did Haruhi survive this. âWell, not poorâŠâ, you said, but were interrupted again, as the younger blonde host appeared in front of you. You blushed a little. He was really cute. The boy grinned at you, and you were thankful that at least one person here seemed to not want to offend you. Smiling he offered you a piece of his cake. âHere!â Confused you blinked. âThis is really good cake, and since you cannot buy it so often you can have mine!â So much to not wanting to offend you. The girls started squealing, whereas you still tried to figure out if that was nice or also very rude. âMitsukuniâ, a dark voice spoke up and you looked up to the other dark-haired host that had kept to the background so far and had suddenly appeared behind the boy. âDonât say it like that.â The younger boy looked like he was about to cry. "What? Really, did I say something bad?â Yet again overwhelmed you quickly grabbed the cake. You really didnât want to be responsible for making him cry. âOh, no, no, itâs fineâ, you assured quickly. âThank you so much.â The boy smiled again and also the taller guy gave you a smile that you returned gladly. You decided that fighting your situation wouldnât help right now. You would just have to survive until Haruhi was free to go and she could explain everything to you. You picked up the fork that was lying on the plate, and picked up a piece of cake to shove it in your mouth. It was heavenly sweet, just the right amount. The little boy had been right, you didnât get the chance to eat food this good so often. But you also felt like you couldnât let them win, so you tried very hard not to show too much just how delicious it was. But this was the best goddamn cake youâve ever eaten. You saw the twins staring at you mischievously from the side. If you admitted to that they would never let you hear the last of it. Mori, meanwhile, noticed the slight pause you made, while eating the cake and smiled a little, placing a few cookies in front of you. With big eyes you looked at him, but he didnât comment on it and instead followed Mitsukuni who had already ran away towards Haruhi to also offer her some of your cake. Surprised you looked after the young man who seemed to be the only one not too affected by your status as a commoner.
Finally, all the girls had left the club and it was just you, the boys and Haruhi left. âSoâ, you concluded their explanations, âyou broke a highly expensive vase, they thought you were a boyâ, you side-eyed the hosts, âand now you got to work here as a host until you paid off your debt?â Haruhi sighed, collapsing a bit into herself. âThatâs about it.â You were silent for a while. âAnd why didnât you tell me about it?â, you asked, almost already knowing the answer. She shrugged. âI donât know. I guess, I didnât really think it was important.â You pinched the bridge of your nose. âHaruhi, we gotta talk about priorities again. When you complained about that guyâ, you said, pointing to Tamaki, sending an arrow straight through his heart, âyou could have mentioned he is the leader of a Host club!â You sighed, letting yourself fall down back on the couch. Being mad at Haruhi wouldnât help and you also knew you didnât have the right to actually be mad. She didnât choose this and you knew she would rather eat her own leg than inconvenience anyone with her problems. âAlrightâ, you suddenly spoke up, sitting up straight again. âHow much debt is left?â, you asked Kyouya directly. If someone knew the numbers, well then it was the guy with the notebook. âExactly 7 million and 281.928.â You nodded slowly, trying not to show, how much that number affected you. Gosh, that was so much money. âAlright thenâ, you said, looking at Haruhi for a brief second, before fixating back on Kyouya. âLet me work here.â That actually made him look up from his notebook and you could feel the stares of all the other hosts on you as well. âYou canât be a hostâ, one of the twins said. âYeah, youâre a girl.â âI knowâ, you said, still not looking at anyone else than Kyouya. âBut it appears you could do with an errand girl or something.â Kyouya raised an eyebrow. âWhy would you think that.â You shrugged. âWell apparently she was supposed to be your âdogâ or something.â You looked over to your friend who looked like she was about to say something, but you wouldnât let her interrupt. âAnd I think she is struggling enough. So I would like to help her.â In the background you heard the twins whisper. "A part-time job.â âMakes sense, since she is poor, she needs to work extra.â âHow sad.â âYeah, really sad.â You decided to ignore them.
âYou want to work here, to help her pay off her debtâ, Kyouya concluded and you nodded. Haruhi grabbed your arm. â(Y/n), donât do that! Really, I can make do!â You ignored her. âSo?â You were waiting for an answer from Kyouya. He smirked, and for the first time you got the feeling that he was actually looking at you. âWhatâs in it for you?â You shrugged. âNot much, to be honest, but Haruhi helped me out so many times. Itâs time to return the favour.â Haruhi stared at you in awe. â(Y/n)âŠâ Kyouya nodded. Paying back favours was something he could understand. âWell, thatâs not on me to decide, the other club members will have to ââ But he didnât even get to finish talking, because immediately the twins chimed in. âA new toy sounds funâ, one said, grinning at you and wrapping his left arm around you. âEspecially one that we can order around.â The other one wrapped his other arm around you. You already regretted this. âI think it would be nice, if Haru-Haru had a friend hereâ, Honey exclaimed. âAnd she can eat a lot more cake with us!â Well the regret vanished a bit. Mori smiled at you and just nodded. You looked at Kyouya who had noticed the interest everyone seemed to have in you. He would lie if he wasnât intrigued by this himself. An errand girl, free of pay, that could give him valuable information about Haruhi and also might bring more people in. âYou could proof yourself as valuableâ, he said, putting up the fake smile he had already worn earlier. You really couldnât read the guy. Now it all was on Tamaki. The whole Host Club, including you, turned their gaze at the blonde, still lying at the ground. Maybe you should have insulted him less. He didnât move for a second, before looking at you, then back at Haruhi and back at you. Of course. That was it. Immediately, you knew how you could convince him. He was a lot easier to read than Kyouya, so much was sure. âYou know", you started dramatically and a bit louder than you would have had to, âI just want to support Haruhi and you know how important friends are.â He moved. That was it. You got him âWe have been best friends since Elementary School, so I have a lot of storiesâ, his head shot up, âpicturesâŠâ He had recovered fully. Suddenly he was kneeling in front of you, holding your hands in his. â(Y/n)! A female friend is exactly what my daughter needs!â âDaughter?â, you asked, but he ignored you. âI accept you as our errand girl, only the best for Haruhi! And if she remembers her lovely days in school, maybe she will get back to feeling more like a girl!â You nodded, although you knew that wouldnât happen. Haruhi had never cared much about gender. Thatâs what happened when you grew up with Ranka, you guessed, and you fully understood her in that regard. Haruhi just sighed, she didnât even comment. She knew how good you were in reading people, of course you had figured out Tamakiâs soft spot immediately. Well, not that he was a closed book to anyone. âSo, Iâm in?â, you asked, looking at Kyouya, who had also noticed how quickly you had found the right words to say to Tamaki. You would be useful for the club, certainly, but he suddenly also was intrigued personally. âYou start tomorrow.â

You never thought you would be sitting in your apartment for a living.
Well, technically, that's not what you do for a living, but it might as well be.
You work from home, with extremely short hours and a paycheck that's nothing to write home about. You could do your job from an office, but why bother? Most of the 8 hours you would work, you'd be sitting at your desk with nothing to do, your brain going numb from lack of stimulation.
Although you don't enjoy having virtual meetings with strangers, that's basically your entire job â you are a virtual history tutor, after all.
You never wanted to be a teacher but you still wanted to pass your extensive knowledge on to other generations, so you figured either being a substitute teacher or a tutor would suffice. And when the school you applied to mentioned an online tutor position, you snatched it up and ran with it.
Of course, you had a job before this. And it definitely wasn't your dream job. Before your passion for teaching arose, you took one of the first jobs you found available that called you for an interview. The secretary of a prestigious CEO of... a company that you're not quite sure what they did (you called it your Devil Wears Prada moment). You vaguely remember copying data and putting things in color-coded folders, but the position was brutal. You were set with impossible tasks and goals that your immediate superiors struggled to reach (truly, your Devil Wears Prada moment). You contemplated swerving your car into oncoming traffic every day on your way to work at 6:30 in the morning (obviously you didn't, too many innocent lives would have been put in danger).
But, at least, that's where you met-
Knock, knock, knock-knock-knock... knock, knock
Your ears immediately perk up and you turn your head toward the front door from your position on the sofa in the living room. There's only one soul alive that would knock on your door in that fashion.
You shut your laptop rather hastily and leap up to answer the door, sliding through the kitchen and the entry foyer in your socks to get there. Honestly, the distance from the front door to your workspace could have been considered a 5k marathon (no it's not, you're just out of shape).
You don't even have to glance at the peephole before you open the door to reveal-
"y/n! Oh, my dear, how are you?" You're immediately pulled into a crushing embrace and a comforting scent surrounds you.
"Mom?" You gawk, slowly encircling your arms around her to return the hug.
"I know I probably should have called but when I thought about doing it, I was already at your door. And I have to say, this is quite the upgrade!" Your mother wanders in without an invite, in awe of the clean, neat appearance of your apartment.
Well, penthouse. You take up the entire 58th floor at the top of your building. The elevator requires a reading of your house key-card to even press the button. It opens up right in front of your door.
... how did she get up here?
"How on earth did you get up here?" You voice your thoughts as her mother discards her walking shoes beside your own, slipping on a pair of guest slippers.
"I told the man in the lobby I was your mother and you would not believe the convincing I had to do to get him to let me up. He even needed my ID!"
"Well, yeah, because you don't live here-"
"Would you look at this place! My god, y/n, how do you keep it so clean? Not a speck of dust!" Your mother, true to her nature, swipes a finger across a nearby decorative table and it comes up absolutely spotless.
"Thanks, I mean it's not-"
"You even have a foyer! And a kitchen that doesn't double as the dining room!" Your mother wanders into the next room faster than you can process her presence.
"Mom, what are-" You try to best to follow her, slipping and sliding over the wooden floors in your fluffy socks.
"Really, y/n, I never pegged you to like modern furniture! I thought you liked a little character in your possessions. But, I must say, it's much better than I imagined your living situation to be." She strolls into the living room next, gawking at the mere size.
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?" You frown, relieved that she seems to have finally picked a room to settle in. She sets her enormous bag on the sofa.
"What are you even doing here? Not that I don't appreciate the surprise visit..." You save quickly, smiling sheepishly at the glare she briefly sends your way.
"I wanted to see you of course. But..." She digs through her purse and pulls out a Macbook. "I came for an explanation for this." She all but waves it around. You wince.
"Careful. Why do you need an explanation for that? You mentioned you needed a better laptop and your birthday was coming up so I thought-"
"Exactly! It's perfect, it's everything I could have ever dreamed of in a laptop!" Your mother scolds. You tilt your head.
"... is that a problem?" You blink owlishly.
"First it was the watch for your father's birthday, then the mountain of stuffed animals for your little sister for Christmas, and now this!" Your mother sighs, crossing her arms after setting the Macbook on the coffee table.
"Wha- I'm sorry, I think I'm missing what the fuss is about. I tell you guys to send me your lists and you never do, so I'm sorry if it's not what you wanted-"
"It is what we wanted, that's why I'm here!" She retaliates.
"Okay, Mom, you're going to have to calm down and tell me what the problem is because I am clearly missing something here." You lead her to the coffee table, where you both lower yourselves to the floor, cross your legs, and sit beneath it.
She takes a deep, calming breath, "I'm just concerned is all. Your last job was enough for you to live and have a fair amount of money to spare, but you don't even work there anymore." Your mother places both hands on the table, avoiding your eye.
"You're right, I don't work for them anymore." You quirk a brow, curious as to where this is going.
"And now you're an online tutor who barely works more than a few hours per day, sometimes a week! So... I'm just curious..." She sighs, shaking her head.
"How are you getting the money for all of this? This is a multimillion dollar penthouse, you sent your father a 7,000 dollar watch, and you sent me a laptop worth at least a few thousand dollars." Your mother finally meets your eyes.
Before you can respond, she reaches across the table and grabs you by the shoulders.
"Just tell me the truth. Are you selling drugs? Are you stripping? Are you doing drugs? Because whatever it is, I'm sure I can talk my way into gaining your innocence in a courtroom but you have to come clean-"
"Mom! I'm not doing anything illegal!" You exclaim adamantly, shrugging her grip off your shoulders.
"Are you in credit card debt? Your father warned you about things like this, and I always thought you were a modest spender but-"
"Mom, listen to me, okay? I'm not in debt. I'm not stripping. I'm not doing drugs." You take both of her hands in yours and speak calmly. She nods, still looking a little confused.
"Then how are you getting all of the money for this?" She asks.
You chew your lip, "Well... it's not really my money-"
Just as you begin your explanation, the front door opens and shuts loudly, the sound of dress shoes click loudly against the wooden floors.
"Honey, there's someone in your house." Your mom steadies herself, reaching for her purse like she's got some sort of weapon.
"Mom? Mom!" You hiss quietly as she starts to get up.
"I'm home, darling! Are you in the living room?"
Your mother blinks at the voice calling from the foyer.
"Yeah, I'm in here!" You reply in a trembling voice, your brain trying to decide whether or not you should greet your boyfriend or calm your mother first.
Before either of you can open your mouths again, the body attached to the voice calling for you appears in the doorway.
Kyoya sheds his blazer, leaving him clad in his button up shirt tucked into his dress pants as he tosses it onto the coat rack beside him.
"I was- oh." Kyoya finally looks up, meeting your eyes first, then the worried, albeit confused, eyes of your mother.
"I'm sorry, I hope I wasn't interrupting anything." Kyoya bows politely at the presence of someone unfamiliar to him.
Your mother's instincts cause her to return the bow where she's sitting, still completely lost.
"You're not, darling." You get up from your place at the table to greet him.
Kyoya welcomes you eagerly, pressing a chaste kiss to your lips, bewildering your mother further, before making eye contact with her again.
"This must be your mother. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. l/n. I've heard so much about you." Kyoya bows once more, a bit more deeply.
Your mother blinks, eyes glancing between you and Kyoya with haste.
"Mom, this is Kyoya Ootori... my boyfriend." You allow Kyoya to place a respectful arm around your back.
"Your what?" She blurts. You grimace. You knew you'd have to tell her sooner or later, but most of your high school boyfriends were intimidated by her and her doting nature.
And the fact that your father threatened to end their lives if they ever laid a finger on you.
"My boyfriend..." You sigh, almost like a scolded child.
"Ah, that reminds me. A flower for you, my dear." Kyoya sets down the shopping bag he was holding and his briefcase, handing you a rose.
"Oh, it's so pretty. Thank you." You'd rather Kyoya brought you individual flowers than an expensive bouquet since you're god-awful at keeping them alive. You peck his cheek.
"Oh, and before I forget. I saw this in a store window on my way home and I couldn't help but imagine how well it would paired with that black dress you know I like so much. I thought you could wear it to dinner." Kyoya pulls out a large, black velvet box from the shopping bag and turns toward you.
"Kyoya, we've talked about this-"
"I know. You don't like when I spend money on you but I just couldn't help myself." He opens the box to reveal a necklace glittering with diamonds, more than you can count. It glimmers in the light and you're afraid to even touch it, let alone wear it.
"Oh, my god, this must have cost a fortune." Your jaw goes slack. Your mother nosily peers over your shoulder and gasps loudly.
"It's worth nothing if you aren't wearing it." Kyoya smiles. A pretty pink hue dusts your cheeks at the compliment as your heart flutters.
"Thank you, my love. It's breathtaking." You gently take the box from him so he can gather his own things.
"Would your mother like to join us for dinner? I'm sure they won't mind moving us to a different table." Kyoya inquires innocently.
Your mother in question is still completely baffled by all of this.
"So... so you're dating my daughter? And... you're rich?" Your mother blurts.
"Mom!" You scold.
Kyoya chuckles, "I'm under the impression you hadn't been told about me. My apologies."
"Kyoya!" You scold him next.
"And... and this is... your house?" Your mother gestures to your surroundings.
"Yes, ma'am." Kyoya nods affirmatively.
"I moved in about... I want to say two months ago or so." You shrug. Kyoya nods.
"And how long have you been dating exactly?" She quirks a brow.
You nearly cringe at your answer, "... a year."
"A YEAR?" Your mother all but shrieks, earning a wince from you.
"Mom, it's not a big deal-" You reach for her to calm her down.
"It is a big deal! You've been seeing this gorgeous man with a mansion behind my back!" She gestures wildly to Kyoya, who blinks at her, brows raised at her reaction.
"Not behind your back! You never asked!" You insist.
"That's because you swore off men in high school after that boy stood you up-"
"WE don't have to talk about that." You want to shove your hands over her mouth. Kyoya quirks a brow quietly from behind you.
You sigh, "I met him while I was a secretary. He owns a portion of his father's company and was scheduled to meet with my boss."
That's the only thing you're thankful to that secretary position for. Your boss had buzzed for you to prepare two cups of tea for him and his guest. Once you brought them their tea, your attention was stolen by the man sitting across from your superior. Luckily, you didn't drop any of the china on your way in once you caught sight of him. After Kyoya was finished meeting with your boss, he struck up a light conversation with you that had your heart soaring. Simply basking in his beauty and powerful nature made you swoon.
Kyoya returned to your boss's office far more often than he ever needed to after his first interaction with you. He appeared at your desk, asking for your boss when these types of things could have definitely been handled over the phone. At first he didn't understand why he did it, but he soon realized his feelings for you when he caught himself asking you to dinner on his way out one day.
"I still don't understand why you didn't tell me you were dating this man. Let alone living with him." Your mother finally calms down enough to have your heart aching with guilt.
"I meant to, Mom, but I just... I guess I was afraid of how you'd react." You admit finally, fidgeting with your fingers.
"Kyoya helps me pay for you gifts because I want the best for you. But honestly, he can get you much nicer things than I pick out... I'm pretty sure he can buy you a house." You mutter your last sentence.
Your mother laughs, "If my daughter likes him, I like him. Come here, Kyoya." She strides forward and pulls Kyoya down for a tight embrace.
Kyoya nearly chokes, clearly rendered speechless by her sudden show of affection. He manages to reciprocate despite his shock.
"Thank you. I can assure you, I only want the best for your daughter. I'm sorry we haven't met sooner." Kyoya grins.
He has contemplated reaching out to your mother by himself despite your adamant disapproval. But he hated the idea of going behind your back to do anything at all, so he kept to himself.
"It's alright, dear. I'd love to get to know you better. Are you sure I wouldn't be a bother at dinner?" Your mother returns to the woman you know and love.
"Not at all." You shake your head, a wide grin spreading to your lips.
"I'll call the the driver, tell him to bring around the SUV rather than the Benz." Kyoya pulls out his cellphone.
"A driver?" Your mother gasps, placing a hand over her chest and glancing to you for confirmation. You nod, biting your lip eagerly.
Once Kyoya's sent the short message, your mother slots herself beside him and curls her arm around his.
"So, Kyoya, you own your father's company?" The two of them walk in the direction of your shared bedroom, side by side. You watch as they leave you standing in the living room.
"Just a portion of it, yes. We're in the medical business, you see, managing hospitals and..." Kyoya's voice fades off into the house. He doesn't seem to mind your mother's sudden attention in the slightest, even switching his jacket to his other arm to accommodate her like the gentleman he is.
You purse your lips, glancing down once more to the velvet box in your hands and you're reminded that you need to start getting ready for dinner. You follow them, rolling your eyes as you hear your mother start to ask about just how well Kyoya's been treating you.
This is going to be the longest dinner of your life.
