A Smarter Moldova- Stage Round!
“All people desire to make it to the stage but only a few who battle the odds, Deserve it!”
Smart cities have become a key notion of many urban decision-makers and their respective development agendas. This concept is relatively new, in ongoing development and covers a variety of topics, thus it lacks an agreed definition.
Smart cities can improve the efficiency of city services by eliminating redundancies, finding ways to save money and streamlining workers’ responsibilities. The results can provide higher-quality services at lower cost.
Moldova is an Eastern European landlocked nation that is bordered by Ukraine and Romania. The country suffered a major economic setback after the breakup of the USSR. The major objective of the Moldavian government has been to stabilize the economy and recover the financial status of the country.
Being the executive management of a contracting company, your task at hand is to prepare a tender proposal for the Government of Republic of Moldova to implement the smart city concept in the capital of Moldova, Chișinău.
Your task should include but should not be restricted to:
• Proper segmentation of your plan
• Details of facilities and services which will be implemented under the smart city plan (don’t keep yourself restricted to the general concept of smart city. Be as creative as you can)
• Phase- wise plan of the proposed project
• Since it is a tender proposal to the government, it should include, detailed financials for the same
• Sources of revenue (if any) along with the financials for the same.
• Cost- benefit analysis of the project
• Describe in what means and ways this project that you are undertaking is going to effect the economy of the country
Prepare a report (PDF) and a PPT of not more than 12 slides.
Submission Details:
Submissions on 12th July, 7:00 am sharp
Prepare 3 spiral bind copies of your report
P.S.- Only the Top 5 participants who go on stage will be able to present this round. If you think you can make it, Just Do It!

Crypt-Your-Currency!
A cryptocurrency is a digital currency that is created and managed through the use of advanced encryption techniques known as cryptography. Cryptocurrency made the leap from being an academic concept to reality with the creation of bitcoin in 2009. Bitcoin was the first decentralised cryptocurrency. Since then, numerous other cryptocurrencies have been created. These are frequently called altcoins. As of 2017, over a thousand cryptocurrency specifications exist; most are similar to and derived from the first fully implemented decentralised cryptocurrency, Bitcoin. The most prominent cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Monero, and Ripple.
An Initial coin offering, usually abbreviated as ICOs are the cryptocurrency equivalent of Initial Public Offerings (IPOs). An ICO solves the basic problem of initial coin distribution. In an ICO, a company uses blockchain technology to issue cryptocurrency and offer it for sale to investors in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. 2017 has been a record year for successful ICOs. For example, The Bancor Foundation raised $153 million in three hours. There are a number of reasons companies are turning to ICOs over traditional options. The growing preference towards an ICO can be attributed to: It opens up a global market of potential investors; it involves lower costs to address a large market; it offers increased liquidity.
The block chain community demands a White Paper for every new project. A white paper is akin to an investment prospectus. It is an explanation of the purpose of the cryptocurrency, the problem that the coin is intended to solve. A whitepaper is put out on the website to attract buyers to the Initial Coin Offering (ICO), which is typically used to raise the operating capital for the project.
Participants have to create a white-paper to provide a new solution for an existing financial problem. The white-paper must include facts rather than opinions.
The white-paper must include:
• Name and code of token
• Problem being addressed
• About the crypto token
• Features of the token
• Historic cost breakup and projected cost breakup
• Revenue Model
• Token Price (per token)
• Payment Procedure
• Total Supply and Token Distribution
• Minimum and Maximum Token Purchase
• Token Sale timeline
• Risks of the crypto token’s ICO
• All other relevant information & financials
Prepare a report (PDF) of not less than 10 pages and a PPT of not more than 12 slides.

Synergised!
On Feb 27th, 2018 Pan-India cement makers Ambuja Cements Ltd and ACC Ltd have put their full-fledged merger on hold. The Ambuja Cements management had first indicated the possibility of a merger in 2013.
On the basis of a comprehensive evaluation carried out by both the Special Committee and the board of directors of the company, the company is of the opinion that there are at present certain constraints in implementing a merger between the company.
Calling off the merger has obviously not gone down well with the Street. Ambuja Cements tumbled up to 4 per cent after the cement makers called off the long due merger.
The prospect of a full merger was keenly awaited and it was perhaps the only company-specific upside trigger for both stocks.
The merger, which would have potentially created India’s second largest cement maker, still remains the “ultimate objective”, Ambuja Cements said.
Task in hand:
You are the CFO of Ambuja Cement. You need to plan a merger or an acquisition of ACC Ltd. or takeover of the company for expanding the business to be a dominant player in the cement industry.
Your report should include but should not be restricted to the following deliverables:
1. Problems/ Constraints faced for the earlier proposed merger
2. Plan & strategise the merger/ acquisition/ hostile takeover of ACC Ltd
3. Identify the shareholding pattern, the deal structure and financial implication of the same
4. Substantiate your plan with relevant benefits for both the parties and related financials for the Valuation of the takeover.
5. Estimated Income Statement & Balance sheet of the merged/ new entity.
Submission Details:
Soft copy Submission by 2 pm on 05th July, 2018 to [email protected]
Hard copy Submission by 4 pm on 05th July, 2018
P.S.- Focus on the financial aspects.
