howdy, this may be a stupid question but I saw a post of yours talking about how men can be lesbians and I'm just a little confused? can some men be lesbians just because they identify with the label? and If people of any gender can be lesbians what does being a lesbian mean? my understanding may be flawed so I would really appreciate help in understanding :3
hello there! not a stupid question!
yep, men can be lesbians simply by identifying with the label, that's all there really is to it! that's how every queer identity except intersex works, in fact! in recent years, we've begun welcoming non binary people into lesbian and gay spaces- so why can't we open the doors to other people? this can be for a variety of reasons why a man would identify as a lesbian, transmascs and trans men who started in the lesbian community and still feel a connection to that identity, bi/multigender men, genderqueer men, genderfluid men, intersex men, bi and pan men who feel like their attraction is gay and lesbian instead of gay and straight, lesbian trans women who are also trans men, the sky is really the limit!
it's a bit complicated to define what terms like "gay" and "lesbian" truly mean, because they don't exist in a static vacuum that can encompass everyone in that given community. every lesbian has a different definition of what lesbian means. many lesbians believe that it strictly means cis women being attracted to cis women, which is definitely not how lesbianism works at all. no two queer people will ever define a queer term the same way. a lesbian is anyone who identifies as one. it can be a queer woman, non binary person, or man, or a gender well beyond that. or no gender at all.
for example, there's a loooooonnnngggg history of trans women who are also gay. many trans women still identify as gay and with the gay community even well after transitioning and not identifying as a man anymore. this has been a well documented experience since the dawn of the modern queer community in the United States, so why can't we extend the same to men and lesbianism?
when i say i'm a lesbian, i mean a lot of things. i do experience queer attraction to women ofc, but for me, lesbianism is about community and expression. it's about my love for other lesbians, dykes and sapphics, not just women. i'm a lesbian-oriented person. i resonate with the community, history, and culture. i feel right at home hearing about other lesbians' struggles and experiences with gender, expression, identity and sexuality. i see myself in other lesbians, dykes, and sapphics, and just because i'm (partially) a man doesn't mean i have to give all of that up!
i hope that makes sense! most queer identities don't have a concrete definition when you get down to brass tacks. for example "genderqueer" is not something that's easily defined at all. people love to argue about what it "really" means but there's no one answer to that. the same goes for lesbianism. the experience is too broad to be able to be defined simply by saying a lesbian is is a woman attracted to women. identity and lived experience is too varied and complex for that
feel free to have any more questions you may have! if you'd like, i highly recommend looking into the life and works of Leslie Feinberg, a transmasculine butch lesbian revolutionary and queer activist who had to transition into manhood in order to feel like hirself as a butch lesbian. zie identified as multigender and never gave up hir lesbian identity, even after living as a man for many years. it was vital to hir butch lesbian identity :) thanks for stopping by, i appreciate you asking!

"Life in Tents: Between War and Rain"
For the first time, winter has become a heavy nightmare instead of a season of rest and tranquility. In these fragile tents that barely withstand the wind, the cold and rain have come to expose their weakness and deepen our suffering.
Last night, we were completely flooded. The ground beneath us turned into a pool, and the rain pierced through the tent, relentlessly falling on our heads. The children shivered from the cold, their small hands desperately seeking warmth amidst soaked blankets. I tried my best to wrap them in my arms, to create a sense of safety in the midst of this fear, but everything around us kept getting worse.
As if wars and destruction weren’t enough, winter has come to complete the harshness of our conditions. The rain seeps through mercilessly, and the cold paralyzes us. Yet, we will endure. We have no choice but to endure, but the situation worsens day by day, and we don’t know what tomorrow will bring under these cruel circumstances.
$6,838 USD / $10,000 USD
Only 162$ left to reach 7,000$
Thank you all❤️

3 fundraisers that still need your help!
Taim's family: "After losing home, 5 members of my family and jobs... we lost everything... our home, our jobs, our security, even the devices we used to work with, due to the devastating war in Gaza. We are now living in dreadful conditions, without a stable shelter or a source of income." -> 2 468 € / 50 000 €
Mohammed Matar: "Suddenly, on October 7, everything turned like a dream. I woke up to the sound of missiles and explosions. My wife was pregnant with my little girl. I tried and escaped from my apartment in Gaza City and headed to the safe areas, which I do not know where they are. The sound of death and destruction is everywhere. [...] In February 2024, my wife was about to give birth. I could not provide clothes for my newborn daughter, nor milk, nor diapers, due to the brutal war and the scarcity of financial resources. Just writing and thinking about this thing makes my condition worse than tragedy." -> 4 855 € / 20 000 €
Maha Madhoun: "Every moment is a battle for survival, with Eman's elderly mother enduring chronic illnesses without access to vital medication. Their escape from the relentless bombardment of warplanes, dodging bullets and navigating through a sea of injured and deceased, is a haunting ordeal etched into their memory. Now, displaced five times, they find themselves in Rafah, where basic necessities are mere dreams." -> 8 875 CAD / 50 000 CAD.

Stop And watch...😓
a short story about the struggle of making bread😔
I am a displaced person from Gaza, facing extremely difficult circumstances. Life here has become unbearable. A bag of flour now costs $100, and it's nearly impossible to find.😭😭💔
We've been forced to buy flatbreads just to survive, but prices rise every day, and everything feels like an overwhelming burden. In these challenging times,
every dollar from you can make a huge difference.😭😭💔
I appeal to you for any amount, no matter how small, as even modest donations can have a significant impact. If you're able to help,
you can't imagine how much your support will ease our suffering. Thank you to anyone who stands by us in this difficult time.💔🍉🍉🤲😭

Help Hazem and his pregnant wife secure a better future 🇵🇸🍉
Dear Humanity,
My name is Hazem, I am 27 years old, and I live in the Gaza Strip with my wife, Nadra, who is 26 and in the early months of pregnancy. We led a simple life; I worked in trade and owned a modest store, while my wife was a daily-wage teacher. But everything changed drastically with the recent war, leaving us no choice but to flee multiple times in search of safety.
We have become used to facing wars, but this time, it’s entirely different. We are experiencing an unrelenting genocide, forcing us into constant displacement from one area to another within Gaza. Today, we find ourselves living in a tent on the streets amid worsening conditions every day.
The pain of loss doesn’t end there; I recently lost my father, and now I live with my beloved mother, whom I care for. My home, for which I hadn’t even completed the payments, was entirely destroyed, along with our family home where I grew up and created my fondest memories. Even my store, built through hard work to provide a dignified life for my family, didn’t survive.
My wife and I have thought a lot about the future of our upcoming child and how life would be for them in these harsh circumstances. The motivation behind launching this GoFundMe campaign is that I am about to become a father, and my wife needs special care during her pregnancy. We hope to provide them with better conditions.
Purpose of the Campaign
The purpose of this GoFundMe campaign is to seek financial assistance for us, as we face unimaginable challenges in the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing war and humanitarian crisis. As we prepare for the arrival of our first child, we urgently need support to:
1. Ensure Safe Conditions for Pregnancy: Nadra requires special care during her pregnancy, and the current living conditions are not suitable for her or the baby.
2. Rebuild Our Lives: After losing our home and livelihood, we need funds to start over and create a stable environment for our family.
3. Provide Basic Necessities: The donations will help secure food, shelter, and medical care, which are essential for both Nadra and our unborn child.
I write to you today seeking your kind support. We are in desperate need of assistance to rebuild our shattered lives and secure a future for our coming child, who deserves to be born into conditions far better than the ones we currently endure. Every donation, no matter how small, will have a tremendous impact on helping us overcome this crisis.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any help you provide, and we ask that you and your loved ones remain safe.
✅️Vetted by @gazavetters , my number verified on the list is ( #282 )
