[ A LETTER FROM THE DEPT. HEAD ] "The War of the Eye has taken a devastating toll on Wizarding New York, but we remain. The magic of New York has survived every trial the world has forced us to face and we will remain resilient through our future. To do so we shall honor our past, our heroes and our lessons learned. I declare that the Magical Congress of the United States of America will conduct a thorough recording of the War of the Eye. These events and those who acted will be put down in our history to be remembered forever. And, from now on my fellow New Yorkers, we shall sleep better than we have for years. We will rebuild our city to be better, for ourselves, our families and our next generation. As we enter this brave, new era, I still caution you all, tread lightly and watch your back." Samuel G. Quahog President of the Magical Congress State of the Union on the 20th of June, 2020

TO: OUR FOLLOWERS FROM: WENDY DUFORT & AURORA SCARBOROUGH
If you have been following us for a while, (first, let us just say, thank you) then you know how long we have been committed to this world. We love it dearly. This world has been an escape for us on the good, the bad and the ugly days. Being able to create people, places and things always brought a smile to our faces. We are and forever will be dedicated to all the possibilities that could come to life here.
However, we all certainly know this is not our world. In our world, we are not two interns in the records department of MACUSA. W.D. works as an analyst. A.F. is a school teacher. The real world gave us multiple expansive breaks since 2015 that have allowed us to get this idea to where it is today. We are very grateful that we’ve had the time to develop this world.
Now, our world has come knocking again. W.D. will be going overseas for six months and will have little to no connection to cell service, let alone the internet. Shortly after, A.F. will be starting the school year juggling, not only teaching but other jobs. This means, for at least the next half year this page will see little to no activity. We sincerely apologize for this. Trust us, if we could continue to manage it, we would.
In the near future, we hope that the crowds will continue to find inspiration in our writing and will fall as deeply into this world as we have. Now, don’t fret too much, we will be back. There is still much to do. This is not goodbye.
And so, without further ado, (to the regulars and the new) witches and wizards, welcome to New York! Tread lightly and enjoy your stay!
Much love, W.D.& A.F.

Not only is the Woolworth building enchanted to appear mundane, but features extensive expansion charms to fit all the different pieces of the magical government together into one place. The busiest wizarding building in America is a sight to behold. As well as a wild maze with vague directions.
Navigating the Woolworth is a daunting task. Departments, floors, and expansions were often built one on top of the other very suddenly. When MACUSA moved to New York City, it was done quick and in a hurry. As MACUSA continues to grow and the world changes around us, the Woolworth will change with us.

The very foundation of the Magical Congress of the United States of America began to form in 1693 as the need to protect the wizarding community of the New World grew alongside that of their population. Despite the cries of injustice regarding particular laws and policies that have been/are still in circulation, It has managed to do just that––though, granted, there have been quite a few bumps along the way.
Just like their no-maj counterparts, the American Wizarding Community takes a great interest in politics as it is the fine line between safety and discovery. Unsurprisingly, due to the no-maj’s unintentional adoption of their political system, magical government works very similarly to that of the no-maj. There are three branches of government:
Legislative – Makes laws. Includes Congress which is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Each state elects two senators while representatives are elected by residents in the respective cardinal district (i.e. there is a Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western Representative for each state).
Executive – Carries outlaws. Includes the President, Vice President, and the Cabinet. The President is elected by the magical citizens of the United States once every four years. The Vice President is selected by the President as a running mate and potential replacement in cases of emergency. The Cabinet is nominated by the President as advisors but must be approved by the Senate; it includes the head of each executive department.
Judicial – Evaluates the law. Includes the Supreme Wizenmagot. The justices of the Supreme Wizenmagot are nominated by the president and must be approved by the Senate while Congress decides the number of justices. Currently, there are seventeen. It should be noted that all cases involving federal law, disputes between two or more states, and the constitutionality of a law are tried in the Supreme Wizenmagot.
A president is elected every four years while members of Congress are elected every two years. All elections are held on November 1st, respectively. Witches and wizards who are citizens of the United States and are over the age of 18 may exercise their right to vote but must be registered to vote at least twenty-eight days before the next election.
When registering for your voters’ card, it is customary that the applicant put which party they are part of. Currently on the forms are the two major parties and a box for independents/undecided. The major parties are as follows:
The United Citizens’ Party – Represented by the Wyvern, magical folk that supports the UCP are often referred to as Reformists and/or Liberals. They have left-wing ideals, supportive of the concept that the AWC can live in harmony alongside no-maj. It was the UCP that opened up negotiations with no-maj President, John F. Kennedy, in the 1960s before his assassination. His death brought upon hard times for the UCP’s battle against Separatism, striking fear in the hearts of witches and wizards all across the United States. Despite the UCP’s success in abolishing Rappaport’s Law in 1965, another period of isolation was ordered and it would be a long time before anyone considered reopening negotiations. To this day, however, many Reformists still believe –– and fight –– for the No-Maj Cooperation Act, hoping it brings an end to Separatism.
The Loyalist Party – Represented by the Gryphon, magical folk that supports the Loyalist Party are often referred to as Loyalists and/or Conservatives. They have right-wing ideals, believing that Separatism is a good thing for the AWC. Although seemingly in possession of a no-maj phobia, most Loyalists just want to ensure that the magical population is safe within its community. There is a large division in the party between its supporters in regards to many of the different laws in place. Some Loyalists –– known as Radical Loyalists –– believe in the absolute division between the AWC and no-maj, even as going as far as suggesting that no-maj born witches and wizards should be forced to leave behind their no-maj roots in favor of the magical community. Other Loyalists –– known as Moderate Loyalists –– believe that there should be very limited interaction between the AWC and no-maj community but only to appease those no-maj born witches and wizards. The Radicals believe the Moderates are filthy sympathizers and often threaten to leave the Loyalist Party completely to form their own. However, they know that the Moderates greatly outnumber the Radicals and that they wouldn’t last a single election without the Loyalist Party’s support.
There are a few other parties in the world of American wizarding politics, however, none have enough support to compete with the likes of the UCP and the Loyalist Party. Although it should be noted, the Civic Independent Party –– otherwise known as the CIP –– is gaining quite the momentum in light of prejudicial tensions amongst the major parties. The CIP is where most politically independent witches and wizards are drawn to as it gives them a voice they would otherwise not have.

While the seven senior wizarding schools are the best known places for magical education in the United States, the local private schools have produced witches and wizards of the most interesting talent. The magic of the Hawai’ian Islands is odd, old, and adaptive - as is the native Islanders. They were teaching magic amoung their people long before they were visited.
The Hawai’ian Islands didn’t officially become a US state until 1959. Before that, the magic folk from the islands weren’t accepted into Ilvermorny until they became a territory in 1900. Ilvermorny saw very few native witches and wizards attend. It wasn’t until the turn of the 21st century that there was a surge of native Hawai’ians in the population of Ilvermorny. This was largely due to the people establishing their own magical educational system that harnessed mana.
Mana is a spiritual energy and healing power which can exist in places, objects, and persons. Hawai’ians believe that mana may be gained or lost by actions, both external and internal. A person may gain mana by pono (right actions). In ancient Hawaii, there were two paths to mana: sexual means or violence. Nature is dualistic, and everything has a counterpart. A balance between the gods Kū and Lono formed, through whom are the two paths to mana (ʻimihaku, or the search for mana). Kū, the god of war and politics, offers mana through violence. Lono, the god of peace and fertility, offers mana through sexuality.
However, it is believed that magic in the islands started with the god Kanaloa. Considered to be the partner god that balanced Kāne, the ruler of the Underworld and a teacher of magic. The story of Kanaloa differs greatly, but some believe he is the source of a third type of mana. Being able to unlock and tame this mana is what is believe to be the source of magic for the people of Hawai’i.
Many families and tribes had elders school the next generation for decades, which then grew into a proper hālau (school). When James Cook visited in 1778, Kanaloa Hālau ‘o Mana had been established for at least 100 years already. Primitive, yet very capable of producing well-taught haumana (students).
Kanaloa proper exists on the island of Molokaʻi - an island believed to possess mana - tunneled and carved out of the side of the sea cliffs. First, only those native to the islands were allowed to attend. As time went on, this regulation was amended to allow those who were citizens of the State of Hawai’i for at least three years to attend Kanalao. With this and other changes, some kumu (teachers) decided they should be true to the literal meaning of hālau, “a branch from which many leaves grow”. It was decided that the school should be expanded to the other islands for access. Now, a campus exists carved out of the sides of the volcanos on each of the islands. Kanaloa proper offers the widest varieties of studies, and the branched off campuses will always offer at least the necessities for studying magic with additional classes as staffing permits.
The haumana of Kanalao are complimented for their capabilities in transfiguration, divination, and flying, as well as being known to be unconventional duelers. Students study for 12 years in line with the education requirement implemented by MACUSA. The primary years are focused on basic learning (math, science, language arts, ect.) with few interjections of magical learning. Once in the eighth year, magical studies become the core of the curriculum while continuing to progress in basic learning. Kanalao is unique in where their magical studies focus on possible career possibilities.
Quodpot, and later quidditch, were introduced shortly before the islands became a state. Natives had been flying and creating brooms for generations with other local games. While these games have not been abandoned, the Islanders have enjoyed dominating the national leagues. The quodpot and quidditch teams of Kanalao are feared, to say the least. Not only are the haumana sharp fliers but their brooms are of interesting crafting. The brooms are crafted in a class only taught in Kanalao proper in a workroom under intense defensive charms. The crafting of the brooms is one of the most closely guarded trade secrets of the school. The only teams with access to these brooms are the Kanalao teams and the state teams in Honolulu. Many great fliers leave Kanalao with contracts for some of the best flying teams in the country if not internationally.

Hey I was wondering what's the wizarding history of Queens
What an interesting topic! We’ll start from the beginning:
Discover Wizarding United States of America: Queens Borough

Queens is the largest of the five boroughs of New York City. It was established in 1683 and presumably named to honor European Queens. At this time, The majority of the settlers were from the Netherlands and many of their population were witches and wizards. They forged a very decent relationship with the natives. The land grew up into a prosperous town that fostered a safe community for the wizarding folk from all over the world.
When the Revolutionary War came, the British quickly swept in. In Queens, there was a significant mixed wizarding population. The muggle British troops weren’t much concerned with Queens aside from Long Island. The witches and wizards took this to their advantage and used several locations in Queens for a rotating headquarters by which they could plan and facilitate guerrilla counteroffensives. One of these old HQ’s has been flipping into a Aurors Division and Civil Protection (ADCP) Precinct while another is a cupcake shop. A few others have been placed under historical protection and are preserved in their vintage state. One, in particular, has actually disappeared. MACUSA has the city plans for where the building and its basement should be, yet in its place is Sunnyside Gardens Park.
One of the most used headquarters in the war turned into a steakhouse and the most desirable meeting spot for crime bosses in not only Queens but New York City. The Butcher House was a little on the nose and had the attention of authorities as Italian wizarding families flooded among the crowds on the boats. The Bandoni, Moretti and Laguardia families all rose quickly and suddenly in the 1870′s. The crime families covered their tracks very well, no matter how many safe houses and weapon caches the aurors raided. It was in 1879 that Walter Moretti gunned down the heir to the Bandoni throne in the Butcher House. The Moretti’s ruled over the Italian wizarding diaspora in Queens while the Laguardia’s migrated deeper into Manhattan that leads to Fiorello Laguardia being elected as the 99th mayor of New York City. Fiorello embraced the criminal background of his family yet in the sense that the entire population of New York City was now apart of his family and he looked to expel any threat he could to the expanded family of his.
Fiorello Laguardia being in office was a major asset to the wizarding community of New York City. He desperately wanted to foster a bond between the no-maj office of mayor and MACUSA. Fiorello was largely successful in this attempt, with each office working together to better the city. One of the many successes of this co-operation was the Beast Breeding Amendment.
In the 1900′s purge of Beast Breeders, Civil Patrol and Aurors had to go door to door to ensure all breeders ceased and desisted. Queens was notorious for illegal beast breeding in the late 1800′s. The ringleader of the entire operation was Edith O’Mooney, an Irish witch that immigrated with her parents. She orchestrated the financing, breeding, distribution, and profiting off every illegal breeder in Queens. And breeder not willing to come into her fold disappeared almost as soon as they had appeared and one of O’Mooney’s associates took over their operation. Edith O’Mooney was never apprehended by authorities even though almost all of her inner circle was arrested. This earned O’Mooney the alias of “The Untouchable”. Rumors run, even to this day, that wrinkly, old O’Mooney still runs the underground organizations in Queens, quite possibly the Non-Dominabitur organization.
Queens is home to two airports, JFK International and La Guardia, and therefore there is little to none wizarding air traffic over it. Especially since the great crash of 2001, where a group of young wizards on their way home from a quodpot tournament at Sentinel Aerial Stadium. Giddy off gigglewater and an underdog win, the teen’s collided with a no-maj plane, American Airlines Flight 587. It was a terrible accident that leads to well-developed laws on wizarding air travel by MACUSA.
Nowadays, the wizarding community of Queens is vibrant yet divided. Many significant wizarding families from around the world settled in Queens. Some made alliances with each other and others still feed into fierce feuds. It is not odd for there to be a witch or wizard in the middle of an incident in Queens. The 111th ADCP Precinct of Queens is one of the busiest in the city, always dealing with a wide variety of issues that compliment the wizarding population of Queens.

As No-Maj Europeans began to emigrate to the New World, more witches and wizards of European origin also came to settle in America. Like the non-magical settlers, they had a variety of reasons for leaving their countries of origin. Some were driven by a sense of adventure, but most were running away. This lead the population to being suspicious of everyone.
From the beginning, however, it was clear that the New World was to be a harsher environment for witches and wizards than the Old World. The witches and wizards in the new world were largely experimenting for the first couple years. They were among new plants, new beasts, and new people - by which the no-maj's had started a tense and untrusting relationship. If they were capable of mending relationships with Natives then, witches and wizards found the new world opening up to them in a completely different way. Not only had conflict developed between the immigrants and the Native American population, which struck a blow at the unity of the magical community, their religious beliefs made them deeply intolerant of any trace of magic. The Puritans were happy to accuse each other of occult activity on the slenderest evidence, and New World witches and wizards were right to be extremely wary of them and relied heavily on keeping close to Native communities. The most dangerous problem encountered by wizards newly arrived in North America were the Scourers. As the wizarding community in America was small, scattered and secretive, it had as yet no law enforcement mechanism of its own. This left a vacuum that was filled by a band of wizarding mercenaries of many foreign nationalities, who formed a much-feared and brutal taskforce committed to hunting down not only known criminals but anyone who might be worth some gold. As time went on, the Scourers became increasingly corrupt. Far away from the jurisdiction of their native magical governments, many indulged a love of authority and cruelty unjustified by their mission. Such Scourers enjoyed bloodshed and torture and even went so far as trafficking their fellow wizards to be persecuted by the no-maj communities. The famous Salem Witch Trials of 1692-93 were a tragedy for the wizarding community. Wizarding historians agree that among the so-called Puritan judges were at least two known Scourers, who were paying off feuds that had developed while in America. A number of the dead were indeed witches, though utterly innocent of the crimes for which they had been arrested. Others were merely No-Majs who had the misfortune to be caught up in the general hysteria and bloodlust. Salem was significant within the magical community for reasons far beyond the tragic loss of life. Its immediate effect was to cause many witches and wizards to flee America and many more to decide against locating there. This led to interesting variations in the magical population of North America, compared to the populations of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Up until the early decades of the twentieth century, there were fewer witches and wizards in the general European American population than on the other four continents. Pure-blood families, who were well-informed through wizarding newspapers about the activities of both Puritans and Scourers, rarely left for America. This meant a far higher percentage of No-Maj-born witches and wizards in the New World than elsewhere. While these witches and wizards often went on to marry and found their own all-magical families, the pure-blood ideology that has dogged much of Europe’s magical history has gained far less traction in America. Perhaps the most significant effect of Salem was the creation of the Magical Congress of the United States of America in 1693, pre-dating the No-Maj version by around a century. Known to all American witches and wizards by the abbreviation MACUSA (commonly pronounced as Mah – cooz – ah), it was the first time that the North American wizarding community came together to create laws for themselves, effectively establishing a magical-world-within-a-No-Maj-world such as existed in most other countries. MACUSA’s first task was to put on trial the Scourers who had betrayed their own kind. Those convicted of murder, of wizard-trafficking, torture and all other manners of cruelty were executed for their crimes. MACUSA’s second great law enforcement challenge was the number of wizarding criminals who had fled to America from Europe and beyond, precisely because of the lack of organized law enforcement such as existed in their own countries. The first President of MACUSA was Josiah Jackson, a warlike wizard who was voted into the post by his fellow representatives because he was considered tough enough to deal with the difficulties of the post-Salem Witch Trials era. President Jackson strongly felt the need for a law-abiding force and so created the first group of American aurors to help build the foundation for Wizarding America. Several of the most notorious Scourers eluded justice. With international warrants out for their arrest, they vanished permanently into the No-Maj community. Some of them married No-Majs and founded families where magical children appear to have been winnowed out in favor of non-magical offspring, to maintain the Scourer’s cover. The vengeful Scourers, cast out from their people, passed on to their descendants an absolute conviction that magic was real, and the belief that witches and wizards ought to be exterminated wherever they were found. This will lead to decades of future unrest of which might never settle, as in the American population is extremely difficult to fool. However, Americans found themselves distract by a brewing war in which not only will the Native and European magical populations have to join forces but also pick and choose sides with the no-maj's.

The Spanish rose up from the South to the Great plains building small towns and trading posts along the way. The French came down from the North, following the Mississippi river with their farming communities. The Dutch in the North also became good friends of the Native Americans. The British were harsh and greedy in their claim. It was obvious, as they propped up their walls and dug new fields, that they are here to stay.
The majority of the Dutch explorers were witches and wizards. The relationship was so steady that the Dutch established the colony of New Netherland (later to become New York City and the Hudson Valley).
As the newcomers began building log houses and planting fields of grain on the Atlantic Coast, the natives watched. On the Central East Coast, the Powhatan's Mamanatowick, Wahunsenecawh, found no trust in the English settlers. However, Wahunsenecawh did find an unlikely friend in the settler, John Smith. This lead to giving the English some aid in establishing themselves. Even then, Mamanatowick Wahunsenecawh told his young men to watch closely and carefully. It became rumor among the settlers in the early years and on to be mindful of the animals in the woods - that Powhatan scouting parties were transforming into animals. This became the legend of the Native American ‘skinwalker’. Even among their people, there was a debate about how these witches and wizards gained their powers. The most common practice noted across the tribes was a deep form of animal magic that takes roughly a year to perform. At the end of the process, the witch or the wizard may change at will. The word of the transforming Natives spread quickly across the coast and then deeper into the land, as almost every tribe had scouting teams of animagus. Some European witches and wizards built formable relationships with tribes and their magical people. They learned how to become animagus by learning the plant and animal magic of the tribes. The French were notable for teaching some tribes along the Mississippi how to create well-refined wands. While they now could produce a fully capable wand, it still remained unpopular. While the settlers with no magic brought rifles and cows, the magical Europeans brought new herbs and dragons. The relationship between Natives and settlers varied across the land. For years there was much bloodshed between the different people and conflicts never truly settled as more and more Europeans came to the new land. Colonies that angered the tribes faced plagues and curses upon their population by the witches and wizards of the tribes. This lead to a new fear among the settlers. New rumors of demons. They already feared Natives with extraordinary capabilities and now they looked to their own people with weariness.

It was a great shock to many when the long boats came and strangers landed on the beaches. Leif Eriksson and his crew first landed in the far Northwest islands of Canada. Eriksson may had been the first strange man tribes had seen, but not near the last. The Norsemen’s routes journeyed as far down the coast to what is now the City of New York.
A few of the natives in the more Southern wooded regions began attempting to enchant twiggy limbs of trees at the encouragement of these wand-wielding strangers. Rarely were the attempts effective in becoming a capable wand. Those that were successful continued to hone the skill. It was a man by the name Ahanu, who has been cited in stories to be the first successful wandmaker. Not many took to waving a short, wiry stick in their hands, though it did seem to become more popular for those attempting transfiguration and some charms. The knowledge slowly spread from coast to coast over the span of years. The people of the plains found little to no use for wands, but a few wandmakers appeared to find luck in the West where a new magic was being honed. Yet it will still be many years before wands seem necessary for the people of America. The wandless magic among the Natives is well practiced and extremely capable. A powerful shaman of the Wiyot tribe is told to be the first to produce a patronus. Legend says that she traveled to the top of the mountains deep in the night, followed by a great pack of animals. The animals spoke to her on the mountaintop and begged her to give them a way to be with their people once again. The animals were the ancestors of the tribe adamant on continuing to protect the Wiyot. It was weeks later that the shaman traveled down the mountains alone. Every man, woman, and child met her at the edge of the village. The elderly woman smiled as she waved her hands through motions and a bear made of silvery light burst forth. The shaman left the Wiyot people to travel to other tribes and teach them the charm. Her charm evolved to the most effective mode of communication at the time and was imperative when explorers began roaming their lands. The people of North America were more than capable of more advanced magic at this age which would become instrumental in the when whispers from their neighboring tribes in the Southwest that a terrible people of a flowery language landed. The North American people dismissed the traveling word easily and casually assumed it was like their encounters with the Norsemen. Off the mainland on a cluster of islands, a new people were also establishing themselves. The group of Polynesians had traveled incredible distances to find a home. They quickly grew their civilization on Hawai'i. They shared an understanding of magic with the gods and goddesses of their culture. They will live for generations untouched and thriving. As they build their civilization, trade routes with the other islands and an education system for their magical. Back on the mainland, it was the French that the native tribes found likenesses with when they came down from the North. A fair relationship between trading skills, work, and goods was built throughout the land. Among these travelers, were French witches and wizards in awe of the natives' abilities. They had also brought women with them by which none had ever seen. The veela’s were extraordinary to natives, but very much feared. Elders often said them to be tamed demons in a skin stolen from the moon. The East Coast's encounter with the English was far less pleasant. The brute men were said to sweep in like a storm, shouting and spouting fire from a stick. The English, however, had underestimated the magical talents of the natives as the magical among them were refugees intent on staying hidden. A lack of communication and cooperation lead to bloodshed. With the tribes facing slaughter, elders were forced to agree to uneasy treaties. The leaders of the Magical Chiefdom of the Native Tribes tried to contact the European Wizarding Community, in hope of gaining help with those settling on the coast. Spain and France both responded by sending envoys to ease tensions. Yet, the British Ministry of Magic stayed silent.

Magic is ancient and it first belonged to the original people of this Earth. It was many, many generations ago that people tapped into the power bubbling under their feet. In the beginning it explained much of the world around them, but as the bond strengthen between man and magic some grew capable of amazing feats. As the people learned, so grew the first roots of magic in North America.
It was a great woman that raised the sea floor to bridge two lands together after the Ice Age. Her people followed her without fear of what was North America. It has been lost over time and retelling of the story who this powerful witch was but she was arguably the first person with magical blood to step foot on the continent. Her people journeyed deep into the land where they roamed along the eastern coast. She went on to teach the gifted how to raise land. Long after this magical woman’s lifetime, the skill was mainly used in honoring the dead. The mounds have continued to stand along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers along with those more inland in Southern states.
Other nomadic people followed across the land bridge. Those with magical tendencies were instrumental in the survival of these bands of people. In the age, magic seems to have emerged sporadically in individuals. In fact, it seemed to run rampant among the tribes and was a rarity for the magic to not surface. It is still unknown why there was such an influx of magical births during this time, but the world would surely be a different place if magic wasn't so widespread at such an instrumental era.
The magic of the land was primal and perilous. There was much to be learned from the new environment and tribes crossed paths occasionally enough in their traveling. With these meetings, knowledge was cultivated and shared. It was a period rich in the building of skills that had never existed until then. The mixing of the newly introduced fauna and flora created a range of elixirs and potions still used every day. Practical abilities were perfected such as levitating objects, basics to the herbology we know today and calling objects to a person. The people who quickly made North America their own were wildly capable of all this magic without enchanted wood. In fact, it wasn't until Leif Eriksson came in his ship wielding a glorified twig that anyone in North America had known of a wand.

The aurors of the United States are the first line defenders of our home. Individuals spend an entire year immersed in the most demanding training that produces the high level operators that exist all across the nation. It is no secret to the world that the US greatly values a vicious defending force that is always prepared, and so one of the first declarations of the Magical Congress was the creation of a military capable force.
The United States Auror Academy’s enchanted campus exists deep in the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia. Unlike MACUSA it still remains in the original location. It was the first Magical President Josiah Jackson who formally established the Academy in 1695, where twelve volunteers became the first to define what it means to be a United States auror. The Original Twelve (respectfully labeled as the O12 by the current generation) Wilhelm Fischer, Theodard Fontaine, Gondulphus Graves, Robert Grimsditch, Mary Jauncey, Carlos Lopez, Mungo MacDuff, Cormac O’Brien, Abraham Potter, Berthilde Roche, Helmut Weiss and Charity Wilkinson have been etched into Wizarding American history. A few didn't survive the first years; there were so many challenges for just twelve witches and wizards. In 1700, seven of the O12 returned to their alma mater where a rudimentary program had been formulated to produce more aurors. The training was only scratching the surface of possibilities. It was Charity Wilkinson, Theodard Fontaine, Cormac O’Brien, Abraham Potter, Carlos Lopez, Berthile Roche and Mary Jauncey who reformed the Academy into what it is today.
Acceptance into the Academy is more tricky than it is difficult. Mungo MacDuff, years ago, met a half-blood fairy who had a particular skill set that MacDuff took to his grave. This woman transfigured mountain rock, pine trees, forest ferns and meadow flowers into a fifty foot, triangle arch that stands at the entrance to the Academy.
A number of witches an wizards, from the ages of eighteen to twenty-seven, gather at the beginning of the Appalachian Trail in Maine, they trek the trail for months before reaching the Defending Arch. Each pass through individually. Only a select few are allowed to travel the enchanted fork in the trail that leads to the steps of the Academy, but the majority must continue, unbeknownst to how close in proximity they are, to the Southern foot of the Appalachians.
Samuel Spector presides as the current Commandant of the Academy where he oversees the training and graduation of nearly 1,200 aurors every year. No one of the Academy speaks of the training and trials each auror must pass to graduate. The individuals that are sorted out of the program are obliviated and sent home. The rigorous training twines together the most demanding non-magical military skills with forward-thinking magical combatant schooling to create a world feared force.
The classes begin in the Summer and Winter solstice of every year. Cadet’s spend every day in uniform moving and communicating as teams. Instructors are all retired aurors, each with a unique experience or skill. It takes the combination of all the instructor's knowledge to prepare the cadets. They train through every possible scenario the current generation may face.
Witches and wizards can be removed from the Academy under two circumstances: quitting and recommended removal by an instructor. There is no true failure in the Academy. If a cadet requires more time for training, an instructor can recycle them into the class behind to revisit the training the cadet requires more time in.
At six months, when the new class begins, the upper class of cadets begins the second leg of their training where they must lead and manage the underclassmen through the exercises and trials they previously have endured. Many aurors find it more difficult than expected to lead. The leadership required is particular to the world of aurors and takes all five months to adapt to.
The twelfth month of the Academy is when each of the aurors is drafted into their cities. Some come to the Academy are already sponsored. Cities such as New York, Detroit, Chicago, San Fransisco, Atlanta and Las Vegas send individuals they asses to possibly make it through the Defending Arch so that the witches and wizards may return back to that city. In the twelfth month, cities wheel and deal to get the aurors they desire most for their cities. It can possibly take up until the last minute before graduation before a sponsor is settled for a cadet.
Graduation is on the same day that classes begin. A decorated and honored ceremony where cadets dress in their most formal uniform to be presented with an emerald ring. Many fit the ring on their wand and those who operate wandless fit it to the thumb of their dominant hand. The emerald ring is a distinguishing trademark of American aurors.
American auror’s are considered some of the nations finest witches and wizards. Assigned to each city in the US and its territories, they are our defense against foreign and domestic threats. The auror’s are to thank for the protection of all we hold dear.
