Halloween is such a weird day for me. Growing up, my mom hated everything to do with it, and we never participated. Until we got to HS, she would pull us out of school on whichever day the parties and parades happened, and would take us to the movies. Then we would all go out to dinner, or we'd make something special at home.

I can honestly say that I don't ever think I missed out on anything, and one of my favorite childhood memories is of the day we went to see Fantasia, and being the only ones in the theater at 1130 on a weekday morning, my mom let us dance along to the music in the aisles.

It's only now, in my adult years, when people are flummoxed when I say I've never dressed up or gone trick or treating where I feel almost ashamed (?) that I never experienced the costume picking or bartering my candy afterwards with my brother and sister or any of the other stereotypical celebrations.
