The poor thing... I take it that it may be from stress that he hasn't been eating.

I used to own a perrserker, and would sometimes boil meat to create a broth and mix it in his food once it's cooled down a little, but still mildly warm. I can't guarantee that this would work if he's stressed, but the smell may entice him.
