classic who: the torment nexus of the daleks. there is a torment nexus and the daleks have it. the torment nexus is obviously just as much bubble wrap as the bbc could get its hands on. the torment nexus makes adric, nyssa and tegan's lives utter hell for an entire serial and this is never mentioned again. a remarkably astute and socially relevant criticism of the torment nexus given it's over thirty years old now

nuwho: torment. there is a torment nexus and the cybermen have it, but that's not actually relevant right now, because the cybermen aren't the main focus of this episode. the main focus is that missy built the torment nexus specifically to psychosexually mess with clara. the doctor is not happy about this but what's he gonna do? torment missy with the nexus? unlikely

big finish: the nexus of torment. bad things happen to the eighth doctor and he eventually discovers that there is a nexus of torment designed solely for making his life worse. he screams a lot. charley has to destroy the torment nexus. nobody is happy

short trips: the nexus's story. we discover that the torment nexus is a sentient being capable of experiencing the pain anyone tortured with it feels for itself and it longs for nothing more than suicide, but the doctor refuses to grant the torment nexus this wish because the only way to end its suffering would involve blowing up the galaxy. so the nexus is left to suffer alone in a hell dimension for eternity where it can't hurt anyone except itself, which it does, because even eternal pain is better than eternal nothingness. there's a cautionary tale in here somewhere but nobody is very sure where

comics: the nexus strikes again! the doctor is on the run from the torment nexus, which has gained sentience and is now rebelling against its creator (the doctor, whoops). there will be some cool explosions probably
