Lughnasadh Ideas!
Aka Lúnasa or Lammas, the first of the 3 harvest festivals, celebrated on August 1st.
I know Lughnasadh is still a ways away, but I thought I’d jump the gun a bit anyway cuz I LIKE BREAD.
🌻Go pick apples or any other produce that’s in season! You can offer some to the Earth or whatever deities you worship. In ancient times, people would bury their offerings at the tops of hills during Lughnasadh.
🌻Bake bread! Make it magical by inscribing symbols or runes into it, using herbs and spices with special properties, and adding sun water. Bless it. Ask your deities to put their energy into it. As you knead and mix, imagine all your magick getting folded in right into the dough. Think of this loaf of bread as your own unique little bundle of magick. This bread can be for anything you want, but some common Lughnasadh themes would be abundance, prosperity, healing, family harmony, and good over evil.
🌻Bask in the color gold
🌻Perform spells for abundance and prosperity
🌻Organize a group sports event—paintball, laser tag, baseball, capture the flag, even something as small as a jump rope competition. The point is to honor Lugh through traditional athletic competitions! What kind of competition that is, is up to you.
🌻Visit a sacred well. No sacred wells around? Go visit a body of water that’s special to you and spend some time dipping your feet in, basking in the sun, and eating some seasonal fruits.
🌻Go to a local farmers market and buy some in-season produce, then cook it up however you want. Save some to offer to the deities of your choice, and eat the rest with friends!
🌻Do a tarot reading for yourself. What’s beginning to manifest in your life? What’s ripe, and what still needs time?
🌻This celebration traditionally included matchmaking and courting. Why not give this tradition a modern twist by going to a speed dating event, a blind date, or another dating-related event?
🌻Sit outside and paint with golds and yellows and oranges. Wear flowers in your hair. Drink some dandelion tea.
🌻Fill your altar with sheaves of wheat, decorative corn, sunstone and citrine and pyrite, gold colors, scoops of earth in decorative jars, fresh-picked herbs and weeds and wildflowers, and that cool thing you painted earlier.
🌻Thank the Earth for the first harvest, and keep reaping! Summer’s not over yet 🧡

Joy is a renewable resource. You don't need to rob someone of their happiness because you lack your own. There is plenty to go around.🌻

What if you're interested in choosing/being chosen by a spirit, but you might not have money for they're offerings? Could you simply say, 'hey I know you really like this, but this is the best I can do right now' and let them know?
Spirits don’t mind not having fancy things for offerings! Most of the time, spirits (and dieties!) are aware of your situation, including financial hardship. Offerings are nice to give in a companionship, but they are not what ultimately makes the relationship “work.” It’s like giving a little gift to a friend every once in a while - not crucial to the relationship, but it’s nice!
Here are some cheap/low effort offering ideas! These are also good for people who suffer from depression and have a hard time going out of their way for offerings.
Set aside a bite of your meal for them.
Make them an origami animal out of scrap paper.
Light a candle or stick of incense for them.
Find a quote in a book you think they’d like, and leave it open for them.
Pour them a shotglass of water/tea/etc.
Pasta water, also, has got lots of good funky energy for offerings.
Take an old crystal you already own, cleanse it in the sun, and offer it.
Put on a movie or TV show you think they’d like.
If they’re sun aligned, place their vessel in the sun for a bit. If they’re moon aligned… well, you get it.
Dedicate a plant to them. Every time you water the plant, it’s an offering.
Make a music playlist dedicated to them.
Come up with a performance for them - a dance, a song, a poem.
Go on a walk with them.
Rearrange your altar. Make new patterns with the objects you already have.
Anyone can add on more if they can think of them! But spirits don’t mind the small stuff. In fact, they like it, and it can be much more sustainable to do things this way!

Tarot and Spirits
Doing a tarot reading through channelling a spirit’s intent:
Spread out your deck, in 2-3 rows, preferably on a bed or floor, or some surface you can sit on as well
Get yourself into a meditative and amenable state for spirit communication, make sure your muscles are relaxed/tension gone
Hold the vessel or signifying item of the spirit close to your most active chakra, sense and focus on their energy, let them know you wish them to channel a reading through you
If you have a specific question or a topic for the spirit, let them know the first one and give them a moment to contemplate
Hold the spirit’s vessel in your palm, using the grip of your thumb to keep it lightly perched there
Hold your arm out straight, palm face down, hovering in the center of the center row of cards. About 15-20cm’s above the cards should do.
Relax. Breath. Ground yourself. Let all tension go. Close your eyes.
Let your arm move in the direction it wants to go, be patient
When your hand starts to hover above a certain card, the vessel may or may not vibrate in your hand. When it wants to fall, let it drop naturally. This will be the spirit’s chosen card
If the vessel doesn’t drop, but your hand has stopped moving, that can happen too, let your fingers fall naturally to the card instead
Once a card has been chosen, you can open your eyes, and either look at the card, or continue from the start again with your next question
Some things to keep in mind:
Be as specific as possible with your questions when doing a reading with a spirit, to avoid it being interpreted incorrectly or to avoid an answer that is vague or unclear.
Don’t ask things like, “what are you feeling?” As the answer to this sort of question can come back to mean a huge variety of things that might not even relate to what the spirit is personally feeling, and might just be what they are witnessing or experiencing from you or their surroundings
Make sure to give the spirit time to mull over the question and to actually choose a card to answer it, otherwise risk getting an incomplete or completely invalid reading
Keep in mind that when doing a reading with a spirit, often it is a fraction of their thought that is channelled into the card, it may or may not be a direct answer to your question, and is often merely an observation in regards to something related, so make sure to listen to your gut instinct and intuition
Stay away from traditional card meanings as much as possible, and try to intuitively read each card the spirit pulls. They may choose a card for it’s appearance, or some small bit of symbolism that they feel best relates to the message they want to relay to you, which may or may not be visibly relevant to the question you have asked. This is by far the most challenging part, and why I always back up tarot readings with pendulum and astral work
Don’t get hung up on the “negative” cards, generally in my work with spirits I find they tend to pull cards of observation and guidance pertaining to you, and less about them personally, and especially if they are a spirit companion, they are very in tune with your emotions and energy and will wish to assist and support you best they can
Another thing to note is how highly aware spirits are, above our awareness, they are not privy to the sort of emotional ups and downs that humans are, for the most part. That’s not to say they don’t experience emotions, or strong emotions, just that they are generally more stable and clear headed about things
Also it is a good idea to back up the results with another form of spirit communication, to make sure the reading was as valid and true as possible. Sometimes the readings don’t come through true at all, or are weak, or the spirit is new or not fully there to channel the reading
Another word of advice is to do the readings yourself this way if this is a spirit you personally work with, another diviner might not be able to channel their energy as accurately, or even be so welcome to do so

Just reiterating that the heart of witchcraft is (just like science) experimentation and documentation. Try things out. Get them wrong. Mess up. Do better. Write down your efforts. Make changes and alterations based on what you have access to. Above all, if it works, it works; if it doesn’t, then it’s no good. Witchcraft is a results-based practice.

I don't think I've said it on this blog before but
I encourage every witch doing spells for the blm movement but here's the thing
If you have other means, don't just do a spell. Donate. Do something. It's nice that you're casting a spell for the cause but that's not enough. I have reblogged a post already on how you can help with donations when you don't have money to donate. But I will also reblog actual ways how you can donate.
Do protection spells, do hexes, make sigils, pray, whatever it is that you want to do to help the protesters. BUT BE MINDFUL. Whether its a protection spell or a hex, you should know what you're doing. And stay safe.

June happenings 2020! ✨
June brings some tension in the 1st half of the month, meant to shift things on a major level. Frustrations could run high. We need to figure out what is real and what is facts. The forward momentum is slow moving and we might wish it was quicker, but take time to process. The 2nd half of the month we will see some help with spiritual clarity and direction. Overall there is a lot going on and lots of shifts and internal work. Keep yourself grounded, practice self care.
June 3rd: Sun conjunct Venus-happens once a year, shines the light on love and values.
June 5th: Lunar eclipse in Sagittarius-angry love, love is blind. Be careful avoid situations where things could get aggressive. Compassion, peace and knowledge are the end game.
June 18th: Mercury goes retrograde-communication hi jinks, have back up plans. Try to go with the flow.
June 20th: Sun moves into Cancer and it’s the summer solstice-Overall theme of protection, sensitivity, loyalty, the home.
June 21st: Solar eclipse in Cancer-what brings you comfort? What is worth protecting? And at what cost. Can you balance taking care of yourself with your duties and not feel guilty?
June 23rd: Neptune goes retrograde-intuition is clear and not as muddled and is also heightened. Find clarity in deeper meanings.
June 25th: Venus goes direct-how we express love gets a chance to move forward and we see where we needed to grow and how to move forward.
June 27th: Mars moves into Aries-bring on the heat! 🔥 Mars is happy here and action and impulses become very direct and straightforward.
June 30th: Jupiter conjunct Pluto-beliefs and power collide. Could go either way, are certain beliefs being used to control or to be empowered?
