Use Fake Magic to Make Real Magic?
Okay we’ve all visited one of those old magic spell websites (spellsofmagic.com I’m lookin at you) in the past. If you’ve been a seeker of magic for some time there are probably countless generic forums and websites that provided you with your beginning magical knowledge. And now, we have tumblr as a reliable and constant flow of information.
But how can we tell the real magic from the fake?
Sure, no ones saying it, but 95% of the spells, rituals, magic & tools we share online ARE FAKE OR DO NOT WORK…that is, for anyone but the user
Tumblr media
Magic is a type of energy that we as magicians, mystics, witches, etc. can wield. This energy is specifically tied to and modeled after its user. So when anyone creates magic spells/rituals/etc. they’re reliant on what types of magical energy works best with the creator and their intention. You simply reading the steps and ingredients, leaves out that personal energy. In short, magic works best for the person who made it and will work less if imitated.
(sn: Older/Ancient spells seem to have more chance at success due to the great use of them over time, making that stored energy available to others. But most spells found online with a quick keyword search are ineffective for the general seeker.)
So, knowing that just finding a spell doesn’t mean it works, what spells should you use?
Magic is personal. Each practitioners’ approach is unique and it should be that way. Our modern need to share this uniqueness might be the reason online magic can be less potent. It’s been said that sharing your secrets(your magic) with too many can result in dire consequences. Aleister Crowley, one of the greatest more modern magicians, almost lost his magic completely from pride/showing off.
My best recommendation would be to MAKE YOUR OWN MAGIC. This way not only is the spell/ritual/recipe exclusive to you, but your own personal energy is sewn directly into it. Your magic will be more potent, and the process will be exciting!
But what if you aren’t practiced enough to come up with your own spells?
Use other spells (even fake spells) for inspiration! There is knowledge to be found in the ingredients, steps, and tools used by other magic practitioners. Even movie/fiction magic can be incorporated —pop culture magic ftw. Learn from what they’ve crafted. Then create something brand new that combines your intentions and energy, with elements of what you’ve found.
Example: “love spell”
🌸 go to spellsofmagic.com & look through their love spells
🌸 pick a few that stand out to you, or pick randomly
🌸 read them all over. Take care to note what ingredients, words/actions, other elements are commonly used. (ex. rose, fire/candle, a kiss, the color red)
🌸 take the elements that stand out the most to you, and write them down separately (ex. rose, a kiss, and a candle)
🌸 create your own personal list of correspondences and intuitive ideas about the spell (ex. if you like the energy peonies for romance, it might be included here)
🌸 combine these two lists. rearrange, erase, add to, and blend each element until the energy of the spell feels strong
This can be an excellent exercise for you in any stage of your magical journey. One of the most exciting parts about being a witch, is knowing that there will come a time to cultivate your own craft in favor of those around you (very 5 of Wands-y). Even the fake can be used for truth and good in some way, if we put our minds and wands to it 😉
By doing this you’ll also learn vast amounts of correspondences and may find yourself diving deep into your understanding of magic. Be your own mentor and student, you’ll grow stronger.

Inexpensive Witch Items for your craft #1
This will be my first post on places to get inexpensive items for you!
DOLLAR TREE!!! I can not explain my love for this store to be honest. Now it may be an obvious store for budget friendly people but I know many people may not think about going there for items for your altar, spells, etc but it is my go to place for all of my items! I will list below all of my favorite items you can get from there! Also they always get in new items all the time so I go quite frequently to see what I can pick up! And of course everything is $1 so to be honest it can’t get any better than that!
SALTS: 2lb boxes of sea salt, regular table salt, and they will even sometimes have pink Himalayan sea salt! Do I even have to mention why this is useful? Well I will anyway! Salt is like the boss of protection and purification. Use it in baths, spells, throw it around the house to keep negative things out, use it when you cast circles, etc. Salt is the bomb I my opinion. And why not get a huge box of it for $1?
SPICES AND HERBS: they have amazing spices to be honest. (Not just to use for cooking which I do) but they have cinnamon, parsley, ground sage, Basil, oregano, ground cloves, All spice, Ginger, etc. You can use these in jar spells, dream sachets, cooking spells, etc. They are fantastic especially for beginner witches who don’t want to spend tons on dried herbs or can’t find them locally outside in the wild or like those who live in a big city far from lots of nature where it’s hard to grow them yourself… Or for those who don’t have as much of a green thumb!
CANDLES!!! : THIS is one of my favorite sections at the dollar tree. You can probably get a better deal for bulk tea light candles somewhere else like Walmart but the dollar tree has amazing tall pillar candles, Scented candles, cute jar candles, Mason jar candles which obviously you can re-use for spells or storage! They have candles in different colors as well! For those who don’t like much flame they have great battery operated candles as well!
GLASS CONTAINERS AND JARS: THEY HAVE SO MANY GLASS OPTIONS! I love finding glass bowls, jars, vases, cups, etc you name it. All can be used for your altar for decor, spell work, collecting water, mixing stuff in, and anything else your little witchy heart desires to use for a glass container!
FOOD ITEMS: *PLEASE be aware to look at expiration dates and read labels. In my experience I’ve had no negative ones as of yet and I’m very sensitive to food and such* I Love getting my baking soda, sugar for offerings or spell jars, candies for offerings, sweets for the fae, jelly (I love their preserves they are delicious! The strawberry and raspberry ones are a house staple), Crackers, unsweetened apple sauce (it’s fantastic), teas (LOVEEEE THE TEAS they have fruit teas, camomile tea, green tea, black tea, and more) these are fabulous to use in spell work or just to drink, and mainly anything a kitchen witch or just a witch in general wants to use for offerings. *I do not advise on getting any meat or dairy products for obvious reasons. Though their vegan spring rolls are my go-to and the dark chocolate covered banana slices are also amazing in the freezer section along with their frozen fruit and vegetables I always make sure to get the ones grown in the USA. * Fruit infuser tumbler cups! Need I say more?
CRAFT SUPPLIES: GLITTER, PENS, PENCILS, STICKERS, TAPE, FLORAL WIRE, FAKE FLOWERS, WREATH WIRE, FLORAL FOAM, WOODEN DOWELS, GLUE, ROCKS, SHELLS, SAND, YOU NAME IT ITS ALL THERE!!!! Anything you could possibly need for your journal, spell books, spells, etc. Everything is there!
BATH SUPPLIES: GLAMOUR, RESTORATING, AND SELF LOVE BATHS HELLO! they sell Epsom salt, good bubble baths, bath loofas, scrubs, soaps, anything your heart would want for a bath spell! I love getting my favorite brown sugar vanilla bath soap mix it with some Epsom salt and sea salt throw in some green or black tea and have myself a self love and clearing bath!
There are a lot more wonderful things that can be found at your local dollar tree! Those are all the top categories that came to my mind. Next blog post will be on online websites that have inexpensive things for my lovely witches out there! Sending blessings to you all!

Dream Journals and Dream Work
What are Dream Journals?
Dream Journals are notebooks or journals that contain information recorded about one’s sleep patterns and dreams. These dreams recorded can be everything from simple dreams, to dream interpretations, to nightmares, to daydreams/waking dreams and self reflections on one’s own dreams. To a witch who does dream work, they are also important record keeping books used to write down own’s notes on dream divination, astral travel, dream walking, visions, lucid dreaming, spells and their effects.
What can I put in my Dream Journal?
All sorts of things! But some suggestions on what to put in it:
Dream Records
Dream Interpretations
Your nightly routines
Sleep records
How you feel before and after going to bed
Nightmares and the effects of them
Correspondences in Dream Work/Dream Magic
Crystals, herbs, incense, colors, animals, etc
Astral Travel notes and experiences
Daydreams you have and how they make you feel
Memorable dreams you had years ago that you still remember and why you may still recall them
Illustrations and doodles from daydreams or dreams
Images of things that keep reappearing in your dreams
Dream Divination predictions and results
“Deja vu” events that happen that relate to a dream you had
Tea and potion recipes for sleep or dreams
Meditation exercises/breathing exercises
Favorite types of dreams (ie: flying dreams)
Notes on recurring dreams or nightmares
Information on nocturnal creatures/beings that can effect or enter dreams
Perhaps your own experiences with them
Sleep spells and dream spells
Notes on said spells
Dream encounters with deities and entities
Lucid Dreaming notes
Conditions in which you are sleeping in that night
Location, stuffed animals, blankets you’re using, number of pillows, if there is light or music/sound, etc
How do I take notes on Dream Spells?
This is a question I get rather often. Dream spells can be more difficult to ‘keep records’ of in a sense that their effects happen when you are asleep rather than your waking life. Well here are some images of how I take notes of my dream spells straight from one of my own Dream Journals.
Tumblr media
First, I write down what spell I am using. Here I list the spell, the ingredients in the spell and what they are suppose to contribute to this spell, my intent and things that I feel should also be noted related to the spell. Here I am trying to work on a spell to improve my dream experience and my dream recall as well as see if I can still lucid dream while using this spell. I made note of where I put this crystal sachet and also the food I ate before going to bed.
Immediately the next morning I began notes in my Dream Journal about the dream I had the night before. Here I speak of what I can remember visually and “plot-wise”.
Tumblr media
I then recorded how I was when I first woke up. In this case I felt a bit tired though this is most likely due to the fact I slept longer than I usually do and how I did not immediately recall my dream until I had been moving around a bit.
After that I began notes on my spell and how each thing either did or didn’t do its job. I then began dream interpretations in both the sense of how they are interpreted by the book and in some cases how I personally feel about certain things.
Tumblr media
After my interpretations had finished I read over them again and made a summary of what the dream most likely meant.
Tumblr media
I finished this particular Dream Journal entry with other miscellaneous notes such as what time frame I slept, how I wish to prepare for bed tonight and notes on the spell and some changes to it I am considering after some more trials.
I hope this has been helpful to anyone new to Dream Work and Dream Journals. Treat them as you would a Book of Shadows and a Grimoire, they are a magical tool to help you. They are highly personal, use whatever you wish in them. I personally like using notebooks and mine are rarely super artistic. But make them how you wish to make them, they are an extension of your craft. Good luck and happy witching~

Simple Love Dream Spell
I’m a big romantic and I can never find a love spell that I like on here. Whether it be because self-love spells and jars or potions are all the craze right now or everything else requires candles, lots of crystals, and/or herbs and not everyone has that. (I don’t have anything against these, but I live in a dorm and am poor :/)
大好きな。Love.
Materials:
Paper and Pen
Chamomile, lavender, and rose petals *
Chamomile tea *
Clear and/or rose quartz *
Directions:
On a Friday night (optional), take a piece of paper and write, “Help me find my love, a true love, my soulmate. Help me find my earthquake, the one that makes my heart shake.”.  Fold the paper and while falling asleep chant the spell.
Optional:
Friday night because Friday is the day of romance.
Create a satchel out of the chamomile, lavender, and the rose petals and sleep with that as well. The lavender and chamomile help you sleep and the rose petals and chamomile are symbols of love.
Drink some chamomile tea before bed. The chamomile can help you sleep and it is a symbol of love.
Set some clear and/or rose quartz out around you while you sleep. The rose quartz is a symbol of love and the clear quartz helps amplify and make clear connections as well as being a substitute for any crystals.
You can also contact any sleep/dream deities or love deities before starting the spell

Spell Writing Tips for Beginners
Hello Lovelies!
So you’ve decided to write a spell, great! Everyone has the capacity and capability to write a working spell. This is a list of some beginner tips for new spell writers, or for experienced writers who feel they need to go back to the basics.
1. Don’t be afraid of your own style.
Some spells are super flowery with long words and Shakespearian phrases. Some spells require 18 ingredients and 3 days to cast them. Some spells require specific times to cast them and the perfect astrological conditions. Some spells are simple, consisting of a single phrase. Don’t be afraid of your own individual style. A spell written by you, for you, should be a personal experience. Just because your spell doesn’t flow a certain way doesn’t mean it’s “wrong” or won’t work. Spell writing is a form of self expression and each spell will be as individual and unique as the person writing it.
2. Don’t think too much.
Spell writing (for me anyway) is more of a spiritual experience than an intellectual one. I usually sit down with my pen and paper. Then I meditate for a minute thinking about what I want to achieve. Then I just let the words flow out onto the paper, without thinking about what it all means. You can always read it after and make adjustments. If you just sit down and let it happen, you may be surprised by what you come up with!
3. Make your own associations.
Don’t feel like you have to research the meaning of every ingredient or color that you use. I may think red is a color for lust while you see it as a color for anger. Both associations are right. If something doesn’t feel right to you, or you personally feel different about something. It’s ok to use an ingredient in a different way than what is “traditional”.
4 Do research on any ingredients you use.
This may seem contradictory to my last tip, but this time I’m talking about physical properties. Will your gemstone dissolve in water? Is that herb you want to use toxic? Could you have an allergy to that essential oil? It’s important to do your research because some of the ingredients used in spell craft can be very potent. 5. Have fun!
If spell writing is stressing you out, try taking a break and coming back to it later. Whatever energy you have while writing your spell is going to show up in the casting of your spell. If you’re angry while writing a healing spell, it probably won’t work as well as you wanted it to. Don’t get frustrated with yourself. You’re new at this it will take some time. Just have patience with yourself.
I hope these tips are helpful for any new spell writers! Happy writing! -Liz

So You Want To Be A Witch
Tumblr media
I’ve seen a few of these posts going around and decided to make my own. I have noticed that a lot of beginner blogs tend to follow me so I wanted to dedicate this post to them, in terms of how I started witchcraft and how I grew to being a part of a coven and in priestess training. This post will contain some UPG and some tips I discovered on my own as well as what others have taught me from their own personal experiences.
Research - Discovery: I believe witchcraft can be discovered in any means necessary. I have talked about before who I discovered witchcraft through a fictional book and a Google definition search. It doesn’t matter if a witch is born into the craft or discovers it on their own, anyone can be a witch. The term witch tends to be accepted as a gender neutral term, so don’t get too hung up over certain titles (i.e. sorceress, warlock, etc.). Everyone is a witch who wishes to be labeled as such. - Resources: You might have seen online that there are certain books that get recommended for those who just want to learn about the craft. The flaw with this is that the list of books you find out are going to depend who you’re asking or where you’re reading a list from. A lot of books that are on these lists have outdated, biased or even unaccredited information that often tends to say things that do not apply to today’s world. Authors that are most recommended are Raymond Buckland, Gerald Gardner, Scott Cunningham, Doreen Valiente, Starhawk, Silver RavenWolf & Margot Adler. While these recommendations are great, as I stated previously the information may not be accurate anymore. Read the books however and see what speaks to you. Intuition is important in witchcraft. - What To Learn First: There may be some debate on what exactly to learn first and it will also depend on what you actually want to learn. From my own UPG, I read on the different types of witchcraft (i.e. energy work, kitchen witch, etc.) and realizing that you don’t have to be pagan to be a witch. However, if that’s something you’d like to do as well, learning the different types of paganism is useful (i.e. wiccan, eclectic, etc.).  It would also be helpful for you to figure out how a basic altar set up should be, what a Book of Shadows (BOS) and a Grimoire are and how to start working on your own, and if you’re delving into the paganism side of witchcraft, if you’re going to be devoting yourself to a certain deity or just call upon the Lord and Lady (again, this is NOT mandatory in witchcraft).
Daily Practice - Getting Started: Once you’ve learned a decent bit and have felt comfortable enough with the knowledge you’ve learned, you can start practicing. I want to note, that you can take however long you’d like to begin actually practicing. If that takes you a week or a year, whatever resonates with you is perfectly fine. - Setting Up Your Altar: It’s important in witchcraft that you have a certain space in order to do your workings in. Some witches are able to have their own room, others tend to place their altar on a dresser in their bedrooms. Whether you’re living alone, with a significant other or with your family, make sure it is a place that ultimately will not be disturbed. If you’re In the Broom Closet or are living with others that you do not wish to know that you’re practicing witchcraft, creating a to-go altar or digital altar would be the best route for you to take. There’s tons of information online, including my own Tumblr, that has altar inspiration. But if you don’t like my own tastes, feel free to do some digging. Most examples are available on this site! - Setting Up Daily Practice: After setting up your altar, it would be ideal for you to begin to set up a practice. What things make you feel more connected with yourself, the universe, deities, etc.? Some examples of doing this are: yoga, gratitude journal, BOS recording, etc. If there’s something you do in the morning, such as exercise, you can even make that witchy. Just about any activity can be spruced up with a bit of witchcraft, go ahead and find out what works best for you. Once you’ve established this routine, STICK TO IT. Make it become second nature to you.
Groups, Covens & Groves! Oh My! - Decide: This is something that is dependent on your own personal comfort. Do you want to continue working alone or do you want to work with others? You can start to work with others right away or even after several years of solitary work. You will eventually come upon varying opinions on the matter, but remember, do what feels best for you. My best friend worked solitary for several years before finding a coven whereas I was searching for one right away, it happens either way. - Finding Others or Groups: If you decide that you’d like to find others or even a group that practices witchcraft, there are a few ways to go about this. There are websites dedicated to finding groups, such as Witchvox and PaganSpace depending upon what needs you have. Other websites will also lead you to these people and groups, such as Facebook or MeetUp. If you know what your practice is, try typing in those keywords. If nothing comes up, type in more generic terms such as ‘‘energy work, healing, pagan, witch, reiki” or similar terms. Keep in mind, this is also dependent upon where you live. If you’re living in the US, the coasts are going to have a better time finding groups and people versus those in the bible belt. Be patient though, the universe provides when asked. There also are organizations that have groups fall under their jurisdiction, such as Ár nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship (ADF). If you join these organizations, you should be able to find a group in your area in most cases. - Joining a Group: So you found a group and they seem to be the group for you. Talk to the Priest/Priestess/Member of the group and see if they’re accepting new members and how to join if so. This is going to vary depending upon the group, but make sure to take their instructions with care. If you start the joining process but then decide to opt out, then you have the right to do so. Keep an open line of communication regardless if there are any issues or not, just as a point of respect. Every groups joining process is going to be different, so do not expect the same process each time. - Warning Signs: Unfortunately, there are some people and groups who cross the line of boundaries that should never be crossed. Do not do anything you’re uncomfortable doing! As I already stated, even if you’re in the process of joining, you have the right to back out! Do not let someone force you into having intercourse, sharing bodily fluids, forcing you naked if you don’t wish to be, eating anything raw or alive or something you’re allergic to, taking any recreational drugs, cutting yourself or just plain out doing things that are against your personal moral code. Though I personally have not seen any of these things happen, they can occur. If at any point you’re uncomfortable, tell them. If they’re decent human beings, they won’t make you do it. However, if they are telling you ‘‘this is the only way’‘ and you still don’t want to do it, DON’T. Run far away from this group and avoid them.
Tips - Be Patient: Finding your perfect practice and a great coven might take some. You’re not going to be this all powerful being within a day or even a few years, just keep doing your practice and living your truth. - You Don’t Need To Know Everything: Someone told me this and I didn’t listen, now I completely understand what they meant. There’s many different aspects of witchcraft and when you’re first starting out, you’re going to want to know all of it. You don’t need to. Focus on 1-3 different areas that interest you. If it’s not as cool as you think it is, move on to something else. - Labels Aren’t Necessary: Just like in school, labels aren’t needed. If you choose to study a certain element and don’t call yourself that type of witch, then don’t. Also, if someone else tries to label your craft, don’t let them. Your craft is just exactly that, yours. - Remember Personal Boundaries: When meeting others, it might be exciting to dig deep into this person’s history with the craft and get all the info from them you could ever want, but just like making friends in school, it will take some time for another witch to open up to you (unless you find that rare witch that will divulge all their secrets). Don’t hound them every time you see them; get to know them. Meeting other witches and groups is a lot like making friends in school. Give them some space, don’t stalk them and hound them and you should be just fine! - Get Creative & Crafty: Witchcraft is what you make of it. Make it uniquely yours.

Dream Message Spell
A while ago, I saw a spell similar to this somewhere on the internet and I could never find it again, but I still remembered it, thankfully. So I thought I’d post it! I’ve used this so many times and it’s been successful 100% of the time.
This spell is to answer questions you have inside of a dream.
Tumblr media
SUPPLIES:
A blue or black pen
A small piece of paper
STEPS
I. First, write down a question you have on the piece of paper. It can be about anything.
II. Fold the piece of paper and hold it in your hand. You can whisper to yourself out loud or say in your head:
“Oh as I travel into the astral I wish to know [question]. This is my will, so mote it be.”
III. From here, all you have to do is put the piece of paper under your pillow and go right to sleep. You’ll dream of the answer that night!
I hope this was helpful, if anyone has any feedback to give or needs any help with interpreting the dreams they get, feel free to send me an ask!

How To Send Dreams 💤
This post explains how to send a dream to another person. I’ve done this before many times and it’s always worked for me. I’m not here to boss anyone around, but it’s best to get permission to do it first. If not, that’s on you.
Tumblr media
Read this post I made about energy work. (x) You’re going to want a little experience with energy work if you want to do this, otherwise it won’t work.
Print out a picture or pull up a picture on your phone of the person you wish to send the dream to.
Create a ball of energy in your hand. Infuse the ball of energy with images or words by thinking it, then imagining the thought or word going down your arm from your head, into the ball of energy.
Slowly push the ball of energy into the picture while imagining that you are in front of that person and physically putting it into their head. Do your best to feel yourself doing it.
Feel free to send me an ask on how it works for you or if you have any questions! :)

SPELL:  Remembering & Recalling Dreams
Tumblr media
During the Basic Spellwriting class that Salt hosted tonight on the server, the WAMILY members gathered and constructed a spell together.  This was an amazing team effort and the collaboration produced a simple, yet effective spell.  This is what they came up with!
PURPOSE OF THE SPELL:
To dream deeply and vividly, and to recall it when you wake.
SPECIAL TIMING:
During the New Moon; and/or on a Saturday (a day of relaxation.)  Bonus points if you can score a New Moon on a Saturday!
Each New Moon is a brand new beginning.  It offers the opportunity to make a change, to re-orient yourself, or to conjure a new aspect of yourself and your life into being.  The energy of the new moon is great for initiating a new project or the start of an adventure.  And with it being hidden in darkness, there are parallels drawn between the darker sides of the moon as well as our minds.
ITEMS NEEDED:
Soft Pajamas: for comfort.
Fluffy Pillow: to rest our head, where dreams happen.
Cup of tea: to warm and relax our bodies.
Amethyst: to remove stress, to boost intelligence and promote personality growth, to protect from harmful outside influences, to strengthen memory.
SPELLWORK:
1.  On the night of a New Moon (or a Saturday, or both), climb into bed wearing soft pajamas and tea in hand.  Sip your tea and focus your energy on a night of restful sleep.  Think back on the past vivid dreams you have had and the details of them.  You can also set an amethyst by your bedside, under a pillow, or near a window.
2.  When your tea is finished and you are sleepy, read the following incantation, focusing on the mysterious, majestic power of the New Moon.  Visualize its shadows as a cloak that will conceal you.  The New Moon will inspire the start of your adventure in the dreamscape.
3.  Recite the following spell:
I ask the New Moon to allow peaceful and calm rest.  To the depths of my subconscious, give me access.  Let the absence of the Moon be my shield and guide,  and when I wake, let the dreams ever-flow to my mind.
4.  Turn off the lights, rest your head on your pillow, and allow for your dreams to blossom!  In the morning, you should wake and be able to recall the details of the dream.  (We suggest writing them down!)
Thanks to everyone who participated in creating this spell!  You all are amazing and we cannot wait to see what else our WAMILY creates together!
