Field of Bones by J.A. Jance. Newly reelected sheriff on maternity leave helps her people solve a case involving missing girls and bones found in the desert. Thought it was a great story. May try to read other books by this author. SK

Sooo..being a teenager sucks. Living in a small town while being a teenager sucks even more because the people who live there…well they can make life far more difficult than necessary. I liked the book although some parts annoyed me. Small town murder. Outcast kid gets blamed because people are assholes. Most of what happened could have been avoided if the kid could have found a way to just be truthful. But what really bothered me was the adults. One a corrupt cop with an ax to grind for no apparent reason, another adult to caught up in herself to just be honest about what she knows. There is also the fact that people seem to think that boys don’t need care and understand from their mothers. If you want to make them independent by pushing them away, then don’t be surprised when talking to you is the last thing they want.

Opening Day is an excellent sports memoir. I learned so much about how the world worked when Jackie Robinson integrated baseball. History is always more fascinating when told from personal aspects. 4⭐  -xo SD

Ever want to know what the mind of a teenage boy is like? This book is for you! It was funny and interesting. The kid definitely needs to learn how things work and it’s a little cringey to watch at times. 3⭐ -xo SD

March was a very busy month at work so not much reading was accomplished. What I did read was pretty good.
Dear Fahrenheit 451 was so good. I listened to it on audio and couldn’t put it down. So funny and relatable. 5⭐
We were Eight Years in Power was pretty powerful. It greatly increased my non-fiction TBR. It was a long but well worth it read. 4⭐
The Wendy Project was gorgeous. It was a beautiful way to handle the topic. 3⭐

Reading Animal Farm as a 12 year old and then again as 36 year old is worlds apart in perception. To a kid Animal Farm is just that, a farm with animals that decide to overthrow the farmer and start a new society in which they are all clearly miserable. As an adult who pays passing attention to politics, votes, and is living through the current farce of government, Animal Farm struck a chord. Even though Orwell wrote this in his response and criticism of the Soviet Union we can see much of what occurred disturbingly in America’s current and historical political parties. You can see everyday the Squealers standing at the press podium trying to tell everyone all is okay, nothing to see here, the government knows what is best. And of course are the Snowballs, members of the GOP trying to  speak out against the majority of their party only to be ostracized. This is not a book for middle schoolers to read as much will be lost on them. For educational purposes I highly recommend this to be assigned to high school students in a combination of their government and English courses.

I read Speak the novel last year and it was incredible book. Given the topic of the book, I was a little nervous going into the graphic novel. It was handled amazingly well. I think the artist (Emily Carroll) did such a great job conveying the strong emotions in this story. 4 ⭐  - xo SD

I finished this book on Valentine's Day appropriately enough. It was cute and I was able to read so many stories that I didn't want to end. I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. I made notes as I read each one so I know which authors that I want to check out next. 4 stars -xo SD

This is one of the most important books I’ve ever read. It taught me so many things I didnt even know were happening. It will make you angry, incredulous, sad, intrigued and hopeful all at the same time. This book is an excellent tool to get some change going in this troubling era we’re living in. 4⭐ -xo SD

I was aware of the internet harassment but didn't really know what was going on. This is part memoir and part how-to manual when it comes to protecting yourself on the internet. She is really great about letting other voices shine. I recommend this book because it has some great advice. 3⭐ -xo SD

The final book I read in January was arguably the best one. 5 ⭐ I listened to Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk on audio and it was amazing. It is such an interesting and entertaining look at the span of a woman's life over a 60 year time period. I want Lillian to be my friend. -xo SD

I tend to read the last few pages of a book to see if I want to invest time in the entire story and I’m glad I decided to continue reading this book. The first paragraph caught my attention just like the final 2 pages. We have a guy trying to redeem himself in the eyes of his daughter and wife only to be dragged back into the world he left a year before, but it wasn’t your typical disgraced yada yada trying to clear his name because he was framed for something he didn’t do. This guy actually was a jerk, admitted he was a jerk but was trying to become a better person.
I  really like the flow of the story, but there were some parts I found quite annoying due to the behavior of the characters. There wasn’t a happily ever after ending, but an ending that I felt was suitable for the story.
The biggest thing I took away from this book was that your past can really come back to bite you in the ass in unexpected ways, but sometime your friends can cause you more harm than any misdeed.
