Okami AU: YR - About Isamu

Because I love Okami and feel like writing something for the game, here's an idea I had for an alternate universe, following a few years after Okami's story is complete. This has spoilers; even though the game is pretty old, I'd rather not spoil it for those who haven't played.

The Au's full name is Yokai Rebirth, and it has some interesting, less grounded mythology ideas planned for it. Below is the main character, Isamu's information. As well as what I have planned in his background for right now and the au's story.

Species: Yokai (Unknown, one of a kind.)

Home Location: Kamiki Village

Background and AU Story:

Imagine the regular events of the world until a few years after Okami. During these few years, something has been forming, waiting for its chance to appear before the world again. This being is Yami, or at least it was; now his name is Isamu, a mystical fish yokai who is one of a kind. His name means brave, as his appearance and attempts to remain were brave. The hamlet came to respect this mystical fish yokai, as he seemed happy to stay in his waters; in exchange for food.

However, due to the blood spilled during the fight with Yami, something else was born, Akuro, the negativity of Yami. Isamu was the rest of Yami, purified in the conflict and sent down to the waters of Nippon to show how change could happen. Isamu's appearance changed from Yami's original appearance of a small dark grey fish in a ball of water with blue markings to a larger light grey fish with dark blue markings, long fins, and a beautiful fan-like tail. During one festival, Isamu felt a disturbance and came out of the water, swimming through the air. Heading out of the village and towards a place that Susano followed him to, the Moon Cave, somewhere he dreaded seeing again.

This place was host to Orochi in the past, a vicious eight-headed being that ate maidens, almost eating his dear Kushi. He followed Isamu to the top of the temple, watching the fish yokai; as the being searched the area where Orochi had been slain. The blood from the battle had dried long ago, it was a few long years, and the warrior was surprised when a snake-like being approached from under a piece of rubble. This snake seemed to have a lot of elemental control, though it bared no ill will towards them; in fact, it looked impressed by Isamu in front of it. The fish decided to take the snake in; there was an island in the water nearby to Kamiki; it would work as a home for them both, and the snake was named, Tsukito.

Tsukito's name means 'moon person' or 'moon child;' to match where the two found him, and he was honored to take the name. They returned to the village, and with help, they built a home on the large island they began to inhabit, but Isamu desired to explore even further beyond the Moon Cave and the rolling hills of Kamiki... And to take Tsukito with him, something was calling him, and he wouldn't wait much longer.
