Benefits of Medical Massage
A massage is a wonderful way to relax, unwind and soothe tired muscles. However, new research shows that massage is not just for relaxation and pampering. Researchers have proven that massage offers tangible medical benefits. Read more about benefits of medical massage.
Massage benefits are impressive and varied. Massage therapy can also help patients who suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome by increasing the strength of their grip. Researchers also studied the effects of massage on female breast cancer patients. They found that massage increased the effectiveness of the immune system in these patients.
Massage benefits have even been proven in some of our youngest citizens. Current research shows that massage helps premature babies gain weight more quickly. Since weight gain is one of the biggest challenges that preemies face, this is great news for parents who give birth to pre-term infants. Massage also benefits young asthma patients by reducing the severity of their symptoms.
Advanced technology has allowed researchers to better understand how massage actually affects the human body. Massage has been proven to effectively lower the level of the stress hormone cortisol. It also increases white blood cells and reduces cytokine proteins. These proteins are related to allergic reactions and inflammation.
Whether consumers desire relaxation or medical benefits, massage is increasing in popularity. The American Massage Therapy Association estimates that massage therapy is currently over a $10 billion industry. The number of Americans using massage is also increasing. Over eight percent of Americans have utilized some form of massage therapy in the past year.
Massage therapy has also grown in popularity among the medical community. Funding for scientific studies regarding massage therapy has increased, and this includes over $2.7 million funding from the National Institutes of Health.
If you are interested in helping others through the healing power of massage, you should consider a career as a professional massage therapist. Since the massage industry is growing, there are many opportunities for a successful massage career. You will need quality training before becoming a licensed therapist, so research massage therapy schools in your area. There are many massage therapy schools available, so choose one that has a reputation for quality and plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning.

Back Massage While Pregnant
As the name signifies, a pregnancy massage is meant for women who are on their way to becoming a mother. A back massage while pregnant requires high expertise as pressing a wrong nerve ending might lead to serious implications involving the mother and the unborn baby. When pregnant women get a pregnancy massage done, they are made to lie down in a very comfortable position as a wrong movement might pain them a lot. A pregnancy massage is carried out by the therapist with extremely gentle hands and the movements are equally delicate. This is done as there are a lot of physiological changes that take place in the circulatory system of a woman. These changes promote avoidance of deep massage movements as the labor might get hemorrhaged. Changes in the system also include an increase in coagulation. So to make sure there no complications develop, the massage strokes are kept highly delicate in a pregnancy massage.
There are a lot of things that need to be taken care of while giving a pregnancy massage. The therapist is usually aware that while a woman is pregnant, the chances of her developing a blood clot are very high, perhaps 6 times higher than she being not pregnant. Muscle spasms can also occur if the pregnancy massage is not kept gentle. During the pregnancy massage, the therapist will make sure that the legs of the lady are handled with care, especially veins such as the femoral, the saphenous and the iliac. The therapist will deliberately avoid deep massage rubs as well as profound vibration and friction as all of these could result in coronaries and strokes.
Massaging the back and the legs of a pregnant woman during a pregnancy massage are two big concerns. The back gets handled with an extremely soft fist and the knuckles of the therapist will run down the back starting from the spine and to the hips. Then the movement will be done in the reverse direction. The legs can be positioned in a side position and then need to be gently rubbed. Only the outer part has to be targeted with the strokes being gentle and the movement being circular. The bottom of the foot again needs to be handled with extra care.
The reason behind a pregnant woman getting a pregnancy massage is mostly because of the sore legs that she develops. The logic behind this is the increase of fluid inside her tissues which almost goes up by 40 per cent. Lymphatic drainage, which is a part of a pregnancy massage helps in draining that excessive fluid so that she remains in a calm state. The movement in this method starts from the knee, goes to the hip, comes back to the ankle and continues to the knee and the hip. The final touch is given to the feet. A good pregnancy massage therapist will always massage the feet even if there is no soreness as averting clots is the primary purpose. Lymph load needs to go down which will pave the way for respite and relief to come in. The motive is to make sure that the pregnancy is a healthy one.

Pet Massage: Your Pet Will Love You
Some people just love their pets and then there are some people that LOVE their pets. When I heard about a pet massage I completely laughed out loud and thought, Yeah, right. Really?” But then, as usual, I did some research and I was proven wrong. Apparently, animal massages are given often! Many horse owners provide massages for their horses to help relax muscles, increase blood circulation and reduce stress, much like us as humans benefit from massages.
As for pets, man’s best friend, it seems as though the benefits for dog massage therapy are absolutely similar to those of humans. But, how do you really know you’re helping a dog out? How do you know that giving a massage is really beneficial? Apparently, dogs give clear feedback when they are being massaged. along with regular visits to your pet’s veterinarian, massage is a proactive therapy that addresses future health issues and can also help with certain problems pets may have in the future. Some benefits of pet/pet massage therapy are:
1) Strengthening the immune system.
2) Stimulating liver and kidney functions.
3) Improves circulation.
4) Promotes deeper and easier breathing.
5) Reduces anxiety.
Now, you wonder, ” Who can give a massage to a dog?” Well, I can be sure that whoever is giving my dog a massage will have some background and experience in being a veterinarian. It is not required for a pet massage therapist to be certified in human massage therapy, but really, there are only 22 states that require and regulated licensed massage therapists. I’m sure you can imagine that massaging a cat, dog, or horse would be completely different from a human, so when picking a therapist, make sure you pick one that has interned with a Vet, or interned with another experience pet massage therapist.

How to Choose a Massage School
Depending on the types of bodywork modalities you would like to learn and whether you'd like to become certified or degreed, there is certainly a massage school that will fit your educational needs. However, it is important to note that nearly 40 states and the District of Columbia mandate licensure for the field of massage therapy; of those states, 32 require training as prescribed by the NCBTMB (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork). This article is from http://www.massagecode.com
Today, there are various natural healing careers that a quality massage school can help candidates to achieve. Some of the well-known titles you might see associated with a professional bodyworker include CMT (certified massage therapist), LMP (licensed massage practitioner), LMT (licensed massage therapist), and in the state of North Carolina, the common title is LMBT (licensed massage and bodywork therapist).
How to Choose a Massage School
The preferred massage school should meet your academic expectations, so it's important to carefully research potential somatic courses; not only for tuition cost, but also for availability of financial assistance programs, career services, and professional advancement opportunities. Other items to look for in a quality massage school are its accreditations; comprehensive training programs, and whether the school offers continuing education workshops, tutoring, and experienced instructors.
In some states, educational opportunities exist for massage school students to achieve an associate degree in the healing art. These more-advanced bodywork institutions provide hands-on training in a 750-1,000+ hour course designed for the long-term career candidate. Some of the in-depth studies entailed in a massage degree program are anatomy, massage history and philosophies, physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, business management, ethics, and higher levels of massage techniques and therapies.
If a diploma or certificate in massage therapy sounds appealing, you can choose a massage school that offers these courses as well. A matter of fact, diplomas and certificate programs in therapeutic massage are almost always readily available at any one of the estimated 1,500 educational facilities today. These specific types of academic courses generally range between 500 - 700 hours, but may be longer in some cases. Typical studies involve anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and massage history/philosophies. Additionally, students gain hands-on instruction in basic massage techniques like deep tissue, sports massage, and Swedish massage.
Eastern massage modalities like Tuina, acupressure, shiatsu, Thai massage, and other Oriental therapies are sometimes offered at an integrative massage school; but these applications are more commonly provided through an acupuncture and Oriental medicine college. If you are intrigued by other bodywork therapies like Indian head massage, craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, Trager therapy, trigger point, and neuromuscular therapy (among other techniques), an advanced massage therapy institute may extend these modalities, as well as training in aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, hot/cold stone therapy, and others.
Why massage therapy? Occupational outlook for massage therapists is very promising. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an anticipated growth of 20 percent is projected through the year 2016. Though income potential varies, experienced massage therapists can earn close to $34 hourly; and can work in an assortment of environments including day spas, wellness clinics, chiropractic offices, hospitals, at private resorts, or health retreats, among other unique work settings.
Which massage school is right for you? That depends entirely on you and your professional aspirations. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and want to join the ranks of the over 60 percent solo massage therapists, the more training you get in a variety of massage modalities, the better equipped you will be to provide a broad array of client services. Clinical training is equally important as it gives you the hands-on experience to deliver the appropriate natural healthcare treatments. In addition, communication skills are also a key element in meeting the needs of your future patients. In the right massage school, you will not only gain these essential tools, but an overall understanding to the concepts, philosophies, and practical applications that can help in healing and land you the professional success you so desire.
