HI SORRY THIS IS LATE BUT I WROTE YOU SOMETHING FOR THE SEKAI GIFT EXCHANGE!!

“Psst…”

A hand rubbing at her eyes, a feeling of a pillow not her own, and Saki whispering in her ear is what Ichika was woken up to at Saki's monthly sleepovers.

“Psst! Ichika!”

She sits up and stretches her arms, feeling the blanket she was wrapped in fall to her lap, before looking to where Saki was pointing with one hand and stifling giggles with the other.

Despite the darkness of the room being cut through by dull morning light, Ichika still had to squint to see what vague shape was being pointed at, but after a second or two, it was all too obvious.

Shiho was clinging to Honami like her life depended on it.

Ichika shot a disappointed glare towards Saki. They've been having these sleepovers for months. Every time, without fail, Shiho would stick to one of them like velcro. Velcro that you would need 2 people to pull apart.

“Oh, don't look at me like that, Ichika,” Saki pouted. “Shiho is so cute like this! I just wanna pinch her cheeks!”

In response, Ichika hit her over the head with a pillow.

“Can you two be quiet? You're going to wake Shiho.” Honami directed a stern expression towards the duo, before being promptly quieted with a pillow to the face.

Giggles and shouts began to invade every corner of the room as Honami tried to stand up, held down by Shiho's heavily sleeping frame, to chase Saki for the pillow attack.

Ichika began to laugh at how ridiculous Honami looked, hobbling along with Shiho clinging on and being dragged along the floor, but was hit with the stomach by Honami's pillow.

After minutes of pillow fighting, Shiho had finally woken up and proceeded to scold the three for creating such a ruckus. And yet, despite being told off, Ichika couldn't help but smile.

Just a year ago, she didn't think this would even be possible. Shiho and Honami refused to talk to her, Saki was in the hospital and too far to visit frequently, and yet, here they all were. Goofing off and being reprimanded. Soon, they'd make pancakes and Saki would beg to use chocolate chips. Then, they'd start a movie marathon where Saki and Honami would cry at all the sad scenes and Shiho would get scared at the parts that weren't even scary.

“...and what if you had woken up Tsukasa? He's going to try to get us to make arts and crafts like we're five again, and- Ichika? Why are you smiling? Have you even been listening to me?”

“Why don't we go make pancakes?”

She laughs.

Ichika smiled, for the snow started to fall down on city streets.

It was a beautiful day for a stroll. Well, Ichika would have to properly define what is considered “beautiful”.

It was a busy afternoon, and markets began to close at the sight of snow. People rushed to confide in the warmth of their fireplaces, and children huddled with their parents from the gusts of winds. A thin blanket of snow began to cover the roofs of houses, and gusts of winds were the only attacks to worry about.

Saki, protected under the endless amounts of layers, rested her head on Honami’s shoulder.

“Honaaaa, my love! I’m so cold, won’t you protect me from the merciless, ever-bitter winter?”

Honami smiled at Saki’s antics and enveloped Saki in her arms. “Always, Saki.”

“See, Shiho, this is what you do when I want a hug!”

Shiho let out an exasperated sigh and removed her hat, before placing it on Saki’s head and patting it down.

“Saki. You can’t just rely on us whenever you want warmth. You have to wear more layers.”

“Shiho, I am wearing layers! Are you saying you would refuse to lend me your warmth whenever your poor lover is freezing to death-“

Saki paused when she felt lips touch her forehead, before smiling and leaning into Shiho’s touch. Shiho leaned her head onto Honami’s other shoulder and looked back into Saki’s vibrant eyes.

“Never. I would never, Saki.”

Ichika looked back at the serene scene of her lovers and almost forgot about how sore her smile was starting to become.

This. This is what Ichika would call beautiful.

Honami’s eyes widened at the sight in front of her and loosened her arms around Saki.

“Look, they have a sale going on over there. Should we go and check?”

Saki nodded, before taking Ichika’s hand and dragging the group forward. “Hehe, let’s go! I bet they might have apple pie we can eat at home.”

Upon nearing the shop, the seller brightened at the group.

“Welcome! There is a sale for some of these pastries and foods. Please, let me know if anything comes up or you would like to buy anything,” before he returned to his task beforehand.

Honami leaned forward and scrunched her eyebrows. “What to pick….what to pick…. There’s so many good options we could choose. There is a classic apple pie, but the one with nuts inside adds for a crunchier bite…ooh! There’s also that one there too, for a different taste. Hmmm, what to choose…”

Ichika raised her hand to laugh behind her hand. “Hona, we can choose whatever you would like.”

“I know, but I would rather get something all of us can enjoy without any issues.”

Ichika’s hand took Honami’s covered ones and raised it to her lips, before placing their intertwined hands near her heart. Honami felt a warmth rush her cheeks, and her face countered the bitter cold of the winter they were in.

“Hona, you don’t need to worry so much. Do you want me to choose something?

Honami smiled and nodded.

“Thank you Ichi.”

Ichika looked around the shop, scanning every single item she was free to choose. But, one of them spoke out to her.

“Let’s get this one, hm?”

Honami peered over Ichika’s shoulder and smiled.

“Let’s get this one.”

Ichika dropped the money onto the counter and the seller smiled, pulling out the fresh, warm, caramel apple pie.

“Enjoy, and stay warm!”

Ichika responded in kind and took the apple pie. When Honami and Ichika reunited with the group, Saki’s eyes sparkled in excitement.

“It looks so good…”

If Saki’s eyes sparkled at that moment, Honami’s eyes became the equivalent of stars.

Shiho looked up at Honami and sent a knowing look to Ichika.

“Let’s go, we can warm this up at our place.”

Ichika looked back at Shiho and shared the same look back.

“Yeah, let’s go.”

The sun had begun to set, and the skies had begun to consist of a dark blue. Lanterns glowed throughout the city streets, and the pure snow sparkled underneath. And yet, the serenity of the view had not captured Ichika’s eye. For when she looked back at Shiho and smiled, and saw Saki’s and Honami’s excitement for returning to their home, Ichika was enamored with what was in front of her. No amount of city views or apple pie could have Ichika so in love, than the three people in front of her she got to call hers. She would forever be enraptured in their heart, their warmth.

Their warmth would forever stay with each other, no matter the bitter cold winds of winter.

hello!! i had the pleasure of writing a fic for @hammerbonk for the @winter-sekai-gift-exchange !!

she requested AnHane and something from her unit shuffle AU (which is incredible, go check it out!) , so i hope i did both of these things justice! :D

"I can't believe we're actually doing this," An sighs. She still doesn't believe this is happening. Even after a 45 minute train ride and a short walk to the convention center, she stands in a queue for a concert. An idol concert, nonetheless.

"Oh, lighten up Shiraishi! Keep your mind open to new experiences! I imagine this will be fun!" Rui smiles almost devilishly down at her. She grimaces back.

An is trying to keep an open mind, she swears. It's just hard since she hasn't been to an event this scale since renouncing street music.

"Ah, it's our turn!" Hinomori is smiling. Even Asahina looks less depressed than normal. Maybe this will be a good thing.

An was wrong. Oh god, she was so, so wrong. This is awful. The entire space is decked out in pink, sugary decor. The lights are blazing and the air is ridiculously humid. And all the people. There were so many people, more than An had ever seen in her life. Of course these girls that gave Asahina the tickets had to be famous.

Speaking of Asahina, she looked to be doing just as well as An was feeling. Her normally blank-staring face was twisted into an expression of anxiety and disgust. The things she must endure for her kouhai, An mused, must be pretty tame compared to this. Rui and Hinomori, on the other hand, seemed to be having the time of their lives. An had always known the two of them to be familiar with the idol industry, as Hinomori used to be a victim of it, and Rui had been hyperfixated on it for quite some time.

However, none of the others' opinions had any bearing on An herself. She decided to check the time. A quick glance at her phone told her it was 3:15, and the show started at 4:00. There was still a good 45 minutes before the show started. Maybe she should learn a little bit about this idol group. Just so she could put names to faces, or... something like that.

Instagram was as good of a place to start as she could think of. Opening the search bar, she grabbed the ticket back out of her pocket to check the name of the group. 'SUGARSMILE'.. Probably another one of those factory-made pink girl groups, An guessed.

As usual, she was right. Pastels and fairy decor covered the posts on the page. However, the pinned post's first slide was labeled group introduction. This should have some more general info about the group, right?

After clicking on it, the post opened to a group picture of what An assumed to be the group's members. Two girls with pink hair, two girls with blonde hair, and blinding smiles on all four. They were very pretty, as expected of girls in the idol industry.

The next slide was a little bio about one of the pink haired girls. Her name was Emu, and she was regarded as the leader of the group. The pictures of her on the slide depicted her as being incredibly energetic and fun-loving. This was most likely the girl who gave Asahina the tickets, as she regularly described the kouhai as a 'little whirlwind.'

On the next slide was, frankly, one of the prettiest girls An had seen in a long time. Her name was Kohane. Her blonde hair and shy smile had An wrapped around her finger almost immediately.

How could a girl be this cute, An wondered. Before long, she was looking to see if this girl had her own account, separate from the group one. She did. An spent the next few minutes looking through it, suddenly way more excited to see the show.

Kohane was nervous, to say the least. It wasn't like anxiety was an abnormal thing for her, but today it seemed much worse. It was their first solo show, and to top it off, Emu had invited Asahina-senpai. If she hadn't already been nervous, this knowledge would have set her off even more.

Speaking of Emu, she was bouncing off the walls, as normal. The other members of their group, Airi and Saki, were stretching in the middle of the green room. Airi was directing Saki, making sure she was properly stretched out to avoid injury. All four of them had warmed up together earlier, but with Saki's history of injury and hospitalization, it never hurt to be careful. Kohane had been invited to join in, but when Airi noticed her anxious state, she was advised to simply take it easy until showtime.

This was not Airi's first rodeo, and it definitely showed. Kohane knew her senpai had been in the idol industry before joining SUGARSMILE, but hadn't realized how much experience she had. It was comforting to know they had someone who knew what they were doing to help them along.

Before long, Kohane had calmed down a bit. Sure, she was still nervous, but it was a good kind of nervous. The kind that makes you excited to do your best. It was showtime soon, and she finally felt ready.

At last, it was showtime. Their set was a simple six songs, one picked by each of the girls and their two group debut songs. Opening with Newly Edgy Idols, then From Tokyo, Parasol Cider, Flyer, The Theme of the Niccori Survey Team, and ending with The World Hasn't Even Started Yet. Kohane was confident in her vocals and dancing, so it was up to her to add some audience interactions and flair.

Entering the stage was an experience in itself. The room was dark except for the stage lights and the glow sticks that some of the audience held. As soon as Airi and Emu took their first steps onto the stage, the audience erupted into cheers. She and Saki followed behind, taking their spots for the music to start.

"More, more!" Airi started the song off strong, like always.

"More, more!" Emu echoed.

"More, more!" Kohane sang.

"More, more!" Saki followed.

Their dance moves were in sync as the song continued, Kohane feeling more and more confident as it went. She finally felt like she could do this! She turned her gaze out to the audience, scanning the crowd. The song ended and she struck her final pose, giving the audience a wink.

She caught the eye of someone in the audience. A girl with blue hair and amber eyes, standing next to.. was that Asahina-senpai? Ah, whatever, that wasn't important. This girl was so beautiful, and she was looking at Kohane like she had hung the stars and moon in the sky.

Kohane was in love at first sight.
