Buffy and Drusilla: Angel created Drusilla as a living-dead reminder of the corruption he’s capable of. A trophy, for the great accomplishment of twisting such a good soul into the dark creature she became.  And he wanted to do the same with Buffy.

Buffy and Drusilla were so much alike at different points in time. Both of them forced to live with the burden of supernatural powers. Both of them young, emotional, and full of love. So similar, in so many ways. And I believe Angel was drawn to them for these exact same reasons. With his intentions starting out differently with Buffy due to his soul.

But once soulless, the intentions were the same. He wanted to kill her loved ones, torture her, slowly turn her insane, then keep her as his second great victory of corruption. And I believe that if things were to play out just slightly differently, Angel would have broken Buffy just like he’d broken Dru.

Imagine Angelus being around in season 5-6 instead, when Buffy’s death-wish was in full bloom. Or imagine Buffy without the physical strength benefit that Dru didn’t have in order to protect her loved ones. Imagine the slight change in events that would have left Dru alive and well. Possibly as simple as never coming across Angelus that one day in church.

I am sure Dru could have been a very useful seer and possible witch in the fight against evil. A force to be reckoned with, just like Buffy. And that’s why I see them as each others mirror.

Just like Drusilla is an absolutely terrifying worst-case scenario for Buffy, Buffy is a heartbreaking reminder that Drusilla could have been a great asset for the forces of good.

Thank you drusillathekiller​ for making me think more about Drusilla. You’re such a treasure to the Buffy community!

Okay, so what happened to Anya after Xander left her at the altar? Sure, she was heartbroken. The man she loved didn't want to be with her forever/wasn't sure about their relationship. That's not important here. What is important, is that Anya essentially lost her entire identity... again. First she lost it when she became a human, having to adjust to no longer being a powerful vengeance demon. Then, she built a new human identity that pretty much revolved around Xander like he was the sun. Even her relationships to the other Scoobies were all by proxy through Xander, they were all "xanders friends" who would implicitly always be on "xanders side". Who the hell was she if she wasn't dating Xander? She had no one. So she became a vengeance demon again... and she still didn't regain her identity. Because she didn't know who she was but she knew she wasn't this, not anymore. So she can't be demon, but had no purpose as a human. Even among her kind of friends of the Scoobies more or less alienated her, she never really fit in (and that really had rather little to do with the ex-demon thing and more to do with Anya just being herself). That's what always gets me about Selfless. "What if I'm really nobody?" She hadn't had to be a person for so long, she had just forgotten how
