Advice for a new writer that wants to start putting my fic online?

sure! i can think of a couple tips off the top of my head

when describing a scene, try to account not just for the visuals but also the smells and sounds as well! it can really make a difference in the atmosphere

in a longer form story, i encourage timeskips or off-screen scenes! it's not usually feasible to write every moment of the character's lives in linear fashion. focus on the important stuff! sometimes the scenes we don't see can be just as impactful as the written ones, especially if they take place before the start. allowing the reader to explore the depth of a pre-established dynamic between characters is very fun!

^ this kind of idea ties in with another thing. sometimes less is more. if you feel that a section is starting to drag because of overabundant description, consider which parts of it might be worth cutting.

have fun with scene changes! don't be afraid to cut right out of/into the middle of a conversation or action moment. i think it can really enhance the feeling of shock, excitement, suspense, etc.

speaking as a perfectionist, sometimes over-editing can stagger the flow of a story, so be careful with that! "There are fine things, old boy, which are more brilliant when unfinished, than when finished too much."

most importantly: write for yourself. (unless it's a gift!) i believe writing only for the approval of others is a recipe for demotivation in the long run. post work that you really care about and had fun writing, and eventually other people will find it that will care about it too =)

cannot recommend more putting secrets and hints in your creative work that you dont expect anyone to figure out

in the meantime, if you need something to read, try Wed for the Crown (as always, please read the tags carefully!) this work was written for me during the original works exchange, and it's very much in the same vein as my own stories! the author did such a fantastic job, so please leave some love in the comments if you decide to check it out

small update: unfortunately, as the nature of life is unpredictable, i haven't had much time to write in the last few weeks... that being said, things have started to ease up and so i expect i'll be able to get some work posted soon i'm prioritizing finishing my WIPs that are nearly done (dreadspider and various oneshots) but i promise i'll try not to make you all wait too long for the next chapter of art of coercion <3 i hope you're taking care, wherever you are

i'd definitely like to have another art of coercion chapter in the next few weeks as well, but since we're nearing the end of an important arc i want to make sure i take the time to put things together properly :)
