James furrowed his brow, "I don't know if it's tracking that I noticed you on some gym equipment was planning to use but whatever," he replied, shrugging and handing it over. He smiled, "I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone say they'd hate to lose a water bottle before. You're welcome though."

"Good to know I'm being tracked?" He mused, not that he truly meant it of course. His eyes trailed down to the bottle the man was holding, recalling his sister scrawling his initials on it when she was younger. Something she'd given him as a gift when he'd first started out in Quidditch. It was a little battered with age but he'd never stopped carrying it around with him. "Yeah that's mine. I'd actually hate to lose it so thanks for that."

"January is a weird month," James agreed, "It is strange that it is that way and I can't explain it. It's not like the routine goes completely out the window. Well, maybe it does for some."

"Happy New Year, mate," he grinned back at the other. "Did you have a good time celebrating? I still don't fully feel like it's a whole new year to be so honest with you. Everything always feels like a weird limbo in January."

"You are? Erin that's great!" James exclaimed, grinning brightly, "Who is it? How long has it been going on?" he asked, trying not to bombard her with questions but wanted to know about his friend's new relationship, "Well when you make it through, then you'll know you're really making it through your recovery. Parties can be hard but if you can get through them without being tempted, you're on the right track."

"Is there?" Erin asked, surprised that James had managed to pick that something had changed. "I suppose I have started maybe, kind of seeing someone. That could be it." She gave a coy shrug. "Aw, that's sweet. I have a historically bad track record on New Years Eve, or so I've been told, but hey! That just means I need to make new memories, to outweigh all the bad ones, right?"

James raised an eyebrow, "What? Like you did last time?" he asked sarcastically, referring to the match where the Magpies pulled ahead at the last minute after a fairly long and even match.

“We both know I’ll win though,” Kenzie teased back to his retort. “Oh, I would call that some quiet chaos.”

"Your company is enough," James said, smiling at his cousin. He felt like he hadn't seen her in a while, not one-on-one. The Christmas season was surrounded by family but it was hectic so it was nice to have this time with her, "That's not a terrible idea. I'm sure there are fireworks going on everywhere."

"Let me know if there's anything I can do for you," she spoke softly in reply. "Yeah, he's off talking to some friends. We were talking about going out to the fireworks but we might just see if we can watch them from home if it's really so crowded out tonight."

James laughed, "Yeah, my own personal Cinderella," he joked, keeping her close, "It was also the night I realised I had romantic feelings for you and if I hadn't realised that, we wouldn't be married with a wonderful family. At least not on the same timeline."

"A few hitches? You mean me literally running halfway through the castle in a ball gown like I'm trying to make my midnight carriage? Those hitches?" she said with a laugh.

"What can I say? If I wasn't adopted, I'd say quidditch was in my blood," James replied with a smirk, "If I'm going to be a know-it-all about anything, it's quidditch," he continued, shrugging, "Whatever you say, Seeker. We'll see how it goes when we're playing opposite each other this season," he challenged with amusement clear in his tone.

There was a moment where Lulu's eyebrows rose and she looked at the man for a moment. "Careful there, you're sounding like a know it all. I can't say that's ever been attractive and pride does come before a fall." Lulu reminded the man. "So whilst I agree that the skills can be used across the board, I can guarantee that doesn't make you better than a Seeker so stay in your lane, Chaser." She warned him playfully because she was more than aware that they all had their own drills to run outside of the team ones.

"It's good to see you too, Erin. You look good, there's something a little... lighter about you. I take it things are going okay?" James asked, raising an eyebrow with a smile, "No way, I'm not going to miss this. It's Mackenzie and I's anniversary of starting our relationship. We're celebrating while we have a sitter," he explained, laughing.

“It’s good to see you, I’m glad you and Mackenzie could find someone to look after the kids.” Erin said with a smile. “Don’t worry though, if you’re super tired and end up leaving before midnight, I won’t tell anyone.”

"You know, I love the fact that we're married but I prefer celebrating this anniversary," James admitted, "I know our first midnight kiss had a few hitches but without it, we wouldn't be where we are today," he explained, wrapping an arm around her shoulder and pulling her close to plant a kiss on her temple.

"Hey," James said to the other with a small smile, "I didn't get a lot of details obviously but dad mentioned Alice was having a hard time. Are you okay?" he asked, "I assumed it might have something to do with your grandmother so I wanted to check in. I should have done it sooner honestly."

James finished pouring himself a glass of the free water at the end of the bar, taking full advantage of the non-alcoholic option. When he turned, her spotted a familiar face, "Hey, mate. Good to see you," he said with a grin, tapping the man's bicep in a friendly greeting, "Happy New Year!"

"Oh no, I agree," James agreed, "But I eat, sleep, and breathe Quidditch. I'm a chaser because that's what I chose at school and because I'm quick and have good hand-eye coordination. Those skills are easily applied to seeker, too. I can do all the others as well."

"Oh don't even try James, you are not almighty. You can be taken down. You have your area of expertise and I have mine. I am sure your partner would agree with me there that they are two completely different roles." Lulu spoke with a snort of amusement. "I'm still considering what I want to call you after all this."
