The laptop my family uses is old and kinda clunky, so her fans don't do a good job at keeping her totally cooled off. To help this, we got one of those little fan stands you can plug into the laptop and sit them on top of, yeah? It worked for a good bit, before eventually stopping entirely one day for no apparent reason. We still keep her on top of the stand though, because it acts like a nice little elevated surface.

But because I used to joke that they were girlfriends, I wonder what it means to my laptop that she is constantly connected to her dead lover. That forces beyond her control keep her body neatly placed on top of hers just for convenience. If she misses the coolness she used to offer, if she misses the whir of her fans, if her usb port feels empty no longer being constantly connected to her.

Maybe she misses her lover, or maybe she's forgotten her corpse was ever separate from hers. or smth yk
