Final Project

Title: Space Ranger Galaxy
For this project, I wanted to create letters out of drawings. I went through a list of 5 letter word options and eventually landed on Space. I figured there could be many symbols that I could do for each letter. For the S, I did a rocket ship with the fire making the curve shape. For P, I did the American Flag on the moon. For A I did Saturn. For C, I did a crescent moon. And lastly for E I did an alien head. Coloring was a lot of fun because I got to use my colored pencils to shade in all of the fire colors. The first picture is the drawing that I created, and the second is the completed project.

Virtual Sketchbook 4
When Jackson Pollock first started his artistic journey, he created many paintings of every day life. Pollock took a turn in his artistic work gaining influence from other artists and seeing murals throughout New York City. He started to think outside the box and create new works of art that the world had never seen before. Using what he had learned in art school and also incorporating his new ideas, he was able to use his emotions and skills to create drip paintings. I think these drip paintings are a good way to show what was going on inside Pollock's mind. He came from a rough background, filled with alcoholism, and we can see a lot of the chaotic parts of his life reflected in his work.

My work was inspired by the cruises that l've been on with my family. We have been to many tropical islands, so I chose bright colors. But it's also chaotic because my four younger siblings are energetic and move from one thing to the next.

Virtual Sketchbook 3

The piece of artwork that I have chosen for this project is Waterfall (1970) by Yoshida Toshi. It is a woodblock print with ink and color on paper. The painting is 19 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches. The colors used in the painting are muted pastels, except for the bright blue at the very bottom. The overall shape resembles a tall, skinnier cliff with a waterfall leading all the way down to the water below. The painting isn't balanced in the sense that it looks the same if you split it in half, but I think it's a nice representation of the way nature works together to create harmony. Proportion is emphasized in this piece of artwork, as the waterfall and nature are the center of the print. The artwork makes me feel calm and peaceful. I can hear the roar of the waterfall, the breeze, and birds chirping when I look at it. I imagine myself there in the painting immersing myself in the beauty of nature. Toshi, born in Tokyo Japan, seems to have taken a lot of influence from the Shinto religion and from traditional Japanese art. The Shinto religion considers nature to be a place where Gods can dwell, so places like forests, fields, and waterfalls, are viewed as sacred. This painting is focused on the beauty and balance of nature, which corresponds with a many of the principles of Shinto beliefs. The artwork, though completed in 1970, could be associated with ukiyo-e. Ukiyo-e are colorful woodblock prints that depict scenes of everyday life in Japan. The artwork tells me that Toshi was very fond of nature and the tranquility that it brings when you fully immerse yourself in it. This message is clear. His wife was the inspiration behind the painting, and she was also an artist (bonseki). I picked this painting because I am going to be moving to Japan and I thought it would be a great way to start to immerse myself in the culture. The colors and the layout of the waterfall and the cliffs stuck out to me. It made me excited to get to see the inspiration for the nature scenes in person. I am so thankful for the beautiful world that we have been blessed with. Surrounding myself with nature brings peace and calmness to my life, and this painting perfectly executes how it makes me feel.

Virtual Sketchbook 2: Photo/Design
Interactive Design - the design of interactive products and services in which a designer's focus goes beyond the item in development to include the way users will interact with it.
Top five interactive designs according to me

My favorite out of all of the options I put is probably Rally. A good interactive design to me is when the animation is clean and eye catching. The bright colors and smooth transitions keep my attention and give the website a modern feel. The intent for Rally is to create beautifully-designed software for well known brands such as Nike, Google, and National Geographic. This site definitely fulfills its purpose and is a great example of interactive design.

Virtual Sketchbook 2: Art Project

Something that is very important to me is Florida, so I tried to recreate a sunset in the Florida Everglades. I included a sandhill crane and tried to recreate the beautiful colors across the horizon line.

Virtual Sketchbook 2: Connecting Art to Your World
Color is all around us. It adds beauty and character to the spaces around me. My favorite color is blue. One of my favorite memories was stepping off of the cruise ship in Grand Turk and seeing the crystal clear blue water. I had never seen a beach so beautiful and full of life. The brightly colored tropical fish and seashells caught my eye, and reminded me that we are so lucky to be able to live on such a beautiful planet. If I had to choose a color scheme for my life, I would probably choose yellow since that is the color most associated with happiness. I always try to choose joy no matter what my situation is, and the color yellow is usually a reflection of positivity.

Virtual Sketchbook 2: Journaling
Unity and Variety: unity is having a similar appearance and looking as one. Variety is the opposite of that, and it consists of having differences and diversity. They both complement each other. EXAMPLE

Balance: when forces who go against each other find an equal distribution. EXAMPLE

Emphasis and Subordination: emphasis is when an artist tries to draw the viewers attention to a certain area using placement, colors, etc. Subordination is when an artist uses more neutral colors to show areas that aren’t as important. EXAMPLE
Directional Forces: a path embedded in the artwork that our eyes naturally follow. EXAMPLE
Repetition and Rhythm: repetition is when a pattern repeats itself. Rhythm is when elements repeat themselves in an ordered way. EXAMPLE
Scale and Proportion: scale is comparing the sizes of two different objects. Proportion is when you compare the size of a part of a group to the whole thing. EXAMPLE

Virtual Sketchbook 1: Pt 4

This collage represents just a few of the things that I love and care for most in my life. In my daily life, I am most fascinated with the beauty in nature around me. I love to take pictures of the sunset, as you can see in the collage I have created. My other photos include me in my choir, the Taylor Swift Era’s tour, my baking skills, and one of my religions temples. These are very important to me and help me find joy throughout my day.

This piece of artwork is very important to me. These are some of the values that I strive to live by and grow towards every day. The media used to create it probably includes photoshop and procreate. The image was created using a graphic design program. This piece of artwork serves as a reminder of everything that I hope to achieve in my life. I think it is beautiful in every way. The art work is appealing to me, and the message it sends gives me positive affirmations that keep me optimistic.

Virtual Sketchbook 1: Pt 1

Shahzia Sikander 1997 Hood’s Red Rider #2. Vegetable color, dry pigment, watercolor, tea on hand-prepared Wasli paper, 10 1/8” x 7 1/8”.
Hi guys! My name is Karson White and I am training to be an opera singer and major in vocal performance. I just got accepted to transfer to BYU Idaho so I’m super excited to continue my musical journey there!
Facts about my assigned artist/artwork
Cinderella’s prince is holding her slipper at the center and the veiled heroine at the top is Red Hiding Hood reimagined.
Religion plays a significant role in much of her work. She explores how Muslim women are challenged by the western way of living.
She wears a veil in public to see how westerners are affected by the tradition.
She was born in Pakistan, and was taught the art of miniature painting in the traditional Pakistani technique.
She likes to portray female protagonists in her paintings as proactive, playful, confident, intelligent, and connected to the past in imaginative ways.
When I first looked at the piece of artwork, I noticed that there seemed like a lot going on. There seemed to be a lot of influence from Asia in her paintings with a modern twist. Now that I’ve read up on the artist and understand more of her background, I understand what she was trying to achieve in this painting. It’s a reshowing of a fairy tale everyone loves, but in a Pakistani art style with a new vision of Little Red Riding Hood being portrayed as a powerful heroine.
