This is also a hugely important change from the anime. If Satoko really wants her to stay, Rika will. Not because she can’t study, she leaves willingly here if she can’t keep up, but she doesn’t want to leave Satoshi.

It’s not about stopping Rika from going to school because Satoko doesn’t want to study, it’s about stopping her from going to school or leaving because she’ll inevitably die.
