once again thinking about the fact that harrowhark nonagesimus is a five-foot-nothing necrophiliac dweeb ass nun. she is soggy and bleeding and does not sleep enough. for most of htn she has about 3/4 of a functioning brain. she looks at everyone like she's worked out how to kill them. her entire life is consumed by an all-encompassing grief and guilt that isn't even hers. she's got a mean sense of humor and pockets full of dubiously sourced teeth. and every eligible bachelorette in the nine houses would fling themselves into the sun for her hand in marriage.

Language Barrier

My dad is listening to the Wheel of Time audiobooks.

I am reading the paperbacks.

He knows how to pronounce the names, but has no clue how to spell them. (Except Mat.)

I know how to spell the names, but butcher the pronunciation horribly. (Also except Mat.)

End result: even though I theoretically have someone with whom to discuss the series, in reality we have a major communication issue, ironically like the Wheel of Time characters themselves.

I was wrong to skip the great hunt and the eye of the world so often when rereading wot as a teen, the context of the whole series makes some of the foreshadowing and early establishment of longer plots go crazy, RJ was out here weaving his tapestry.

I really have tears in my eyes rereading how Nynaeve performs miracles so effortlessly and in such an ordinary way. She heals Logain the next morning after being drunk, singing aloud, and making Elayne laugh a lot. She can't break the block, and she can't escape (Birgitte forbids Uno from helping her), she cleans pots all the time. She just sits there with Logain, using all 5 weaves and thinking about her own issues and, from time to time, about the hole inside him and whether she can create a bridge. Suddenly, his eyes widen. She created her miracle. Not only did she heal him, but she also shielded him by herself—even though he’s nearly as strong as Rand and usually requires six Aes Sedai to be shielded. Logain locks eyes with her, his eyes shining, he smiles. I can only imagine how he must have felt.

And then I find myself crying with Siuan.
